Pull contacts or set USB extern - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo Q&A, Help & Troublesh

Hello all,
My XT1254's screen and touch got broken.
Ineed a contact from my phone and therefor I either need my LOCAL contacts.pim or whatsapp backup (also saved local). The phone will be repaired by next week shortest.
The phone is rooted, and I have been working with ADB. ADB though, keeps unauthorizing my phone and therefor I am in no ability to do anything. The phone's USB-debugger is ON.
To access my whatsapp back-up I need to enter my internal device, BUT sicne the phone gives three possible options every time I plug in: I am not able to switch to USB-mount.
My teamWin recovery is touch based, so no mount possible here either unfortunatly..
Please help me, I have a date with the certain contact on saturday and I have not been able to find her facebook or whatsoever.
All help highly appreciated.

Just going to ask this as you didn't specifically say no -- but you are sure you didn't have this contact listed in the contacts app so that it automatically backed to Google Contacts? In which case you just go into Gmail on any web browser and there are all your contacts. Just for this reason, I never use "local" only contacts, I use Gmail contacts so everything is synced no matter whether I use my phone or my computer.
But if the answer is no, and you only created it on the local category, sorry I can't help you. But I did help someone else who thought they had lost all their contacts one time, because they didn't know their contacts synced with Google (if you created it the right way).

The newest part of the contacts have not been synced, so the number of the date on saturday is not in there.

I think TWRP provides ADB access by default on boot, no authorization required. Have you tried booting recovery and then trying to do whatever you want to do via ADB?

contact backup

hello,
I have a problem, I installed an update and I do a wipe, but I have a backup nandroid, the problem is that the backup do not want to do and now I lost all my contact . is there a way to retrieve my contact list of saved nandroid.
MOD EDIT: REMOVED LINKS
if you have root install this app. it will backup all your stuff
since you have a nandroid backup, you should be just fine to retrieve the data. i highly recommend installing cyanogen's recovery image (link in my signature) and you can do the nandroid restore straight from recovery mode.

If you'd like to stay on XDA AS a member, i would highly suggest you STOP sharing pirated programs on this forum.
FINAL AND LAST WARNING!!!
Back to the question.. Is it really an issue? Within a few minutes of registering the device your contacts will load back in from GMail. If they don't, sounds like something is wrong.

Correct, all contact info should sync back from GMail. You can even export your GMail contacts to a file if you're super paranoid about losing them.

This is true, but since hes talking specifically about a nandroid restore, he may have customizations on his contacts (ringtones, etc) that he would otherwise have to manually reset. A nandroid restore would bring this back up to speed far faster than manually going through and setting everything.
Found out today it appears that if you sync your contacts with Google you cannot use them in Groups on the Galaxy S.
CS had backed up contacts from Hero to Google then when they came down into the Galaxy S they were all flagged as Google contacts and would not appear in the Groups add contact list.
Has anyone had any experience with this?
how to see the contacts on gmail sync?
when I put sim card in another phone, no contact ...

Open your contacts, click on Menu you should see "Display options". Click on it and expand your Google Email account and tehre should be a list of Group in your GMail Contact list. put the check mark on all of the sub group you have under GMail. Then all contact will show up.

[OBSOLETE] Contact icon folder location?

Does anyone know where android stores the contact icon pictures? Since I use mybackup pro to backup my contacts, I can no longer sync my G1 with Gmail so I wanted to update the contact icons manually in Gmail contacts. I know that even though you delete the picture that you originally used for the icon, the picture obviously still stays so there must be a folder that it stores them to, I just can't find it and a search turned up nothing.
Also, is it possible to pull these files to my PC from ADB and have Windows XP recognize the file type?
EDIT:
I never found where they were, but I found an old backup I made of my SD card so there were a lot of the pics I used to make contact icons so I just used those.

Actually I think it is stored with google because I got a replacement phone and all my contact pictures was still there even tho it was a different phone.
Hmm, that would be a problem but I still think the images have to be stored locally somewhere on the phone. When I use mybackup pro to restore my contacts, it includes my contact icons which means that the program is getting them from "somewhere" when I do the initial backup. That somewhere cannot be Google because I haven't synced with Google since the beginning of the year.
The only reason I said that was because of having a brand new phone without my sd card in it and nothing done to it. As soon as I logged into the brand new phone before leaving the t mobile store my contact pictures were there.

