Hi guys,
My wife has an Australian Vodafone branded p9. Out of the box, it was blazing fast. However now it runs like an absolute dog, so much lag that it would make Samsung proud. It becomes completely unusable, taking 30 seconds to load Google maps or Facebook. Android auto is also horribly slow. After factory reset, it's great for a month or so, and then the same issue. I've tried clearing cache etc, and that doesn't help. It's a major pain to constantly have to factory reset. No nougat available currently unfortunately, still on marshmallow. Appreciate any help, thanks guys.
Makes no sense MM is much more perfomance/balance than nougat but I have never experienced such behaviour neither mm not nougat... Some app (Facebook or messenger) or some kind of memory corruption... Mmmm try to boot on safe mode to see... Try to install most heavy apps... Try again a factory reset but do not restore backup.. Install one by one and last call service if problem persists

You might have an app that is causing the problem. Look into that.
take screenshot to the page "memory used by apps" and share it here
"Vodafone branded"
That explain few things :]
But beside that if phone behave good after reset, its mean that its not a phone problem but apps that are used on phone. I would suggest configure properly apps and they access to phone functions and access to network. + running stock Huawei optimization app that is really good at handling trash files and removing not used apps from memory, there is handy small widget for that.

Thanks all. I've tried all of the above. I have been adding apps one by one, and can't replicate the issue..However once all apps are installed it's fine for a full week or two, so can't narrow it to a specific app. The whole phone crawls to a halt...I've tried removing Facebook and all memory hogs, but even scrolling in the launcher is painful. Seems to be something more fundamental than a rogue app from the app store..thanks

last suggestion that we can give you is trying different ROM version, maybe that specific one have some bugs related to managing memory.
I would start with stock EMUI 4.1.1 that for now is most stable for P9, then I would try latest nougat.
Long time ago I had similar problem with Galaxy s3, and it turn out that it was not only few smaller apps(sudoku game and OBD car diagnostic app) but also most bizarre bug i had on Android: SD card bug that was installing and removing it self all the time, because custom rom that I had didnt had notification of inserting SD card -_-

Hi all,
I've read hundred of stickies, Q&A's, FAQ's, nd whatever, but I haven't found a similar problem. I's appreciate any help or hint.
When I reboot, many desktop icons (direct links) disappear. Also the wallpaper (I use Ownskin). Widgets and other settings seem to remain unaffected.
This doesn't happen to all icons: e.g, in the 4th desktop screen I have 16 game icons. When I reboot, 8 or 10 of them have disappeared.
I wonder if this is related to having moved some apps to the SD, as if they have somehow lost track of their confg files (sorry if this sounds dumb, newbie Android user).
I am extremely happy with my SGS, but this problem is getting really annoying.
Here's my data
GT-I9000
Official carrier (Spanish Movistar) Froyo.BGJP3 update
Baseband I9000BGJP2
Rooted and lagfixed, carrier bloatware removed.
TIA for your time!
same problem here.. every program i install to sd the icon is gone after reboot.. seems to be some kinda timing thing where when it builds the desktop the sd is in the middle of scanning for media or something.. running stock jpy 2.2.1 with bln kernel.. anyone else..
Your explanation is probably correct. However, I am curious as to why you still need app to SD despite having 2 gb of app space.
that is normal with most apps 2 sd
if you refresh it again, they will show up
dont really need apps to sd with 2 gig you are right.. but apps such as angry birds.. automatically install to sd (ie over 16 meg)..
allgamer. how do you refresh your desktop.. scanning media is not the same.
and it is a pain to manually add icons after every boot.
is this the problem in all froyo.. really needs to be fixed.. there needs to be some kinda delay say 2 minutes after boot before removing icons.. even if it has to show some generic icon till the app is avial.

Yes, that was it! I moved all apps back to memory, and everything is working fine again. You are right, there is no need to put them into the SD, with such an amount of available space. Anyway, I still think this is a bug in Froyo. If it has the option to put apps to SD, it should work correctly.
Thanks!

hey mates, many times i see walkman stops playing, i think it is just getting killed for low memory? in that case is there any tweak i can apply to tell android i don't want walkman getting killed? i guess there's some tweak involving editing of build.prop?? :crying:
The build prop edit doesn't work. Get system tuner and set custom ram kill values or else get ram manager and select high multitasking.
Sent from my C5302 using Tapatalk 2
can't get it, bro? how to do it using sys tuner can u plz elaborate the process?
I can't think it will be low memory - the SP has plenty of RAM to run JB and some serious multi-tasking.
I imagine it's an incompatible app or some setting that has been changed.
From past experience I know that some custom kernels with a deep sleep profile can be very agressive (killing background processes) when the screen is off.

no bro, it kills walkman when screen is on, usually when i use chrome to do a lot of surfing. anyways i have installed supercharger script!! :victory: let's see if it solves the problem.
I have the issue of the Sound effects of the Walkman geting killed off if I do some serious facebooking or G+'ing on the phone. The Walkman app itself still works, however the sound effects app gets killed and there's no way to get it back except a reboot.
Killing and restarting Walkman doesn't help.

