Tasker notification on Android Wear even when blocked - Tasker Tips & Tricks

First off, I have searched many times and not found any info about this, here or on the google. I could not find even a closely related thread. I hope this is the correct forum to start a new thread, if not, I apologize and please point me in the right direction.
I have a Samsung Gear 2 Neo, running the bitkor_gj ported Android Wear OS for Zenwatch, as opposed to the original Tizen OS. Its awesome. This watch is paired with a Moto X Pure 2015, running on Stock / rooted 6.0, with Substratum, Viper Atmos, Gravity Box and Tasker (regular not Tasker for Wear).
Randomly, I receive a notification from Tasker, on the watch, even tho I have blocked all notifications, from tasker, in the Android Wear app and in phone>settings>sound&notification.
Periodically(every month or so for a few days), the Gear 2 Neo shows a notification, from Tasker that has a pause button on it. If swiped to the right, it should but does not go away. If the pause button is selected, it changes to a play button and the notification can be swiped to the right and goes away. If swiped to the left, for more info, a screen with volume up & down and forward & reverse track buttons.
I do not know what this notification is supposed to be for or control or how to prevent it.
Watch screenshots in next post.

Initial notification / Notification swiped up / Notification swiped left

Well, because I change phones and watches around, often, I stumbled onto the cause.
I build a Tasker profile to prevent BT music auto play. If the API box is checked, under GRAB, this causes the notification to be sent to the watch. I removed the API selection and the notification stopped .

This "player" notification shows, even if the API box is not checked, under GRAB, in the profile, but API is selected in the main PREFERENCES menu.
The issue is that if API s not selected, the profile does not function 100% of the time.
How can this "player" function be stopped from showing on Android Ware device?

Lollipop 5.0.1 Tips

I figured I'd start a thread to share tips and tricks moving over to LP 5.0.1
Haven't found a way to add icons to Lock Screen other then Call & Camera yet BUT..
If your like me and really don't like the use of LP's Home button I downloaded "Screen Off and Unlock" from play store, now when I press and hold Home the screen goes off/sleep, it still goes to Google Now if you double hit Home...
1) If you want to use Do Not Disturb (DND), setting the toggle to on will keep DND on all the time. Setting just a schedule (and keeping the toggle off) will only activate DND during the scheduled time.
Alternatively, you can use the app called Do Not Disturb, which, IMO, works better than the default one. Plus, you can set multiple schedules!
2) if you're like me and hate how the new lockscreen notifications show everything that appears in your notification panel, and only shows the first 2 notifications (before you have to expand them all), then look at NiLS on Play. It mimics the LP lockscreen notifications, but you can choose what notifications to show or hide. And you can theme them too.

Ring Doorbell Pro Integration With Tablet

I have the Ring Doorbell Pro and am generally happy with its performance. I also just mounted an older Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 on the wall, as a hub for my various home automation lights, switches, etc..
I am trying to get the Ring Doorbell app to open when there is a ring, or motion is detected, to show the image from the Ring's camera for 40 seconds, then to close and return to the tablet's Home page.
I purchased Tasker, but unfortunately, my recipe is not working well at all. Here is what I have as a Tasker profile:
The trigger is a Ring app Notification when either a ring or motion is detected.
1. Open Ring app
2. Wait 41 seconds
3. Go Home
This works sometimes, but most of the time it either does not open the app, or it does not close the Ring camera-view window, or it does not go to the Home page, but stays on the Ring app's list view of events.
Has anyone done what I am trying to do and how did they do it? Any other suggestions?
I also have a Smartthings hub, if this would help in anyway. And Amazon Echo
Thanks!

Thanks! I did it, restarted tasker and the notification trigger worked several times in a row.
But it still fails to close the camera window, or to Go Home
Anyone with a Ring Doorbell who has achieved the task of bringing up the view window to the front for 40 seconds (the standard recording duration of Ring), and then closing it and returning to the Home screen?
So, does this mean that Tasker is unable to reliably bring an app to the front for 40 seconds, then close it?
Bump! Interested as well..
I suggest checking two things:
1. Instead of just going home, try killing the app
2. Double check the priorities of actions and set the task to abort existing tasks

