Old Nook HD+ needs updating help please - Nook HD, HD+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I bought a couple of Nook HD+s and rooted them with CM one for me one for my Dad. I have long since replaced mine but my Dads was running CM 10.1.3, 10.2.1 was downloaded in update section. THis was installed and now google won't work, I mean gmail, google play etc. So with what's gone on with CM and that I haven't rooted anything for ages I could do with some advice.
I can root it again but with what and how?
What do people recommend?
Thanks

See https://forum.xda-developers.com/nook-hd/help/best-nook-hd-daily-driver-2017-t3539504 for some discussion on which version of CMs to consider, and https://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=434844356 for potentially relevant guides on how to upgrade to newer CM versions.

I hadn't spotted the first, someone in the same situation almost, the second link doesn't work but I'll find it.
Thanks

CM7 7.0.3 not for Nook?

i keep hearing that CM7 7.0.3 has been released but theirs no download when i go to the link to the nightlies. how come? source: http://pocketnow.com/android/cyanogenmod-703-stable-released
CM 7.0.3 is Android 2.3.3. The latest nightly is n63 which is Android 2.3.4. I'm not sure why a 7.0.3 Stable wasn't released for the Nook, but the latest nightly is based on a more advanced version of Android so you're probably not missing anything.
Hrmmm this is good to know

I'm pretty sure live wallpapers are not enabled in n63. This is an issue that others mentioned on the CM7 General Discussion thread in the Nook Development Forums. I think someone figured out how to add them back in manually. Check the aforementioned CM7 thread if you want to take a crack at it.
What's wrong with life wallpaper? It works fine in 7.0.2 stable.
As a side note, 7.0.3 is built on Android 2.3.3. The latest nightlies have been using Android 2.3.4, but might have the security hole in them as well. For the time being, if you're running a CM7 Nightly, rolling back to 7.0.3 Stable is advised.
UPDATE: 7.0.3 seems to have some problems with adding Google Accounts and trying to do almost anything in the Market, but ONLY if you're coming from an Android 2.3.4 Nightly.
According to Cyanogen: "The 7.0.3 update is *ONLY* for people using 7.0.2* stable builds. You'll hose your system if you install it on a nightly from the last week."

Good information in that first link.
Guess I will stay with my nightly!

Yup. I gave it a test drive to see how the nc took to them and immediately went back to plain bgs. I can respect people who like them, I just see it as a battery drain and they tend to be a bit laggy on some "pretty" ones.

There is something specifically done for releases that includes LWP. Why it's not done on every nightly I'm not sure.
Well i just took a visit to cyanogen's site and it looks like this is what they have to say about the 7.0.3 update:
"CyanogenMod 7.0.3 is now available for download. This update contains a bug fix for our update notification system, as well as an important security fix. It is recommended that all users running a version of CyanogenMod prior to 7.0.3 update to this release."
As it says it fixes an important security bug is it not safe to continue running 7.0.2?
The latest nightly (n64) has been posted on cyanogen's site.
Im currently running 7.0.2 and want to update to 7.0.3 but since there is no release of the latest stable update for the nook i'm wondering if i should flash the latest nightly?

I have ROM Manager and it says I'm up to date with 7.0.2. Wonder why it can't find .0.3?

Thats because there is no 7.0.3 release for the Nook as of now. The latest build is the nightly n64.
Looks like all other supported devices got the 7.0.3 update. I wonder if the security fix is only applicable to phones.

Nook not booting after 7.0.3 upgrade
Today May 9th at 1:00PM CT, I received a notification of the 7.0.3 update on the nook, I proceeded as usual but when the nook tried to reboot it got stuck on the blue "A N D R O I D _" screen. I'ts been there for more than 10 minutes now.
Any ideas on what to do next.
I checked the backup option before proceeding to the upgrade. Unfortunately I don't have here another SD to boot Clockworkrecovery and try to restore.
Thanks

I read that the first .3 was bad, and now there is a Signed .3 version up, is that the one you tried? If so, suggest you go back to nightly as there is a #67 now. I'm not sure why the dev's split off the two builds, 2.3.3 vs 2.3.4 but it was confusing for many, myself included. I'm wondering if the new .3 Signed is 2.3.3 or 2.3.4, how can you tell before installing???
I don't know if I used the signed or not, it was the one that ROM Manager prompted to install.
When I get home I will try to flash the backup made during the process. hope that take me back to where I was.

[Q] Question about custom rom firmware

Hi guys, im really new to this forum and all about these android stuffs. As this is my first post, im terribly sorry if i started a new thread. yesterday, i flashed my galaxy mini from stock gingerbread firmware to this custom rom forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2409566
it worked greatly, it says that my android version is 4.0.4 . But, when i installed apps that is supposed to work at ICS, it cant work. It can be installed, but when I tried to run it, it just said that unfortunately, the application had stopped working. im really confused. Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Which app was that? It's probably an app for armv7 only.
It is BBM. I go through the net to find the system requirements, but i found nothing

I see...... Anyway, as i upgraded from stock gingerbread, and after i flashed that rom, it had provided the play store. I want to know, did the Play Store recognize my phone as still a gingerbread or an ICS? or should I flash an ICS gapps package? will that help?

[Q] CM11 root?

