I was trying to recover some pictures that apparently deleted themselves or maybe I somehow deleted without myself realizing it. The phone is not rooted and from some of the posts, it seems like I will need to root it to gain access to recover the files. But I am fearing that the rooting process would wipe out some of the pictures that may still be in the memory. What would be my best way to proceed here?
Thanks!
You need an unlocked bootloader to root your device. Unlocking your bootloader will wipe all your internal storage...

Hi guys, I made kind of a boo boo while unlocking the bootloader for my M7. So here's what happened, I received an update notification OTA so I had to relock my bootloader and install a stock recovery. No problems so far, here's where I make my fatal mistake.. I used titanium backup to backup my data and stuff but completely forgot that unlocking the bootloader does a complete wipe, I thought it was only a minor wipe where it keeps the internal storage data. So I update OTA, unlock the bootloader, flash custom recovery and root it and BAM! all my stuff is gone, nothing in my internal storage! I'm so mad with myself cause I had saved messages, game saves, pics etc but it's all disappeared.. I did a nandroid backup beforehand but it's no use. If I had known it does a complete factory reset I would of simply copied everything to my computer, and it's my fault for not reading on that before..
My question. Is there a possible way to recover the lost data like software cause it took me a long time to progress with my games and have a couple of years of saved messages from my old phone to the M7 and it's all wiped, pictures I don't care about too much. I'd really appreciate if someone could help me out. Cheers

Unfortunately I think it's all lost, Most Android games have a cloud backup system, Real Raceing 3 for example allows you to restore your game progress from the in game settings see attached screen shots. Most other games will restore your progress on login if you selected "Backup My Device With my Google account" when you setup your rom.
Messages, Pics, Music and so on are probably irrecoverable. It's possible a Recovery software may help but will most likely be expensive. So unless somebody has some jewel of info to post here I think it's safe to say it's lost.
For the record you don't need to relock your bootloader to install OTA updates. As long as you have a Complete stock rom with stock recovery OTA's will install fine while Unlocked with either s-on or s-off. Relocking is only required for manually updating firmware with a device that's s-on. :good:
Right thanks Danny, I'll take that into account next time. The forum said it was optional so I unlocked it to be safe but didn't realise it would be so detrimental to my files. On the bright side I did make a nandroid which included my old messages by good fortune. Pretty darn happy to retrieve those, got some of my data back and had a duplicate of my music on the laptop. Lost some of my important game states which I'm trying to salvage, but if I can't then meh.
I mistakenly did a factory reset and I need to recover files. My device is not rooted and cannot be rooted (G925VVRU2OAF1), and the recovery tools I've come across while searching the forums require root to work fully. This also renders DiskDigger and Undelete useless to me. Is there ANY WAY possible for me to recover my files? Or I'm done for without root?

and answer is given below
Many reasons may cause the data loss, such as, mistakenly tapping the “Delete” button when you are exploring the new features of S6.Thats why you should avoid the deleted button. The available backups is far enough to avoid data loss. To get back you can follow this link and i hope you will get your answer(http://www.jihosoft.com/android-recovery/galaxy-s6-data-recovery.html )
I feel like im in the twilight zone and there's all these body snatchers trying to make me pay 50 dollars to recover a ten minute video.
I'm in the same boat as OP. Was in Maintenance Mode and forgot that menu is select and not power. Also on OF1.
I've tried more things than I can count. My solutions thus far has been to just wait until somebody discovers a root method. Preferably something to bypass the locked bootloader altogether but...meh.
In the meantime, my S6 gathers dust as I don't want to chance overwriting anything.
Try some recovery professional app.
My wife's phone is in the similar boat.
Word from the wise- 1) turn OFF the "factory reset after 15 failed screen unlock attempts" security feature, or 2) NEVER let a young relative handle your phone when it's been locked.
My wife had already maxed out her backup storage, so there's a couple months worth of pics that are in danger of being forever lost if she dares use the memory.
And it's been updated to 6.0.1, so root options seem to be nil at this time. So frustrating.
I have an AT&T Samsung S6 phone. When it was doing an OTA update it ended up locking up and then it blanked itself and reset to factory defaults. The problem is it blanked all of my pictures. I know I should have had it backed up etc... but I didn't. My question is this, is there a way to undelete the files from the phone after blanking it. I have powered down the phone and bought a different temporary phone so that it doesn't over write any more of the files. The only undelete programs I have found require root access. So does anybody know if I can root the phone so I can undelete files? Or is there a way to undelete without root? I don't care about tripping KNOX or anything I would like to just get my photos back. It would be nice to use again but I don't care about NFC payments or anything KNOX would affect. If I have to sacrifice the phone to get pictures off then so be it. It is now running 5.1.1.
The only program I know of is on the computer for sd cards. Not sure if it would work with a phone tho. And I can't remember the name either. Google file recovery programs. I used one for my corrupted sd and it did a great job recovering. Problem is like you said is being written over if you power up the phone. Try googling "data recovery from ota deleted phone"? Good luck.
As the title says, I have a completely stock Nexus 6. It has the Oct 2017 patch version of Android 7.1.1. I'm at the point where I want to upgrade to Android 9 using LineageOS 16.0. However, reading the LineageOS instructions it sounds like I can't unlock the bootloader without it wiping my phone contents. As the warning at the top says:
"WARNING: Unlocking the bootloader will erase all data on your device! Before proceeding, ensure the data you would like to retain is backed up to your PC and/or your Google account, or equivalent."
Is there any way for me to flash custom recovery without losing the phone contents so I can perform a backup of the phone in it's current state? Or maybe there's an ADB way to perform a backup to the PC before unlocking the bootloader?
Thanks,
-Greg

To flash anything, even the recovery, requires an unlocked bootloader, thus you would lose everything. Using ADB it is possible to back up a device with a locked bootloader, but I can't tell you the steps or commands off the top of my head. And restoring such a backup is not recommended in any event when switching ROMs.
Now, if you're looking to back up your personal files such as your music or pictures you don't even need ADB. Just your PC"s file manager.

Good to know, that's what I suspected. Thanks for the confirmation.
Hello,
Is there a way to root galaxy note 9 north american model with latest updates installed without resetting the phone and without oem unlocking?
I am trying to recover accidently deleted photos from camera folder which I didnt sync anywhere, they are not in trash folder. I tried many data recovery apps but I couldnt recover deleted photos from camera folder.
Now I am trying to root the phone so I can give root access data recovery apps for deeper recovery.
Any help would be really appreciated. I hope I can recover those photoes.
