Xperia X1 Camera :: Hazy pictures

hi all,
im not able to understand why all the pictures taken by my Xperia are hazy..... even in daylight. please see the attached images for sample. which are taken in different lighting conditions, in "Auto" settings.
Bright Outdoor:-
, Sunny:-
, Indoor :-
i tested almost every settings but all reproduces the same, where as Xperia is quite capable of taking quality pictures (http://www.flickr.com/groups/xperia/pool/)
Im using the stock ROM, with stock camera software.
i tried the instruction in the threads (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5087670#post5087670 & http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=577364) but not able to solve my problem.
The Quality of video is good & i don't have any problem with that.
I might be missing some setting in Still image. can some one guide me or share their settings to get bright & vivid images.

Well I'm not sure.
But once I experienced some effect of this kind and was surprised too.
Than I looked at the camera eye cover
and observed that this invisible cover is scrached.
And discovered that the camera eye cover has a little invisible
layer on. So I removed this by strong scraching with a cloth.
Once I removed this layer and made the cover clean again
I never experienced this problem again.
As for settings - I almost always use Sports mode
which gives crisp and sharp photos..
Touch zoom works great with far/close object effect.
Usually I have unfinished ∞ zoom
or automatic.

Thanks for your reply, but my problem is not related to shutter-speed or grainy thingy...
my problem is about the colors & brightness, i noticed the moment i click the image an additional amount of brightness has been added to the image before saving.
Please see this image to know my problem better.

I think you may have the problem described here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=493732
I had the same issue - disappeared on it's own after a week or two...
I still believe it's just a lens problem,
where camera sensor badly interprets visual input.
Remember it's a DIGITAL camera,
so all the light/picture information is digitally interpreted.
There's nothing optical about it...
photo quality is good of my xperia....may be brightness control (adjusted through keys around dpad, up down ) may be high or the camera is in multishot in shoot mode...just a guess...
Hazy pictures
I had the same problems, my lens was scratched from dust and other...
I polished it with a Display-Polish (you get it in a cellular accessory store, or search at amazon for displex) and the pictures are nice and clear again.
But take care: Don't use it on the Touch-Screen!!!
Just dirty from sweat and/or greasy hands. Just wipe it of. But depends on how long has it been there. You probably need few minutes to clean it. Mine was exactly the same
I have the same quality of pictures too...
ai think most of you guys don't get the situation... becuase i also experience the same issue..
when in viewfinder mode (when just about to take a picture. you know, the part where you are hunting and focusing on your subject), the picture quality is great. no smudges, the light balance is ok and the focus is just right.. but when you press the shutter button and it takes the picture, it like suddenly gets another hazy layer of over-exposed fog above your view finder preview.
as stated as well by the thread opener, the video quality is good.
if it is something to do with dirt and/or smudges on the camera's lens or lens cover, surely you would see the haze and the bad quality on all camera related stuff, including viewfinder mode and video. as another note, i have the HTC camera installed in my rom and it doesnt do the hazy, over-exposed picture on it..

Like I said - first try it, then write Mine had also great videos. Why? Well not hard to find out
And yeah, the lens seemed also OK to me.
Like I said - try to clean it first. Otherwise it's pointless to write here and complain, coz nothing else can fix it Had this on my Qtek 8310, 8500, W910.. Know what I am talking about
Mine takes great pics in automatic mode, I have not done anything in the settings. I am using R3 camera.

[Q] Camera Problem

Recently i purchased Galaxy Note & i really love it but i dont like its camera.
When i open my camera app picture look beautiful & very clear but when i shot the picture it becomes dull. I tried several other camera apps also same result.
I think its because of HD display picture looks beautiful before capturing it. After capture the picture it becomes dull. I am confused why so? its because of HD display or software problem or hardware problem??
Anyone facing this problem or am i alone??
Cam FW Version: OOEI08
Phone FW Version: OOEI08
Please reply me friends. if its hardware fault then i have to return it
i have problems in zooming...autofocus works very bad..
Without zooming i have good pics, expecially macro
Cam FW Version: OOEI08
I think in software problems, not hardware
Waiting for next Firm upgrade...and android 4...
You are not alone. I was about to post a thread with the exact same problem. I'm really disappointed at the moment as I'm uncovering more and more problems with the phone each day.
Software issue
I was having the same problem, go to settings, ISO, remove from auto to 800, the pics wouldn't become dull anymore... i hope...

