Hey Everyone,
It's become kinda obvious now that i really need to change out all my old 1A chargers for 2A chargers now.
The one that comes with the phone is nice - if I didn't need the adapter to go with it. Now it's huge and chunk.
I'd like a pretty small charger, like the wonderful 1A TC U260 I got with my mytouch 4g.

Can I use another USB cable with the original note 2 charger and still get 2A from it? I feel like the USB cables for my sgs2 fit better in my note 2 than the one that comes with it.
none of those car chargers will work if you plan on using the phone

I have done a lot of research on this. If it is compatible with ANY apple products then it will not charge with your cable due to the USB standard not being the same. You will have to either mod the product or the cable to get the full 2a charge. Plus I believe the Powergen and the griffin are only 2a total output so if you are charging 2 devices it will only be 1a and 1a ports. You need to look for a 4a total output. I have yet to find any that work. If anyone can find one please let me know. Charging with a 1a charge and using a GPS you will lose power as it does not charge fast enough. You need a full 2a. p.s. had to remove the outside links because I havent posted 10x yet.

This is not quite true.
I believe Apple only has high speed charging if you don't use an 'apple' USB port, similar to how you don't get high speed charging if you use a USB data cable versus a charging cable.
To be 100% I don't understand how it works exactly.
I can tell you, however, the following:
1) My Griffin charger happily charged my galaxy note even going full blast (GPS/bluetooth/screen on), and I bought some iphone chargers to help my friends out, and they charged their phones (slowly) with my charger too.
2) The powergen 10W charger I put above also happily (and quickly) charges my Note II going full blast.
It actually has a different 'Apple' vs 'non apple' USB port. Non-apple stuff may not charge in the apple slot, but that's not a big deal to me. I have only one phone. My iphone friends are usually the ones running out of power anyway, so it's kind of nice one side is applely.

I have many 2a carchargers that worked great with a gs3 even an iPad that won't provide enough juice to the note to actually charge it while doing intensive tasks like mhl out in the car.
if anyone finds a car charger that actually works post it out we need a fast charge custom kernel.
I have a thread in the general note Sprint forum thatwe are discussing this as well and it seems no charger will work but an adapter I'm waiting on May

One Car Charger that works

Whether a charger works or not depends on what DCP (Direct Charge Port) modes it supports.
I suspect the GN2 uses Shorted DCP, where the USB data lines (D+ and D-) are shorted. Apple chargers sense 2.4Vdc on these lines to allow the charger to ramp to full current. Asus and some Sammy TABs use 1.2Vdc to enable full current. This is to distinguish real USB ports from chargers, and to "encourage" you to use the manufacturer's provided charger.
It would be nice if someone can confirm what DCP mode the GN2 actually uses. Not that the charger manufacturer's publish what modes they support.... However, the charger IC manufacturer's (TI, Maxim) are beginning to get good at DCP autodetection which is going to make it much easier for us consumers.
As far as finding chargers that work,
I bought a 2.1A dual car charger at Walmart, model "i-xt" that works well with the GN2 and is listed as "on AC" when connected. Implying full current.

You don't have to worry about your phone being damaged. Phones have built-in protection for over-voltage and over current. 5Vdc is proper voltage for USB devices anyway (Output 5V, as listed in the specs). The catch is if the phone allows full current charging. That depends on the DCP mode of the charger. I'm not positive what mode the GN2 truly supports. If you already have the charger, you can determine if full current is being used by checking under settings -> battery while connected to the charger. If you see the "On AC" verbiage, the phone is in full current mode. If not, the charger is limiting to 500ma and acts like a standard USB port. You phone will still charge, but it will take longer.

So I understand the shorting D+/D- internally or via charging cable to enable "AC" charging. I understand that Apple and apparently Sammy/Asus use voltage on those lines to signal the requirement for full current. Here's my question: if my Note2 is connected to brand X charger and it says AC charging in the settings under battery, does that mean I am theoretically pulling the max current of that brand X charger. This of course assumes the battery is empty enough, temperatures of the battery and charger are low enough, etc...
What I'm getting at is does having a shorted charger or cable with an android on an iCharger give us full iPower? Gawd that sounds horrible doesn't it! :silly: Or, if you're getting "AC" from the iCharger is it really only 1.1A or 1.6A (just tossing those numbers out there) vice the 2.1A it would be charging an iPad at?

