Anyone else noticed that WhatsApp notifications and calls get delayed and you have to open the app to receive them? Whatsapp web also loses connection.
I found many previous threads for other Huawei phones with the same issue and tried what they suggested but the menus on the P20 are different so I haven't found some of the options listed. Anyone found a way to make sure WhatsApp is highest priority/never sleeps?

No problems here, even with the default battery settings
I have the same issue and it´s a real pain. Any news on how to fix this?
Hey there,
I want to change/enable the notification sounds on a new mail for the Outlook app.
I got to:
Settings --> E-Mail section --> Notifications --> sound for a new message
If I select this, I will be redirected to the notification settings of Android, where I can disable notifications.
Anyone having this as well?
How shall I change the sounds then?
Attached some screenshots of the screens (in German)
Anyone does have an idea?
I do have this in several apps, but here it's driving me nuts.
I had the same problem with Outlook. Ended up with uninstall, and changed notification sound first thing when I re-installed. Worked like a charm.
Any solution yet?
I'm having the same issue. I tried unistalling, rebooting and reinstalling but the issue is still there. I like to set different incoming message tones as I monitor several different accounts.
I'm having the same issue. I tried unistalling too, rebooting and reinstalling too, but the issue is still there. Sound for Outgoing is ok. Carsten
I connected Microsoft about this issue. After mentioning that it was in a Huawei P20 Pro, this is the response that I received:
"Thank you, i understand but this is really related to Huawei devices as it works on other devices with Android Oreo.
I'm really sorry about that but as i have said, this was reported to our Engineering Team and they confirm that's related to Huawei devices as they are customized.
Please let me know if you have any other questions"
Typical useless Microsoft answer
Same problem here. Can't change default tone for Messages, Gmail, Outlook, Outlook calendar and more... According to Huawei support (Norway), the development team is aware of the issue, and are "working on it".
See this thread on how to access the Settings necessary to customize the notifications for all apps.
It works great! Let me know if you need help getting it working.
I've also created a thread here on how to do this with Tasker. I have unique notifications for each of my apps now, plus you can set additional conditions/triggers the other apps or methods don't allow. If you're not using Tasker yet you're really missing out on the potential this phone has. You can find the thread here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/hu...-to-custom-app-notifications-rid-one-t3821776
If it is a Huawei problem it is strange that you can set notifications for some apps (Hangouts and Whatsapp for instance) and not others. You would think if google can sort it for Hangouts they could do it for the messaging app! Makes no sense to me.

It's because some apps handle notifications in-app (like WhatsApp) and others let the Android system handle them. The ones that rely on Android handling in EMUI 8.1 seem to be forced to a single default sound. It's actually a very simple explanation as to what's happening, as to WHY Huawei would do this I'm as confused as you. There are a few available workarounds at least.

I agree but why for instance are someone like Google inconsistent between their own apps (hangouts / messaging). The whole thing is nuts.

Yeah that blows my mind too. Different development teams, lack of a base standard and poor communication between teams maybe? That would be on par for some of Google's past work lol. A lot of programs have become fragmented from their own counterparts within the Google ecosystem I would think.

Perhaps because Android Messages is installed as a system app on the P20 Pro.

Thank you for linking this!
I now have a P20 Lite and my wife has an Honor 10.
This was driving me crazy, but that solution worked perfectly. Especially as I was already using Nova!
Cheers!
I have the same problem. Uninstalling Outlook and reinstalling, I now get a sound but I still can't change it. It only allows "Outlook Email" as my sound.
Same with the Sky Sports and BBC news app, I get the generic notification sound, no option for there own breaking news sound.
Same issues with Huawie P20 pro
I have the same problem with outlook, new mail notifications, very annoying!
for sent mail sounds, the option to change the sound is available, but no option to change the sounds for the received mail, it just doesn't make sense to me at all!
I agree it must be down to Huawie P20 pro
solved !
I have the very same problems, after reading many threads on here I came across this, and the app works 100%

