Hi all,
I am a big Android fan. I currently have a new Note 2 that I replaced my iPhone 5 and iPad mini with (had an S3 and Tab 2 before that). I bought this in the hopes of using the "phablet" as an all-in-one device instead of having both a tablet and a phone. So far its been awesome. Here is my dilemma....
I have just become an avid e-book reader. I gave up paper books when I got the iPad mini. I am finding that the Note 2 is just a little too small to read e-books on. Plus I feel kind of stupid trying to read a book on a phone.
I went out and bought a basic kindle. A button was broken out of the box, and my house doesn't have good enough lighting to see the screen well, so I exchanged it for a kindle paperwhite. I love the paperwhite, and it is insanely easy to read on, especially at night, but I am a little miffed that I spent $120 on something that does one task only, and berates me with advertisements. For $80 more I could have a N7.
That being said, I bought an N7 when it first came out, and wasn't too impressed. The device itself is awesome, but I noticed I kept going back to my laptop to get any real work done. I only used it to check emails occasionally or watch netflix in bed. It was too small to read PDFs on for class, or do any intense internet browsing/research. Essentially it was a $200 toy, so I got rid of it. I thought it was stupid to have a smartphone, tiny tablet, and macbook air. Now I am seriously considering getting rid of the paperwhite and picking up an N7 instead.
Budget is a real issue here, as I am a student. I have read on here and other forums that people felt having a note 2 and N7 was pointless as the devices are pretty redundant, and the difference in screen size is negligible. Does anyone here have both? If so, how do you feel you use the two devices? Do you regret purchasing them together?
Also, how much bigger is the N7's actual, usable screen space? With the nav buttons at the bottom and the status bar at the top, they seem to take up a pretty big chunk of an already small tablet screen.
Mainly though, how is the N7 as an e-reader? No one can seem to agree on whether or not there is an eyestrain problem with LCDs and whether they cause insomnia when compared to e-ink, so its hard to really make that determination. Is it really worth the extra $80 to get the N7 over the kindle paperwhite, or would I be wasting money as the size is essentially the same as my note 2?
I have a Kindle Keyboard I bought in mid-2011. The main things I hated about it were A) no backlit screen making reading in the dark with a little booklight a chore, 2) inability to display photos and pics in books (some drawings display, but often too small to be useful). I did like the long battery life and the anti-glare screen, but eventually I wanted something that did more. I mostly got the N7 for books and magazine reading, but being able to play games and fly my drone with it are a major bonus. I would never waste money on a dedicated reader again. I gave the Kindle to my mom since she's easily overwhelmed by anything with multiple uses.

I agree that the kindles without a built in light are very difficult to read on. The paperwhite is an entirely different beast though. My main problem with it is that I don't want ads when I paid a $120 for a product, yet Amazon has managed to really squeeze every last little inch of the screen with ads, which is extremely frustrating. I am just hesitant to drop $80 more on a device that may not be as good for reading on, and is not that much bigger than my Note 2. Do you happen to know what the usable screen size is on the N7?
I read a lot on my seven. I like it. Easy to read on... I like it although it don't mind reading on my s3,either with the aldiko app. It's a solid device, but rasping outside or stain the Beach or whatever is easiest on the reading devices.

As far as reading goes, the usable screen of the N7 is larger than that of a page in the average paperback book. At night I like to use white text on a black screen because it is easier to read in the dark and causes less eye strain. I don't think the Kindle offers that option.

Do you think it would be redundant with a Note 2? The Kindle is technically only .5 inches bigger than the Note 2, but the square screen makes it easier to read than a 16:9 aspect ratio where you are constantly moving your eyes vertically.
Nexus 7 for sure. You have more options and more media