Has anyone tried these chargers that claim 2.1A per USB port? Or does anyone know of any similar car chargers that charge 2 devices @ 2.1A?
I just want to buy the best charger that isn't going to blow up my phone, and a dual charger would be excellent if possible.

It sounds like with that particular device, in order to get an Android phone to charge at an AC rate is to either modify the charger (through soldering) to short out the data pins or use a USB charge-only cable (DIY modification of an existing cable or purchased one). The Android phone should then see the charger as AC instead of USB for, hopefully, full and faster rate of charge.
I know you are looking for dual port, each with 2.1A - but I wouldn't hold my breath this one will output dual 2.1A without throttling down one of the ports. Its impossible to fit quality circuit in a small cigarette lighter package where due to excess heat the efficiency of your converter will decrease. And even if they manage to produce 4.2A you will either blow your fuse or melt your charger. Just think about it, you won't have any air circulation to even cool it down.
I only trust dual port chargers with 2.1A/1A rating. I reviewed one before - HERE from iSmooth which does work! Also, to my surprise, iSmooth charger was actually made for iPad/iPhone but it WORKS perfectly with Note 2. I can't voucher for other Apple converters, and as a matter of fact I have another one with a separate Apple and Android ports and Note 2 doesn't charge from Apple port. But the one from iSmooth I'm using right now works perfectly for Note 2 and also looks awesome in the car with a blue glow light

Thanks for compiling this. I emailed Anker about the Astro Pro2 ad unfortunately it does not support Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0. They said that PowerIQ is different and doesn't charge as fast. I think the only ones that will do Fast Charge are ones certified as such.

which is faster, 9v 1.67 amps or 5v 2 amps? also, anyone come across a powerbank that has wireless charging AND fast charging?
one question that it seams i dont find in numerous searches i did, does the wall adapter from samsung lights any green light when starts to give fast charging? because i did see something similar but maybe was not the samsung wall charger.

The supplied Sammy charger no, Tenergy does have the blue (standard charge) green (quick charge) led, possibly others.

I have a Mophie, Powerbrick XL (12,000 ah) or something or other. Not cheap but it puts out 2.4X2.4 (two usb outputs) simultaneously. As I said not cheap but telling the ol lady her phone will have to die while she watches mine charge on the airplane is simply not a place I want to visit.

I believe it has to be a "charge and sync" cable. I have some charge only cables that came with small micro-USB powered devices that fail to fast charge, but a generic USB cable does. The charge-only cables don't need to pass data because the devices they came with only use them for power so it looks like you have to have the data lines intact.
I also got some nice micro-USB cables at Best Buy that have nice LED lights in them. The Pt brand one with just an LED light at the micro-USB end was able to fast charge, but got extremely hot. The other brand (Modal) that had LED lights all along the length of it failed to fast charge. I'm guessing that either the drain of all of those LEDs or the fact that they are powered by a chip on one end of the cable means that they force the USB connection to only supply the basic power. Both are going back to BB.
I found a nice USB "charge and sync" cable at Walgreens that spring coils into a housing (the round housing has a regular USB plug coming out one side and a micro USB plug coming out the other end and if you pull on them they extend equally - pull again and they retract together to lie flush with the housing). That one does fast charge. It is replacing (along with a cheap 2.4amp car charger that was almost as fast as an QC2.0 charger) an old cheap retractable car charger that I used to use on trips that failed to even keep up with the power drain of navigation on the S6edge or my S5. The retractable cable is not listed on Walgreens web site and I found it behind the photo counter in a bin of USB chargers and cables.

