Performance: Stock vs Custom ROM - Xiaomi Mi MIX Questions & Answers

Hey everyone. I'm curious about the performance differences between stock MIMU on the global Mi Mix and custom ROMs currently available. Have any of you gained noticable improvements when moving from stock to custom? Right now, I'm fine with stock performance for the most part, but I am finding web browsing with Chrome a kind of laggy. Compared to the LG G6, the Mi Mix just feels a couple steps behind, despite having the same chipset.
Thanks in advance.

Custom Roms, aicp, los and RR are way faster then stock.

And if Stock ROM is a bit customized ? then it become a Custom ROM with stability... This what i search like i see on HTC ROM when i play a bit with Llabtoofer rom...
And this not exist actually on MIUI... Deodexed, Ram management, tweaks (soft), and a kernel optimized with few feature who unlock qualcomm feature....

I have RR installed, it is very responsive
(and you get rid of the closed source code of MIUI that you cannot know what it is doing in the background)

yep maybe... but u can manage a lot of stuff in MIUI...
anyway ApsOps let u manage authorisation of all system and with amplify you can stop some stuff too...
then i suppose with a few tweaks, you can have stock rom with better performance... anyway, my device is very responsive too on Global from xiaomi.eu and a lot of extra xposed feature...

Nope, you cannot have stock with miui. You can freeze almost all xiaomi apps with tb but not core system services. If you trust a chinese company's closed source code, then stay with miui, as it is not slow, on the opposite it's quite smooth. And it has some additional features over stock Android, and indeed the advantage of running xposed.

[Q] Custom Kernel / Stock MIUI V6

Hi guys, i have searched for quite some time around here, i'm glad to see that development for this device is well on high gear, but i'd like to know, Are any of the many custom kernels here, compatible with using MIUI? (V6, 4.4.4)
I like CM, used it for a long time on other devices, i like PA even more, but on this case, i prefer using MIUI, i like the concept, i like the features, and the portuguese MIUI team does a great job on debloating it and optimizing some things (like the GPS).
But on the other hand, i really would like to be able to tinker with the kernel settings, although the stock one lets you change a couple of things out-of-the-box...
Thank you in advance.

For now, kernels are only working on Lollipop, no version for MIUI but @audahadi was workin for a version of his ported Franco Kernel for MIUI but he has some problems with wifi, it isn't working
Any news for custom stock kernel ?
yes it is,
it xcelerate kernel. compatible with miui v6 & v7.
xcelerate kernel for mi3 ?
Do you have a link? Please
You can give this Amateratsu Kernel a shot. It features "Double Tap to Wake".

So OnePlus 3T community has got a chance to breathe for 2 months, whats the best rom?

So I been biding my time waiting on the people to tinker and try everything. So I gotta ask, what do you thin is hands down the best ROM for Oneplus 3T, doesn't have to be custom, can be stock, just want to know what people think.
Personally Ive been using stock the most.

For me it's FreedomOS .
You can make it as stock as you want....well almost stock. And it also supports Substratum legacy support.
Still using stock. it's relatively clean so no issue there. Also, official LineageOS (post-CM) already have OP3 rom posted, I just wonder would that be universal build that support 3T also. Either way, not gonna try as I have no need for custom ROM at the moment.
Favourites are Tesla and stock 4.0.2
Currently using Tesla 21/01 build, its almost perfect - OMS support, great battery and relatively stable. There are some features of stock OOS that I really like (besides the stability and smoothness) such as the Shelf, and OOS camera. If only stock didn't have forced encryption, I would have stayed on it.
Tried almost all ROMs...and have to say Freedom is the smoothest of all..
Stock and Freedom OS.. All rest of the ROMs are still buggy and unstable for me so far..