I don't read with the N7 horizontally, only vertically, because I wear progressive lenses and a wide screen makes me have to turn my head from side to side or my eyes will move beyond the reading portion of my glasses. The Note 2 is only 5.5", so I'm not sure why you're comparing the N7 to it. The only advantage I can see is that the Note is also a phone, but my N7 does not require a separate data plan and I can easily tether it to my S2 by turning it on as a wifi hotspot. I forgot to mention that white text on black also uses less battery on the N7.
If you're wanting something that can do more but don't wanna spend $200 for a nexus 7,get a nook color and put cm10 on it. My wife asked for a simple ereader for christmas and I instead got her a nc and put cm on it and she loves it. Granted it won't give you the same level of performance the n7 will, but it is a great ereader and has a screen designed to reduce eyestrain. Advantages of cm? Simple 1 bookstore vs all bookstores, and you can rent books through amazons library system on it and overdrive.
Hardware is a bit dated for extreme web browsing and high definition media but if you just want an ereader with a little more punch than a simple e ink one, a cm powered nook color is perfect! I got hers refurbished for $100 off overstock.com.

Well if your leaning towards the nexus 7, and only going to do reading and simple stuff. It might be worth it look around craigslist for a eight gig model.

If you want to read books mainly on your device, get a kindle, any kindle. Because reading on a tablet (or a pc) ruins your eyes, that is a fact.
So you need to decide your purpose about buying the device you'll buy. If it's for book then get a kindle or nook. If it's for apps and little amount of reading get Nexus.
I hope you don't ignore my warning about eyes, any screen other than e-ink ruins eyes, you'll end up with glasses before you're old.
Another option. You can pickup a refurb NookColor for $140 or less.
Its an old platform, for sure, but its still getting Dev support on XDA. I am currently running 4.1.2 on my 2yo NC. Build quality is outstanding.
This is a very versatile device. You can run dual boot from a SD card, you can Manual Nooter (run stock & android from internal ) or you can just run a custom ROM from internal. If you're lazy, you can buy an SD card already programmed for you.
And it accepts an SD card up to 32gb. Plus you have the option of OTG storage for movies.

I'm using my N7 to read books and it is in no way straining my eyes (I could tell if it did, my eyes are very sensitive to brightness, too much of it and they physically hurt).
Cool Reader is the program I go with in terms of reading, and I set it to a black background and light grey letters on screen.
Granted, that makes it harder to read in sunny conditions, but when I go to work it is usually still dark, so that is not really a concern for me.

Really? And by what authority do you make such a statement? Are you an optometrist? Do you have some clinical studies to back up your broad statement? What a crock.
From Brian's link above:
CONCLUSIONS:
It is not the technology itself, but rather the image quality that seems crucial for reading. Compared to the visual display units used in the previous few decades, these more recent electronic displays allow for good and comfortable reading, even for extended periods of time.

Kindle or N7? Neither
From what it sounds like, your only real beef with the Kindle is the ads. Get yourself a Nook Touch With Glowlight. 1 - no ads. 2 - it's Android based - so if you want to root it, and do some goofy stuff with it (or just clean it up to look as nice as possible using whatever reader you want - like I did) you have that option. It's also more comfortable than the Kindles, less likely to slip out of your hands (with rubberized back). I've seen a *slight* difference between the screens, as far as contrast, but either will look perfectly fine.
As far as the eye strain is concerned. To each their own, I suppose, but I've noticed when I stopped reading on my Nook, and started reading on my N7, my eye strain did increase. After my 2 hour reading sessions are over, the N7 did make my eyes feel a little bit more worn. To be fair, it could be the font size, or spacing, or any of a number of other issues, but I tried to set the N7 to have the most comfortable sizing, just like on my Nook, but I still feel like the Nook is the better way to go between the two strictly for reading. Now my N7 is delegated to gaming, watching Netflix, and helping me with writing ideas on the go (was doing that with my phone, but the N7 is easier to mess with in that regard).
All that said, I *LOVE* my N7, and am always finding new fun uses for it, and will continue to enjoy it until it stops getting updates from Google (prime reason I GOT the Nexus instead of another tablet), nor would I ever give up my Nook, unless it's to get a better e-ink reader.
There's one other PHENOMENAL reason to have an e-ink reader... my Nook 7 has about an 8 hour battery - ish... my Nook - I only have to charge it every few weeks, and even then, it's just because I don't like fully discharging Lithium Ion batteries... I do believe the eink displays are fully capable of 2 month battery life.