The Walgreens web site shows other E-filliate brand cables in bright colors, but not this one. It was not in the case with the other phone accessories, it was behind the photo counter in a plastic bin full of an assortment of colorful chargers and cables that looked like the kind of thing you'd find on the counter next to a checkout stand. It's only 2 feet long fully extended, but it packs nicely. Unless you are looking for something that packs away nicely without tangling, I would think you might find some nicer and cheaper cables elsewhere, although this one was only $10.
I'd buy the Anker. Can't go wrong with them.
My own issue is I have too many of them!
Got the 15Ah on sale for $30 earlier this year.
That new one is 20Ah, ridiculous capacity!
But needed on excursions with ipads, etc.
Not a big deal if it doesn't charge as fast. I'm tempted to buy it and use galaxy charge current and compare rates with the included wall charger. Of course current doesn't mean squat if we don't know what rail it's on, i.e. 1.5A at 9V is better than 2V at 5V.

I have 3 different quick chargers around and none of them charge at a different rate with the different cables I have laying around except for the long cables. I use them generically between the chargers, pc, various devices.
As to the long cables (3 plus meter) charge times slow down on the few I've tried. Not huge but noticeable.

There are 2 things to note here. The phone will say whether or not it is fast charging and it will also show a prediction for how long it will take to get 100%. You can actually get a reasonably quick "time to full" estimate on a basic charger that supplies higher amperage, but I believe you will only get the "10 minutes for 4 hours" boost from an actual QC2.0 accessory that successfully negotiates the QC protocol with the charger. The QC2.0 protocol involves not just higher amperage, but higher voltage, which likely makes the difference for that boost.
So, when you say you have 3 different "quick chargers" around, do you mean "officially Qualcomm QuickCharge 2.0 accessories", or a charger that is higher amperage than normal and so uses the words quick and charge on the box.
Having said that, I've seen basic 2+ amp chargers that are fairly common where the phone predicts a total charge time to 100% that is very close to what I get on the adaptive charger or whenever the phone claims it is fast charging (only ever on an official QC2.0 accessory with the right cable). I think the only real difference is offering the initial boost of 4 hours for 10 minutes, but in the long run "actual QC 2.0" is not that much better than any high amperage charger for a full charge because the charge rate is not linear as the phone approaches 100%. This is the same reason why DC charging for EVs never lists the time to full because they'll get you to 50-80% in half an hour and then take another 2 hours to get you to 100%. The speed enabled by the high voltage is only an initial boost and matters little for a full charge.
The reason I would want an actual QC2.0 charger for the car or for an external battery pack is that I often jump in the car for a 10 minute trip when I'm getting low and it would be nice to get a significant charge during that time. With an external battery, having QC2.0 would mean less time having to keep the phone tethered to a brick. Otherwise, if you are only looking for a full charge then an official QC2.0 vs a high amperage charger isn't that big of a deal.
I'm an engineer. I have three qualcomm quick charge 2.0 chargers, one Oppo charger with their competing (and better ) technology, and uncounted random chargers from unknown past phones. Some more potent and some less. Yes, each of those qualcomm quick chargers will respond to the embedded controller on the phone and provide quick charging, the phone will note such when plugged in and notify to that effect. Yes, they make quick charge 2.0 car chargers and I also have one of those and yes it charges at the same rate as the 120 chargers in the house.

That's great. Keep in mind that the only reason I asked is that there are plenty of packages out there that use the term "quick charge" in a generic sense and so I usually specify QC2.0 when I mean QC2.0 to differentiate.
But, back to the original question - you were indicating that all of the USB cables you have tried all seemed to charge at the same rate. I will reiterate that I have found micro USB cables that do not pass QC2.0 and the phone will back off to a nominal rate when they are used. Usually the cable is special in some way, for example:
two cables that I believe came with my Chromecast - they have one of those "ferrite core" style bulges in the wire (pictured below) and were only originally intended to provide minimal USB power to the Chromecast (no data)
a Modal LED lighted "charge and sync" cable from Best Buy - since the LEDs animate to show power flow, there are obviously some electronics in the plug/wire to sequence them, and whether or not that was the reason, they did in fact prevent QC2.0 from engaging (the phone did not show a "fast charging" status).
As such, I'd look for cables that include both "charge and sync" (most do) and I'd avoid anything active in the cable, like an LED light. Having said that, the Pt brand lighted cable (also from BB) that has just a solid white LED only at the micro USB end did seem to allow fast charging, but it got very hot so I didn't really like it in the end - but it does show that there are some non-passive USB cables that will still work with QC2.0.
Chromecast cable:
I went to a couple of Samsung shops here in Taiwan and they were out of those new chargers for fast charge. They were only selling the regular chargers from before. Salesmen also said he heard something about the new chargers causing damage to the smartphone (sensors). He was not sure he said but has heard about this issue. He could not confirm for sure said but he was pretty sure.

