I need help creating static buttons and moving rectangles. - Android Studio

I keep trying and failing to make what I want so I've come here in desperation. Basically I want 4 buttons aligned horizontally on the bottom of the screen (That I'll program later) with a rectangle with a small height that covers the screen horizontally that moves from top to bottom when you start the app. If anyone can help me code that I would greatly appreciate it because I ran out of ideas.

What do you have so far?

Strange black and white rectangles

All of the sudden tonight I started seeing white rectangles when I open a program and black rectangles when I close a program. When I open a program, first it will show a medium size hollow rectangle about half the size of the screen followed by a larger one about 2/3's the size of the screen and then the program opens. When I close a program it does it in reverse with black rectangles. Also, when I change todayscreen themes just after I pick a new theme I get a tiny rectangle in the upper left hand corner followed by a slightly larger one a little more towards the middle of the screen and then the wait cursor pops up. To me it seems like it's an animation, but I don't remember enabling anything like that and menu animations are disabled. I don't really care if it keeps doing that as long as it's not a sign of a problem of some kind. Anyone else seen anything like this? If it's something I accidentally enabled, how did I end up doing it so I can turn it off in the future if I decide to?
HKLM\System\GWE\Animate set this to 0
it now animates opening and closing windows
Thanks RPGO. I was just about to hard reset my phone since no one seemed to know what was going on and I wanted to make sure that it wasn't something that could potentially harm my phone sooner or later. I still don't quite know how it got activated.
Figured out how it got it got activated. It was part of Paul's tweak pack over at MoDaCo. I was just over there and happened to run across someone asking for an untweak for that tweak.

start menu goes white and scrolls

hey,
if anyone could help me, i'd really appreciate it.
the start menu on my tilt turns white now because it scrolls way too far down (list is much longer than screen res allows for and has arrows on top and bottom for scrolling). the recently used programs list that shows up in the start menu reiterates itself 4 times and shows up vertically and horizontally regardless of what orientation the screen is in.
i could really use some help, so let me know what you guys think/know the problem is.
thanks in advance!

How to adjust menu horizontal separator spacing???

Hello all,
Just wondering if anyone knows the registry key (or other) to adjust the vertical spacing of the separator (horizontal line) between items in a menu. My Rogers Touch Diamond came out of the box with terribly altered menu font sizes and various other items with the intention (I'm assuming) to make it more touch friendy. The problem is the menus were never designed to be this way, so it appeared very sloppy and out of place. I finally managed to find the various registry keys to bring font sizes and selection dots and check marks back to the normal size (as per my previous HTC Touch) with the exception of one thing: the spacing above and below the horizontal separator line.
The first attached image ("Old.jpg") shows how the menu previously looked on my Touch. The second image ("New.jpg") shows how my Diamond currently looks. You'll notice that everything is basically the same now, except for the space above and below the horizontal line.
I did some searching, and came across the "SepYMrg" key in HKLM\System\GWE\Menu. The MSDN site defines this key as "the margin of white space above the menu separator line", which sounds like what I am looking for (or at least half of it). The key did not exist in my registry but, after adding and adjusting it, the result was still not what I'm after; instead of adding more "white space" above and below the line, it seemed to make the line thicker. The third attached image ("Adj.jpg") shows the result.
Does anyone know how I can make the necessary adjustments to get my Diamond's menus looking like the old ones? Any help would be much appreciated, as always.
Regards,
Bump.
I'm sorry to keep bumping this thread, but I'm hoping eventually it may catch the eye of someone with the answer.
Anyone?

Trying to find pictures of my first gadget...way back in 1996 I think

I've been hunting and hunting to find out more information and I thought perhaps the geniuses at XDA might be able to help.
It was an electronic organizer wayy wayy back in 1996 or 1997. I'm thinking it was Sharp, but don't lock me on that. It had a color (tri-color) screen on the top flap, left side. The home screen featured a desk with a window towards the right hand side of the screen and you can scroll through the functions as they were different "icons" on the desk (calendar on the wall, etc). Bottom flap was a QWERTY keyboard. Top flap right side, I believe was a number pad. I think there was a directional pad on the bottom flap towards the middle back. Entire case/hardware was taupe. I'm finding a lot of the B&W versions, but none of the color one.
Any help?

An interesting undocumented feature

So I was in the browser tonight playing around with the ability to shift the cursor to any point by touching and holding the screen in any area that accepted text input.
When you do this you will notice a cursor appear above your figure which can be positioned. Cool right. My first thought was that if the cursor appeared above my finger how could I position on the last visible area of the screen. I dragged my finger down to the bottom of the screen and then onto the buttons and to my surprise the cursor continued to move. In fact it tracked perfectly no matter I i moved my fingers across the buttons.
In short the touch screen extends all the way to the bottom of the buttons!
It's cool that they don't separate the touch regions for this purpose... does it work in other parts of the OS too?
Hmmm I'm not sure
A easy way to see it to see this in action is to head into one note and click the text area. Press and hold and drag your finger down over the buttons whilst the purple cursor is on screen.
it is also active over the HTC logo at the top, I'd imagine the whole glass face is active
