can this note 5 brick be resurrected? - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I followed (obsolete) online instructions to root/rom my note 5 using Odin. The rom was bad. Now device will only open to downloading screen. I think there is no operating system at all.
I wonder if I find/download current stock marshmallow 6.xx and set it in Odin, will it flash my note 5 back to stock?
Odin shows an added comm when I attach it.
Where can I download a just plain current stock rom for recovery?

You should be able to download a new stock FW through Odin and restore the phone.
Latest stock FW for your phone can we downloaded on the following site:
sammobile.com.

What service provider do you have? Because I wouldn't bother downloading from sammobile because they're slow as hell and can take up to 8 hours or more to download firmware.

Thanks for Dato. It looks like a complete listing with speed and no delay.
But, if you use it regularly can you tell me how to get by the mandatory ad? I don't mind watching an ad, like TV, it pays the bills. But after I explore the ad or download something I don't really need but have a passing interest in, I can never get back to the site for download.
What important bit of information am I missing?

I just finished trying to flash the download from sammoble on my note 5.
it is a fail.
1. I turn the phone off and restart it in the downloading mode.
2. Start Odin and verify comm shows a connection.
3. Locate the downloaded ROM
4. in Odin, select the AP box
5. navigate to the downloaded rom
6. wait for the checksum to finish.
7. When the rom file populates the AP box,
8. Select Start.
9. in about 15 seconds, FAIL.
10 phone reads in red
SW REV DEVICE FAIL 3 BINARY:1
Do you see where I might have gotten off track?

You're either trying to flash an older version of firmware that's no longer permitted or you're using an entirely incorrect firmware.

Flash a downgrade ROM or GB rescue kit from My Android solutions, link below using Odin
Signup at http://samfirmware.com/, type "i9000" in the search field, choose the newest ROM released for you country/carrier, download it, flash it...
if u get the files, click here and download Odin v1.85 !
*Make sure Kies is not opened (Task manager > close anything named "Kies") / Battery is more than 80% / don't disconnect until the process is finished !
Open Odin, place the files like this: PDA (choose Code...) / PHONE (Modem...) / CSC (Phone...) and if there's a .PIT file you will see it (it's something like 512.pit). Then get the phone in Download Mode: Vol. Down + Home + Power, connect to pc and wait until appears in Odin. If nothing appears, you will need the Drivers. If appears, make sure repartition is unticked, and others two are ticked. Press START and don't disconnect until the phone restarts.
Done.
P.S.: That worked for me

Depends on which ROM did you put onto the device. I recall if you're trying to go back from CM9 you're going to have to do the 3 files combo via ODIN.

[Q] Unroot Samsung Galaxy S i9000

My phone is currently running Android version 4.2.2 (S4 Style) Custom Rom (had Xbean before) but it is very very slow/laggy etc (had this problem with xbean and even cyanongen mod before). How can I install back the Default Official Samsung software?
Thanks
1.) Download a stock rom from http://www.sammobile.com and make sure its for your device (ie. Don't download an I9000 firmware if you have an I9001). You'll get a zip file. Unzip it, and there should be a .tar file inside.
2.) Download dbsdata.rfs.tar (currently can't find a link). Also download Odin
3.) Put the phone into download mode- vol down, home and power
4.) Connect the phone to the PC by USB cable
5.) When Odin has registered the phone (a yellow box saying ID:COM4 or something similar), select PDA and select the stock rom .tar file. Don't touch anything else and let it flash.
6.) Once its finished, it'll boot into recovery. Just pull the battery and put the phone into download mode again.
7.) Connect it to the PC again, and under Odin select PDA and this time select dbsdata.rfs.tar. Again, don't touch anything else and let it flash through.
Done!

Visit My Android Collections link below, and you can use any rescue kit or upgrade kit and you will be on default Samsung firmware...that's it, does not need dbdata.rfs flashing...Best to copy your Internal SD card ( by mounting and copying everything in it, such tht you can use your saved content later and Format entire SD card First.

Man THIS GUIDE IS THE BEST AND ONLY ONE WAY! THANK YOU VERY MUCH I HOPE EVERYONE FOLLOW YOUR GUIDE.

[ROM][ODIN]SPH-L720 MF9 (MF9 Modem/Kernel/Bootloader/ROM - No Data Wipe - Rooted)

