Some problem with JDC Team AOSP ROM - Xiaomi Mi 5 Questions & Answers

Found that the kernel temperature control is very strict, leading me to play the game can not have a very good experience, change the temperature control switch after the problem remains the same, I feel the reason for the kernel, because I use RR when very smooth
Do you have such a problem?

What is the best custom rom for the Bionic?

Hi. I'm looking for a good ICS-leak based custom rom for the bionic. So far I have tried liquid blur, but it has panorama bugs. The other I tried was AOKP 7/25 but it has battery drain issues and data drops...along with that rotation bug.
Right now I'm looking for a rom that is AOSP based or blur based and looks like AOSP. In addition, I'm looking for something with no rotation bugs, working hdmi mirroring, no data drops, good battery, and working camera/videocamera/panorama.
Thanks.

Honestly with those criteria, you'd be best off going with the ICS leak and just rooting it and disabling the apps/features you don't use. You can always replace the stock launcher with Apex/Nova/GoLauncher or whatver you want.
Your not going to get ANY AOSP without the rotation bug, but is it really that big of a deal? I'll second Linuxgator's suggestion, run a stock leak , root it, and replace launcher.
I'm currently running Liquidsmooth 1.1(cm9 base) and have the rotation bug, but that's all I can attest to having to deal with. Battery life is OK, but I wouldn't Imagine getting "GREAT" battery life from the bionic without disabling 4g and running several tweaks without an extended battery.

Choppy, Laggy Animations with Custom Kernels

Has anyone else noticed or does anyone else gave a solution to the major decrease in smoothness and fluidity of Lollipop's animations and UI navigation when using any of the current custom kernels available?
I've mostly used Sensei and I LOVE everything it allows me to do; especially battery life enhancement gained from tweaking voltage and clock speed but... One of the primary things I noticed in Lollipop when I first unboxed my nexus was how gorgeous and pleasant and smooth my phone was to use! It was like Project Butter all over again but instead properly implemented! As soon as I flash a custom kernel however, this goes away and animations can sometimes briefly hang, they're choppy, and their speeds are inconsistent.
Might there be a specific settings or value I can change or adjust that could be affecting this? Perhaps it has to do with vertical sync. Maybe the kernel is disabling this for battery sake.
I'm going to look into this, but as I do, let this be the place for anyone to share, complain, agree, or resolve or expound upon this particular issue.

I'm running the latest Sensei and I've not even experienced any lags or stuttering, have you rebooted the phone and are you decrypted?

I don't know much about the specific custom kernels, but i always find the ones that don't use mpdecision or some sort of CPU boost aren't as quick and smooth in my experience

You may be right. I waa using Intelliplug on Sensei. I should try using Sensei again and keep mpdecision enabled. Thats probably what Lollipop's "smootheness API's" were built for.

reset up your phone, cpu speed and governor.scheduler. i always disable mpdecision, so i can run my cpu speed. if you dont disable mpdecision, then you can not set your cpu speed, as mpdecision will change it. no lagginess or choppiness here.

Opinions: best rom (522)

Hi everybody , i have tried several roms for this device (x522), my main concern is front camera never works. In your opinion what is the best rom nougat or mm that is kind stable and has camera working 100%. I will appreciate your answers.
use MIUI 9..
CarbonROM.
It is most stable ROM based on 7.1 and most fast
XPerience is worst in my opinion: while Carbon had always about 1.5 GB RAM free, XPerience had only about 500 mb, it also works pretty slow, at least in PPSSPP
miui 9 sagar + kernel illusion = the best rom
LineageOS 14.1
For me, LineageOS is the most stable. Except for the camera, all works fine!
MIUI + custom kernel
Everything works fine, but I don't like the notification panel and the fact that we cannot expand the notifications like in AOSP (lockscreen, heads up, notification panel).
LOS 14.1 is the rom i am using now but the camera crashes all the time, i can never use the front camera no matter what app i try
How is the camera? (Main and front)
In your experience, any bugs with CarbonROM?
Both good as you know xiaomi beautify option is awesome i loved the front camera..
None, honestly. Sometimes camera doesnt work, but that is issue with every 7.x ROMs, but Carbon's camera is most stable, espicially if you use Footej Camera.
After using CarbonROM for a while, I understood that I would never use anything based on 6.x and lower: 7.x is much better in my everyday routine: espicially quick reply.
And MIUI which is for some reason is most recommended ROM here is worst on 6.0 in my opinion: it is buggy, it makes my phone overheat and I cant stand that DPI
Stock 21S is the best honestly until the camera problem gets fixed on the Lineage roms. Great battery life on stock and the recent apps button / toggle screen isnt bad when you get used to it and replace the launcher.
Los 13 with new security Level by Mr. Lakku
If you don't want sleeping big cores and don't want to root your phone to avoid that (miui, all los14 roms seemingly),
don't want camera problems (I just use footej normaly and sometimes open camera dro pictures, no in app cameras, so don't know about that), don't want a kernel to set your selinux to permissive or have an outdated google security level (custom kernel or stock eui)
then my friends:
MR LAKKUS LOS 13 IS THE ONLY PLACE TO BE
Im having volte issues....not stable...also footej cam fails sometimes....but it does hav manual mode

Why I will stay in MIUI 10.3.5 Global Rom instead of custom roms [My experience]

Hi people, after testing a couple of custom roms in the search for better performance I have figured out that the official MIUI rom is the best in performance, stability and battery management. (With some tweaks)
First tested the crDroid rom posted here. It is beautiful, simple, lighweight, the first time I flashed it I made the mistake of enabling aditional protection with pattern, then everytime it booted started of asking for pattern before boot (taking more time), getting slow, it crashed once, reflashed, didn't activated the aditional protection and everything worked good, only the proximity sensor where not working, the performance in UI was great, but gaming it didn't.
Second I tested Bootleggers ROM posted here. It's beautiful too, even more, the splash screen after logo is amazing, in my experience it works better than crDroids, all features worked as intended, very fluid UI, face unlock didn't work as in crDroids, voice match did it, but in gaming it was the same, the performance where not as good as it is in MIUI.
Some things to take into account:
-I flashed both of them with Open Gapps Nano from here used ARM64, Android 9, nano, it
worked better than the pico included in both posts because with pico voice match was not working.
-In both roms flashed Evira Kenerl 1.9, maybe isn't compatible with crDroids rom and because of that the proximity sensor where
not working, in Bootleggers rom Evira Kernel 1.5 is included, so there doesn't should be any compatibility issue.
-The game that I tested in both was PUBG Mobile, any of them played it in full screen mode (the notch bar), in MIUI it is played in
full screen mode.
-I use MIUI Global 10.3.5 debloated with Saki/EU tool from here and Evira Kernel 1.9, no battery savers from Magisk
What I saw is that the battery performance is almost the same in any of them, the system performance is fluid in any of them, including MIUI, but games performance is better in MIUI, there are no bugs (for what I know), face unlock works great, the fingerprint recognition in MIUI is better, stock camera offers manual mode, Gcam port from BSG is the best one and works perfect in the roms that I tested, and the most important thing that I noted is that the RAM usage in the three roms is almost the same, in MIUI I get 2+ GB of free RAM as in the custom roms.
So, because all of this my conclusion is that for now is better to stay in MIUI, it has OTA updates, is stable, bug free, and performs really great, even better in games in my experience.
Thanks.

thanks for sharing your experience!
right now, I haven't root my phone yet. based on your experience, I think I won't root my phone (at least until there's the most stable & efficient rom or until the warranty period expires).
you said that you use evira kernel. so, is it worth it to root my phone just for this kernel?
(sorry for my bad english)

Well, if you unlock your bootloader the warranty will be void, if you decide to do it I recommend you to root your phone with this guide from HERE, with root you can use Adaway for blocking all ads in your mobile, in any way Magisk is required to flash Evira Kernel, and it worth the proccess, the battery will last longer and the performance can be improved; is up to you.
:good:
Yup bro if you need your phone for gaming then it's always a basic rule “Custom ROMS are not made for gaming”
Which means you better stick with the stock rom for the full gaming experience
But doesn't it bother you that you don't see notifications in your status bar and lockscreen?
This is the only reason that made me switch to custom roms..

I am on MIUI 10.4 by xiaomi.eu 9.5.16 Beta and I see every notification on my lockscreen, when I allow them to be seen in App settings. On status bar see like 3-4 icons, but you can add priority to the notification icons, so it's not problem at all. Why is everybody saying that you can't see notifications?
When I was on MIUI Global 10.3 (before unlock timer expired) I could also see all of my notifications.

you can use this recovery..
https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...overy-unofficial-twrp-touch-recovery-t3921637
But if you love your rn7's camera then don't use any of the custom or miui based custom roms... Camera performance is always better in the stock rom.
What I did was, after trying every other roms I've switched back to the stock china rom, flashed magisk and used titanium backup (paid v) app to debloat the rom of useless apps.
I've also tried the global rom but found the china roms camera performance to be superior.

Settings - Notification & status bar - App notifications - Your app - Notification categories - Your category - Importance - Set on HIGH from Default/Low/Minimal
This also (from my experience) sorts the icons on the status bar, so apps with higher "importance" are shown in the situation, in which you have too many notification icons.
My impressions
Hello everyone
I Just bought a Redimi Note 7 after a quite long time using Samsung S8.
There is a couple thing really bothering me like
The swipe up opening google search.
I can't sort the apps alphabetically (really sucks)
The camera seems to be a little too dark (like the default cfg needs a tweak)
Infinite screen seems to be in conflict with the swipe up google search thing.
I got a couple of photos to compare the stock camera from the S8 and the Redmi
But the forum anti span wont let me

Hi, it works pefect at 1.9 version, for better battery I use alucardsched for CPU governors and zen for I/O scheduler, you should disable fsync in miscellaneous, I did it and no problem at all, it improves a lot the performance for wiriting/reading process in ROM.

