If there comes the Honor v8 with 4GB RAM and Kirin 950 to europe, would you still decide for P9 or buy v8?
I mean, the v8 can be overclocked and run like a 955. Im not interested in 2k, cause of possible bad graphics.
Lets wait and see, if the camera settings is the same, but i think it can be ported as soon as the device comes out.
If only the smallest version comes to official selling points, then P9 would be my favorite.
Some hints or opinions about that?
Honor also releases Kernel Sources, or it can be dropped from another huawei device?

Camera is definitely different. Although both sport the same dual 12MP rear cameras and 8MP front shooter, it's confirmed that Leica was only involved with the P9 and not the V8, but they still work the same way by combining the RGB and black and white image together.
While we are still on the topic of cameras, there is one big difference when it comes to camera features. For one, even though the V8 has dual lens camera, it doesn't have any monochrome mode like the P9. On the other hand, the V8 has this gif like moving image capture feature, which the P9 doesn't have (but perhaps could have with later updates), and I highly recommend that you visit this site to see how cool it is.
Also, another key difference is the VR feature from V8, during the reveal, it was shown that the device features a professional eye protection technology for the screen for watching movies or playing games in the long run, and has a special cinema mode when the phone is laid horizontally, along with stereo speakers to enhance the overall viewing experience. P9 is purely for photography purpose.
So. Whats the verdict?
I'm also considering those 2. And huawei ascend mate 8.
im more in stereo speakers, thats why i cant 100% take the P9.

it depends on which feature you like more one for VR and the other for camera respectively. Personally, I'd take P9 because I prefer photography and slim phone.
So what about you?
Just done the "in good light" comparison of camera in P9 Lite vs P8 Lite and... there is no detail in P9 Lite
Everything looks plastic and flat, little details are gone due to strong and agressive demosaic alghoritm in P9 Lite jpeg engine.
P8 Lite is far far better in image quality
Here is the comparison, please view it in 100% and just look for structure in this paving

Please look close at the structure of the paving.
The same same happens with grass or leaves or forests in landscape and every minor detail in pictures done with P9 Lite
You can also see the "plastic flat" pictures done with P9 Lite in this comparison

Do You think will be there any update of camera firmware or some RAW saving option or just some presets or settings with detail structure to restore small details?

I didn't test p9 lite camera in good light conditions, but from my opinion, it sucks....
In every photo is a terrible lack of detail and a good amount of noise.
I've tested "pro mode" on 2 software version b104 and b131 which I've received earlier today.
Change log don't provide any information about camera improvements.
About raw... Definitely isn't an option for this device.

Honestly, I doubt it. There were no users that complained to Huawei directly, so I think it won't be resolved.
I remember for one of my previous devices, Xperia M2, Lollipop update messed up the camera quality, so I, and a number of other users, complained to Sony, and they rolled out a specific update that solved the issue.
Personally, if you "take care" of how you shoot photos, results can be amazing.

hello and thank you for answers, i have the phone for two weeks and i tried all settings, the the i have the same opinion like OP i had alot of phones, perosnaly i like this one, but the camera just killed me, my previous phones were lenovo k4, huawei p8lite, lg d820, sony z2 and i stoped on p9 lite, the p9 lite have the worst camera actually the p9 lite have more similar camera to xperia z2, im going to complain now on huawei website, i hope someone follow me so they can do something, its amazing phone but the camera just remove the stars from the phone.
Wtf dude, daytime camera is freakin' awesome, and I had LG G3 and Xperia Z3 before this. Nighttime camera is excellent with Pro or Night mode. Calm your tits.

fisrt of all, hello!
Second, its rude to talk like this, did you see for what OP is complaining, THIS IS THE PROBLEM, thats why i and other people discuss this, the camera is not good, i had p8 lite and like in the photo the camera of p8 lite is better and with strong detail and contrast, not to mention rich colors, like you see is not only me, if you have something useful to say let me read it, otherwise your opinion dont matter, and again look at the OP photos to see diffrence.
Hi, everyone.
I agree, for me, oficial camera overprocess and get plastic efect on low ligth conditions. I try many camera apps ( proshot, footej camera, snap camera, htc10 camera , google camera, freedcam) and all they get TOO MUCH noise in all conditions. In official camera, obviously the overprocess is for erase the noise , but you get plastic efect, and other apps, get more detailed images but very noisy in all conditions even day light.
Its my experience, hope some app could process and disapear noise with out plastic efect.
Sorry for my english

hello, you cant make better photos with apps, the problem is not the camera is the software wich stop the full potential of the camera, i send a complain to huawei about the problem, they send me mail to make hard reset and try pro mode, i tell them i tried everything the the result is the same, i chated with support of my coutry, they tell me that they will send that to huawei devs, suggest every one who own p9 lite to send a compalin, in other thread of xda are talking for the new andoird N but there is not fix for the camera.
The camera is good...other cams are just better...