First, a HUGE thanks goes @garwynn for being my partner through all of this and then to @sfhub for teaching me how to create Odin One-Click.exe files and creating the original thread I'm using as a template for this one, @agat63 for helping me get the hang of what sfhub started teaching me, @MoHoGalore for helping test and put together so many of these one-clicks, @crawrj for providing the TAR I used to compile the one-click, and to everyone else in our community who makes this possible!
This Odin One-Click.exe contains a Rooted Stock MF9 ROM, Bootloader, Kernel and Modem for the Sprint Samsung Galaxy S4 (SPH-L720).
The only changes to the ROM from the initial build released by Samsung are that root access has been added along with SuperSU and BusyBox.
This will NOT trigger the Yellow Triangle NOR will it increment the Odin flash count.
This one-click resets your whole phone to a rooted stock MF9 experience and it does not wipe user data.
Instructions:
1: Backup anything important and Disable any PINs.
During this process your phone's software will be returned to the Stock setup. All system data will be lost. To be safe, it is best to archive your backup off your phone, ie on your PC or Dropbox.
2: Install Samsung USB/Android drivers (if necessary).
Samsung Drivers Download Link
3: Download the MF9 Stock ROM One-Click.
SPH-L720_MF9_Rooted_NoData_Restore(compressed archive).exe
4: Unzip One-Click ROM using 7zip (this package is a self-extracting exe you should just be able to double-click on it after download and it will do the rest).
5: Start the Odin One-Click.
Navigate to the location where the SPH-L720_MF9_Rooted_NoData_Restore.exe was saved upon extract from the 7Zip archive.
Double-click on SPH-L720_MF9_Rooted_NoData_Restore.exe. *On Vista or newer, you may need to right-click on the file and Run as Administrator.
6: Place phone in Download Mode.
- Power phone completely off.
- Press and hold Volume Down, Home and Power buttons, all at the same time.
- Release the buttons only when the ‘Warning!!’ message appears.
- Press [Volume Up] to enter Download mode.
7: Connect USB cable to PC and phone.
Odin should show a yellow COM port in the second column. If you do not see a yellow COM port, you may need to run the Odin One-Click as Administrator and/or unplug/plugin the USB cable after starting Odin One-Click.
8: Start Odin flash process.
Press [Start].
9: Complete - PASS!
Status should change to green PASS! At this point your phone should automatically reboot.
Android Instructions:
Download and install ZArchiver on your phone. Use it to unpack the Odin One-Click 7zip self-extracting exe file (long press on the 7zip exe. Select "Open As Archive". Select the One-Click.exe and then select Extract). Use Mobile Odin to Open File the SPH-L720_MF9_Rooted_NoData_Restore.exe. FYI - Modem will not flash with Mobile Odin.
The boot process will take slightly longer than usual during which time you'll see the Sprint 4G logo screen.
Congratulations! You've flashed the Rooted No Data Factory Restore MF9 build!

I should be able to work something out.
Gotta find the time to do it though. This one was easy as Crawrj did the work of building the TAR already. I'll have to either build the TAR or find one that has the data wipe written in.

No rush! Having a data wipe rooted option makes it easy to do some "spring cleaning" and start fresh if a flashed ROM gives me trouble. Thanks again for both files! I'm a new owner of a GS4, and I'm learning all over again. Had a GS3 for a year and found that to be extremely easy to root/restore and flash. I hope the GS4 is the same!

Try flashing the full restore from the link below and then retry flashing the rooted no data restore. Could be some incompatible data in your previous build.

Thanks so much for this guys. I've been busy the last few weeks and didn't see this posted. I've really missed the one-clicks from the S2 days and I'm glad you could come up with these. I'm stuck in a hotel in NOLA with crappy internet and I'm trying to download both the unrooted restore file to wipe my phone, and then I'll run this on top of it.
For anyone who hasn't used these one-clicks before, I highly recommend them. So easy, especially if you want to totally wipe the phone and start from scratch like I do periodically.
Thanks again!

How to finish Rooting my phone via KingRoot

Hello this morning I tried to root my phone using the KingRoot app trough the purify app I downloaded yesterday. When my phone started to "root" it turned off. And when I try to turn it back on it doesn't power up. Instead I am met with a small red message at the top left of the screen that states "KERNAL IS NOT SEANDRIOD ENFORCING Custom binary blocked by FAP Lock" I went to a local phone repair shop and they tried to factory reset my phone and that didn't work. The employee stated that the root is already started and needs to be finished and referred me to this site to seek help. Please help I have no technological back round and just want my phone to work again.

(SOLVED)Soft Bricked 18200N

HI I have a Samsung galaxy s3 min GT-18200N (i think that is the value edition) I had rooted it and I tried to install TWRP with Odin. It said it went ok but when I try to boot it it gets stuck on the first screen (The words "Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini GT-18200N" written in white) It does not move on to the next samsung logo screen.
I can access download mode but not recovery mode. I tried using odin to flash firmware found on sammobile.com it said ok but it still wouldn't boot to anything but download mode.
Please can anyone find any way to un-softbrick my device. Thanks
Note: I can't get SDK tools to work on my PC
If someone could find a package that I could flash using odin that would be ideal.
Edit Thanks everyone anyway but i managed to fix it
Hey. How did you fix it?. Same Problem here with stock firmware.
I don't know what the problem was the first time. Maybe it was odin or perhaps the firmware was dodgy. I just went back onto sammobile.com and tried another firmware from sammobile and it un bricked it. Just try another one and avoid ones specified for carriers. [e.g don't use Germany(Vodafone)]
In case you don't know how to flash the firmware here is the process
1 download and unzip the firmware, it should be a .tar.md5 file
2 start odin
3 click AP (PDA on newer versions)
4 select your .tar.md5 file
5 it will say "checking md5" or something
6 after about 10 minutes it will say "leave cs"
7 now connect your phone(in download mode)
8 odin will say "added"
9 check re-partition is not checked in options tab
10 click start
11 after about 5 minutes it will finish and the phone will reboot.
Like I say I don't know what went wrong the first time after trying a different download it worked. Try the above again with a different download and see if it un bricks your phone. If not then say what went wrong and I'll try to find another solution