Well I've only had the SP for 6 days, so haven't really put it through it's paces. I think I read somewhere that the default out of memory app killer is set at 200mb which is probably too conservative. Even so for it to kill an in use process rather than a cached one does suggest a bug of some kind.
I came from a phone with 512MB ram - so far the SP is exceeding my expectations (especially when it comes to multi tasking). Of course facebook is a bloated app that doesn't seem especially well optimised for android, I try to avoid it - it's possible that apps that cache a lot of media might cause trouble?
i have installed supercharger script and it seems to resolve this error.
I know this is a bit of an old thread but I'm having a similar, and at times worse problem. I also think the default task killer has some bug or something because it kills the walkman app every now and then while I'm listening to music. I installed the Xposed framework and the App Settings module to set some apps to be 'Residents' and that has worked very well with some apps. The really big problem is that, there are times where the phone literally closes an app that I'm currently using while it's still visible, I've had Chrome close on me very often and sometimes the keyboard doesn't appear when I want to write something, which makes me believe that somehow the keyboard app/service was killed. I'm hoping that if CM or some other custom ROM gets released, it'll have better memory management, but for the time being, is there any way I can quarantine a Sony service or app to stop this from happening so often?
I am using the latest .245 firmware, rooted and with unlocked bootloader, and I've never installed any third-party task manager/killer. I'm pretty sure it's not that I'm running out of RAM because I usually have around 200MB free, sometimes a lot more.

I've had a similar issue with the Xperia T. Listening to music through Bluetooth, and browsing using the stock android browser (not chrome), the music used to stop and it would loose the stopping point and reopening walkman shows the music as if after its been refreshed. Posted on Sony forums, to which I was asked to repair the phone and didnt seem to slove it.
Only change that happened was I stopped using the two of them simultaneously for a longer period of time
Btw, this was on the original ICS fw, for Xperia T. Can't comment on it on JB as I havent put it through the same scenario.
But RAM used to be around 667MB when on ICS and ~800MB for JB on Xperia T

Well as someone else suggested I installed the supercharger script. So far it seems a LOT better, but I'll have to test it for a few days before I can be sure.
It's weird that Walkman has such a low task priority
You wouldn't care where I sent this message from.

Its not about which player you are using.
Its the OOM groupings that are a little f-ed up in SP. This happens with Pandora and Spotify for that matter too..
Well nevermind what I said, if anything something seems a little worse now, my launcher keeps randomly crashing and I'm getting a constant weird notification about a failed bugreport. Supercharger scripts says that everything is working 100% but I think somehow the phone is still managing to kill its services. It's driving me a little crazy and I'm not sure what to try, I'd reflash the stock ROM and start from scratch but it didn't work well before, that's why I started installing other apps...

Try that out. I have not got a single redraw even after opening Facebook, Chrome (2 tabs), Dolphin, Youtube
Currently working on a fix to help solve the background apps from being killed.
Let me know how everything works out for you in my thread

Ok I might give it a try but there's one specific thing that's driving me insane. I've already installed Xposed framework, V6 Supercharger and Crossbreeder. They all seem to be working correctly and some things work fine, but my keyboard keeps disappearing very very often. I don't know why, I click on a textbox to write something and as I start typing they keyboard just goes away and doesn't come back for a while, I don't even know why or if it has anything to do with RAM (which I doubt). I'm using the Kii Keyboard from the Play Store and I've bulletproofed it with the Supercharger scripts, and it does appear with an OOM priority of -17. I've tried reinstalling and also using the default Xperia keyboard, but it keeps happening.
Any input is appreciated, or if someone knows a way to maybe make a log or something to identify the culprit.
It gets killed. Happens seldom with my SwiftKey.

Nothing help. Bulletproof working before by all other Android Handys I have or had. Sorry man. Think we must wait for cm10 or maybe by jb 4.3 bulletproof work. I can cry beautiful big handy and no music together with chat and or other apps. By me helps sometimes before I open an app I bring Walkman in the foreground. Bad build Sony

If you visit the themes and apps section. You will find a modded services.jar which will stop your home launcher from being killed. Currently working on the team management. So expect a fix by next week. Cheers!

