The lag seen with ADW is really starting to annoy me. At first I was ultra happy with the phone, but then some of my friends with iphone 4s pointed out how choppy the switching of homescreens was on the N1 along with the stutter seen on the app drawer. I have googled everything and cant find a fix. I already tried doing the recomended settings from the link below, but there is still lag. Will switching to launcher pro fix my issues? I am hesitant to switch because I love that ADW has the look of the stock froyo launcher, is it even possible to have the stock dock look in launcher pro?

Ignorance is bliss...
Now ask your friends with iPhone to show you an app that will automatically turn off their WiFi and turn on BT when they leave their home, for example. Then ask them to show you live wallpaper on their phones. When they fail, chill out and understand that you can't fix it. Android launchers aren't capable of seamless scrolling, because the system behind them wasn't meant for pretty graphics.
You're only 2346851 in number to ask this question.

Haha so true, ignorance is great. Yea i know alot of people had similar questions, but all the threads i found were not for N1s and they were pretty old, figured out some genius must have done something about it since just about everything else has been done on these xda forums. I just hate seeing wasted potential. The snapdragon and 512mb ram is more than enough horsepower to get simple smooth scrolling down. Just wish there was some type of gpu acceleration support.
By the way how do you turn off the wifi automatically when you leave home? I rely on the powercontrol widget.
I had a similar point from an iPhone user, I barely noticed it - and then I pointed out I was running a custom launcher (launcher pro) with a TON of widgets and animated wallpaper. Since then an update has made it silky smooth.
There are a few themes in launcher pro, default froyo is one - I use wide froyo which gives me:
phone-contacts-app-drawer-sms-browser
buttons.
Gingerbread should help in this department, or so they say. Currently the best the launchers can do still has a hiccup or two from time to time. Personally, I don't even notice it, using LauncherPro, as the poster above me, with all 7 screens full of icons and widgets, and Starfield wallpaper.
Locale. It's a great concept app. I used it, but stopped - now I just keep BT and WiFi constantly on (BT almost doesn't drain battery - usually less than 2% of the power - and WiFi is present at home and at work, so I turn it off only when the phone is expected to last long in places where no WiFi is found). Since I don't have other uses - like turning down the volume automatically in specific places, etc - I stopped using it.

Have you changed the app drawer to 4 apps per row? I remember 5 per row being set on cm6, that will make some difference.
Yes, launcher Pro has a Froyo dock look. In the settings its called "froyo" I think. It looks pretty good, a little different than ADW.

Yea i did change it to 4 apps per row, and it did help a little. Im going to test out launcher pro. Is there anything i should know about switching launchers and running cyanogen 6? If i dont like launcher pro will it be easy to switch back? Some places said that adw still runs in the background and that i have to uninstall adw for it to not hog any resources.

You can easily switch back. A lot of people seems to be experiencing a little lag with adw in the latest CM version. Launcher pro doesn't have this issue.
I'm not sure about Adw running in the background, but you can easily uninstall it using titanium backup.
I just played around with launcherpro and im not impressed. There was still lag, though it could have been because i didnt set a default launcher and adw was still running in the background. The switching between the homescreens was a little smoother, but thats because it did it alot slower. I prefer the more stock look that adw offers. On launcher pro the screens had 4x4 columns/rows but i didnt like the grid spacing. For some reason my beautiful widgets weather/clock was 20% smaller in size compared to ADW. Not sure why the widgets and icon sizes are smaller in launcherpro (i kept switching back and forth between launchers to compare).

My experience is that Launcher pro is generally smoother and faster than ADW. I believe the newer versions of ADW have improved quite a bit, but LP still gets my vote.
However since the 22x nightlies as well as the official 6.1RC1, I have been experiencing some lags no matter which launcher I am using
If you need to stay with CM, you might wanna try another kernel, it helps

I bought my nexus with cm6 already installed, and still havent bothered updating to the newest 6.1 version. Mainly im just waiting till the end of the month. Dont want to mess anything up and i need my phone to be fully functional till then. All i know is that in the sd card I saw a clockworkmod file, so im assuming thats the backup. I will go into installing custom roms probably when gingerbread is released. I might try installing launcher pro again and uninstalling adw fully and see if that fixes the lag. I like ADW and just wish the app scrolling was a little more smooth.
**** I just found out that my ADW version was 1.0.1, and there have many updates since then. I found a 1.2.0 version and will test that out. http://code.google.com/p/adw-launcher-android/downloads/list
Learn to play with your N1. Once you're proficient, you could easily do partial wipes and ROM flips inside of 5mins.
Heck, if you've got a good wifi you might be able to wipe full and restore inside of 10 mins.
Point being, you'd feel safer about trying/looking at changes like a new different launcher and ROMs, knowing that you can flip back to a solid setup with all your data and apps intact.
This play is part of the beauty in the N1.

