Question about GSM Bands in Europe

I have a quick question regarding GSM bands.
I'm using the Bell i9000M (on 850/1900 band) right now, and planning on unlocking my phone and taking it to Spain for a vacation.
In Spain the GSM band they use is 900/1800. I know my phone is compatible with GSM 850/900/1800/1900 and HSDPA 900/1900/2100. Will my phone search for those bands and switch automatically when I put in a SIM card from Spain? Or is there something that I need to configure within the phone?
Thanks!

[Q] Variant compatibility?

So I am on the Bell Network in Canada and my question really boils down to how many bands does a phone need to connect to a network. I can buy the unlocked EU variant and it has LTE 800/1800/2600 while bell uses 1700/2100/2600. Since both have 2600MHz can I get LTE conectivity on Bell from the international Variant?
When a network operator says it supports band
800/1800/2600
it only means they have cell towers that can emit those frequency bands. Depending on the network operator infrastructure. If you only have 2600 band supported it could either mean you'll get LTE coverage anywhere or it could also mean only a number of cell towers can support it which would mean you'll get LTE on some areas and other areas won't.

Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900F:
LTE: 800, 850, 900, 1800, 2100, 2600
I guess it depends on which country you're in to determine what band applies. Those are the associated frequencies though.

The international Samsung phones have yet to support america's LTE bands. I was really hoping that the Octa version would finally have worldwide LTE, but it turns out neither of the international S5 versions support LTE 4 or 17 (used on AT&T/TMo)
More than likely AT&T's way of forcing people to buy their version instead. This way people can't root, flash roms, or tether w/o a plan.
US variants and the I model ( Aussie model ) are the only ones that are LTE supported and are now pretty much all bootloader locked. Also all international models all come factory/carrier/bootloader unlocked too. Ive just moved here not long ago and dont really care for LTE so got my last 2 phones outside the country. I didnt realize about the bootloader lock until I got my S5 from ATT so Im hoping someone comes up with a method to unlock it.

Octa Version (G900H) doesn't have 4G LTE, only 3G. I have one of that here in Brazil.
canadian version
Looks like the Canadian version SM-G900W8 supports 8 LTE bands - which is all exept for the 800mhz (very common in Europe).
just google SM-G900WZKABMC-techspecs (cant post links)
Does your phone have to support every band a carrier uses for lte for you to be able to use lte on that network?
My s5 supports 5 of the 7 lte bands that att uses. Will I not be able to use lte at all with my phone?

AT&T operates LTE in band 2 (1900), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 17(700).
The T-Mobile bootloader is NOT locked and supports all the bands of AT&T and more. Plus, 900F roms work well on it if you keep the TMO modem.
So is it just a matter of changing the modems to get lte working on AT&T and T-Mobile with the 900F?
I just put a straight talk SIM (AT&T network) in my phone and I am reporting lte on my phone and getting download speeds of 15mbps +.

No. I don't think that the 900F has all the AT&T and TMO bands so it would be hit and miss at best.
And you want the modem designed for the device because it will utilize whatever bands that device is capable of using.
If you are close to a cell tower, 4g can do 15. I'm close to a cell tower here at work and my LTE can get 58 down.

Does that mean you can just stick an AT&T sim card into a T-Mobile S5 and have all the same capabilities as the AT&T S5, and more (like an unlocked bootloader)?

Almost. When you receive the G900T it will be locked to the T-Mobile network (unless you specifically buy one that is unlocked) so you do have to get it SIM Unlocked first. This allows you to use it on any GSM network. I paid 20 bucks online because no one has figured out how to unlock it for free yet.
After that I installed Omega rom but kept the latest TMO modem. It works perfectly. I got 58 down on LTE at work the other day.
Any idea how to get it to connect to the 4G/LTE network with SM-G900F
Band 3

X1103 LTE Bands

In NZ, Vodafone support LTE Band 3 (1800) Does the X1103 support the same LTE band?
Or hack it to support it, if not?

Is there a way to unlock more LTE bands ????

I need to be able to use this phone and i need it to work with :TDD/2600 MHz/band 38.
I hope there is a way. No need to trow a good phone just for that.
Hello fotbal5,
I9305 supports Quad-Band (GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz). No way to unlock more LTE bands.
Hmmm you're mixing bands. The ones you say are for GSM (2G). For LTE (4G) the I9305 supports 800/1800/2600 but 2600 band 7 not 38 as OP asked