Hmmmm... try backing up your contacts with Backup for Root Users, then go to your sdcard, open the BackupRoot folder and look inside the folder for contacts and see if you can see your images in there... If you can, try searching for the same folder/filename within root.
Why not uninstall mybackup pro and sync with gmail? Or, is there another reason you're not choosing to sync?

The problem is that the images are on the non rooted phone. I was hoping that there was a folder I could gain access to from Linda or Astro file manager and pull them off that way. But I'm not sure if this is even possible.

I was one of the original users of mybackup pro (before everyone fully understood the syncing with gmail problem). There is an inherent glitch in mybackup pro that makes contacts syncing impossible once you perform the first restore of your backups. Now the problem is know and well documented, then it wasn't. I spent the better part of four hours today restoring my contacts from my rooted spare G1's SIM card in order to partial restore my gmail contacts because those contacts were untouched by the glitch in mybackup pro. Now everything is just the way I want it in gmail contacts with the exception of the contact icons so I was figuring that I could push them from the phone to gmail contacts with a PC as the go between. Then everything will be perfect and I will make sure NEVER to backup my contacts with mybackup pro!

Backing up/Restoring "joins" between contacts

I have all sorts of weird bugs right now (been using BakedGoods 1.1) with my nexus: phone freezes up sometimes when i'm trying to answer a phone call, phone freezes up when trying to reboot/power off, text labels are misaligned sometimes...
So I've decided to flash to the cyanogen's latest ROM... but after flashing without wiping - I get infinite error popups of "process com.android.launcher2 has stopped unexpectedly", I can barely even power off the phone...
When I wipe the phone and then flash - everything seems to be alright... so I guess that's the only option left.
I've installed MyBackup and Titanium Backup - and backed up everything on my phone, but the only thing I couldnt backup was hundreds of links between contacts stored on google and facebook contacts (it took me FOREVER to link those, since my google contacts are saved in Hebrew, while the facebook contact names are in English...)
I really don't want to link the contacts one by one all over again... So my question is: is it possible to backup/restore the links between contacts?
Thanks in advance!
My question has ended up being on the bottom of Page 3, without any reply :/
I cant update my nexus without solving this issue, and I'm stuck with a buggy phone right now that freezes every now and then...
Please help, if you can :'(
Thanks...
I had the same problem but only with my gmail contacts + sim contacts, so after the second lost of "joins" I decided to do it the proper way.
Contacts were synced with my gmail accoutn and then in the gmail web I used the contacts manager to fix all the accounts for once (at least until I get a lot of new contacts), now everything is oganized in my gmail contacts and my N1 just fetches them, if I add a new contact in the N1 it will also end up in the gmail account and to make it better I used an app to sync all my contact's pictures with those on FB.
Good luck!
neoranga: thank you for your reply
I have a whole different scenario with my phone...
My contacts are already saved on my google account, but since many of my contacts have a Facebook account, I like them synced, so I can see their profile when I view a contact, and their profile picture on the phone is always in sync with their FB profile picture.
Since my contacts are saved in Hebrew, and the FB account names are in english, the phone cant 'Auto-match' them together... So I had to manually link each and every contact with its correct FB profile...
It took me so long to link them all together ( I have hundreds of contacts) and I'd **hate** to do it again, without even knowing if it'll be the last time of doing it...
There must be a way to backup these links too bad it cant sync with the google account...
Anyone else have faced this problem and got an idea of how to solve it?