Couldn't agree more I used to juggle roms and now I use miuimod with lpp with the screen cache turned off and if I have to compete against a iPhone showdown then I put my min CPU at 384 and it should be as smooth if not smoother. n1 is great for tinkering

also turning off the transparency in the drawer should help improve smoothness
Found out the cause of the problem was live wallpapers. On launcher pro, as soon as live wallpaper was disabled it ran like butter. I was hoping to get live wallpapers to work also, but having lag is not a good trade off.

A lot of it depends on the specific wallpaper in question. Slower, more subtle animations tend to behave better (and use less battery) than some of the more intense ones. I recommend one called Substrate - it slowly evolves and changes, but keeps the homescreen transitions very smooth and snappy.
I'm currently running one called "better matrix" or something similar that is very eye catching but doesn't bog things down too much.
I would like to change launcher because... the default icons are too big and ugly. But I've got some questions:
- Is Nova actually ok? Or slow it down or consume more battery?
- Can I configure Nova to be exactly like the default launcher (obviously with different icons) ?
- Using Nova do I lose any "Moto"-function?
Hope you can help so I can proceed soon and complete the config of the new phone :good:
Hi...I use Nova on mine. Works great. You can still use moto voice etc. And yes you can change the icons to stock or what ever very easy...no slows downs its actually faster than stock launcher....
Thanks for the reply!
Any suggestion about how to configure it so I can have the same grids for the dock app drawer etc? I mean 4X4 or whatever it is...
Just leave it as is. Its either exactly like stock or slightly different nothing big...
Just remember to dissable that option to put apps in the "middle" between 2 grids, it looks awful

Where you chose the size (3x3, 4x3, etc...) of the grid theres an "option" un check it !
What Launcher you suggest for my Xperia Z3 Compact ?
I don't like the normal one it's a way too big for the compact.
At the moment I use APEX launcher but the drawer does not give me all the apps I installed weird bug.
Which one you suggest me ?
I use NOVA Prime, no issues so far.
Nova Launcher is the best!!!

For completeness Solo Launcher should also be mentioned, it's prettier than Nova Launcher, though a tad slower. Personally, I use Nova Launcher Prime.
Aviate in my opinion is the best looking and smoothest! I use aviate or nova depending on my mood
I quite like Action Launcher. Has everything I need...

No such bug for me, but you might check Apex Settings -> Drawer settings -> Hidden apps. Maybe you've hidden some apps by mistake.
I'm using Aviate, if you prefer smart launchers.

Lightning Launcher - I've tried them all (yeah, who hasn't!).
It's not as fancy and a bit more complicated to set up than others but seriously there is simply none that is as customisable as this one.
Features I like the most are that on the main screen you can both scroll horizontally and vertically and you can also put widgets in folders, supercustomize the app drawer, change each folders' appearance.. you name it, you can customise it all.

Nokia Z Launcher ftw.
Once again... Nova Prime.
Customizable in very many ways but not bloated (love the 1/2 grid). Fast as hell. Easy on battery (there are quite a few launchers which aren't and who wants his launcher to drain battery...). Most icon themes are made for Nova. There are launchers which are laggy even on high-end devices (tried Aviate recently... lol) and use a lot of resources. I think those should be free for your apps, not your launcher.
Use it for 2 years now. From time to time I try other, also new, launchers (to watch the progress) but there is none that wouldn't make me wish to go back to Nova. Imo it's the best launcher ever.
Used to only use Nova... but for some reason have been sticking with Google Now. Seems to be the quickest, most stable, and I don't have to worry about constantly tweaking (not that you have to with Nova, but if it's possible to tweak, i'll tweak). Guess I'm just boring nowadays!