I am new to this. The app I am looking for requires root to power off the touchpad. So how do I root the TP? I flashed CM11 last night.

How did you flash CM11 on the TouchPad if it isn't rooted I thought it had to be rooted to install anything

You are right. CM is already rooted.
By default flashing your device with a CM based ROM (or pretty much any ROM) has provided you with root access.

I am having issues with my Touchpad when it comes to video, it's either a black screen or a rapidly flashing one. One website mentioned that my tablet's not encoded to watch videos. I am running v. 10 and I'd like to know if there's another version out there that Flash Player is not a problem at all. I installed it with Reverend Kyle's YouTube video. I have another Touchpad that I will create the dual boot, but I want a more recent version.
Any developer's recommendations out there? I have epilepsy and the rapid flashing on videos is a big no-no for me. I surf a lot of websites that have videos embedded. YouTube is fine.
Thanks.

I use Boat browser with flash. Install the browser then DL flash from adobe's site and then enable it in Boat browsers settings.
It work's but can be finicky.
I hope this helps.
The reason I chose to type in this thread is because for whatever reason my tablet it's not rooted either. I downloaded too.I'm, TWRP and #ROOT. I tried to update to version 10.1 or 10.2 on goo, tried to follow the procedure to update and it does not work when I go to the app it says that my tablet has no root.
Any ideas as to why? I went to YouTube in watched a video on how to work these apps to no avail. Please let me know if I have to open another thread on this issue, in the meantime I will update the other tablet 2 version 10 if possible the usual old fashioned way.
Not sure if you have already but recommend posting your issues in a thread specific to the Tenderloin ROM Build you have installed and/or the recovery you are using to install (e.g. TeamWin for TWRP).
Remember you have to use the recovery designated for your specific ROM build.
If you haven't already best to review the following two threads, including video tutorials and links to various resources:

[Q] Wanting to Upgrade from CM10.2

I'm running a rooted Nook HD+ . I have CM 10.2-20131102-SNAPSHOT-M1 Ovation.
Everything is running perfectly fine and I love the battery life and getting rid of all the bloat from B&N. I do want to update the Nightlies and when new stable versions come out. My question was do I need an SD CARD to do this? Does the SD Card still need to be a bootable one?
I noticed that under about and CM Updates I can download an update. If I download and just let it install will that cause any errors? Or can I just put the rom and gapps on a sd card and flash them (( like I have done with the Galaxy S3 and other android devices)) on the Nook Hd+ since I'm already rooted?
Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
If you installed CWM or TWRP to internal memory you can update to CM10.2 without an SD. But there is an issue if you use the cmupdater to do it. The issue is where cmupdater puts the file versus where CWM/TWRP expects it to be. See the Dummies thread for an explanation. See the note at the bottom of the first post in that thread.

Im not sure if you know but there is a stable 10.2.1 that was released thst i am running now. It works great. I am on a hd im not sure if its available for hd+ yet.
I like this build and have had no issues. I updated threw the cm updater in settings. I did have issue with google play but flashed newer version then did a factory restore and runs with no issues. I woild recomend a restore after each update over earlier version.
If u are speaking of going from 10.2 to cm 11 well, thats a different matter

[Q] Slow playstore after installing SlimBean rom

Hello fellow S4A owners,
Today I installed the SlimBean rom from spegelius (thank you!) found here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2640732
Although it was the first time I flashed a rom on my phone, I followed every steps carefully and everything worked fine.
I only have an issue with the playstore : apps download on 3G is really really slow, like 10 kB/s.. while on wifi it seems normal.
I performed a few speed tests on 3G and I hit 1800kB/S on ookla's speedtest app, and everything else seems normal. only the playstore seems to be affected.
I did the "playstore update" when prompted (on wifi) but no change. (I don't really know what that did though..)
anyone has an idea ?
please keep in mind that I'm relatively new to this kind of stuff so don't get too angry if I'm asking the wrong questions please
Thank you
mazuno
ps: I'm not posting on the rom's thread since I am not allowed yet.

Hmm.. Don't think it's related to the custom ROms and gapps.
Can you check your baseband Version? Mine is currently at UBMK3 ... No problems so far with download speeds. You might also want to consider that mobile data isn't exactly as fast as Wifi which is tied to a DSL or broadband line.

Hi, my baseband version is I9295XXUBMK2 (what does that mean and what's the difference with yours beeing UBMK3 ?)
I had no problem either in wifi or data before installing the custom rom
AND except for google playstore my data speed is correct everywhere (youtube videos, webbrowsing, pron (lol jk) )
seems like it's related to google playstore but how?
Not too sure of the reason now...
Can you try using the generic gapps from goo.im/gapps ?
https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/1067233?hl=en
Currently I'm running spegelius' CM port together with the generic gapps with no problems at all...
if you have hangouts installed, pls logout of it then check if playstore is more responsive.

nope, it did not fix the issue.
If I install the generic gapps now, will it erase some of my settings I did? because now I spend a lot of time customizing my phone since I installed the new rom, and I dont want to do it all over again ^^

Not really too sure about what's the exact problem... if customizing your phone means that you have installed a lot of apps already, get Helium or Titanium Backup to backup all your apps. before reinstalling the generic gapps just in case.
I have already switched to using the CM 10.2 unofficial version by Spegelius and installed the generic gapps. Everything's fine so far.
