How to flash any MM from Blu Vivo XL stock 5.1 - Blu Vivo XL

My Blu Vivo XL has original stock 5.1, rooted. Since bought it has two OTA I believe, 2nd one is MM. However since rooted I cannot apply OTA, even used SP-flash to flash back to full stock recovery and unrooted stock ROM. I also got a 100MB update.zip from cache(should be 1st OTA from Blu) but neither TWRP nor stock ROM can flash that zip file.
Now there are a lot of 3rd party ROMs come out, all they need to be MM based ROM to flash. How can I flash my Blu Vivo XL to any MM? Is there MM image I can flash through SP-flash?
Thanks!

Try this
Upgrade to latest MM, then see:

Not sure why you cannot flash back to 5.1. If you already have Marshmallow, then follow the thread at:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/viv...allow-t3512157
The scatter file and recovery file (which is "Philz") at the download site then can be flashed with SP Flash Tool.
Many many thanks to lacobIonut-DW. Did I say many thanks?? Thank you lacobIonut-DW for this.

No I have stock 5.1 now, and searched long time but cannot find a way to manully upgrade to MM. Without MM I cannot flash any fun customer ROM in this forum.
As 1st post said, I cannot use OTA to MM even after restored to stock ROM 5.1+stock recovery. So any suggestions on how to manually/force to flash MM is welcome.
Thanks!

My error - I'm not sure why you cannot get MM update over wireless, not you did not have a stock 5.1 ROM. I've gone back-and-forth with 5.1 and 6.0: using Mediatek SP Flash Tool v5.1620.00 and this BLU Vivo XL ROM (Android 5.1) and TWRP 3.0 Recovery:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/vivo-xl/development/roms-t3312297/page2
and Wireless update from 5.1 to 6.0, then flashing (SP Flash Tool v5.1620.00) "Philz" recovery and then rooting MM (as noted earlier) by installing SuperSu.zip. Apparently TWRP can also be flashed to MM using ADB/Fastboot.
I now use only 5.1 because at least 2 of my apps do not fully function with 6.0.
Another option I found useful was Play Store and "DisableService" which gave me the oprtion to disable/enable wireless update in 5.1. I have it disabled.
There are also options to zip MM components (check this forum as well as Google for that, as well as Hovatek, Yahoo and Needrom for possibilities), but that is beyond my knowledge. xda-developers has so much to explore on refining BLU Vivo XL.:good:

Thanks. I finally got OTA worked and now I have stock MM and Philz Touch V2 on my Blu VIvo XL.
A few questions :
1, The recovery named Philz Touch, but it's not touch version. Did I flash incorrect one?
2, This flash doesn't have ROM backup/restore function?
3, Most important, I used this recovery to flash supersu zip file, tried 2.65, 2.79 and 2.79SR3, all of them reported: Installation aborted.
I've used same 2.79 and 2.79SR3 zips file flashed on many other phones without problem, so the zip files should be OK. What's wrong? which supersu zip you used ?

Too bad I used that MM tWRP flashed this ROM.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/vivo-xl/development/resurrection-remix-os-5-8-2-t3578863
Now it's in boot loop, even I press Vol+ & PWR tried to enter recovery, it doesn't work -- I cannot enter recovery now.
I still can flash through SP Flashtool but is there Blu Vivo XL SP flash-able stock image?

Downlaload TWRP 2.8.1.0
Please note: if you're having a problem with twrp 2.8.1.0 asking for password..

Original Thread for SuperSU : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053 Root Nexus 5 Lollipop 5.0.1
Hey!
Thanks a lot. Really helped solve my problem!
No problem
This doesn't belong in Development.
Actually i am not sure where should this be.. I'd request modders to please move it to the correct board!
Thanks man!

Since you've probably lost your custom recovery upgrading to 5.0.1, you can grab the TWRP images for Nexus 5 here: http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/hammerhead
I believe you need to use 2.8.1.0 since 2.8.2.0 either doesn't work or is causing problems for many users.

Isn't CF-Auto root adding files from the 5.0 release over the 5.0.1 ? Isn't it safer to wait for a 5.0.1 autoroot?

How did you update from a rooted (with CF-Auto Root) 5.0 to 5.0.1 you just received the OTA and installed it without any problems ?
I like to know because i am on 5.0 stock just rooted with CF_Auto root.
So no more need for CF-Auto?
Just flashing SuperSU zip with TWRP is enough?
I flashed a Custom Rom Using TWRP which doesn't have any root permission...

Guys, i installed the 5.0.1 update by fastboot flashing system, boot and radio. I lost my custom recovery tho (CWR). I now tried to install TWRP, but after flashing the recovery image, the recovery still hasnt changed. Could i just flash CRW or should i use TWRP for this version?