well you can tweak it with xposed + xposed gel settings then it gets much better
have always preferred apex over nova. similar, but all the features I need are in the free version, while to get the same important features for me in nova I would have to get the paid version...so why should I if I have them for free in apex?!
and actually, there were a couple of features in apex that I didn't find in nova.... not even in the paid version... apex all the life!! :good:
KK Launcher Pro, xposed and mods
Nova here, too. But I do find the phone is slightly more laggy with it. Or maybe that's some other issue.
I use Smart Launcher 2 Pro. I got tired of rows and columns of icons, so I have it set up with a circle of icons and I'll dig into the categorized drawer if I want to run anything else.

So I updated my Xperia Z3+ today and noticed that the home screen does not rotate any more.
I looked in the home screen settings, but there is no such option, like it used to be on 5.0.1.
Am I just not seeing this option, or has Sony removed this feature?
No answer I see. I unfortunately found the same thing, and it really annoys me. I had to move to use Nova launcher so I could get it back, but unfortunately I don't find nova as good as the inbuilt one. The widget handling of nova on the xperia is terrible, and the standard app tray is not as good as the xperia one. I keep hoping there will be an update that fixes it.
I guess it is that sony sadly stopped implementing mag charging and docks for the z5 and later so just don't care. And honestly I can not understand why they stopped that. It is fantastic using your phone as a bedside clock / photo frame on a dock. If I lost my current XPeria, I'd probably just buy the same model again, not get one of the later ones. Or find a different brand that did support horizontal dock/charge.
EDIT: It looks like they have released a beta of it with it fixed, but apparently buggy:

2. Widgers overlap
3. Icon resizable from 100-10%
3. Desktop and app drawer grid customization.
4. Hide/ Unhide docks.
5. Customise the notification look on nova.
6. Place whatever shortcut you want to put on desktop.
7. Choose between vertical, horizontal and card swipping in app drawer.
8. Lots of animation... And many more...
And what stock gives you will you please elaborate?
What launcher are you using on your OP6T ?
and what do you think of the oneplus launcher ?
I usually use Nova Prime, or Action Launcher Plus, but I'm actually really liking the OnePlus launcher.
I'm using Nova. If the default launcher had more grid options and didn't chop off long app names I would use it plus with Nova companion I can get the Google feed by swiping right.
Lawnchair v2.
But nova doesn't work properly on my T-Mobile oneplus 6t it laggs and sometimes i have to press icon twice to respond
This launcher would be perfect with google feeds, but I'm substituting it with google news until an implementation comes.
I use nova, pixel like launcher, but since the last version of navigation gesture, I have to use Oneplus launcher...i love this, but google feed misses me a lot ...and also the search bar at the bottom
Happy with stock, coming from pixel myself
I always use Nova - have done for years. But today I decided, "Screw it" and factory reset the phone and I'm trying it au naturel. Sure the OnePlus launcher is way behind Nova in terms of features, but I'm not particularly missing anything.
Usually use the Google Now launcher but the stock one on T-Mobile is pretty much that at this point.
I've been using lawnchair. It's been around a while, also opensource, on the play store, and has all of the customisations you might want.
Nova launcher, I tried the op launcher in the beginning but I like nova more. Way more features and options
I started off using Oneplus's launcher, and then a realized I can't re-arrange home screens. That and the spacing of apps icons was terrible. So I switched back to Nova

It's in "alpha" status, but is very stable. The only real bug I've had is sometimes it locks up when changing the wallpaper and doesn't reload after changing it. (50/50). In that case the quickest thing is to reboot. It takes no time at all. Sometimes if you wait a minute it will load anyways, but like I said, it's just quicker to reboot.

Latest version was built about a month ago (Oct 18th). Comes with all of the Google feed goodness built in.
I would like to use CPL but I'm noticing that third party launchers don't use the close animation that the OnePlus Launcher uses which is smoother. Third party launchers just close screens with the drop down animation (which is the worst animation ever) but the OnePlus Launcher uses the same animation the Pixel launcher on the Pixel devices uses which looks much nicer. This forces me to use the OnePlus Launcher even though I would much rather use something with more options -- in particular CPL.
I use nova and it's works flawless, very snappy and smooth