I got both the paper white and Nexus 7. I prefer reading on paperwhite.
As for the add you can pay $20 the difference between the add free and add paperwhite to get ride of ads

I've read lots of books on the Kindle Paperwhite, the Nexus 7 and the LG Nitro HD. All have strengths and weaknesses depending on the reading conditions.
The Kindle Paperwhite is outstanding in the daytime both outside and inside. It can be jailbroken and alternate fonts can be added. I like Chinacat and Koorkin Pro fonts (and yes, I purchased a license to the latter). They both have a smooth line texture. I don't like the LED color. It is too blue. Amazon should use warmer color LEDs which cost only a few more pennies. Additionally, the lux distribution is not uniform like a backlit LCD. Hopefully Amazon will obtain newer better light pipe/films on future models.
The Nexus 7 is good at night with white or gray characters on a black background. I don't really like the black letters or the sepia setting. The letters don't seem very sharp... Lots of jaggies... However, for browsing online articles it is great.
The LG Nitro HD is superb indoors in low light or at night. The color scheme is precise and accurate. The fonts are pristine - maybe the 326ppi is the reason. I wish LG would release a 7 inch tablet with a similar quality IPS display. I don't care about looking geeky. I wish I was ignorant so that I could experience sustained bliss.
I must be getting old because I'm about to say - I've been reading on computer monitors for 30 years without any eye strain or vision deterioration. My vision is 20/15 in both eyes. All of these devices are excellent. I read with all of them.
In other words, you can't go wrong with any of these devices...
Tl;dr - N7 is a good buy if you want to do more than read books. If you want to continue using your note 2 for that, just use the paperwhite. ALSO. Make sure you go and play around with the N7 in store for a while before deciding. That might change your mind.
Oh snap. I was about to post this exact topic 2 days ago. I caved and ended up getting a n7 last night. It's just better in my opinion and a few reasons I decided on it. I am an avid reader. I tend to read light novels, manga, novels, textbooks etc. I was all for the paperwhite, but it doesn't seem to handle pdfs all that well and it also can't run the kindle edition of one of my books which is a print replica. So that pretty much threw me towards the n7. The eink display and battery life was really what had me going for the paperwhite, but I charge my devices once a day anyway and if it can last me the day then it's fine. The main purpose of the n7 I bought for myself is to read textbooks in class as well as using it at home instead of my phone. Even though I have a galaxy note, the difference in the screen size is very noticeable. I would recommend the eink reader if you really want something that lasts for 80 hours, want a screen that can be read in any lighting, and do not want to do anything besides reading.

I'm also a student and bought the N7 over the paperwhite. The screen size difference is definitely NOT NEGLIGIBLE. Whoever told you that probably has not used both of them side by side. Although I feel I might switch out my galaxy note for a s3, but I might already be used to the size of the phone to downgrade the screen size. I do not regret purchasing and owning both.
I think someone said it's like 60% bigger or something like that (off the top of my head what I remember seeing in another thread). Also, if you use expanded desktop mode, you can get "hide" the nav buttons and if you're using paranoidandroid, you can use PIE which should help. I already said I use the N7 primarily as a e-reader. I use mantano reader and feedly most of the time and to reduce eye strain, I use lux auto brightness (you can also use screen filter). If you think that computer screens give you eye strain, you probably don't use f.lux on your computer. I wish there was a android version of it, but Lux auto brightness is the closest thing. Also, from the pricing that I saw, they came out to be equal so I went with the n7 (paperwhite 3g + no ads vs n7 16gb).
Hey guys, I just got a replacement of my One (previous one had capacitative buttons' light leaking out of the rightmost bottom part). I just noticed that I have a stuck pixel in here (white) and but not black (which means it's dead, right?). So I was thinking to get a replacement again, but I'm afraid that the other one may have more stuck / dead pixels than this one, because I've read people complaining about multiple pixel problems. So, what do you guys say? Should I get a replacement or just wait for the pixel to un-stuck itself?
The only thing that irks me is that it's in the middle of the whole screen.
*BUMP*
Anyone?
There's a few apps that help with stuck pixels, they just flash the screen multiple colors until the pixel fires correctly.
I had 3 stuck pixels when I got this phone but within a week they fixed themselves