im waiting the official update. i dont trust leaked versions.
Hello everyone!
Creating this thread in order to clarify some details about our device.
I recently bought it (Europe version-xt1085,3Gb RAM/32gb) but instead of a SD625 it has a SD626. How is it possible? And giving the fact that there are rumors that also note that our camera sensor is a Sony IMX 258 Bayer and not a samsung CMOS makes me doubt much of the initial information provided or found. Can somebody please post different screenshots from the first page of CPU-Z and also to check system/etc/camera for camera msm Sanders XML for those who have the device rooted? I do not want to root it yet as Oreo updates are rolling in a couple of days.
I also want to find a solution to exceed the limitations of the software processing of the camera to the full potential of the sensor (if it is a Sony one indeed).
Thank you
Also take a look at the attachment.
Ok
SD 626 too
Mine also says Snapdragon 626, it's a CPU-Z bug. But regarding the camera sensor I have no idea if there's any way to improve the image quality via modifying the image processing.

I checked with different applications. You might be right. It is very odd tho.
What about the camera files?
If you go to Moto G5 Plus's theming and modding forum, you'll see a thread explaining how. And how it gives rise to possibilities of other devices as well.

Are you sure thats not the selfie cam? Pretty sure the dual camera has been 100% confirmed a sony sensor already
(Link) This guy contacted moto directly and they said it was the IMX258 / IMX258 Mono

You can see clearly the name S5K3L8 as the rear sensor (mono&rgb). And at the other screenshot, the name S5K4H8 which is a selfie samsung sensor. You can google both of these sensors and their details are going to match our device's details.
There are also two files of the IMX258 in the camera folder but they're useless or maybe they put it to fake the users who, like me and many more, would be pissed off if they found out what a crap of a sensor they would have in their device.
The dev of the camera improvements of G5 Plus told me that the only way of improving it is by copying the tuning of other S5K3L8 sensors used in other devices. But it is used in Xiaomi Redmi 4 and its camera is worse than ours so i don't think that is going to be a good idea. Another way actually is by modifying the libs yourself. Which i cannot do at the moment.
Just use Google Camera for taking pictures atm. Its HDR+ mode is a touch of magic.

The only way to confirm properly is to look at the hardware. Any idea where we may be able to find images of just the Samsung camera module so I can compare it the the one in my G5S+?
To be honest I'm very happy with the way my HDR+ photos turn out.
My family are convinced this has a better camera than the iPhone SE from using gcam, so the phone must be somewhat capable of good photos Low light photos are crap though, tons of noise.
EDIT: Samsung specs say the S5K3L8 sensor is capable of only 30fps. Given we can record 1080p/60fps maybe it isn't that sensor?
That's strange, my g5s plus can only shoot 1080p/30fps. I don't know if it was after the latest camera update or not.
Edit: my mistake, apparently i was looking at the front camera settings. The rear camera can shot 1080p/60 just fine and are up to 30fps 4k

The samsung sensor is capable of shooting 4k videos but it is not enabled in most devices that are using it. For example in Xiaomi Redmi devices. I do not know precisely why and how but any speculation would bring no improvement to the camera whatsoever.
Hey guys, I just ordered a Huawei P20 Pro and I was kind of worried about the lack of stabilization in 4K video recording. I was just wondering if Huawei has mentioned bringing stabilization in an update at some point in the future? I know OnePlus was able to do it with the OnePlus 5, so I really don't see why Huawei wouldn't be able to do it as well.

They made some improvement in camera section in few recent updates. Slow mo feature is at least as good as S9 now. It can auto detect object movement and start the slow mo. Pro mode has got some improvements as well. More variables are available now, like ISO 102K (previously only up to 3200, then updated to become 6400, and now at full capability)
I think we will eventually see the stabilisation in few more updates. Just cross the finger and hope that kirin 970 is capable enough.
They just released the GPU boost for Mate 10 btw, cant wait for it to arrive in P20. Or maybe, ported. :silly:
