Which ROM is better for performance and battery saving ? - 7" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good day, comrades
I have 2012 kindle fire hd7. Installed kinology and cm12.1-20161016-NIGHTLY...
And it's slow as hell, even in title screen. Its clean rom with just 3 additional programs - QuickPic, Pocket MAL and Manga Rock.
I don't know why it's so lagging, so maybe there is some good rom oriented on performance and battery saving ?
The last one actually was the reason why i flashed my table every time i saw new rom. But starting from some rom (don't actually remember which) i started just losing performance so quick, that i droped playing games on it :\

Amazon doesn't call it that
1st gen is the 2001 Kindle Fire (non HD)
2nd gen/2012 : there are 3 different variations
Kindle Fire 2
7" Kindle Fire HD
8.9" Kindle Fire HD
this is only for 4th Gen Fire(s) (2014)
there is a separate section for your device see

Sorry, maybe i mixed up the rev.
I have HD 7 from first wave

If your device is the 2012 fire HD 7 inch ....
Youre Saying that you had lost performance so now the better path is to flash the stock rom , then flash a custom recovery , wipe EVERYTHING , then pass the rom of chocie to the tablet and try it from there.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1951254 this is the link for the program to flash the stock rom
and I have been using the AICP Nougat rom an so far so good ; but the camera does not work , not that I use it anyway.
This is the AICP rom

Try it that way an post results

So what actually will be done with this ? I completely wipe all my data, with kinology and recovery, and install raw fireOS ?
And which version is preferred ?
And is there any reason to flash something else beside stock rom ? I know, it's a weird question ) I mean is there some value benefits of custom rom compared to stock rom ?

Yes pretty much that , I would say install 7.2.3 . The point of this is to install the new rom with a completely fresh start .
I have owned this device for about 5 years now and I faced this simptoms that you describe a lot of times , and the solution was always a clean FireOs install , TWRP wipe everything form there and then flash the rom and a custom rom makes the Kindle Fire a lot more useful adds new features and at least to me , makes it a better device overall the stock rom is pretty limited and outdated (remember that it is android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich)
I would have posted the tutorial for the custom recovery but I think you know how to get it , anyway here is a link to an app that makes the process a lot easier just remember to double triple heck hexa check if necessary or else you may ending up needing a factory cable https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2168512

There are not such things as sutpid questions when you are doing something that are not used to so no problems with that mate
Yes I mean that one , that tool will flash your kindle fire back to a stock rooted firmware , the you will install FireFlash app to flash the recovery and second bootlader (link to a video explaining how to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1bLCuQN0-U&feature=youtu.be)
This is made to have a clean base so any dirty residues will be gone , please BACKUP your data before doing any of these steps as it will erase everything , here to help to any question you may have

Thanks a lot ) I will try now

So i done all of that.
fitst of all KFHD_SRT_v1.2.3- 7.2.3 wasn't the right choice. After it i had boot loop. So i used the next one, with separate boot flash. After several tries - i done that.
The next one - flash boot, revocery and rom with tool. Here i had some problems. I added all of that, including newest twrm and lineage rom. I done that, but after install click on wipe dalvik cache and etc - and stack at blue kindle logo. After going to recovery i find that i cant flash rom again. When i tried - i got recovery reload. After that, i wiped something and reinstall rom.
And got some bug. The starting guide constantly crushed, because of disabled wifi. After i decided to try AICP rom, and got exactly the same bug, BUT here i couldn't switch on wifi

KFHD7, no Root and bricked one of two already

Hello,
i have two newly purchased KFHD7.
Both resist to any tool or described method for rooting.
So i took one and tried to write via fastboot (i have a working cabel) an older version with bootloader and recovery.
This only leads to the situation of a short kinlde logo -> red scren and fastboot.
So i tried first aid for complete rstore but nothing changed.
As a last resort it tried to install the second bootloader but this maked it even more worse, the kindle is now bricked totally.
Now i ihave my second kindle and no clue what i can do.
Are there some changes with the newest kfhd7 ? Because it seems that there are more than me with the unrootable problem.

So,
tried on my second KFHD7 to Downgrade to 7.2.3 with the FirstAid tool, and what should i say....
KInlde Logot -> Red Screen -> Fastboot. Thats a Bad day.
Does soemeone have a boot and recovery as a backup from the latest release for me ?
Thanks

Use Kindle Fire restore tool. You will use fastboot cord, wipe first and then restore. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1951254 KFFA has been hit or miss lately.

Well, that maked no difference. Tried with v 1.3.5 and still the RED wall.
Are there any special steps to take ? I made Erase, Restore 3 and Restore 1
and also Erase and only Restore 3
Thanks

Not really because a red screen is considered a hard brick. Only on rare occasions does a red screen (on a Kindle Fire HD) get turned around.

I thought red screen meant signature failure ? Well probably i should see what read means, mine is more orange and fastboot is still coming, so it shouldn’t be bricked completely,
Well i thin i will first try to download original 7.4.6 update and install bootloader and recovery of them
Or will try the same from a different computer

Wait, you say you have two newly purchased KFHD7s... do you mean the 1st Generation KFHD7" from 2012? Or the new KFHD7" from 2013? Because if they're the 2013 versions, I don't think you can use the root tools mentioned in this subforum (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

You need learn your colors first so you can get the color of the screen right first. Then tell us what model/firmware you have. Each mod is specific to the model Kindle you have. If you used the system restore tool on the new Kindle Fire HD (2013) you bricked the shet out of your Kindle. The image and boot are completely different.

OK,
but what do you mean with colors ? I don’t think that i read somewhere to check colors first before you try to install one of the mods.
Even there is nowhere any warning to check something or that these mods are only available for models before Oct.2013
This is an information which is a sticky topic worth
But anyway, i started rma and will monitor the forum for any news on this topic

[Q] Howto 2nd bootloader an recovery when on latest 7.4.6 software?

What guide should I follow to install a 2nd bootloader and recovery? I have a 7kfhd with 7.4.6.
Most guides are a bit outdated or for previous software versions.
Should i downgrade the software first? If so, to which version?
I already rooted it. I just don't want to brick it so soon as it is for gift. I have read all I could but I still have many doubts. So I prefer to ask to someone who knows more before I brick it.
OK I will link you to the tutorial but before going through this process please tell me one thing, are you going to put a custom rim on it or do you want to leave the amazon os on it and just have a custom recovery? Because if you follow this guide, your kindle is going to boot loop unless you flash a specific file from kinology instead of one of the files in the tutorial. Here's the link though: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2271909

Well, I wanted to install cyanogenmod or similar, please advise me. I got this model because I read that it had many custom roms. This tablet is for my parents so I'd like to foolproof it. As much as I've tried the original software I can't find any reason to keep it, it is complicated and very limited, I don't want a stock based rom either.
OK good, that makes thing easier, simply download a ROM of your choosing and the gapps flashable zip that go along with it, and put them on your kindle before you start any of the process in that tutorial. Once you follow that tutorial there is one key thing you must do, check the first check box that more than likely will have red text under it about your bootloader version being to new. If you don't check that you will probably get a red screen that you can't fix without a fastboot cable. That pretty much covers it, just make sure to read through the tutorial, it's very informative. Oh and if you put a cm 11 or cm 11 based ROM, make sure to flash the most recent twrp flashable zip (from the dev section for your device) from within twrp like you would any other ROM. I believe hashcode recently added selinux support to twrp and its required to flash the cm 11 ROM. Any other questions just reply back!

To use fireflash, it really works best if you use fastboot to downgrade to 7.2.3. Hashcode has a 7.4.6 bootimg here http://hosting.crackflasher.com/get.../Hashcode0f/tate/kfhd7-freedom-boot-7.4.6.img (from this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2128848&page=50 ) to use if you're already on 7.4.6 Amazon firmware and use TWRP 2.6.3.1 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2128848 The firmware your Kindle is on must match the bootimg file you flash.
Just remember to drag and drop which ever ROM you want onto the internal SD card before flashing because FireFlash will flash TWRP as long as you check the boxes the op says to. Stack override for one. You should be able to access TWRP and flash the ROM from there.
Make sure to read that OP a few times so you don't have issues.

[Q] [Help!] kindle fire HD won't boot past first words saying Kindle Fire

I've been living (mostly) happily with my Kindle Fire HD 7" running BAM rom (the best rom ever) for a couple months now. I decided to upgrade to android 4.4. I went into TWRP to install the new rom, but it wouldn't install, so I decided to flash one of my recoveries I had made in october and it flashed it fine, but when it boots up now it won't even get to the blue Kindle Fire anymore, it's just a boot loop BEFORE it.
When I first did this I had basically no clue what I was doing so I didn't make sure that fastboot was working and it doesn't seem to be working now.
Please HELP!!!!

I had this happen to me recently. It's easy to fix, with the right tools. You need a Fastboot/factory cable (whatever you want to call it) that has a short from pin 1 to 4, and Kindle Fire First Aide (In the KFHD 7" General forum).

You don't necissarily have to buy one--I built one myself (with a little help from my dad). All you need is a spare Micro-USB cable, a soldering iron, a small strand of wire, and a bit of battery power left on your Kindle. If you want to make the job a little bit easier, you can also get a Micro-USB breakout board from SparkFun.com. They're so much easier to solder to than a plain Micro-USB end.
Tutorial I used: http://chimerasaur.us/2012/01/making-a-kindle-fire-factory-cable/
For the breakout board: https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10031
hey, was able to use a single wire to temporarily turn my normal usb to a fastboot usb:cyclops:, but now what do I do?
Don't know what's happening!!
I flashed a new system, boot, and recovery, but it still will boot up into boot loop. WHAT DO I DO (I do know how to do fastboot using -i 0x1949 so I know that's not my problem I'm thinking bootloader, but am not sure)
tried flashing bootloader...
Didn't work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm a little irritated. downloading a program(forgot it's name) that's supposed to be able to flash the proper files to recover a fully bricked device, so I'm hopeful:fingers-crossed:

No such tool exists for the KFHD. What ever you're about to use is gonna hard brick your tablet. Use the system restore tool for Kindle Fire 7 and run the bat tool or push the images. Read the tutorial to get some background knowledge on this.