This. I flash with it here since 4.4.4 and it did everything just fine. Not only it is an app to automatically root, but it gives very good hints, and provides lots of others features like installing Apks, getting a adb prompt, and so much more. Greatest third party Android app I have tried. Highly recommended, didn't even had to wait they update it for 5.0.1, as soon I got the 5.0.1 OTA notification, Nexus Root Toolkit was already ready for it.

This is lollipop security, custom recover wouldn't stick, after each reboot it will replaced with stock one, of course there is a way to make it sticky just search the forum.

According to me you don't have to unroot and install stock recovery just to install ota update there is a way to install update for same kind of rom i.e. stock rom update on stock rom or Custom rom update on custom rom without losing any user data. (Note:- This method is worked for me to apply ota update. You can do it on your own risk but if you had any problem you can ask me anytime.
Following are steps :-
1) Download the latest ota update it should be located here (internal storage/data/com.letv.android.ota/files/otaUpdates) folder.
2) There should be a zip file just cut and paste it in root folder for easy process.
3) Now boot to TWRP recovery and flash zip file which is pasted in root folder.
4) Now format dalvik cache and if you want root, then root again because due to flashingnew rom root access and all other changes you have done in system will lost but all your data will be safe... (This method is usefull for same type of rom i.e. from stock rom to stock rom or custom rom to custom rom).
5) Just for your knowledge 5.8.0.19s update file is full rom file but if you want other versions such as 5.8.0.16s then use offline update packages which are full size i.e. around 1.7 gb.
Also you can flash root since twrp comes with inbuild root tools just locate it in twrp recovery in advanced/tools/root.
Also you can install stock rom just after flashing stock rom in place of any custom rom just wipe data and factory reset and then apply root and reboot normally.

It will let you flash official Update also will replace recovery, root, basebend, firmware everything.
So you will have a new, untouched mobile... and can receive and install future updates...

Fix soft-bricked(cannot enter any recovery, nor boot) Blu Vivo XL

From stock Blu vivo XL MM and tWRP2.87 for MM (https://forum.xda-developers.com/vivo-xl/development/cm13-0-2-3-18-19-twrp-t3530909), I flashed one Android N ROM in this forum, it gave me bootloop, and could not enter recovery. It took me a lot of flashing work to make it up and running now. I'd like to summary what I did.
1, Using SP Flash tool, tried all recoveries I found, none of them let me enter it by pressing VOL+ & PWR buttons. Recoveried I've tried:
tWRP for MM / Philz Touch V2 [Marshmallow] / stock 5.1 recovery / tWRP for 5.1
2, Found SP-Flashable Gionee ROM from here: https://firmwarefile.com/gionee-s-plus
Download old version i.e. _T6006.zip which is Android 5.1. Don't use latest MM ROM since that won't work for our procedure.
Use SP Flash tool to flash it
Now Blu Vivo XL can boot to Android with Gionee logo, but as expected, no SIM detected since Gionee has different modem file.
3, Use SP Flash tool to flash tWRP for 5.1
https://forum.xda-developers.com/vivo-xl/development/recovery-t3311601
Make sure you can boot into this tWRP by pressing Vol+&PWR buttons
4, Download Blu Vivo XL stock 5.1 tWRP backup from here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/x4lgfv27jtgirkh/Blu_VivoXL_backup-2016-03-05.zip?dl=0
I use this one instead of popular one in this forum because, this backup has MODEM backup data.
5, Use tWRP to restore Blu Vivo stock ROM. Now you can boot to it.
6, Use SP Flash tool to flash Blu Vivo XL stoch 5.1 recovery
7, Boot again, do OTA 3 times to get latest stock ROM (build version V08)
8, Use SP flash tool to flash tWRP2.87 for MM :
https://forum.xda-developers.com/vivo-xl/development/cm13-0-2-3-18-19-twrp-t3530909
9, Enter tWRP for MM, flash suspersu zip file
10. Now you have stock latest ROM rooted.

You should use 5.1 tWRP to restore from this. It has 2 zip folders, unzip them, use the one with more files. it has 11 files total.

Thanks! Your guide saved my phone from being a soft brick.
But this TWRP version seems very odd, it thinks my phone is a V2 Viper and this recovery is ugly and seems misbehaving. Is there maybe a newer version that will work with MM? (3.0.1 gave me a bootloop.)
So many thanks for all your effort with this post, you save my life and my aunt´s phone jajaja.

I believe this is the exact same firmware as the official one. It is just modified to work with TWRP. Nothing more, nothing less.

You will have to format data (i.e. factory reset) but the Internal Storage will be safe.