I have about 6 dead/stuck pixels. Tried the apps for a hour, i just requested a new device. Waiting for htc to send me another one before i ship mine back

I did use this app, the impact of the stuck pixel have seemed to be lowered (ran the app 3 times for 30 minutes) as compared to before. But it didn't vanish completely.
Ignore it... I had my HTC One for 2 months now and when I got it there was no stuck pixels... Then within the 2 months usage stuck pixel are popping out and just disappearing within days of ignoring it. Some last for weeks but they all eventually disappeared. I only have 1 stuck pixel now on my unit where somewhere within the 1st month it manage to produce up to 6 stuck pixels.
Wow. I was just thanking my stars a couple days ago that my One was perfect. No gaps in the corners, no dead pixels, no faulty camera, no nothing. But it bricked and now I'm gonna have to get a replacement. Hope my luck holds out.

Just for the clarification; was it a white pixel? And if you increase the brightness of the screen, the brightness of the stuck pixel also increases?
Yes it is white sometimes changing color constantly I know what stuck, hot and dead pixels are
And by the way it's not noticeable on lowest brightness so yeah it's visible only on high brightness

Thanks a bunch, you saved me from getting my second replacement. I was just clarifying my concept of stuck pixel, and not judging your knowledge.
Oh yeah, and what was the average period they got fixed by themselves? How many days / weeks?
Like I said it's random... Only those I've noticed is 4days, 9 days and the longest was I think 5 weeks I always noticed the 5 weeks because it seems like 2 pixels got stuck which is side by side to each other so it created a much brighter white. But it got fixed by itself in 5 weeks estimate. Not sure how it got fixed though probably the constant video playback(I'm an anime junky) or must have cured itself because I'm always setting brightness to the lowest level.
If pixel fixers which changes color everytime does indeed fix these issues then I'm pretty sure it got fixed because of the video playback... Watching anime videos for 4 hours a day sometimes 8 on weekends is an overkill for constant color shifts.

Did you ever try pixel fixer? And that anime stuff is very interesting (changing colors). I used pixel curer for like 80+ minutes on my phone but the pixel doesn't even change itself from white or I think I might not be able to notice as it is so small.
Thanks for all the help, I am limited to 8 thanks / day, so as soon as 24 hours pass on, I'll thank you for all your posts.

