Refresh a widget - Tasker Tips & Tricks

Can I set tasker to press a button on a widget periodically?
The widget shows the phone credit (internet consuption etc) but it doesn't refresh iteself, so I'd like to refresh it automatically with tasker every hour.
Many thanks.

I imagine you could do this with auto tapping, a very manual process!

2G/3G one click toggle widget?

Is there a ONE CLICK 2G/3G toggle widget? I've tried Extended Power Control, but that toggle only opens up the Mobile Networks page, so it becomes a 2 click toggle.
I know HTC roms have this toggle so why not others? I've tried searching around but couldn't find any

Both only have shortcuts the the network settings page which makes it 2 clicks (3 clicks if you include the back/home screen button) Any 1 click widgets out there?

Read the description on those apps. The OS does not allow one-click toggle of 2G/3G, so they did the next best thing by taking you straight to the settings.

Well figured since HTC could do it on their own ROM, someone could figure something out
I have a HTC phone but can't see a widget to do this. Care to elaborate?
For Nexus such widget needs to be a part of the ROM - since it needs to be signed with ROM key for system access. There's a thread about it in Development section. And that's why HTC could make such widget (assuming that they did).

Stock clock/weather location update?

Hi,
Yet another strange thing I am having. For setting the weather location in LG's home clock/weather widget I select "current location". Can it really be tru that it does not update likek the HTC weather? I can't use a weather report based on eg. my home address when I travel 100 km for work!

Seems to be a problem, yes because there is no proper configuration...
It's a great widget but it also updates (refreshes) very slowly and this can not be adjusted.
You travel 100km for work!
I also had a problem with changing my location.
The solution was de-install and install the widget again.
Then you can change the temp, location, time whene to update etc..

You can get the that screen after hitting the weather picture on the icon then menu then settings... but it's doesn't have a "follow me" or "update frequency" option as far as I can tell.

No, I can't find any further options. How can You de-install / install something built in the OS? Are You rooted??

Yeah, 104 KM to be exact. Each way...but its 7 days on/off.
your not exactly de-installing it you remove the widget from your screen. hold it and then drag it to the bin. Then you put the widget back.

I have tried this several times but it does still not give me as much options as You state. No update freq. change! And still it does not update on current location unless I manually click inside the widget.
I also just bought the phone so the method is a bit extencive.
what you can do is push on the widget so that if wil onfold.
Then press on the left button next to the home button.
and press options.
You than can change the temp. as in fahrenheit or celcius.
You can also ad multiple locations.
You can't do anything about the auto update.
Use Fancy Widget, there is a fee version on marked works very nice.
Its pitty. This widget is really beautifull, even with animations. Only think which I am missing is refresh rate setting :-( I hope that this can be solved in near future...
yap, the widget its beautiful, can anyone has a fixed in this one, i'm from New Zealand, Daylight saving just began, but the clock of the widget still the same. the actual clock is different to the clock of the widget, even the update is at the button of the widget +1 hour . see picture. thanks

[Q] Power Saver shortcut

Hi all.
Does anyone know of a way to turn on the Power Saver with 1 click from a shortcut on one of the home screens?
It's in the extended quick settings of most custom roms, so I know a 1-click solution must be possible, but couldn't find anything obvious on how to do it. I'd just like it as shortcut on my home screen (& also as a result be able to run it from tasker!)
Any ideas?
Col.
Bump...
Still can't find a way to do this.
As I said above, i'm sure there must be a way to do it, otherwise how could custom rom's extended quick settings (ViperOne rom is a prime example) activate it with one click
Any ideas anyone?
Maybe there's a shell command that would work?
With 4.2.2 you can activate it only in settings or with the viper in the EQS.
But also in other rom if you will change the EQS number
Two fingers swipe from notification bar and 1 click-Power saver on/off !

Yes, I am currently running the ViperOne rom & that's what made me think it could be possible. On ViperOne's EQS, you have one click to turn on the Power Saver. It doesn't open the power manager app and "click" the button to turn on the power saver, so logically there is some code in the Viper EQS that can turn on the power saver directly. I wanted to know if that could be done in a separate app, or what the direct command is (shell command?). With an app or shell command, I could turn on the power saver from a Tasker profile.