The Walgreens web site shows other E-filliate brand cables in bright colors, but not this one. It was not in the case with the other phone accessories, it was behind the photo counter in a plastic bin full of an assortment of colorful chargers and cables that looked like the kind of thing you'd find on the counter next to a checkout stand. It's only 2 feet long fully extended, but it packs nicely. Unless you are looking for something that packs away nicely without tangling, I would think you might find some nicer and cheaper cables elsewhere, although this one was only $10.

Frys has a large selection of retractable micro USB cables. I picked up a 2-pack of 3 foot cables yesterday and the phone indicates "fast charging" on them:

Longer than the Walgreens cable and cheaper for 2 of them, but the cables on the Walgreens model seem a little beefier (which is likely why they only fit 2' of cord in the same retractable package).
I bought the Anker without reading the description well enough. :silly: It arrived and is almost the size of a Tablet! I returned it. So, don't be "underachieving Rob Lowe" and carefully READ before you buy!

I got the Anker E6 and it's a beastly size, but it completely charged my S6, from 5%, in ONE HOUR! I'll deal with the weight!

So I am back again asking about power.
Since switching to my Nexus 5x I have had to redo all of my power supplies. I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the Google wall options but now I have a request for something portable.
What I am looking for is a battery pack that can output the 3amps to quickly charge the phone, I dont really care if it charges quickly itself. The reason being is I have a solar panel that can push 1-2 amps and I was planning on strapping it to the back of the bike or leaving it on the tent to charge the battery over time and then using the battery to charge the phone.

I have an Anker Powercore 21000mAH external battery, using a USB A to C cable, Ampere reports charge rates up to approx 1700mAH. The lock screen reports charging rapidly.
The cable is a Pecham one, It appears to be good quality, nice and thick, braided cable and a positive fit at the 5x end. I was happy with the charging speed, having just read the google cable reviews thread not so sure.....

I own the Romoss Solo5, outputs at 2.1a and 1.5a. With a normal type C cable from CableMatters, I don't get rapid charging, but it does fill up faster than a generic usb charger.

Ill be curious to see what you get. My concern is they dont mention the specific output of the ports, just the overall 3 amp. I suspect its split across teh two ports in some fashion like most (where they can do 2 amps on a single port but then 1.5 across both)
I have a 2 amp charger but I am hoping for a 3 to get that max performance. The idea is I could use the phone for music, navigation, etc on the motorcycle and then get a very quick top up while breaking for lunch, etc.
You need a type C connector at both ends.
A USB type-C to type-A cable cannot and should not allow charging at more than 2A (0.5A for USB 2.0 standard), because that is the most allowed in the USB spec as mentioned by the Google engineer that's been reviewing Type-C cables on Amazon. In order to support 3A rapid charging you would need a battery pack with a type-C port on it that supports rapid charging. Even if a type-A port is capable of supplying 3+ amps, the phone will only charge at up to about 1.7A without the type-C port at both ends. I don't know of any battery packs that support the type-C spec yet, although I'm sure they're coming.
That is why I am asking. I dont care if it charges itself at 3amps because my sources wouldnt provide that anyway. Im looking for the battery pack itself to pump out 3 amps. Im holding out for one of those and until then I will work along with my existing ones.

