As am I :good::good:
I've had a kernel tree and ramdisk sitting on the backburner since October until AW 2.0 came out, was actually planning on releasing it for 1.5 if we didn't get any update from LG by the end of the month. Of course, now it'll need to be rebased over the new kernel source. Will do a TWRP build w/ f2fs support as well unless someone beats me to it.
little note, if anyone's cp'ing, don't pick the 2 squashfs commits, they're incorrect, just haven't had the time to do that myself

It is really very hard to tell you what is better in AW1.5 because almost all new thing in AW20 is bad! Gonna try to summarize in few words:
AW20 is a big change in the concept: from the AW1.5, smartwatch is a extension of your smartphone. AW2.0 is almost a smartphone in you wrist. Bad functionality, bad performance and bad concept! (I already have a smartphone and I don´t want another one in my wrist!).

I just joined the smartwatch club and both of mine had AW2.0 .. so i'm not sure how it compares to AW1.5 but I do know I wish it did have more stand alone capability.. I would like to be able to see all my text messages and respond to certain ones and avoid taking my phone out of my pocket..
I do hope there will be more travel here on this forum.. doesn't seem like there is much activity anymore

If it's possible to get kitkat on our device with dalvik run time, please someone port it.
I hate lollipop. why? almost all the apps on the play store aren't optimized for ART/lollipop.
It's just pain to see my new nexus 6 stutters on apps that can run on my old 5S smoothly
No it is not possible. Someone can't just port Kit Kat because there are a lack of drivers and binaries for it.
Apps will just have to get to the times and update to make it more optimized for Lollipop, or get "better" or more frequently updated apps to follow with the times.

That is actually quite a silly statement.
It actually would NOT be all that much work to build 4.4 for this hardware.
For one, all of the blobs needed can be pulled from Droid_turbo / Moto_maxx. They are basically the same hardware, and ship with 4.4.
Second, qualcomm supports the apq8084 platform on 4.4 directly. I have a liquid 8084 tablet with 4.4 on my desk right next to me right now.
Having said that... I'm not going to build 4.4, because it is pointless.

What exactly do you mean by "aren't optimized"??? As a developer, I have to say that this statement is completely meaningless. There is nothing special that need be done from a software developer point of view to take account for ART, as long as you aren't doing weird and unsupported hacks (which very very very few people actually do).

What do you mean by "stutters"? Is there heavy I/O happening when it is "stuttering"? Do you realize the serious impact that forced encryption has on the device's I/O and CPU performance? Do you realize that the display on N6 has nearly TWICE as many pixels as your "old" S5? That means that it is GOING to take a lot more to keep things fluid on N6 than S5. Something that will be helped when software starts to take advantage of the newer OpenGL available on 5.0. NONE of this will be improved by downgrading to 4.4. In fact, because 4.4 will NOT be taking advantage of the newer OpenGL, doing this downgrade will make certain, even after software starts to make use of it, that you WON'T be able to benefit from it.

If it's not that much work then why you don't do it and prove me wrong? You'd need proprietary vendors, drivers for 4.4 and not to mention you'd need a backward port of dalvik.
Just because they share similar hardware doesn't mean you can just pull blobs from another phone with similar hardware specifications from the same manufacturer then hope that it works because development doesn't work that way
Even if it was possible no one would do it because its a step backwards and it would be a dirty hack.
i would have chimed in a while ago, but for certain reasons i didnt. normally, id say that it wont happen, since there arent any binaries for kitkat and the nexus 6. but guess what, there are! they arent anywhere where the public has access to them, but they do exist. as google had kitkat on the n6 before lollipop. and a very few people have even gotten their n6 with kitkat(when they just selling the n6). so, in the future, we might be able to see a kitkat build on our n6

That's hilarious. Especially since hardware wise, the only real difference between those phones I mentioned and Nexus 6 is the screen size. In fact, we know for a fact that those two devices very nearly WERE stamped "shamu" and sent out AS Nexus 6. Something happened between Google and Verizon that decided what size went under whose label. Also, you should see all the Sony blobs I used on my Samsung phone... also a bunch from LG.
But just to make things even more interesting, on what grounds do you claim that Android 4.4 won't run on blobs from 5.0? That same Samsung phone I referred to above running on Sony and LG blobs... is running 5.0 on such mishmash of blobs pulled out from 4.[0-4]. And perfectly happily at that. Blobs DO NOT HAVE an intrinsic "works with Android version X and nothing else" stamped on them.
Even if it was possible no one would do it because its a step backwards and it would be a dirty hack.