All cameras with digital zoom will look very bad if zoomed in. It is because the image is enlarged using its pixels rather than the lens....so as you zoom in the pixels just get bigger. I t's just like when zooming in on a photo using pinch to zoom.. ..if you zoom right in you can see individual pixels and the image will look blurred.
This is not a fault, just one of the downsides of using digital zoom.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA App
It's not digital zoom, it's definitely the auto focus.
I have a batch of good pics from when I first started using the Note, so makes me believe the latest firmware update messed things up, especially since macro pics look fantastic.
---------- Post added at 03:28 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:57 PM ----------
Forgot to mention, I am experiencing the same problem as the original post. The pictures look perfect in the frame a micro-second before capturing, then the actual image turns out a bit fuzzy.

I had the same problem, but I think I have solved the problem now. When I took picture, it turned out to be very dull. I was playing around with my case today and all of a sudden, I found a clear film attached to the lens. After removed, the new picture taken became well again. You may want to see if you also has the film on the lens not removed.
I wish it was that simple.
Something in the image processing is softening the image before it's saved to the phone. If anyone has any suggestions please reply (though I've pretty much used up all the combinations).
Note, (ha!) the front facing camera takes nice crisp images, what I would also expect from the main camera.
Yes im facing same problem! I see a nice preview and when i take a pic it looks really bad ! It is disappointing really...It was not like that on the Galaxy SII.
A few things to try.Enable the anti shake function and try to keep the phone still when taking pictures. No phones take good pictures in low light situations,so when abundant light is not available switch to night mode. This will brighten the picture considerably.
Also I find the auto ISO tends towards the low setting even when light is poor so adjust the ISO manually. This might explain why some people find pictures a bit dark.
The image for me after taking an image is very dull. Like the recorded colours are reduced from what you see on the screen before capture. This is also true for video recording. I have attached a photo compairing the images of captured vs shown on the screen before capture. Hopefully someone can fix this. It must be a software issue because the hardward already shows great images before capture.
Check out my examples HERE

Which firmware version are you running?
hi. actually i got this problem on first time. i got this problem fix after i reset camera setting. try it yourself
I suggest you turn off the auto brightness and set the display brightness to Max and turm auto adjust screen power then try again.
I think you think the pictures are dull after they were taken because of the screen auto brightness .
I figure the camera app will increase your screen brightness for whatever brightness setting you are on and the gallery app. Wouldn't.
So you will see a duller image in gallery preview versus the camera app viewfinder , hence lead you a misconception of the picture look dull compare to the camera viewfinder.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA App
It actually has nothing to do with the screen, rather it's how the image is captured. The software is softening the image, so even downloaded images appear dull.
And it's only the rear camera. My front camera images are crisp both on the Note's screen and when uploaded elsewhere.

Your right, brightness was set at 0% but camera app always goes to full.
Silly me!
However, the problem is still there but not so obvious as in the images I posted. The colour is undersaturated compaired to viewfinder and its also blurred/ not as sharp. That is also when taking a photo using a perfectly still stand.
I'm noticing the same thing. The pictures are dull and not as sharp as what I see on the screen. this is a huge disappointment that I hope Samsung will fix soon.
i would like to know some fix about this too... hopefully there is a nice reasoning to image becoming dull...
faced kinda a similar prob on my HTC desire hd wherein the pics became yellow however changing the AUTO WHITE balance helped me.... However on my note it doesnt.