Neat thing about this, you can use the OEM 5v 3a charger to charge it. Interesting to see if it charges faster than other options.
mysterious posted in the other thread that he/she ordered it. Im waiting with baited breath to hear the results. This might be the perfect all-rounder (dont really need the other ports but they dont hurt anything).
Could charge with my solar panels, could charge with the stock adapter and hopefully the phone quickly on a lunch break.
I love how none of these products ship to Canada, except the official Google stuff which is no out of stock.

Tronsmart 3 Port 42W Quick Charge 2.0 Wall Travel Charger
Overview
I have accumulated a lot of devices that for better or worse need to be charged during the day sometimes all at once. For this reason, I usually carry a small battery pack or multi-port wall charger, along with some cables, adapters, and various other things. Tronsmart made a nice compact wall charger that is ideal for people who travel or on the go. I usually have a mullti-port charger or two at home (Tronsmart Titan 90W 5 port hub on my desk), and another multi-port hub on my nightstand. I always need more ports for one reason or another hence why I like having the most compact, powerful chargers that I can.

Tronsmart makes one of my favorite looking chargers out there. The edges have a glossy finish to them that leads you into matte colored body. On one side you will see Tronsmart’s logo along with a small LED light that will light up to indicate when you’re charging. If you look at the opposite side the rated inputs/outputs for each port are specified along with a label for which ports have VoltIQ, and QC 2.0. One of the best features of this charger besides its 3 ports is the folding plug which makes it ideal for traveling/on the go.
Charging
The Quick Charge 2.0 port will allow you to charge any compatible QC 2.0 enabled device at a range of voltages/rates depending on how low the battery is. I was able to charge my S7 Edge at 9V/1.67A just like the stock Samsung Adaptive Fast Charger does. Since the S7 Edge is only rated for 9V/1.67A (15.03W) it won’t charge at a faster rate than that no matter how powerful the charger. The other two ports use VoltIQ which is another way of saying it will tell the device to charge at it’s maximum 5V rate up to 2.4A. I tested this with my S7 Edge and was able to get ~5V/1.7A which is the same output as the factory charger at the battery level I tested. Since this charger is rated for 42W which means each port can output its maximum rate simultaneously for maximum charging efficiency with multiple devices.

QC 2.0: 5V/2A, 9V/2A, 12V/1.5A
2x Standard Port (with VoltIQ): 5V/2.4A each
Summary
This is yet another great charger from Tronsmart (I have a lot of others that were reviewed as well) that has a nice overall design. This charger has a lot to offer in a small package coupled with a solid build that should last for a long time.
Tronsmart 4 Port Quick Charge 2.0 54W Car Charger
Overview
There is always a time that I need to charge things as I mentioned above when outlets are limited. I have a dash camera in my car that occupies one of my power outlets, so I only have 1 other easily accessible place to plug in a charger. When I go on road trips it’s nice to be able to charge my phone as well as my wife’s along with a tablet or two thanks to the wide array of ports offered with this charger.

The charger is made from plastic, but it has a nice texture to it just like the tri-port wall charger. I’ve owned and used another Tronsmart car charger (Type-C/Type-A) since December without any issues. It has really come in handy over the past couple of months thanks to its versatility, just like this one will. While this charger is quite large it packs a punch with its 4 ports while still compact for what it offers. It’s not easy to fit a large number of ports in a charger that has to fit in a confined area, but I like the overall way Tronsmart designed this one. I had no issues fitting the charger in my car, and using all of the ports, but that depends on where your outlet is located.
Charging
I tested each of the ports simultaneously with 3 of my phones, and a battery pack to ensure the charger worked as intended. I had no issues charging all 4 devices from the charger making this ideal for anyone that needs to make use of their car charger.

Summary

Tronsmart 36W Dual Port Quick Charge 2.0 Car Charger
Overview
This charger is a much more compact, but still versatile dual port QC 2.0 enabled (on both ports) car charger. The overall quality/materials remain the same as the previous 4 port car charger which is a good thing. I switched from my Type-C/Type-A 33W car charger to this one in order to see how it works, and because I can still charge both my S7 Edge and Nexus 6P from it. So far over the past couple days of using this one I haven’t encountered any issues, but I will update the OP if I do.