have you looked into using IFTTT? there are ring recipes on there
To the OP. Did you ever get this to work?
I am trying the same thing with tasker, but tasker is new to me so im not sure how exactly to set this up. Are you able to assist?
Bump! Anyone have luck with this?
So far I have tasker doing the following on my wall mounted tablet near the front door upon receiving a Ring doorbell notification (motion or door bell):
Screen unlock
Secure settings > wake (screen & keyboard lights on 4 seconds)
Launch app > Ring
Wait 30 seconds
Go Home
All the tasks trigger except the wait for 30 seconds. Tasker ends up going home before the ring camera fires up and displays on the screen. This also has the unfortunate side effect of locking the ring doorbell and I have to manually go into the app and click the red hang up icon to “release” the doorbell. Any ideas on how to solve for the wait issue AND to gracefully close the Ring app after 40 seconds?
Thanks.
Me Too
I'm also trying to do the same thing with an old Samsung Galaxy 10.1 tablet so also very interested if someone has figured out how to get this to work.
Couple of additional questions:
1. If you have a wall mounted tablet how are you dealing with RING app wanting to run in Portrait mode only for navigation but landscape mode only for Live View
2. How to hve RING app immediately go to live camera via as right now I have to go from RING menu to Front Door and then Live View when motion is detected or click on notification if doorbell is rung. My goal is to be able to do what Amazon Echo Show can do which is give a voice command to Tablet .. "Show Front Door"
RING App combined with TASKER and/or IFTTT on an Android Tablet set-up as a KIOSK have a lot of potential if these issue can be resolved.
THanks,
Chris

Ring Doorbell automation with Tasker, Notification Listener and Rotation Controller
I have forced my RING App to run in Landscape Mode with an app called "Rotation Controller".
To have the RING App go directly to the live cam when the doorbell is rung, you can use the Tasker Plugin "Notification Listener" and make Tasker click on the notification as soon as it pops up. This makes the device switch directly to the camera view instead of the Ring App Homescreen.
This works fine so far, BUT yet I have found no way to close the camera view after a few seconds automatically. I can´t use the tasker "kill app" command, since my Xido X111 android device is not rootable. The "go home" command would bring up the home screen, but the camera window is still running in the background and thus blocking the doorbell until the hang-up symbol is clicked manually.
Any ideas how to close the camera view somehow on an unrooted device?

If you can access your tablet with ADB to do the set-up, look into AutoTools/AutoInput
"Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment." - Will Rogers
AutoInput Point click didn‘t work for me, because the ring app doesn‘t seem to support accessibility from other apps (or maybe i was just too incompetent) BUT i found a very easy solution: after tasker fires up the ring camera and waits for x seconds, i let it just load the ring app again with the toggle „always start new copy“. This doesn‘t kill the ring app, but at least kills the camera screen and therefore prevent the doorbell from locking up. Now it just works as i wanted

You need the additional Tasker Plugin "Notification Listener" and make Tasker click on the notification as soon as it pops up. To close the camera screen after a few seconds, you just load the ring app again with tasker (don´t forget the toggle „always start new copy“).

"Profile" is the event that triggers something. In our case this is the notification from the ring app. you can choose "Notification Listener Event -> Posted Apps -> Ring App" for that.
"Task" are the actions which are triggered by the Profile Event (click on the notification to open the camera screen, wait x Seconds, close the camera by opening the ring app again):
1. Plugin>Gestures>Configuration>Notification Key: %nlkey
2. wait>45 Seconds
3. Launch App>Ring
you don´t need the "if"
I got it working!! thanks alot
Hi.
I've got all necessary programs (first time I bought something from play store) but can't get it to work.
Part with :"Plugin>Gestures>Configuration>Notification Key: %nlkey"
does not work.
How to get it to work?

Notifications minimised and can't expand

So in the past couple of weeks or so my notifications have started acting up.
90% of the time they are minimised and cannot be expanded.
5% of the time they are minimised but I can drag down to expand them.
Then 5% of the time they are acting normal and are expanded.
Anyone know how to fix this? I've gone through the notifications settings and can't figure it out.
This is affecting all apps and all notifications.
I am on emui 9.0.0.925.
The only recent change to my phone is that I installed a work profile that is required by my work to access work emails and apps.
I don't think I have updated emui recently but I can't remember.
I get rid of this problem on my Samsung galaxy A7. Hope will help you out too.
1. Go to App Notifications
2. Click on the application which you want to unminimise.
3. You can see different more buttons. Click them one by one, you will find an option notification style.
4. Here you uncheck "silent and minimise" by clicking any other option like "sound" or "silent".

How to change whatsapp preview message on lock screen?