[Q] Full HD Camera issue ARHD 83.1

Hello everyone.
Today i noticed a strange thing with the camera. When i record a video in Full HD there's a problem with the colors. It is like the color was detached from the object, i have a screenshot from a video of a circular object with many colorful circles on it and all of them are in the shades of grey and the colors are moved to the right so one half of the circles are on the right edge of the image and another half reemerges on the left side. Really not easy to describe, sorry. It doesn't happen when i lower the resolution to 720p. I'm thinking about going back to Viper 7.0.2, but i'm wondering if there's a way to fix this.

I've found the solution in android development thread, use HDR instead of Auto in camera settings.
The issue has to do with the latest camera update for M7 model. The software doesn't seem to work nicely on M7, it affected all M7 including stock, non-root models. I tested both my M7 (rooted & custom kernel) with a completely stocked M7, they both showed weird colours on recorded videos.
So I uninstalled the update instead. Strangely after uninstalling it, Google Play no longer allow me to update it again.

Light Bleed ?

From what has been doing the rounds, it seems as if the issue is real, but so far nobody has proved that it exists, with side by side comparisons showing different wallpapers or by playing videos.
Passing up on this phone would be quite unfortunate as there really is no true alternative to the Nokia 6.1 Plus, with bootloader unlocked, of course.
It'd be great if anyone could show how exactly the bottom area looks, on loading up different kinds of contents :fingers-crossed:

There is not light bleed. The light bleed that seems like is the navbar gradient on android oreo. I am a moto one power user and I assure you. There is no light bleed even at max brightness!
Some youtubers
Some youtubers done lcd test and we can see screen bleeding issue. On a plain black or grey background screen bleeding issue can be seen.
please, Prove it.

I got my phone 2 days back and the first thing i noticed was brightness on the bottom part of the phone (bottom part of navbar) was more than rest of the area.
I tried with 3 apps "Quora" "Whatsapp" and "Curiosity".
When i launched Quora, Navbar gradient was observed and it looks like backlight bleeding.
But when i launch Whatsapp or Curiosity, the navbar gradient disappears even at max brightness.
So i think this is not backlight bleeding, but i can't verify this with other apps, or even while watching videos on full screen.
this is definitely confusing. we need more data.
Bleeding
Backlight bleeding only visible on some background Colors. Is there anyone on Xda that can prove it that it is or it is not bleeding

What is there to "prove" ?
Take it from users who use the device daily. And coming to the YouTube reviews, aren't the review devices pre production? How good is the hardware there? The navbar gradient is implemented in a weird way by motorola which makes it feel like the light bleed in most of the apps. But I can assure you that its not there. I have tested extensively and you need to physically see it to understand the difference. You cannot visualise it over photos on the internet.

No, what i meant was..... Moto does not give any UI option to user to disable Navbar gradient.
It's either system controlled or app controlled, i am not sure.
And like i said earlier, its not visible in all apps. so does not look like backlight bleeding.
Screen Bleeding Issue Solved.
For those who are wondering about the Screen Bleeding issue with the #MotorolaOnePower Let me clear out this for you, Yes, screen bleeding issue is present and it is ARTIFICIAL. (I don't know why but it is) And can easily be fixed via software updates.
How to disable it?
Install "Navbar Apps" from play store and make the navigation bar colour to solid white/black to overcome those ARTIFICIAL SCREEN BLEEDING issue or wait for the #Android9Pie Which probably will fix this issue.
Hope it helps.

The gradient is an overlay applied on the screen. It is similiar to the Night Light feature, when you capture screenshots with Night Light on, you don't see it in the screenshot.
Hope that helped clear confusions!

Note 9 yellow photos in low light.