If anyone still having trouble changing the sound for the received email on outlook.
Just install Alertify from google playstore and set a specific sound to use for outlook. Personally I really depend on seeing when an email arrives and I set up a car alarm mp3 to go off to be sure of it.
Hope this helps someone.
Hello there,
I tried several Android 9 custom roms from the local xda rom forum and faced an issue with WhatsApp notifications in all of them.
When I use the phone and receive a new message, it shows a notification for it properly, I also get notifications in the lockscreen if the phone was used like 5 minutes ago.
But as soon as the phone is unused for like 15 minutes and I wake it up, no WhatsApp notifications are shown (notifications from other apps are), neither in the lockscreen nor after I woke it up. I then need to open the app manually, only then I get all new messages and corresponding notifications at one blow.
So far, WhatsApp is the only app where I noticed this problem, notifications from other apps like Telegram and Gmail work without trouble and as intended.
I always do a clean flash, don't use any customizations and set up WhatsApp freshly. I also excluded WhatsApp from Doze in the battery settings, but this didn't solve the problem.
In MIUI and other Nougat-based roms, I don't face this issue. I didn't test many Oreo-based roms to give a report about them concerning this issue.
I'm not sure if I do something wrong or if there really is an issue.
Do WhatsApp notifications work for you without problems?
Or do some of you also face this issue? If yes, were you able to fix it?

I am having same issue with WhatsApp.
Gmail and Telegram works fine for me, there is no issue with that. but i have issue with Instagram direct message that it does not shows until i open app but other notifications such as comment, new following are shown properly but i think it is a bug with Instagram since other notifications working fine.

Hi
I was hoping that MIUI11 would resolve this issue for me but it doesn't. Is there anyone who has any idea about how to get all notifications on my AOD? I only see a WhatsApp, phone, messages, ... icon but for apps like Telegram there is none. This is weirdly inconvenient tbh.
I did a Google search and found some old topics about this but no real solution, maybe someone did find one and is willing to share?
I'm on 9T Pro but also interested in a fix. I use three different email clients and only Gmail shows a notification

You can add all your emails to gmail client, you will get notifications for all of them and set different sounds to different emails.

thats a issue with telegram itself, dont have any fix until now as i know...directly from the app you can config the notifications to show on lockscreen and all but, it doesnt show.
but, if you have no problems settig up a 3rd app to get that notificationsm just search...i belive there's some apps that can enable telegram notifications on lockscreen, but it need patience to make it work good.

I know you mean well but that is not a fix. That is what is referred to as a work around is is not suitable in my situation as it is a poor solution for my needs. That is why I specifically have different clients.

Ok. It's your choice But there is no fix, the only option is to ask developers to add your email clients to list of apps that appear
btw on xiaomi eu ROM forum exist thread for this
I have my P20 pro since Mars and I have problems with my SMS app notifications, they are not reliable, sometimes i receive a sms I get the notification in that moment, other times I open the app to see that I had recibed a sms several hours erlier and din't get any notification like sound, led light, diplyed on the Always on screen or dot over the app.
I'm using the MS launcher (the E.M.U.I 9.1 is just awful) with all permition and app runing on back ground. This apens with de system sms app or any other app for sms that I instaled and just apens with the SMS app everything else works perfect, also tryed other launchers and hard reset the phone.

Did you try settings>>battery>>app launch? Make sure you select the sms app and set it to manage manually and make sure the options to run in background etc are both set.
Cheers

If you're using the stock app, have you turned off WiFi messages?? In chat feature??
Doesn't always work and can cause delays as it will assume your recipients also have the same features set up.

You aren't online. There's no connectivity icon at all.
We have the same phone so it should be available.
Unless its region specific, but I doubt that.
Install another messaging application, handcent used to be pretty good, but it's been a while.

I think that is a regional feature, even with mobile data on still don't have 'chat features'. I also have sms organizer from Microsoft, nice app, but the problem persist.