Hi all,
I bought a Xiaomi 9 SE a while back, coming from iPhone. I was under the impression that everything was tweakable with android, but i can't figure out how to adjust the pop-up notifications from whatsapp in any way. Currently whenever i receive a whatsapp message my screen turns on and shows a huge rectangle in the middle of the screen showing the message with two buttons beneath it reading "reply" and "close". Then i can scroll to the right and left, showing the next message and previous messages in case i received more than one. This sucks for a number of reasons.
The rectangle looks like it was invented in 1999. It is so obnoxious; huge, ugly with no way around it. It stays on your lock screen blocking everything else until you've closed it manually. When i (feel forced to) close the preview screen (because i want to use my phone for another purpose) there is no way of retrieving the previews of the messages, i have to open the app instead.
The time stamps are missing. I have to figure out the chronology of messages myself by looking at the number in the upper right corner (1 of 13, 2 of 13 etc.) but even then i don't know if the message was sent an hour ago or a minute ago (and even then, i don't know if message 13 was the last one or message 1). Besides, this 'scrolling' to the left and right is so time consuming and unclear compared to being able to look at all messages beneath one another with the first one at the top and the last one at the bottom in one quick view (as with my old iphone).
Phone companies are always nagging about protecting privacy and therefor not showing the content of preview messages of whatsapp, i never understood this when i was on iphone and the previewed messages were subtle, vague and small - with the longer messages needing to be expanded by a swipe down with the finger to fully view (in case of texts longer than a couple of words). But now i get it, these android preview messages light up the screen in a way you can not NOT look at it and the content of the messages is right there in the middle to read for everyone. Also with iPhone i remember the screen would only light up with the first message you received from someone and have some sort of cooldown timer on it before the screen turned on again, with my xiaomi every message someone sends makes the screen light up. In case of people who send a lot of messages in a row (instead of making 1 long message) that means the phone screen in turned on for minutes on end, super annoying and distracting.
Am i totally missing something or is this just the way whatsapp preview messages work with android? Is there any option somewhere hidden to change the form of the whatsapp preview messages to something less obnoxious? Or any third party app for that matter, as this is driving me crazy.
I have MIUI 11 since a day or two now, and was hoping this would change things, but so far i haven't figured it out.
Thanks in advance all!
Yes there is. Just disable the so called toast messages. And you can also disable lock screen messages. And of course disable whatsapp message notification at all!
For the first thing. Whatsapp>settings>notifications>use high priority notifications
For the second check your android AND launcher specific lockscreen settings.
For the third option check the App permissions. or just modify the appearance of the message the time it is there. Grab it left or right and then hit the settings gear for notification display permission (I hope it is called like this).

hi, thanks for the answer. I think this does not solve my issue if i understand everything correctly. To be clear: i WANT notifications on my lock screen, just not in the form of the idiotic big rectangle. I want the more subtle, smaller, elongated 'balloons'. Strangly enough when i press "close" on the previewed messages on my Lock screen they disappear and for a second turn into such a small 'balloon', only to disappear straight away then.
The "use high priority notifications" gives a little pop-up at the top of the screen that disappears after like 2 seconds. This is no problem for me.
Under "ambient display and lock screen" settings you can choose for the screen whether to light up or not when a message is received. Although i'd like there to be some sort of cooldown to prevent my phone from lighting up for longer periods on end or all the time, this is not the biggest issue either. (Apparently this overruled by something else as setting it to "do nothing - when notifications come and the screen is off" does not work, it still lit up when receiving a whatsapp message)
Under "notifications" settings you can select "lock screen notifications", "floating notifications" and "notifications badges" - so i go to 'lock screen notifications' where i can select 'format' (sounds promising!), but this only gives me the options to:
- show notification content
- show notifications but hide content
- don't show lock screen notifications
No option to change the style of the Lock screen notifications frustratingly.
EDIT: i may have just found the answer myself ... turn off "pop-up notifications" in the whatsapp settings. This way you still get notifications, but no longer the horrible big ones in the middle of the screen

Notification Issues.... three questions from a new owner

This is my first Galaxy watch, so maybe I have a few settings or something wrong, but I can't figure out why the Watch3 shows a digital clock when there are notifications and doesn't go back to the "home screen," my watch face.
On my Android WearOS watch, when I have a notification come through, the screen changes to let me know what it is, and then if I do nothing, it goes back to the watch face I have selected. On the Watch3, if any notification comes through, I MUST do something (press the home side button, rotate the bezel, etc) in order to go back to the watch face or else it shows a persistent large digital clock as if I'm 10 years old and need to see numbers in order to read the time!
Second question, semi related to the first, but which setting do I uncheck so that a notification doesn't open full screen and I have the ability to swipe up to remove it or click on it to expand it? Is that "Show with details?" Turning that off means I can manipulate the notification without having to hit the back button first, then swipe up to clear or rotate bezel to see other notifications?
Final question, why do I have to go into the Notification settings on my phone to see recently sent notifications and manually turn them on when "Turn on for new apps" is in the on position? When an app sends a new notification from my new Note20 Ultra to my new Watch3, I see it listed in this section but I have to manually allow it to notify my watch even though "new apps" is selected and should be letting anything NEW to come through on the watch without having to okay it first! Any thoughts on why that is or what I am doing wrong?
Thanks in advance!