Hey,
I'm rocking a tmobile 128gb blue note 9 and it takes takes some nice photos but I as I was playing around in my house after sunset(night) I took a photo of my couch. I have my ceiling light on, and low and behold there was a HUGE yellow tint to the photos. Not like a filter but more like the default white balance and tone were completely off. Used my moms iphone 7, and the photo was more natural in color from the same angle and lighting. Also swapped cameras and tried my note's front camera and the lighting was also normal. When I use the camera in natural light, the colors are fine and pictures beautiful.
https://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-note-4/457879-photos-yellow-help.html
Googled it and found similar issues, tho thats a note 4.... Any ideas how I could fix this? The photo still has a ton of detail..it just seems again the default white balance and tone is way way off resulting in an inaccurate color scheme. I can post photos tonight when the sun goes down if it helps clarify
Thanks for reading guys !
EDIT: uploaded the reference images from a later post to the main post. 1st image is the yellow hue one from the back, the front camera is the second image and you can see the image is..normal.
I'd be interested to see an example, are you sure the White balance isn't just incorrect?

Here are two photos using an apple as reference...notice the one w/ the back camera is much more yellow in hue than the front camera. I wish the back camera was similar in color to the front colors.
Found this article:
https://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-galaxy-note-9-camera-review-900461/
It seems the note 9 actually may be crappy at determing the right white balance/temp with poor light which leads me to think, if this is the case then why does the back struggle while the front is able to do it properly?
bump
I agree, lower lightphotos get pretty yellowish. Seems easily fixable with a patch. I hope it is.

Thank you for the reply.
I googled a review and it seems to be the case with low light, easily fixable with any photo editing software. You want 2500k for indoor photos, which is what I adjusted the white balance to and then wham, perfect.
The front camera doesnt have this issue, but the back does? What gives? It's obviously a software issue...
I was worried I had a defective unit, but it's safe to say it may just be samsung's software?
Yeah after reading your comment, I used Snapseed and TOOLS - White Balance - AW (auto) on my 3 previously posted photos. Before/after comparison:
EDIT: sorry Ⅰ messed up, some of them came as thumbnails and the newer ones as full size images. To compare it is better if you click-open them all on different tabs and switch between the tabs.

Yeah well, if my unit isnt defective and this is widespread perhaps maybe we can get a few more people to test it and submit it to samsung?

Fixed. Now that I fixed it btw, I guess Using Snapseed Auto White did not really give the best results. Only improved the lighting a little. I should try the 2500K thing properly..
BTW what app do you use? All apps I tried until now do not let me specify 2500K, but instead, have a + / - % adjustment slider.

I then edited my photo in snapseed, which then prompts snapseed to open its raw editor. You aren't given as much to work with as with a jpeg.. but you can adjust the basic settings such as temp, wb, etc.
Anyways, when you're in 'raw mode' in snapseed, it shows you the default temperature(i guess JPEG doesnt save that info?) and you can slide it down to whatever temperature and eyeball it to see what looks good. Every one of my photos taken indoors with a yellowlish light, if i simply edit it...it becomes normal.
Here's a chart actually for WB: https://www.shopmoment.com/momentist/how-to-shoot-manual-white-balance
Now the question is, why is it that indoors my front camera produces auto photos with perfect white balance but when I use my rear camera, it has a messed up white balance when taken in a room with yellowish lights? You obviously have the same issue, so I think we can rule out defects. I noticed the yellowlish tint/white balance being off in some example low light photos at night actually where theres yellow light present in some reviews of the camera on various websites. This seems like a system wide thing, and would be great if maybe some others could test it out so we could make some noise?
Nope ....

Nope what? If you're referring to off wb, it only appears to happen when the main light is yellow. Otherwise, the camera works fine. Went outside last night and took a photo, it's very good in low light. Inside with the lights on(mine are yellowish in hue)? Photos come out wrong.
In your case...seems to be no major yellow light source.
My photo, willhemmens photo with the skulls and the photo here( https://forums.androidcentral.com/s...21378-yellow-hue-photos-help.html#post6389992 ) with the yellow hue. For some reasons, photos under yellow light are producing off balance hues. Any other light? works perfectly....
Least my case, but maybe I have a defect? It's what im trying to figure out, but it seems like others are experiencing the same. Don't wanna go in for a warranty claim if I don't have too.