80minutes is nothing compared to mine... When I watch an anime you can compare it to running pixel fixer for 4 hours a day And like I said it get's fixed in days or even weeks.
So running 80minutes of pixel fixer is not even comparable to what I do on my phone
xperia e stuck piel
I recently got an xperia e on orange pay as you go from my local carphone warehouse. Last night i noticed a blue/white spot on the screen. After looking at the screen closely more smailer specs appear when you tilt the device around but this one stays visible throughout. They are especially visible in the dark but not so much in sunlight. Another thing to note is that it only appears on dark backgrounds e.g. black.
I have tried a stuck pixel fixer for about half an hour but to no avail.
Since its only a few days old i thought i could return it to carphone warehouse but dose anyone have experience of doing this. I know, because i got my phone on orange, that i can not just replace it for no reason. However i would like to know would they try to fob me off by saying that they can't see them or saying there needs to be more of them to warrant a return. There are a few other things i could say to get a return. For example the proximity sensor does not work in the diagnostics app and there is "no signal" at my house Its hard to get a picture of it otherwise i would've included one.
So really my question is should i try and return it (in the uk we have pretty strong consumer laws (the sale of goods act)) or should I just ignore it and run the flashing light show for longer.
Thanks
James
I though i had a white stuck pixel on my notification bar, i took a screen shot, and it appears on the image, so it appears it is part of the stock htc one wallpaper.
John.
Ive seen no threads on this issue so I decided to make one! But I wanted to know if anyone had any! Personally I had one stuck pixel on my tab s. Yet it was really hard to see I later got it fixed by doing a stuck pixel remover video for about a couple of hours and later installed discreet blue theme. Now its not there! I own the tab s 10.5 Wifi.
So... Has anyone else got a stuck pixel or an image burnt into their screen? Let me know below! Could be useful for others buying this tablet!
I've had the Tab S 10.5 LTE since release, use at least 8 hours daily for work and haven't got any issues in terms of the screen degrading like burn in or stuck pixels, have thoroughly checked to be sure, might have just been a one time thing, generally take years for a burn in on Amoled but even then I have had other AMOLED screen devices for years without a problem
No burn ins on my unit as well , im using the 8.4 as my primary phone and gps. Im always at 1/16th brightness. I also have a 4 yr old 7.7 slate, no burn ins as well. Seems like newer amoleds are not that prone to burn ins. Just to add, im using an all black theme.
Somehow (turning brightness all the way up all the time) my friend burned in a new note 2 in about 3 months. He used his phone a LOT as well.
My Tab S (about a month old now, auto brightness below 10-20% using Velis Auto Brightness, not much used) is perfect for now. However I saw the two 10.5" samples heavily burned at the local mobile shop. Also saw two months old Note 4 heavily burned at the same mobile shop. So it seems burn-in problem with this latest amoled screens still remains.
Thank you guys for your response! Yeah turning the brightness up to 75‰ is how I got mine. That was when I first got my tablet and had it on 75% for the whole month. I want to walamrt the other day to see the samples. The screen seem imrpoved from when I got mine. I will try to use a autobrightness app
Thread should now be a discussion thread about the burned in pixels. Guess I made it look like a question. Thanks forum mods for telling me about this problem and moving the thread back!
I assume this thread is for burned-in and stuck pixel questions/discussion?
If so: I just went to a couple of local stores to test out the Tab S, with an intention to bring one home. I didn't so far -- all devices (4 in 2 different shops) had pretty severe burn-in from the demo programs that Samsung installs and runs on the devices in the store. A couple of them so much that it was actually disturbing for things like browsing plain web pages (white background); you could read the "inverted" text that had burned in.
One store anticipated the device had been on for 10 hours a day since somewhere August last year, which would make it around 10*6*40 or about 2.400 hours of use -- presumably close to max output on the display in "demo mode".
This caused me to hesitate... is this a common problem with the devices, particular to early models, or just something that happens if you run it for too high output -- or will it happen eventually to all devices? A life-time of less than 2.000 hours seems quite low to me in any case.
Also, when/if it happens, are there any ways to "reset" the screen again, or is the damage permanent?
I have a ~2 yr old S4 that does NOT have any burn-in, but I also use that much less, not at 100% brightness and usually with varying content on the screen. I guess the display technology is similar even if the Tab S is a much newer device.
I never had burn in problems in any Samsung amoled devices (since S1).
Just made sure box was sealed and auto brightness was always on.
Actually, I personally have a worst experience with LCD with light bleed and other issues.
Yeah, No problems with my 10.5" Wifi , I watch a lot of Animi and always run it fullscreen, so no black bars, also i set brightness to auto -5 when i am using it indoors.
No stuck or dead pixels, fingers crossed.
John.
@pacc @tinderbox(UK): That sounds re-assuring. Sounds like it's still safe to go ahead and acquire the device (in my case probably the 32GB WiFi 10.5" edition). Hopefully this is the general experience by most people then.
On the LCD bleeding, then yes, that can be quite annoying too!
Just be glad you did not buy the 8.4" version as that is having some problems with the display that might affect some people.

I have 8.4 version and the screen is in perfect condition.
You need to use one of the screen test app to check for any problems with the screen before you buy, or the time runs out for you to return the tablet for a refund.
Some people are not bothered, good for them.
John.
I'll test it out thoroughly while it can still be returned. Thanks for the heads-up on that issue as well
If you really want to find every possible quality problem with the display, view a light gray screen in the dark, using a screen test app , set the brightness to low, look for circles and clouding, as well as dead or hot pixels.

