Google Assistant - Huawei P9 Questions & Answers

I had the google assistant the other day and now its gone again, anyone's else had this?
I'm in the UK if that makes any difference.

For now, google assistant is not avaible everywhere, because it was made especially for google pixel, so maybe there was an update for your phone, but you disabled Google Assistant, try checking your Google settings on phone, if everything is as it should be.

Try installing the latest beta version of Google play services.

I installed version 10.5.37 beta and Google assistant activated. I'm from the Philippines so I'm not supposed to receive it yet.

Change your phones language to English US. Then clear Play Services and Google app cache.
Assistant should appear after a restart and a few minutes.

It's re-appeared again now let's hope it stays

Go to settings, application manager/All scroll down to Google Play services then clear data. Then go to Google Play Store then there clear data also. Now reboot your phone. See if that works.

I have tried clearing out the cache and data of my Google Play Store but no luck. I haven't tried it to reboot though.
I've read somewhere that I need to update my Google Play Store? If so, what's the latest version? Thank you!
Your on 4.1.10 that's the latest version I think, Google Play updates itself when newer version's are out. Here try this last version for JB 4.1.2. http://d-h.st/DxV. this is Google Play 4.1.6

Try some of these tips.
Clear dalvik-cache and reboot (doesn't have to be all of the dalvik-cache, you can just delete "/data/dalvik-cache/[email protected]@[email protected]" and "/data/dalvik-cache/[email protected]@[email protected] ").Clear the Play Store's data and reboot.Clear Google Services Framework's data and reboot.Delete PS and GSF's ODEX files ("/system/app/Phonesky.odex" and "/system/GoogleServicesFramework.odex") and reboot.Uninstall updates either via Settings->Applications (or whatever it's called in the Android version on your phone/tablet) or manually delete "/data/app/com.android.vending.apk" and "/data/app/com.google.android.gsf.apk" and reboot.Delete your Google account from your phone/tablet, readd it, and reboot.Edit: I forgot to include clearing GSF's data.

Did you get Google Play to work at all after using them tips above. Some find deleting your Google account, reboot phone then relogin again helps.

Yes, I cleared the data off my Google Play Store and restarted the phone. It is working now!
Thank you!
Also one of the possible reasons why it is not working is brcause they were running a maintenance in the time when it was night in the us and day in the rest of the world.

Google Assistant able?

Has anyone here been able to get google assistant working by updating google play services to 10.5.37? I've upgraded and haven't seen the assistant pop up..
Am i missing something?
Edit: just found out that it depends on where or not Google puts your account into it. I guess updating Play Services is just part of the equation?
No assistant here too...

That is correct, Google have to enable Assistant for your account on the server side, then the Google Now will automatically be replaced by Assistant.
You probably know..
But while you're waiting for Google to flip switch for you,, then if you install Google Allo you get the full assistant inside that application

Yes I'm aware of that. Just awaiting the Play services assistant... Cheers!

How do I enable Google Assistant? Have latest Google play services & Google App.

I have Google play services version 11.0.47 : I have signed up for beta testing on Google play
Google App version : 7.2.20.21
Language : English (US)
I have tried clearing all data under "Manage Data" for both the apps and restarted.
But I still get only Google now on tap. Not Google Assistant. What am I missing?
My phone : Moto X 2014 : purchased in the US, never rooted.
Same for my wife and I. Same phone, same situation. Can't find anyone or any forum that has a solution. Must be a problem with Google and Motorola.

You can try this way
https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/general/android-7-0-google-assistant-t3535257
Success for me.
Finally found a fix
No root or side loading required, and unlike what it says in the post, it activates with a home button long press!
I tried the first option. Let me know if it works! https://www.xda-developers.com/get-google-assistant-on-android-lollipop-marshmallow-nougat-tablets-without-root/

Google play services updating when viewing maps

Anyone else have a Google play services updating error when trying to view maps in apps like Uber and Rightmove? Pretty annoying on a new P20 pro.
Does the same thing in the national trust app. There was another app it did this in too, but can't remember which.

Only fix for me is to clear data/cache of google play services and it appears its only a temporary fix as the issue comes back again so its a bit annoying to have to keep doing that to get working maps on 3rd party apps but its the best we can do unless Huawei/Google comes out with a fix
Mines just started doing this. So has my partner's p9. According to other websites this is a problem for all Huawei/honor devices since a play services update. They are working on a fix with high priority
They've fixed it with the latest play services beta

Is there a Beta out for this? I'm on the program but I don't see any update.

Ten minutes after writing this, I see the Beta is now available. I installed it and it does solve the program. All my location based apps work. I guess this also fixes some issues I saw with not being able to select my Google account for some apps (e.g. Google Home, Wear OS etc).
The beta on the play store is the one that breaks the functuality, version. 12.6.73

The Beta is actually 12.6.85 - that's what I have installed on my phone. If you look at the Beta version in the Play Store listing, it says 12.6.73 but when you install it version 12.6.85 gets installed. I think they have not updated the Play store listing page for the Beta.

Google Maps 'feature'

Not sure if this is now new but before while driving with maps open and I say ok Google it would operate in the maps app with the search at the top but since I recently updated if I say ok Google now it doesn't stay in maps it opens the Google app and I have to say ok Google again really annoying. Is there a way to get it back. Thanks.
Can you check 'Ok Google detection' in Navigation Settings in Maps Settings once?