THAT is essentially what I am saying. Not the "even if" (because it *IS* possible), or the dirty hack part, because though it may make you FEEL dirty to downgrade, it wouldn't actually be a hack. I'm saying that nobody WILL do it, because it is pointless and backwards.

There is a port being worked on as I post this, yes there are people who want kit kat on the phone and there are other reasons than running cm, aosp or stock. Enough said and more will be revealed in the nexus 6 forums hopefully within the next week we will see how bad it really gets
fun..
to bad kitkat will not work on the n6 without drivers for kitkat. unless its a lollipop rom thats just themed like kitkat.

So, it's quite possible that our much beloved Nexus 5 doesn't receive final Android N, afterall.
In that case, I was wondering it anyone would be interested in providing a custom N build, with no changes, compared to Google's own build.
I mean, ODEX, non-zipaligned, no root, nothing. Just stock like stock Google software.
I'd pay for this.
Is it possible for someone to create a ZIP that can be sideloaded in the default recovery?

When the final release is out, it's pretty safe to say that someone will make a build for the Nexus 5. Until then, there is nothing devs can do right now. Google currently doesn't have everything available to do so.
Yes, I know.
I'm talking about the future, after N is uploaded to AOSP.
I know there will be lots of ROMs, but I just wanted stock Google software, no root, theme, anything.
Basically, an unofficial Google OTA.
I'm willing to pay for this, and I can gather many people to join this cause.
probably Google will release android N to Nexus 5, but its the last official release to it. Just like Nexus 4 on Lollipop era, was pretty the same thing.
How is that surprising they want you to buy the next device so if they drop support look at it this way you can always install a ROM and I'm confident you will see something up fast

Nop, Google won't release the Android N for Nexus 5, as they dropped the support for newer releases in October 2015. But of course that as soon as the source code is out we'll get the update because the devs will take care of that

Since you aren't clairvoyant I'll wait to see. The N7 2013 got MM but if you go by the date listed on googles site they stoped officially supporting it in July of 2015. And if not, eh.. There will be tons of N roms once its released. Most likely day one.

Looks like afterwards I have reason
We all know there will be lots of ROMs.
But the purpose of this thread, is to get to know if any developer would like to provide a stock "Google" equivalent, for those that want their N5 to feel like it's been updated by Google itself.
I'll sure try, especially if there is money on the line lol
I won't make any promises, but I'll gladly take a look when the source gets out if I still have the device.
I've been reading stuff on Reddit, and many people would appreciate this "Google experience" ROM.

No it is not officially over, nothing on that page confirms it is officially over. Only the ''Guaranteed" support is over for the Nexus 5.
That doesn't mean it won't get Android N, I think the chance for a official release of Android N for the N5 is really small but there's still a chance it will get it.
Till the final release of Android N is out no one knows anything for sure if it comes to the future of the N5.

I know he used to do it for the N5, pretty sure I've seen his builds for a few other phones as well. That was his thing. When a new Android OS comes out he usually releases a stock / AOSP build. Non rooted, no mods, etc. I'm not sure if he's still around though, but it can't hurt to ask.

Looking at the history of ROMs in the past here on XDA, there is usually always someone who ports a pure AOSP build with no mods. I wouldn't worry about it much. Especially this early.
I hope so.
Not really into modding/rooting/whatnot.
A stock Google-ish ROM for me, and I'll be happy.
Dont worry man.. Nexus 5 is still pretty popular phone and dev friendly so IMHO you shouldn't be worried at all.. There is i believe 99% chance u will have Android n, just be patient for a couple of months when the Android n will be officially released

So android 7.0 has just been released today for Nexus devices (Nexus 6,player,etc) and quite frankly I'm really hyped for it to get released on Samsung phones ( in a year or two xD) or made by a custom rom... So what do you think about it? Leave your opinion here also if there's a rom in the making to android n(for note 4 ofc... 910f/c/ etc..) post its link here. Thank you!
I don't really see features I'm dying to get, but it's always nice to have the latest OS. I wonder if there's any chance that Samsung will release an official (OTA) update for phones as old as the Note 4 and Note Edge. They probably have very little incentive to do it.