Tried a few.. now I've gone back to stock.. seems the most reliable so far...
This is the first phone where I'm living stock. And still doesn't feel any need to go for custom roms or kernels.
Still on stock rom. The first time that I have no need for custom rom. Even I have stock recovery, just root.
For me the best at the moment is AICP, pretty stable, LOT of customization, really fast.. Cons are camera and maybe battery, which is pretty average.. but in general is the rom i like most.
Stock.
Custom roms give more harm than goods!
I would like to know a Oneplus 3T custom room that fully supports Substratum
It would have been good if the stock OOS 4.0.3 would have supported but that does not seem to be the case and I would like to know if there is anything better than that.
Stock w/ Franco kernel ftw!
I always use stock OOS since the beginning, combined with custom kernels such as blu_spark or franco. It already has everything that I need, so I don't have any desire to try any custom ROM, at least for now.
still on stock cause I need VoLTE and VoWiFi, all the custom ROMs and unlocked boot loader seem to break that settings for US T-mobile network
Latest RC build of Dirty Unicorn is the best for me. Best battery life for me.
OOS 4.0.3 with fk kernel gave me really good battery but Dirty Unicorn gave me even better. And trust me, Those guys (DU team) knows how to build a rom.
Stock with franco kernel
Stock as I want Android Pay without faffing about. It's pretty good in terms of customization anyway and I've always run Nova Launcher Prime so whichever ROM I run they always look and function the same primarily.
I'm on FreedomOS as the video camera quality on non-stock based ROMs is pretty crummy. I hoped OP would had put whatever sources or binaries out by now like they said they would, but oh well. Still very happy with the phone.

Help getting started.

Hello. I just bought my brand new Oneplus 3T. I came from the LG G4. I always used custom roms on my android phones. Unfortunately I have a job now and I don't have much time to play/test all these roms around here.
I'm not asking "the best rom" or "which is better" sort of things.
I just need an opinion for what should I begin with?
I would prefer some stock based rom.
As about the kernel I heard a lot about Franco's kernel but I saw that there is Boeffla kernel too.
Don't get me wrong, I just need something to start from because as I mentioned above I don't have much time to test and choose which is best for me.
Thank you!
I have tested many ROM's and I always come to the same conclusion. Stock is better. I recommend you to use stock OOS, root it and mod it as you wish. It's a powerful OS, without much bloatware (which can anyways be easily removed) and it offers a decent amount of customization. Of course, it's not as customizable as RR, but RR is also unstable and doesn't offer the same camera quality. In fact, most ROMs have a crappy camera. Except PA, apparently, which, of course, has other problems, like idle battery drain. You'll find something that won't make you happy in every rom you try. That was, at least, my experience. I have come to the conclusion that OOS does its job well.

This is exactly what I want. I don't want a LineageOS based rom or something like this.
I want a STOCK based rom.
But I don't know with which rom should I start because I saw that there are a few.
Hmm, I'd say freedomOS. It's a very stable ROM, "daily driver" material. It gives you the option to kinda debloat it when you flash the ROM
If you are looking for maximum battery with average use then go for RR with EX Kernel.
Yeah Freedom OS is kind to install because you don't have to do the usual stuff manually, but I've personnaly not noticed anything you can't get on stock OOS.
I'd advice to stay stock, and if later you still want to try some new things there will be plenty of mod material here
If you want something else...try Phoenix AEX ROM..
Really different experience...( EAS based )
Hi, when you are new with this phone I personally would recommend OxygenOpen Beta.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3t/how-to/coming-update-oos-based-7-1-t3564240
This Rom has everything you want, for me absolut stable and has all features you need for normal use. Worth to have a look.
I always had custom Roms on my earlier phones, but this stock Rom is the best I have ever seen. I have unlocked bootloader and rootet phone but since I have my phone (since May) I flashed this Rom and there is no reason for me to change it:angel:

Don't feel like you need to flash a custom ROM, just because you "always have". Try the stock OOS for a bit, you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Stock OOS is very impressive. Very little bloat, really close to stock Android, nice customization options, and it just works. It's a big departure from the manufacturer "skins" applied by LG, Samsung, etc. which often (in my opinion) make too many changes, with little added value.
Although, I would suggest unlocking the bootloader now (instead of waiting) even if you do intend to try out the stock ROM for a while. Sinceit is a bit annoying having your data wiped (by unlocking the bootloader - it can't be avoided) and having to setup everything again, if you do decide to install a custom ROM, kernels, etc.
Stick to OOS. It's the best, really. Sultanxda's lineage is amazing for starters.
And Franco kernel on OOS is also "legendary"
Nevertheless, it's upto you to try and tell yourself what rom/kernel suits your needs.
Cheers!
That's the mistake you use custom roms. I always have stock rom on my every device
Stock open beta 10 with custom kernel(optional to remove dm verity flag) + magisk + safety net pass + adway + google assistant + dark mode.... thats it !