unable to save the contacts in HTC increadible s

Hi Every one
good evening...... This is my first time here and heard a lot about this forum and i have a problem with my HTC incredible S phone where the new contacts are getting saved however when try to retrieve the newly added contacts say after a week it is not there and i have lost a lot of very important number and i cannot find any logical solution with this issue and i recently updated the ios to ICS4 and previously it was gingerbread
please give me a solution to the problem or guide me to the site where the solution is available
thank you in advance
Well that's a weird problem... Try this: Recreate every single contact in one go and export them in a v-card file (that's the way, I backup my contacts - it's easy to backup and restore) after saving the file try a factory reset and import contacts after it. This could help u, but be sure that a factory reset will wipe out all your data on your phone (except SD-card).
It could also be something to do with your settings..
wen you create a a contact you could be saving it to your gmail account & your phone may be displaying the contacts on your phone.
and vice-verse. you could be saving to your phone & set display contacts to gmail account.
i do not think it is possible for you to just loose the contacts

i did check it and all the contacts face book g mail phone sim everything is getting displayed
well if it is synced to google, log in to your gmail account & goto 'contacts'
see if the missing contacts are there.. if they are then there could be some problem with the phone (highly unlikely)

Empty Duplicated Contacts Read Only?

Ok I've done some digging and can't seem to find anything with my exact problem.
Yes I have looked up duplicated read only contacts BUT everyone seems to have this issue with contacts synced from another app. Mine is no.
Got this baby this past Sunday (found out that I can upgrade 7 days early so of course I did it. Love the phone and think I will be okay without root. Got Helium backup to backup my data. Only thing left is for them to add a Restart in the power menu then I'll be fine with no Root. OH and they need to get Lolipop out ASAP)
But ever since then I've been having this issue. I've been having new contacts made, same name as a contact I have, but with not info (most of the time. Sometimes it has their number in it). Now here is where it gets weird.
They are Google contacts that it says are saved under my Gmail. I go to Gmail, No duplicated contacts there, I try to delete, says they are read only and can only hide, AND it seems like the contacts that are getting duplicated are contacts that I seem to call most often. I have all other apps and their contact sync turned off so I know it's not an issue with them, and since they are saved under Gmail and when I turn off the local Phone contacts they are still there so I know they are not local saved/SIM contacts.
If anyone has any suggestions let me know. I felt like I had this issue loooooong ago with another phone but pretty sure it was back when Facebook synced its contacts and I had to link them.
I'm a savvy guy and know my way around Android.
Thanks
Ok well i ended up getting it myself.
For people with this issue:
Turn off google contact sync. Then go to apps in settings and then look for the contact storage app. Force stoo the act and clean all data. Check contacts to make sure its empty. Then enable google contacts sync.

Contacts in Android are stored in a database, and as they come from multiple sources (synced from Google, Facebook, Whatsapp, LinkedIn and copied from SIM or stored as "local phone" contacts...) it's easy to have multiple instances of same contact with different info or even duplicates. Contacts app let you "join" multiple contacts from different sources so they will appear joined in your contacts list, but they will still be stored inidividually in the database.
Anyway, there are multiple apps that let you manage your contacts at a deeper database level. With MiniContacts https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brapeba.minicontacts you can see all raw contacts one by one showing its original account source (group). And you can delete all contacts from a source (i.e. those coming from LinkedIn, or Facebook) or choosing manually those you don't want. Notice that if you don't disable the syncronization with the source those deleted contacts will reappear again. So, first disable syncronization! If you want to delete the contacts permanently from everywhere instead of just from your Android database, go to the source (LinkedIn, Facebook...) and delete them there.
Hope it helps...

I could kiss you right now. I have been scouring the internet and downloading apps for hours trying to figure out how to fix "read only" and "can't be deleted" contacts on my second replacement dud Turbo 2. Duplicates galore, and they wouldn't go away. Thank you, thank you, thank you! No more Verizon Cloud - that really messed it up both times. Merry Christmas! :good:

The app Simpler Contacts can merge duplicate apps. I've used it on friends' phones to do that.
Of course, Simpler Contacts also would like you to keep using their app and even their backup service, and they have a Dialer app too. But you don't need all that. I just use Simpler Contacts once in a while to check for duplicate contacts.
But this solution above is good too.
I also used Simpler Contacts to export all contacts from a "local" account. Helped to friends do this when they switched from iPhone to Android and the carrier store exported all their iPhone apps to "local" phone account -- which is STUPID. All the contacts need to synced with Google.