So what was the name of the program you used?
What was suggested earlier
After posting some of my previous posts, I realized I somehow had kffirstaid and used the restore option (but I personally like to manually do the fastboot commands, so I used it mainly to download the files and do it the first time) then redid the steps in this forum to get it to reinstall twrp and then flashed cm11.

[Q] Is there a 2nd-Bootloader and TWRP for 7.4.7?

I recently bought a KFHD 7 2013 with version 7.4.7 loaded on it. Root was fairly simple but after reading through Hashcode's and seokhun's threads it seems like the installation for Bootloader and TWRP is updated for up to 7.4.6. I was to install some custom roms to make this device into a full android tablet so does anyone have any info for kindles with 7.4.7?
Has anyone tried and succeeded using the methods in the tutorial for 7.4.6?
Is there another way for 7.4.7?
Please post up if you have any information.
OK put it this way, the current method does work for it, because the main thing to know is we have to downgrade the boot loader first anyways. You can also downgrade the is if you wanted. Anyways point being, the current freedomboot image more than likely doesn't work with that version, but here's the important little bit about that. The freedomboot doesn't really matter as long as you put the ROM and gapps on the device first or Don,t mind going through the trouble of pushing it onto the device with the adb command afterwards when it's in recovery. If the current freedom boot version isn't the same as the os version you typically will bootloop. So yea in short yes it works, just put the ROM you want to flash on the internal storage first so you can flash it without a hassle.

Oh I see the link was missing a hyphen! I need to go to this thread and use the tools provided there. Since Rootjunky.com posted up a really good video to get into fastboot mode I should have no problems getting this to work. After I downgrade I can easily follow seokhun's guide and have CM or PA installed in no time. Thanks a ton!

How to install 2nd bootloader for kindle fire 7.4.8 when theres no image for it?

I have gained root acess and now I've been trying to install 2nd bootload and TWRP following this tutorial;- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1bLCuQN0-U
It says
" If you have a different version then 7.4.6 then look here for the freedom image you will need http://goo.im/devs/Hashcode/tate/ "
But there seems to be no image for the 7.4.8 version. Should I just use the 7.4.6 version?
I also checked out the Installing Kindle Fire HD 7" 2nd-Bootloader + TWRP Complete Tutorial thread but it says I need to revert back to 7.2.3 before starting.
Please help.
Long story short you don't need to downgrade technically. What needs downgrading is the bootloader, also the 7.4.6 will sorta serve its purpose, you need to flash it for second d bootloader, however the current 7.4.6 freedomboot isn't compatible with 7.4.8 in the sense that it compares the freedom boot version with the os version and if they don't match it boot loops into recovery, which isn't a problem if you plan on flashing a custom ROM, so to make things easy just remember to put the ROMs you want to flash onto the kindle ahead of time or it will be slightly more difficult to do so once it starts boot looping into recovery. I recommend the fire flash method if you are not comfortable with a lot of command prompt commands, but in that method there's always the risk of you not seeing the downgrade bootloader option, its there, its just a lot of people tend to not see the check box next to or above the red warning text, and when its not checked you reboot with a nice red screen only a fastboot cable can fix. Just remember if you use the method you are doing, please for the sake of all that is good check the md5sum of the bootloader file you are going to flash to downgrade the bootloader, if you don't and its a bad download you will end up with a expensive paperweight.

Uh.. that seems complicated. Can I just downgrade my version from here and then follow the thread?
Thanks for taking the time out to answer this.
I mean you could but it would be a lot of extra work that's not needed. All you need to do is stick the ROM and gapps on ahead of time, downgrade the bootloader, and do the rest of the instructions as it says in tutorial.

Ok, I'll try.

Hey im a noob at this so I was wondering if you could make a more in depth tutorial on how to do that. I have kindle fire hd7 7.4.8 but they dont have a boot image ughhh help please???
That doesn't matter, just follow one of the 2 main tutorials foe your device and use the latest boot image available, make sure you loaded the ROM and zip on ahead of time and all should be fine.

Has anyone tried this? Will I be able to get back to the Kindle OS if I do this and go into a bootloop?

once you it you won't be able to get into kindle os, thus why you need a custom rom on the device ahead of time so you can flash it when it bootloops into recovery mode. If you downgrade it you can still access the kindle os, but it takes a little longer and you have to download another few hundred mb of data.

Ok, great that totally makes sense now. I was missing that you could downgrade once you have TWRP installed. Got TWRP running and I'm making my first back up. Thanks for all you help stunts513! You previous posts and walkthroughs were very helpful!