I know that on xda everyone is always keen to get the latest and greatest, but we all should calm down a bit. 7 is out since a few hour. Some Nexii haven't received the OTA yet and source isn't out. CM already said they'd merge N as soon as sources are made public. I wouldn't get my hopes up though. Naturally Samsung plus AOSP is a bit difficult. I'm sure we'll need to give it some weeks time (considering most of the kernel and drivers of M can be used).
I've no doubt some dev will get us the new shiny thing. :good:
Ans nope, i'm 99% sure sammy won't update to official N. I think the N5 can be happy if they get it... Wait and see i guess
Yes, Android 7 finally looks like something WORTH upgrading to for ANYONE.
looking forward to the upcoming roms...

No hope for me then. I need Knox, so custom roms (and rooting in general) are not an option.
It will be hard to root the n7 haha ?
I hate you Samsung for flooding new devices and yet very slow or no support for a new firmware for old devices.
I do not hope, or think that we will find anything really useful or revolutionary in it. As it never happened, at least not for me. I bought my Note4 with KitKat, rooted it immediately, and flashed an X-Note 4.4.4 and some other custom ROM´s on it. After Lollipop was released, i tried LL stock, and LL based custom ROM´s, i experienced shorter SOT, and almost that´s it. Advantages? Not really. I went back to 4.4.4, X-Note. It was a year ago or so. Two weeks ago something happened with my Note4, i had to reinstall it, so i thought i´ll give 6.0.1 a try. I´m using stock MM for two weeks now, "desperately" trying to find a reason to keep it, but... I like the off screen memo, although i don´t think i´ll use it too much, but the SOT is shorter again as it was with 4.4.4, and battery life proved to be more important than bling bling. So i´m pretty sure i´ll go back to my good old X-Note KitKat again. The MM´s infamous permission management system is bull****, (i couldn´t play Angry Birds 2, because i didn´t give the game a permission to check my photo albums????), so after trying all the available "post-KitKat" systems, i´m really skeptical about the android 7.

For work email and calendar. To be able to access my company's exchange server I need to provide them with insane permissions over my phone, the price of BYOD. When I do it within the Knox environment they are contained to it and cannot access or impact the rest of my phone. Worse case is that they delete the Knox container if they are trigger happy (most likely they're not, but I'm glad Knox allows me to not take this chance).

Its similar to what BlackBerry has on BB10 devices. If you were connected to a "BES server" all the enterprise items are contained in their own "side" of the phone with a password. If you lose your phone and it doesn't have any form of security password, someone could access your personal info, but not the company's. From there work items are separated and then the company can blow away that "work" side if you leave.. Taking their info away from you securely from you and leaving your personal info alone. Works fantastic in a BYOD environment, but most of us here on XDA will never use KNOX

Nope, Pocket (S5300) and Pocket Plus (S5301) have different chipset and then aren't compatible.
There's currently a 4.2 ROM for you device, but it is in very early stage.
I also have a S5301L and I'm trying to make a decent ROM for this device, but the only and hardest problem is the touch driver not working. I'll post here if I can fix that, but seems that this will be really difficult (the original dev leaved the development 4 years ago for the same reason, broken touch).

Nope, Pocket (S5300) and Pocket Plus (S5301) have different chipset and then aren't compatible.

It's bad that you also abandoned the firmware. And then I still use the pocket and there is not a single normal firmware

The Galaxy Pocket (GT-S5300) uses an ARMv6 processor, that core is nowadays weak and has a lot of limitations (most of them can only be passed by emulation, but as it's a weak cpu the performance would be terrible).

Are you still doing it? How is progress going?
I'm trying to keep Galaxy Pocket alive with Custom Roms, but it doesn't work ...

Anyone think we'll get any updates now that the 'S' versions of the phone have been released?
Or shall the regulars just be forgotten?
In my eyes it's a total joke.. they are releasing a new phone before they fixed the firmware of the last one wtf is this.

Well, the new phone was announced shortly after the original, to be honest. It's because the new chip was released.
That being said, their updates are few and far between and barely scratch the surface of the issues. Especially given that the global version is missing a ton of things over the Chinese one.
It's a missed opportunity....
OnePlus conquered a part of the smartphone world because of their amazing hardware, coupled with great software support and supporting the modding community.
Nubia could go the same way if they would've spend more time on their software support, instead of spitting out great devices with poor software...

I'm glad that the global rom is pure android. Clean and fast, and the battery life is amazing. I don't want bloat.

But have you seen the Chinese version? This is supposed to be a gaming phone. The Chinese version is more of a gaming phone than this one that is essentially just a fast phone with air triggers and crappy software

Exactly what I paid for - fast phone with pure Android, half flagship price. **** gaming!

You know what, I can't argue. It was less than $400, and from China
I got 6 OTA software updates since i got the device. Last one was after the official launch of the 3S.
