HI guys,
so I've been running on Stock for a while before switching to LineageOS and then OmniROM. I have to say that OmniROM delievers far more superior performance than LineageOS or even stock ROM. I have 140 apps installed on my Nexus, 30 of which run constantly in the background.
There's just one problem that I frequently encountered on all ROMs: SystemUI's crashing, randomly turning off (I mean completely of and not even trying the least to reboot).
You guys who have used Lineage, Stock, Omni and/or other ROMs, what are your experiences so far? With which ROM are you most pleased? I'd love to hear your opinions!

My Nexus 6 out of the box did not work a whole day. Say 7 - 22 h.
Tried custom Roms, but still battery life problems, mainly caused by the screen and navigation.
The following helped me to use the N6 a whole day:
Flashed a prerooted lite stock ROM.(Danvdh)
Flashed Franco's kernel.
Decrypted the data partition.
Replaced apps with a white background by apps with a dark theme. F.i. no G-mail but Aquamail.
Replaced G-launcher with Nova Launcher.
Where possible use of blacked out apps of the TBO-team.
My N6 is fast and works in general the whole day without recharge.

You Nexus must run so smoothly then. I have my 16100mAh battery with me all day long so battery isn't a problem for me (Trust me, just laying in my pocket makes my Nexus last 5 hours max already.)
RR with EX kernel is amazing combination with excellent battery life

A battery with more capacity would be logical in devices with a 5 to 6'' amoled display.
What I've seen is the use of (Google) apps in combination with a light background is a real problem for the Nexus 6.
Hello,
Using Pure Nexus + SuperSU + EX Kernel. Using this setup on N6, N6P and Pixel XL. I used to flash ROMs every day a few years ago. But now, kids take all my time, so I tried a few and finally kept Pure Nexus.
Just enough customization for me. Pixel look and features. I use my N6 mostly for web browsing since I switched to a new device...
Also using theme ready gapps which allow stock Google apps theming properly + domination theme (which is a black theme) helps a little bit with battery. Here is what most apps look like (check attached screenshots). I don't like white UI by the way.
Theme ready thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/apps-themeable-hangouts-layers-cmte-t3113192
Cheers...

Wow, thanks. Very detailed. Appreciate the info.
May have to try it out.

As a sequel to my Cyanogen Nighlies thread, I thought it appropriate to create a celebratory post linking to the stable release of 6.1.0 for the Droid Incredible.
Please reply with your experiences, inquiries, and love for one of the smoothest, rock solid ROMs available for your device. I am also open to ideas about what else to include in this OP including links to themes, juicy nuggets of relevant info, or known issues (should we find any that are repeatable).
For now, please enjoy this excellent release, and kick a few pennies up to Koush. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
Download link (or just grab it from ROM Manager):
http://mirror.teamdouche.net/?device=inc&type=stable
Known issues:
-Cyanogen default auto brightness adjusts only once, so moving from light to dark results in protracted dim settings.
-While disconnected from the charger, trackball wake will intermittently fail. This is a known bug and has been filed as such.
-Flash Test does not do anything for applications that don't have a customized setting. It should still blink using the systemwide default green when a real event comes in.
Solution Sets/Workarounds:
To install the new Market and avoid FCs:
1) settings-applications-manage and delete cache for the market
2) wipe cache
3) wipe dalvik cache

"Best" is certainly a relative term, however my personal preference for both speed and battery life is invisiblek's AOSP kernel.

Incredibleks. Best Kernel ever. Seriously, for AOSP Roms, it is the choice. Seriously, overclocking on a snapdragon is pretty pointless. The speed differences are pretty much non-existent.
op link is messed up. you got an emoticon stuck in it
wow.. it took a while but nice to see it make final.. seemed like it was never gonna make it past rc status
I'm on 17 and love it but it appears that different kernels are acting differently on different phones. I was on 18 for a while an noticed that battery life wasn't as great and went back to 17, while other people said that 18 was better than 17 on their phone. Now 19 is out and if you look at the last couple of pages half the posts say that 19 is the best yet for battery and the other half is reporting ridiculous battery loss. You're probably best off getting the most recent one listed on the first post (#18).
Great ROM. I was running the nightly for literally a day only to come back at night and see a stable. This + the Gingerbread theme + Gingerbread Launcher will hold me over until the source drops for GB and we get a port
L.E.D don't work when getting text,mail,etc... other then that runs smooth. Thanx for all the hard work u guys put into these!
One question I have is this: I know how to remove the status bar widgets, but after doing so I'm stuck with that blank space normally occupied by the Verizon Wireless banner. Is there a way to put that back in there so there isn't that gap?
Odd that I want it back I know, but some things I'm just anal about.
Is there anyway to make it so that when you unlock and turn off the screen its instant instead of the fade out effect?