i like the stock rom alot but had to install a custom rom because of a few minor bugs i had. im on lineage now and noticing a decrease in performance. im trying to install a rom thats close to stock as possible

AOSP is literally the most stock experience you can get. Pixel experience comes a close second along with AOSP extended as being close to stock with some handy dandy useful features.
By stock if you meant EUI, then nothing comes close to Eui in terms of looks and features. Miui kinda looks like it. You're better off with smallEui then. Custom ROM , basically an improved version of eui

yeah judging by some of the posts ive read, im looking for eui as other roms that arent eui based seem to have alot of issues. i would love android stock but ill run into more problems going that route. im on smalleui v3 right now and seem to be encountering only a few minor hiccups

Question Back to vanilla rom ~remove TWRP, Root, lock bootloader~

Hey!
Im using custom roms since Galaxy S1 and recently I unlocked the bootloader on my Redmi Note 10 Pro and installed a custom firmware. So far, so good. But honestly I got tired of custom firmware plus the performance is not the same and just want to go back to vanilla. I want to remove TWRP, Root, lock the bootloader and want to go back to my vanilla rom I used in the beginning. How can I accomplish that? Im using the Redmi Note 10 Pro, bought in Germany from Amazon btw but I dont know what version I should download nor how to install it. Through TWRP or fastboot? If so, how?
I havent found anything so far regarding "back to the roots".
Regards
1) https://mi-globe.com/download-xiaomi-mi-flash-tool-all-versions/ - Download the latest Mi Flash tool.
2) https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/miui-updates-tracker-redmi-note-10-pro-pro-max-sweet.4263133/ - Download a Fastboot version of the latest MIUI from this thread. Don't forget to tip the OP for his hard work indexing and maintaining.
3) Extract the .gz file, point MiTool to the directory, select clean all and Lock and you're back to stock and the locked bootloader.
For more details, watch
Just to understand better, what do you mean by " the performance is not the same "?
I, in fact feel ArrowOS has made the experience even smoother than stock, although RAM management could've been much much better but that's an issue even with stock MIUI.
Maybe you haven't tried ArrowOS yet?
I tried the rom from xiaomi.eu. But I run into issues. The overall performance of the rom doesnt keep up with my stock rom. Closing and opening apps didnt look that crisp and are kinda off. I could look into ArrowOS first before gettin back to stock. One question though. Sometimes I get erros regarding data mount in TWRP. Is there a reason for this? Sorry, cant give you the correct error log now, since Im on my way home.
The EEA version is purely made for EU countries right? Since Im from Austria I should get this right?

I recommend to check first arrowos or coltos at least some days before flashing stock and locking bootloader.
In my opinion custom roms are better even there're sometimes some glitches

haha I exactly know what you mean. The .eu roms are pretty over-rated and somehow perform really worse than stock. You should really really try ArrowOS with gapps if you need a custom ROM. It's quite something.

Yes, that is correct.
Thanks man. I tried ArrowOS. It really is slick and fast but I miss some things from MIUI like the many camera settings. I guess Ill keep TWRP, go back to stock rom and use root for the moment. The phone itself is a deal breaker for the money you spend. I just missed using adblockers and root.
Thanks alot
You could use magisk and the ANX Camera module on ArrowOS too, if you miss the Camera so much, just saying.
Disclaimer: Not paid by @daniml3 . Just a fan xD
All the best man!
Xiaomi eu is highly overrated yes. Performance is always worse than stock on any given firmware. Not just app opening and closing but general smoothness in apps too.
Pixel Experience is usually good and runs very smooth on my Mi Note 10.
Does any of the custom ROM's for this phone have the sound settings from stock ROM? Options for headphones, EQ and those things?
Ive seen it yeah... Xiaomi.eu seems highly overrated. But so far ArrowOS gave me the best feeling. Slim, fast and great performance. But as I said I still miss some apps from MIUI like the camera app to completely access all aspects of the camera. For now I stick with Vanilla and Root. But Ill definetely look into ArrowOS again.