I have an S4 I bought used and have used for about a year. It is getting heavily burned in. I am questioning how long this display will last. Hopefully by the time I need to replace it the screens will be cheap
Sent from my SM-T800 using XDA Free mobile app
What was burned-in on your S4 , notification bar?, home screen icons? , were you using an navigator app? , how high did you have you brightness set?
Using an low brightness setting can reduce the change of screen burn-in, but if you live in an sunny country you most likely have the brightness set virtually to max to allow you to see the screen outside.
Thanks

I have an S4 I bought used and have used for about a year. It is getting heavily burned in. I am questioning how long this display will last. Hopefully by the time I need to replace it the screens will be cheap

I decided to check for stuck pixels on my Tab S again. Turns out, I have 3 stuck ones now! They are really really tiny that I can even notice them. Took me a minute or so to search for them. In order to see them, you have to use a holo background and not full black ones. You would have to find an dark gray image or something like an inverted app but isn't full black which is a good thing for me I guess. The good thing is that they don't appear on bright colors (red, blue, white, etc) which I personally couldn't see it. A holo background or gray image is when I can see it the most. When I put a black image, its fully black with no stuck pixels in sight. So that could mean they still work and turn on and off fine. So I'm thinking it's just stuck when displaying colors other than black.
I've kept my brightness 1/4 bright all the time, only used it for watching videos and browsing the web mostly. It's been one year since I bought this and I personally don't mind it. This is what I've seen so far
Edit: using a screen filter app to darken the screen on an holo image made it show the most so I can see. This lowest stock brightness doesn't seem to show a lot unless you get close to the screen.

A couple of weeks ago a guy bought an demo 10.5" and it had an perfect Samsung logo and stripe burned almost across the entire center of the display, the worst i have ever see.
He was asking would burning in the inverted image reduce the burn-in, I found the exact Samsung wallpaper responsible and inverted it for him, but i never heard anymore, it really needed an new screen.
John.
Hey guys! I would like to buy galaxy note 8, but since there was some posts and stories when people having big problems with it's screen (even after 2-3 months) - I am still in consideration. I am talking about burn in and light leak. I know that some people will say it's not very noticeable in some cases and just "chill out", but when I pay for phone 1000 euro - Phone should be perfect.
So I am creating a poll and expecting note 8 users to respond
If you have any problems with screen, could you also mention since when did you experienced it? (e.x. 1-8 months after purchasing)
P.s. As I experienced, note series phones has the most problems with "burn in". The reason I want this phone is because of the stylus pen, which I find very useful.
I have finally created some burn in but it from keeping Pokemon go open for hours and hours at a time. I've now found that using the Tiles app to hide system bars for all apps, but it's too late now. Mine is very faint and only shows in white and blue screen tests. I couldn't see it until I actually ran the burn in test.

Would warranty service replace the screen which has burn-in, or you haven't contacted them yet? Because I asked at Telia in Denmark, and they said that they would.

I can confirm screen burn-in is covered under samsung warranty from experience. My screen burn in came from the enabled auto brightness setting. Quite often my phone is holstered near the front windshield of my car. During the day, sometimes the sunlight would trigger daylight mode which is 100% brightness. Unaware of this, I was exposing the screen to long periods of youtube and maps while driving for months.. Next thing you know, screen burn in. I'm sure many cases are a result of this. So now I use an app too closely monitor auto-brightness. I think as long as one keeps brightness at no higher than 60% will avoid screen burn-in.
I've been using my Note 8 N950N for about 3 months now with auto brightness enabled and everything seems fine so far. I can get 2 days battery with lite usage.
Yeah I could get a replacement but I don't want to get a refurbished phone. I hate getting a device and wondering what they did to actually "fix" whatever was wondering with the original person's defective unit.