Didn't know about the 2 finger swipe though... Useful, but again isn't quite what I want. Thanks though.

I don't know if it still works.. I haven't used it in years, but have you tried setting up a shortcut via the AnyCut app or other similar applications?
EDIT: Appears AnyCut is gone. QuickShortcutMaker from the Play store is another being recommended according to my googlefu.

Tried that, there is a way to get a shortcut direct to the Power Settings app, but not to turn on the Saver directly. Lots of other direct shortcuts though which may be useful in future!
Still searching...

Tasker will do it:
Create a task called Power Saver (or whatever you want) and select 'Load App'.
Check the 'Show All' box in the app list, and Power Saver Settings becomes visible.
Should have a home screen shortcut to toggle the power saver mode.

I see. Well you could try Power Toggles app. I used it for a while and it is very good. It should allow you to use a widget to toggle the power saver mode.

Yes, and it works!
Credit to @j to the 4n
As I said in the ViperOne thread, the precise shell command that worked on my phone was...
sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db "update 'system' set value='1' where name='user_powersaver_enable';"
value='0' works for disable as well
and my recent comment....
colthekid said:
After some testing on this last night I can confirm what @j to the 4n said, it is turning the power saver on (you can see the screen dim after 20-30 seconds), but it's not immediately updating the quicksettings icon, although again, it does update eventually (especially after a screen off/on). The status bar notification also doesn't appear. However if, as said above, you open the power settings, the notification appears and it also updates the quicksettings icon.

Help with screen timeout when using Tunein radio app

The TuneIn app overrides the Android system screen timeout. If I don't manually turn the screen off, it will stay on indefinitely. Not good.
First, I made a task in Tasker that sets the screen timeout to 1 minute. Next, I made a profile in Tasker that runs this task when the TuneIn app is running. However, it still doesn't work. The screen still stays on.
Could anyone give me a hand with this?
Thanks
The app is probably forcing its own screen timeout.
Check its settings. You might be able to disable that.
Or, have Tasker actively turn off the screen.
Yes, TuneIn is definitely overriding the system screen timeout and there are no settings to disable this.
I have tried to have Tasker turn off the screen when TuneIn is running, but it isn't working which is why I asked for help here.
Any suggestions?

If manually turning it off works, so should turning off using tasker.

Perhaps, have Tasker send a "Power button press" event, to turn off the screen?

That's a great idea. It appears that I have to be rooted to access power button input. I plan to root so maybe this will be my best option.
Thanks for replying

Automatic brightness resets

I prefer manual brightness setting. My CLT109 keeps reverting to automatic brightness. It appears to happen after a restart and maybe when opening a browser. I use Chrome.
Does a know of a workaround without routing?
install quickshortcut apps, in the apps type "battery" , choose setting, choose any shorrcut that has"Powerusagesummary", click "try"
you will be directed to the battery usage , in that area you will find ADAPTIVE BRIGHTNESS...turn it off
then go to automatic brightness in setting and untick it
remember you will need to do this everytime you reboot the phone
hit thanks if this help

Hi, can I ask you a question? If you set the manual brightness, for example to 70%, when opening chrome or Gmail or Facebook, note that it is lowered?

Hi. Yeah. I might have to change my OP. I notice it when I open an app. But I think it's only happening after a restart.

It always happens to me, if I set the manual brightness and open Facebook or Gmail after a while known a change of light, it goes down. If I return to the home, he gets up

So is it standard behaviour that on reboot it reverts to automatic?
Fix brightness dim in certain aps
Enable developer options and set animation duration scale to 0.5 mine worked that and have custom brightness and no longer auto dimming.

But does this process also work using automatic brightness? Because I have the problem of brightness that goes down in some Apps like Facebook or Chrome
I have similar problem. I want to be automatic as I had with all my android phones before.
But mate 20 pro is a way to agressive. I allways have to correct brightness to +.