What's wrong with the stock kernel? Invisiblek are very solid but going to give koush's stock kernel a try.
On a side note, does anyone know if the stock kernel has smart ass governor on it?
Optical pad wake
Is anyone else having a problem with the optical pad wake only working once in a while? It always works if the phone is charging but if it isn't charging it's like a 30/70 chance of it working. It seems to work if you hold it down for like 5-10 seconds but that sucks.
Does anyone know how to make it so when I install this ROM all of my apps do not auto reinstall from the market...? My old wallpaper from an AOSP i had like 4 months ago still pops up as default also!
Even if I select "do not backup apps with google" it does not work. I have also tried formatting my SD card, and phone storage to no avail...
I want to install this, but everytime I have installed an AOSP ROM and then a theme, it goes haywire because there is some sort of backup file I can't find.

There's a bug report for this but no one has been able to fix it. I believe it's the trackpad sleeping when not on the charger.
Sometimes a long press and then a short one works.. sometimes it just works.. other times you have to hold it until the screen comes on..
My power button is broken so I live with the press and hold..

Hello,
I generally don't like these kind of the questions as I always prefer to explore the Development section to try out the roms myself but I'm currently on vacation and a relative asked me to help her speed up her Galaxy S Advance. I just don't have time to spend a day flashing roms.
So, what I'm looking for is a fast and stable rom. Don't care if it's not KitKat and "only" JellyBean or if it ain't the fastest either. I suppose it's going to be AOSP/CM based as I doubt any TouchWiz Rom will do.
Any suggestion ?
Thank you !
Also, it needs to be fully functional...

This kind of question is not allowed, but in this special case only...
Search for CM 10.1 build 20131117 if you want something really stable, incredibly fast and with awesome battery life.
Or search for CM 10.2, use latest build available. Less battery life but nothing big.
Stay away from KitKat ROMs if she needs long battery life.
You can find ROMs on our Dev-Host, under janice folder
For that CM 10.1 build search in its thread.

Thank you very much, I'll look into the 10.1 build!
May be I am late. But one should check out carbon Rom kitkat 4.4.4 by Flo0008 if they want a fast and battery friendly and bugless and most stable Rom. It gives me 7+ hours of continuous web browsing in 3g for a 2 year old battery. (nearly 8 hours off total screen on before getting low battery warning). Awesome.

@rajag33
7~8 (and less than seven) hours of screen on are totally impossible on this device, unless you install CM10.1 and heavy modify some things. Even less if a kitkat ROM, even less if your battery is 2 years old, even less if you count that other kitkat ROMs don't last more than 3/3.30 hours screen on and all these ROMs come from one only device tree, the Team Canjica one!
I think that here in this forum I'm the only one (or almost) that reached more than 7 hours of screen on time with original battery and using CM10.1 with a lot of mods. And trust me, it's impossible in any other way

@AntaresOne I am not always getting 7+ hours (may be once or twice) But definitely getting 6+ hours of web browsing (with a white browser background). I have achieved it even today. For me kitkat is always more battery friendly when compared to stock jellybean. I will post my screen time screenshots when I get time. I particularly want to mention that with abyssplug governor, most of the time cpu frequency idles at 100mhz. I am motoring it with cooltools module. May be that's a reason.
BTW, I have never flashed cm 10.x. All I have tried was, Jetmod, Resurrection remix, liquid smooth, slimkat and dirty unicorns. But I am settling with Carbon kitkat.
Additional info: sync off, wifi off, google backup off, freezed launcher 3, Google contacts sync, Auto brightness off, screen set to bare minimum brightness, Google play auto update and update notifications off, zram off, ksm off, empty_apps minfree set to 150.
All animation scales set to 0.15x, lcd_density set to 182.
xposed running, seeder running, using adaway.
No live wallpaper, using a pitch black wallpaper sized just 256.00 bytes and apex launcher.
50+ user apps installed. Most resource intensive processes running most of the time are com.andrioid.systemui and ds.cpuoverlay(cooltools module).

Right now my battery is almost full. I will post my screenshots after using for a while normally with screen on browsing and when my battery is low.
By the way, I am not using the carbon final build. Because, hover is removed from that build. I am using the pre final build 19. Carbon is rock solid for me. The only thing that was not working was magnetic sensor. But after calibration using advanced tools pro magnetic sensor working fine.
In the past I did used a lot of init.d scripts, mods, supercharger script and whatever that can be found in the internet. The only thing that gave me some performance boost was crossbreeder. But I am tired of them all and now using no mods or scripts.