If you purchase it directly from Samsung. You should be fine.
Be wary with Samsung's repair centers
Sent my phone for repair last week( display burn-in) received it with the same problem ( and was charged for a repair, which I paid thinking it was for the screen ) what they changed was the charging port which I had no problem with . Now they want me to send it again and I won't . Won't get charged again
No burn in for me. Got the phone on January this year (2018). Flashed and rooted on the first week. Loving the phone.
I Have my note 8 since Nov 2017 for almost 11 months, no burns or light bleed, nor pinkish tint, or peeling paint, no false moisture warnings, no excessive batt drain, no sluggish charging, no lag, zero random reboots, no freezing, ram always above 1 GB, cpu temp always below 49 oC, perfect cameras, excellent call quality, fast gps all the time, even indoors, nothing wrong in any way, I am very, very pleased with it, btw, I am running it with 7.1.1
Perfect cameras - not. Selfie - awful !

Mine is almost 7 months old, there is only light leaks (was there when i bought the phone and you will get used to it) but it really doesnt effect the phone nor water resistance. I have swam with my phone many times in both pool and sea, still rocking. If you use full brightness even with the red limit bar ofcourse you will burn the screen. I have used it on that mode many times but still no issues with it. About light leak, it really doesnt bother, i had xa ultra and sides were a little bit curved and i could see the same light leak. Its not that of a big deal.

I've had mine for 8 months now. Started with screen becoming less responive to my touch and stylus. About a week ago, my display started opening and exiting apps, couldn't remain on same page, and scrolling on it's own. I took it to my carrier and they replaced it no charge.
Hi All,
I am facing screen burn in issue within months of using this phone, am I the only UNLUCKY one?
EDIT: Update, Got phone back from ASC, they told the display was defective and they replaced Display and Battery, I see some dust particles in the Camera Lens and Flash modules but its okay as its not affecting the Camera performance. But I still think if I use it the same way as before the Burn in is imminent :crying:
Have you been spending the whole day on facebook and watching youtube vertically ?
I've had my ROG 2 since mid September and I'm basically on it constantly, I'm always using it, and I just tested mine for burn in and I can't even find the slightest little bit of burn in anywhere.
So everyone needs to understand that if they want to bring up burn in issues it is always needed to post some pictures taken by another camera
To test your phone for burn in its better to test a fully gray picture cause it shows most uniformity or burn in issues
Also try to test a fully blue picture, blue shows even the slightest burns

Can you please show us pictures taken with a different device? Also, use a gray background while at it.
Thanks

Image added, there's already a post in Zentalk Forums, just wanted to get expert opinions of XDA members, Thanks.
History: I used ROG 2 only purely for gaming as I already have Note 9 as my primary and daily driver, I played long sessions of PUBG Mobile mostly and the signs of burn in started kicking in within 3 months of usage.
Have given the phone to ASC, they told they will replace the screen under warranty. Waiting for an update from them.

Yes, I think you may have been unfortunate with a defective device. It's good that you still have warranty.
This is unfortunate news.
I have turned off the suggestion bar on the Google keyboard so I don't burn in the Google logo. I have gone dark mode on everything and have also enabled full immersive mode to hide the status bar when possible. I've gone to the extreme of using Waze only on another phone via hotspot from the ROG II.
Sounds extreme but after getting burn in twice on my s8+, I'm taking no chances with this phone.
I feel your pain and hopefully it's just a defect.
Guys dont panic! Burn in will happen at some point even if you use dark theme and everything, and the screen isnt that expensive anyways.
But i have a question from the op, which app are these burns coming from and on what brightness level do you normaly use the phone???!

You are absolutely RIGHT! BurnIn is gonna happen if not now but in days to come for anyone its the drawback of AMOLED.
The burn in was of the PUBG Mobile Buttons and HUD layouts which was the only game I mostly played in my phone for long hours and at times at max brightness which seems to have been the cause. But again my complaint is ASUS puts out banner as GAMING BEAST, then they should have probably gone with a LCD screen instead of AMOLED imho.
You are damn right they should have! A gaming phone with OLED panel is just a joke! In no time we will have burnins from all static HUD content of different games lol
I'm getting burn in from the Call of Duty HUD.
This is actually quite annoying and it will only get worse
Although I really enjoy using this phone with its no notch display and rgb eye on the back, I would definitely get an lcd high end phone If I could...
