Hey everyone, I've been looking to update my Galaxy S5 AT&T from PH1 to QA1 (I want the most recent release, before they fixed the GPS spoof loophole) but I have yet to find the update to go from PH1 to PH2, or even the Odin3 image for QA1. I've been reading this forum for days and haven't figured it out.
I'd like to not lose everything on my device, but at this point, I'll do whatever I need to.
Can anyone give me a hand?

Hello All, So I have a VZW Galaxy Tab which Ive rooted, unrooted, bricked and replaced over the last year or so. When I received my new one from VZW i decided I was going to leave it stock plus superuser, (for adfree, and other apps requiring root.) Anyway, so I heard about the gingerbread update, and I unrooted my tablet, and received the OTA update. But the superuser.apk file was still present and was bugging me, since i wasn't rooted anymore. i tried to root my device, in order to remove this app but was not able to. So I decided to flash the stock rom (froyo 2.2, JJ11) using heimdall which I've done before, to be able to root, remove the icon, unroot using z4root, then expecting to receive the update after i unrooted. Well, I am finding out that this won't work. When I used the "stock vzw files" found on the "How to restore your galaxy tab" it changed my real stock kernel to something called [email protected] #3. I receive the update, but when it goes to install, it abort about 1/3 of the way in. I've searched this forum and other forums for answers, but have hit a frustrating wall of dead download links, bandwith exceeded servers, missing files, outdated websites...its been a mess. I've tried 2-3 different download zips that have the rfs and lfs files, but they are all jj11 [email protected] #3, which is NOT the real VZW stock files. Can anyone point me in the right direction, or has access to the actual unrooted vzw galaxy tab files for heimdall?
Original firmware can be found in this thread. If file is unavailable, copy the file name and google it.
OK I'm a complete newbie here. I bought the 8" S2 International unlocked version from Amazon and will take it to AT&T to activate it tomorrow. It's on 5.0.2 and is not seeing any OTA updates. Does anyone know if there's a way to get 5.1.1 OTA? If not, does anyone know if Samsung has commented as to whether they'll release 5.1.1, or even Marshmallow, for this device or will I have to go to a custom ROM?
Also, is there an absolute beginners guide to this site? I've been reading through the threads and keep seeing terms like odin, twrp, and many others that I don't know what they mean and I'd like to figure out.
Thanks.

i just received the same device yesterday and so far, it's working just fine on at&t: including data full phone features (i wasn't aware that this version of the Tab S2 had a full fledged phone). i inserted my nano sim from my dual-sim note5 and the S2 configured everything automatically. also, i didn't see an OTA when i checked yesterday and there's nothing at sammobile.com which is where one can generally find firmware (stock ROM) for Samsung devices. any custom ROM right now will likely be 5.0.2.

Odin = Windows based application used to flash firmware to Samsung devices.
TWRP = a custom recovery that - once your phone is rooted (similar to admin privileges on windows pc) - allows one to flash a custom ROM or other components/features not on a stock device. you can also create backups/nandroids of your device so you can restore your device if something goes wrong (similar to resorting a windows system image to a new hard drive). always, always backup when trying things out. tutorials are here, but sometimes not easily located via search. :good:
Last time i ever rooted a galaxy phone it was a galaxy s3. I upgraded to a galaxy note 3 awhile after and there was no good root out there, so i decided to wait and its been about 2 years now. I see plenty of info and roots just searching but id rather be safe than sorry. So i have an Unlocked At&t Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (I use cricket as service provider), SAMSUNG-SM-N900A, 5.0 Lolipop, Kernel v 3.4.0-4335446, KNOX 2.3. Can anyone point me into the right direction to all the stuff i need to do this as not to mess up so i dont just go doing it myself and f-ing everything up because whatever i read is from along time ago and not current as id like or anything? Id rather not have to do any downgrading or anything else id rather just be able to download needed files, plug-in, run software, root device and abrakadabra if possible. Thanks everyone!

First of all, hi everyone owo/
Well, as the title says, my dad bought two unlocked S5's from Amazon and both of them come from AT&T and we use them here with Personal which is an Argentinian network carrier
Everything works fine, 4G works great, but one of the issues is this one
Since it passed 3 years when KitKat got the latest update (4.4.4, on the phone is 4.4.2 .-.) some apps do not want to upgrade at the Play Store since sometimes on Android when is not upgraded, some apps lose compatibility with the device (On this I doubt, I'm not 100% sure) and I want to ask to you guys if you can help me with steps to at least upgrade my mom's phone and mine (since my dad is getting a new one and gives me his S5) to Lollipop without rooting the device, because here on XDA I saw a post on how to do it but it requires root and I'm not going to do it just to be safe, so I was curious to see if there's a possibility of upgrading the system through Odin, which I do have a little bit of experience (I did have it with an older Sammy phone, not the newest ones) without losing the carrier unlock thing
If you guys can remember there was a code to let you know if the network was unlocked or not but sadly it does not work anymore so I don't have any idea if it is permanent or not other than switching the cards, so my question is, I will lose the unlock if I update the system through Odin??
Also I don't have a AT&T specific SIM card to do the upgrade (Which for me is BS having only the AT&T card to do system updates) and I saw some posts on XDA on how to update it but only I saw the root method to update fom KK to Lolli and I don't want to root it, I want to do it just normally through Odin saving me some time
I'm not against root, is fine but I always prefer a much safer way instead of tinkering with some important system stuff and also I'm new into this forum (And I visited XDA since 2012)
Have a good day

It is highly suggested that you root with towelroot and upgrade with flashfire. You can't root on Lollipop and you can't downgrade back to KK. May as well root now just in case you ever need it. Root doesn't modify system files on its own, the end-user does that.
Is there literally nothing for this? I've got the method to downgrade to 4.1.1 but that only yields root apparently. No custom roms or anything.
Is there anything available for this tablet or remarkable about being on 4.1.1 I've searched both on all boards here on Tab S2 and it seems useless.
Aside from that, is there any way to unlock the simcard slot?
I apologize for the questions but it's looking like the tab may as well stay on 6.0.1.
Thanks for comments and advice, and yes, I've searched up and down (T817T all boards, etc.)
You have got to search and read through a bit more.
I only got this tablet (a used one of course) only 2 days back, so others may be able to help you more.
For me I just rooted the tablet and installed some xposed modules. For my need with the tablet, I don't need anything else.
Unlocking simcard slot has to be done from tmobile. I am not aware of any hacks available in xda.
You can install twrp and root the device if you want. T810/T815 they uses the same chipset. The information I have gathered so far indicate that you can install aosp roms for those models, but you shall not get cellular connectivity. Any chance of having official Nougat on this tablet is very very slim. There are some aosp 7.0 roms, but they are in early developmental stage; things like fingerprint sensor won't work.
Anyone feel free to correct me if I am wrong on any of the things I mentioned.
I no longer have tmobile.
Could I flash the t810 firmware onto the t817 tab s2? This way I could get the updates straight from Samsung.
I was only able to get one ROM to work on mine. Ultimately, I gave up and just kept it stock.

I'm also frustrated with the T817T. I have been able to root it, flash TWRP, but I have never been able to flash a custom ROM. I have heard that the T815 ROMs should work, but I get an error in TWRP if I try to flash one.
I was reading something in the Note 10.1 2014 forum that you could flash the P605 (International) ROM to the P607T (T-Mobile) if you unzipped the ROM, removed the modem files, and rezipped it. I'm wondering if something like this would work for the T817T as well.
If anyone has any ideas how to do this, please respond here.