Having problems with my phone a good few months after I updated to L. After initial problems I wiped the cache after update and it made a great difference and behaved nicely.
But now it seems to have gotten very sluggish and a cache wipe makes only a very short term difference (maybe a few days to a week). It seems especially sluggish responding to Home button, with the icons for phone, SMS etc. sometimes taking up a good 10s, maybe even more, to appear.
I have 1.36GB storage free and c.283MB of RAM free currently.
Any ideas or any apps that can help diagnose?

It could be a RAM problem. If you have root try greenifying some apps, and perhaps deativate Google Now or always listening options. Try also other launcher, like Nova Launcher...

Try factory reset or reinstall stock but there is no reason to not install a custom rom which is much more better than stock

Some apps don't work with root. For example Banking apps. So there are at least 1 reason to not install a custom ROM.
Get rid of Xposed, Facebook and Facebook messenger. Use the mobile version of them.
See if there's too many apps running in background. You barelly have 1.5 GB of free space, so i assume you've plenty of apps installed. Also try to Uninstall Updates and Disable some of them under Settings > Application. You can reclaim some space and get rid of bloat.
ive already disabled battery authorization and autoclosing for any app but also after nougat update this phone keep closing apps that should stay in background and never close with other phones, what can i do to disable auto closing of apps? theres any way or with this phones its impossible?
also the manufacturer smart features like answer when you put the phone close to ear or silent ringtone when you put te phone upsidedown are auto close and you need to restart the phone or disable re enable them from settings
My P9 does that too. I'd be happy if it'd let me select apps to leave alone, like Orbot, I2P, Servers Ultimate, Limbo x86 emulator etc.
Apart from that, it's a great phone (bought it after my Galaxy S5 Amoled screen crapped out when cold, worked fine warmed up again! Looks like Huawei are going to be offering LCD screens on most of their phones.
Just found it after first attempt at posting reply, it's in: Phone Manager then Protected Apps, you can select them individually, or all together.
On an unrelated point, I read that that the backup utility even backs up app data, also their phone clone app migrates apps to a Huawei phone, even app data if the old one was a Huawei too. Have you tried any of that, does it work?
Mine too, how come nobody else noticed that. Would like to have a fix for that. 3Gb RAM should be more then enough, cmon..
The most annoying is that it closes music apps as soon as you shut the display but if you promptly switch it back on and put music playing and shut again it will stay.
Really weird. And It doesn't help if you put the app to stay in settings and put a lock on an app in running app drawer, it closes it anyways.
I don't have such problem in mine, everything works fine
I had the same problem and I have found out that custom launcher is causing app reload. I was using nova launcher and tried few others, and now I am back to Huawei stock launcher and it's good.
I had the problem that it is not closing the apps but whenever i come back to some app it starts's reloading the content from start.
Has anyone else experienced problems with google calendar? When I try to create a calendar event the app right away gets force closed. I really want to use this app and not Huawei's standard calendar. Unfortunately I've come across this problem with some other apps as well which is quite a worrying behavior of a phone. I'm running the latest software 8.1.0.107(C432) on my CLT-L29.
I never experienced anything like it when I had the pixel 2 xl. I also have a Samsung galaxy s9 plus where there are no issues at all. If this cant be solved then I'll get rid of the p20 pro since the minuses with force closing apps is a bigger problem than the advantage of a minimal better camera on the p20 pro.
I had this issue but I think it was because I uninstalled one of the calendar packages that are required for the app to function correctly.
Did you by any chance try removing any bloat / huawei apps from the phone?
The solution for me was to factory reset, once I had done that and redownloaded Google calendar it has been working a treat.
I use Google Calendar on C432 (.107) update and everything works fine for me, no any issues. As above, maybe you have switched off something? Or, firstly, try to delete the cache of Google Calendar or uninstall the application and install it again. On my P20 pro this application is not preinstallled.

Glad to hear that it's sorted. I'd be keen to try and understand why it happened in your case, I'm pretty sure my experience was due to uninstalling something that shouldn't have been.
I've got this issue right now - it was fine earlier today and this suddenly started happening mid afternoon. No new apps installed etc and nothing uninstalled either.
I really want to avoid a factory reset.
Don't suppose anyone has worked out the cause have they?
The app let's me create reminders, just not events. I can see events and drag them to change the time etc. Very odd.
Just to say it was a beta of Google Play Services causing my issue. All sorted now!