Can you show me some screenshots of notifications like Facebook or Whatsapp on your status bar?
Just a quick tip and a call for help lol
If you face issues using Android auto + Waze and Xiaomi devices .
Set the power saving settings to no restrictions o both Android auto and Waze.
Go to app management and select the app to do It.
The problem I'm having now is .
When I receive an audio on WhatsApp I click play it starts playing on the speaker but it do not transfer to the ear speaker when I bring it close to my face .
Anyone knows how to fix it ?

Thanks. I don't have it, I just got MIUI 10.3.3.0 EU. This importance thing must be a MIUI 10.4 feature.

I am not liable if your phone explodes, stops functioning, or turns into scrap metal. I am not obligated to publish and update this kernel. However, if you provide an accurate description of your issue accompanied with logs, it is likely that I will at least look into your issue. By flashing this kernel, you acknowledge the potential risks it brings.
Introduction
Proton Kernel strives to provide the perfect balance of performance and battery life in order to create the best possible experience for your phone. Features are welcome within reason.
Compatibility & Installation
The stock Pie ROM as well as all custom ROMs (Pie and 10, including GSIs) are supported. Wiping cache is unnecessary. Magisk is retained, so there is no need to reflash it afterwards. The kernel may be flashed from TWRP or your app of choice.
Features
List on GitHub Gist
The 72 Hz refresh rate is optional and is not recommended if you are concerned about your display's longevity. Some units may also show artifacts on the higher refresh rate. Staying on 60 Hz is thus recommended, but if you are willing to take the risk, you can add "72hz" or "72fps" anywhere in the ZIP file name to activate 72 Hz. The flasher output will update accordingly to confirm the change. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED BY THE HIGHER REFRESH RATE. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
Downloads
Downloads and changelogs can be found here on GitHub. The topmost release is the latest. Alternatively, you can simply download the latest version here.
Make sure you download the flashable package, NOT source code! Source code is for developers and cannot be flashed.

Bit of a noob here when it comes to custom kernels. The risks you mentioned at the beginning of your post, what do they entail? I like to improve the performance of my phone, but for as long as I'm flashing custom ROMs I haven't touched the kernel at all. Unless the developer of said ROM recommends using a certain kernel and guides me through it.

The typical risks: warranty void, possible bricks, etc. ROMs come with the same risks too. Realistically you should never encounter any issues that can't be easily fixed, the disclaimer is just there so people can't hold me liable if something happens to go very wrong.

I see, thank you for the explanation!
Thanks for developing for this phone! Are artifacts caused by the 75Hz refresh rate problematic in the long-term with respect to the display's durability/performance? Or are they just visual glitches that are benign?

There shouldn't be any long-term issues, but for the paranoid, there's always a 60 Hz option available if you don't want to take any risks whatsoever.
This is amazing! I'm curious, does the display panel only allow you to refresh it so far only to 75 Hz? Or could it be pushed more without negative side effects?
I am getting an error when I attempt to flash the kernel, with error code 1. No clue what could be causing the problem

Same error here...
Proton Kernel v1.1 has been released. Download
Changelog:
? ? ? ? • Added automatic boot-time display reset for 75 Hz (removes need to toggle it manually after boot)
? ? ? ? • Fixed installation when coming from other kernels
? ? ? ? • Re-enabled per-app CPU frequency time-in-state stats for more accurate battery stats
? ? ? ? • Enabled traditional CPU frequency usage stats (thanks to a CAF commit to make it work with fast frequency switching)
? ? ? ? • Re-calculated internal display interface timings for 75 Hz (should reduce artifacts on lower-quality units)

80 Hz causes significant visual glitches that render the device unusable. Values between 75 and 80 Hz aren't worth testing in my opinion since they're not standard refresh rates and won't bring any perceptible benefits.

There was an issue with v1.0's flasher which caused this error to appear when coming from another kernel. It's fixed in v1.1.
Can someone guide me how to install this kernal
Seems to be working nicely but I've noticed a slight detail of the kernel version missing in the settings and that the backlight always remains on extremely dimly after turning the smartphone off. You can notice it if you go into a pitch black room with the display off.
hows the Battery life affected?

Ah, so that's why 75 Hz is the sweet spot. Thanks for informing us on the matter, as this only makes me even more excited to purchase this device.

Also found that the screen often lags and artifacts while on max brightness especially while watching back recorded videos on the phone. Running the latest lineage and this kernel.

Looks like these issues are specific to the stock ROM. I've just installed the stock ROM to test, so they should be fixed very soon in v1.2.

Battery life is more or less identical to the stock kernel from my experience.

That means you need to use 60 Hz. The 60 Hz mode is currently broken, but v1.2 (coming very soon) will have it working.
Proton Kernel v1.2 has been released. Download
Changelog:
? ? ? ? • Fixed display sometimes not turning off, staying at a very low brightness, and inhibiting deep sleep
? ? ? ? • Fixed filename detection for 60 Hz mode