The ports are colored (green or blue usually indicate QC 2.0 on Tronsmart chargers) while the back ports are the standard VoltIQ. For this particular one, both ports are green which is indicative of a QC 2.0 charger. There is ample spacing between both ports to accommodate any size cable that I have including: Tronsmart, Choetech, Aukey, Samsung, Google, i-Orange, Asus, Anker and many others. I haven’t found a set of cables that won’t work side-by-side in this charger. Unlike other chargers, this one doesn’t sit flush with the outlet which to me is a good thing. I always find it hard to remove the chargers that don’t protrude slightly, so I appreciate that part of the design.
Charging
Each port is capable of a 18W output which is the maximum you will ever need on a QC 2.0 enabled device. The S7 Edge can only take 15.03W (9V/1.67A), so this charger will fast charge it at the same rate as the Samsung Adaptive Fast Charger. I tested both ports with my multi-meter to ensure they lived up to their ratings.

Summary
I have no issues with the overall design or build of this car charger, plus with the added versatility of a second QC 2.0 port it has a lot to offer. Not all chargers offer their full power output while charging multiple devices, but thankfully this one does. I don’t see any reason not to recommend it because it’s been great.
Tronsmart Micro USB Cable 6 Pack (20AWG)
Overview
I always need more cables because for some reason I either misplace them, or forget to bring them with me. I like how Tronsmart offers a large pack of cables (6 in this set) in varying sizes depending on what you might need. I usually keep the shortest one (1[ft]) in my backpack to go along with an external battery pack I carry with me. The longer ones usually find their way onto my desk or night stand because it’s nice to have the extra length so I can keep all of my devices separate & not clustered together while charging.

Build & Design
These cables have a larger gauge wire (20AWG) which should decrease the resistance thus allowing for less current drop in the longer variants. The connectors work well with any of my 10+ S7E cases, and they are slightly smaller physically than the Samsung one. You won’t have any issues bending these like some higher gauge cables which makes wrapping them up for storage easy.
Charging
I tested each cable length via my multi-meter to see if there was any current/voltage drop while charging my phone. I did not see any measurable drop even for the longer 6[ft] cable, so you should be able to fast charge your phone with any of them without sacrificing cable length.
Summary
I’ve actually owned a pack of these for a while now before receiving this set, and I’ve enjoyed using them. I haven’t had any of them break, fail, or otherwise suffer from flaws during my 5 months using the previous set. I enjoy the large variety of sizes offered because it allows you use a cable that suits your needs rather than one that’s too long/short.

Gold-plated cables seems high-end, I will search and try one of those chargers & cables.
yes it is a pity that XDA doesn't like to paste the links in the topics but what if we would google them and find them ebay or amazon and they are clones or fake.
so when connected in the car with 12V it gives 1.5A to instead of 2.4A?
Is this as good as the ones from Aukey?

The cables are all still working great; I have them in various areas to charge my numerous devices, headphones etc.

It is unfortunate, and as much as I would like to post them I can't without having the OP get locked like some others I've written up. Even when I buy products and link them it raises flags for some reason, bht thags neither here nor there
The input rating if the charger is different than the output. I charged a AC 2.0 batter pack at 12V/1.5A which is the highest 12V rate that the charger is rated for. I have a Power Partners 30W single port QC 2.0 charger somewhere that will output somewhere around that in terms of the 12V but I've never tested it.
so when used in a car with 12v sigarette lighter plug it will never get higher then 1.5A or is it only this one? Are there other chargers that get more amps though that 12v port then this one?
The reason I ask is because when my phone is connected to the 12v car charger it does not get charged while using it with max brightness, gps, 4g, 2 or 3 apps at the same time, ...

As I mentioned the input current will be at 12V from the car, but it can also output at 12V via the QC standard. I can charge 2 phones (1 on each port with multimeters connected) to see he max current I can draw which should be the rated 33W if I recall correctly.