My battery lasted 7 hours on CM10.1 without disabling these things and with wifi on all the day. Somewhere in this forum there's the screenshot:

90+ user apps (6.44GB /data partition and 32GB /sdcard swapped)

I am not stressing you but you may try crossbreeder script latest from here:forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2113150 (If you already know about it, then ignore). Also download his entropy app and turn on all three switches and reboot once. Do note that it will disable other entropy related apps automatically(seeder will not run - as it is not required).

Sorry for disturbing you, but my question is will any conflict occur in flashing stock JB, because of the partition sizes differing from stock rom. (If I understand correctly, enabling repartition will automatically reformat the disk sizes and the modified partition table will get reset- RIGHT?)

Repartition is not intended to be used on any stock-based ROM, but only on custom ROMs (4.2-4.3-4.4), read OP in that thread for better infos. Enabling repartition will restore stock EMMC's GPT resetting any kind of modification. Using Odin's repartition option along with correct PIT file (in that thread there are PITs for i9070/i9070p 8/16GB models) it's safe, don't worry

I didn't try latest version.
But in evolution everything is good with many customisation
Gcam 6.2 works so well
I had 3 problem with it
Camera crashes after opening it for 10 - 15 times or when enabling face unlock(needs reboot)
Unable to send WhatsApp audio
My battery standby is poor (i used extensively for 3 years)
If you want most stable then go for stock(good if you debloat it) or small eui or try Android 6 or 7 roms. But you cant use gcam 6+ over there

I recently found a video from YouTube, where they used adb from pc to disable the bloatware. But you have to root the device to completely uninstall it, though it backfires sometimes and crashes system apps frequently.
Small eui is better(no bloatware) but it has aggressive ram and battery management so there are some issues like notification arriving late and longer background apps reloading time and also unable to customise the icons for default launcher

AOD not displaying any relevant notifications, awful notifications in general, Android System using the most battery(though this might be just me), bloatware(removed it via ADB but still), automatic brightness randomly blinding me at night in bed.
I put Nova Launcher just to bypass some of the horrendous stuff MIUI has.

Just removing the bloatwares will do for a while. But if you're gonna ask for a custom rom. It's good to install LineageOS. I've been using that ROM since I was in Zenfone2.
PixelROM has still too much bugs. And I think all the custom roms will be stable after a year.
I haven't found any custom rom to be stable unfortunately.
Miui 11 is a tad better than Miui 10. But not by much. It's still got the terrible notification system, poor recents layout and overly complicated settings (thank god for search).

Most of the ROMs are stable, however none are without some minor issues, but nothing that stops them being used as a daily. Couldn't comment on all of them, but it looks like the Oxygen OS ROM is the only unusable ROM.
There are a few that are all at a similar level, with PE being just one of them.
My suggestion is look at the ROM threads that are the most active, as they're going to be the ones with the most users, which implies they're the ones with the least bugs. After that it's personal preference as to which you choose.
Unfortunately there isn't a perfect camera solution for custom ROMs yet.
To get the best out of it, you will probably need both GCam and ANX camera installed, as both aren't perfect, but their issues don't overlap much, so between them you get almost everything covered. There are many threads that discuss which versions of each work best.

They have fixed the notifications on AOD and I agree with the bloatware problem and automatic brightness problem. Battery life is better in miui11, at least for me.
I think the most stable 3rd party rom for this device is either LOS16 or Pixel Experience based on 9. I think they will soon all move to android 10 (Official builds) before 2020. But I haven't tried any of them.

Don't want to switch to a rom where stuff randomly stops working, so basically it has to be almost perfect. I guess Pixel Experience is the best currently? Does Google Camera work on every rom exactly like it does on MIUI?
Give me your suggestions!

Try this one https://forum.xda-developers.com/k20-pro/development/rom-evolution-x-2-2-t3975157 it is as PE but much better.
I used to use Nova launcher all the time but haven't for a few years since they were doing a major re-write.
How is it these days? Is there any functionality / limitations still on Android 12 / ColorOS12?
Main reason i want to switch is that the home-screen folders are a bit inefficient for my taste and also the notifications don't expand with a pull down (on the notification itself) you have to click the little arrow ... minor niggles but since i own Nova Prime i was just wondering if anyone's using it and how it is with the major new version?
No limitations, as far as I can see in this 5 day of use.
Agreed it seems fine although I found it a little laggy compared to stick launcher.
Also when switching back to stick I have to uninstall the Nova Google companion app and reboot the phone before Google page worked again

Agreed -- there's a subtle amount of lack when returning to the home and then trying to go into something else ... enough to be a little annoying. Might stick w/ stock launcher. I have a thing about anything that causes lag ... really don't like it -- just me tho
I stopped using it when the gestures stopped working properly. That was around android 10 is that not still the case? Thanks
