I'm currently rooted on 5.0.2 (OE2). Bootloader is locked. Is it possible to upgrade to nougat and stay rooted?

You could try this.... https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s6-edge/help/downgrading-nougat-t3601096
I never had root and thought Nougat would be better... IT SUCKED!!! I was willing to take the risk since I had a backup phone or two.
Proceed at your risk!!!
Good Luck

Hi everyone,
I have a stock Tmobile Galaxy S6 that I bought on release day and that I haven't touched since while waiting for the 40 days to elapse so that I can unlock it and use it on AT&T. Unforunately Tmobile screwed something up and it's been 2 months now and I still can't unlock it through the unlock application and I'm not receiving the emails their customer service is supposedly sending me.
The phone keeps nagging me for OTA updates, I haven't done any yet. If I do accept the ETA, does that close any doors or make rooting more difficult? My goal is to eventually flash the unified G92xF/I/T Galaxy S6 Universal Deodexed Mod edition ROM.
Thanks!
Maybe a little more difficult than 5.0.2, but you just gotta follow the correct steps. It will however, trip knox. Did you try searching for the email manually? I had that problem once and had to search manually because they didn't show up for some reason

I did search for the email and never received it. The tricky part is I had my friend bought it for me so all customer service calls go through him. I'm about to leave on vacation abroad and at this point I don't care if it's unlocked because I won't be roaming anyway, I just want the latest official fixes and enhancements without jeopardizing my ability to flash custom roms when I get back. The reason why I'm not flashing the custom ROM yet is because I think they get rid of the Tmobile unlock application which I'll need in the future when Tmobile gets their act together.
Sounds good! When you say it will trip Knox, are you saying that in regards of having to flash a custom recovery for the ROM I mentioned? If so whether I stay at 5.0.2 or update to the latest firmware wouldn't change that right?
If you are planning to flash a 5.1.1 rom then yes you will have to trip knox on 5.0.2 or 5.1.1 bootloader. Updating to full 5.1.1 firmware is recommended for this, otherwise fingerprint reader will not work. Now, there is a way to not trip knox on 5.1.1 but you will lose that fingerprint functionality. There is also a method to not trip on 5.0.2 and retain fingerprint functionality but you can only flash 5.0.2 Roms
I was just browsing the forum and came across a post that linked to a new way for unlocking the Tmobile S6 using Android SIM Unlocker. It looks very promising so I may actually be unlocked within the next 24 hours. So you recommend that no matter what I let the OTA update my phone to 5.1.1 before flashing anything in order to retain fingerprint reader functionality? I intend on running 5.1.1 and not staying on 5.0.2.
The ROM instructions say: "If you're experiencing ANY issue, then first make sure that you're on the latest bootloader/firmware (see post #4 for latest one for your model), and that you've done an clean install (data/factory reset before installing the ROM)."

Follow the same procedure for rooting and flashing 5.1.1 without tripping Knox but flash a 5.0.2 rom after you are done

Sorry for such a basic question. I rooted my Moto X quite a while ago. It is still on 4.2.2, the phone asks me to update every day and I just decline it. How can I update it to a newer version without losing root or causing any issues??
Thanks in advance!
You'll have to lose the root first. But may I suggest you explore the option of unlocking your bootloader 1st before updating as you won't be able to unlock it once you do the update to latest firmware.

Unroot + Update, then Root again...
Thank you both for the replies. Yes, I'd like to unlock bootloader. I don't remember exactly what I used to root since it was a while ago. I believe it was an app. Does it matter? What's the easiest way to unlock bootloader?
How do I unroot since I don't remember exactly how I rooted? Then once I unlock bootloader do I try to get the auto update from Sprint or download the update somewhere?
Thanks again!

You can unroot by the su app but you don't have to be unrooted to take ota's. Just have stock recovery and your stock ROM. If I were you, I wouldn't update the bootloader, so you can easily go back. Lots of complaints about 5.1. So go unlock the bootloader first with root, flash twrp, and then flash this ROM here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3155843
Then if you don't like stock lollipop, you can go back. Lots of people like 4.4.4. This ROM doesn't update the boot loader

I'm not very hacky or what you call it, my know-how in this region is not very good, so I'm hoping someone here is able to help me.
When I was in USA I bought myself a AT&T Samsung Galaxy S5 (G900A), paid it off and had it service unlocked (called AT&T and they unlocked it for me). Then I went back to Ukraine and now I want to to be rooted... and have lollipop.
I don't know how to upgrade it to lollipop... Kies and the phone says I have the latest firmware and I cant get it updated. On top of that, I've read in posts here that if I update before rooting it, I might be in trouble later on the road.
Towelroot V3 says that my phone is not supported so I can't root it that route...
I've read tutorials here about rooting with the ND3 update... first of all, I don't know what the ND3 update is and how to obtain it since I can't update my phone OTA in Ukraine.
How do I go about this?
More information about my phone (since I learned more information about this process).
Kernel date is Tuesday July 22 2014... towelroot is said to work for any before June 3, 2014... this is probably why my phone isn't supported.
Also, is it true that Android 5.0 removes the SD Card functionality???
Well, I got it rooted... thanks to muniz_ri!
I just went ahead and risked it, not knowing what ND3 or NG3 was.
My next step is flashing it to Android 5+ ... that is if it doesn't remove the SD Card functionality
Well, I found these instructions on flashing my G900A to a pre-rooted stock lollipop... the problem I'm having is with FireFlash... I can't seem to find that app anywhere.

Thank you!!!!!
Wait, I'm confused - you say you were able to downgrade your G900A to a rooted 4.x state? I thought root was impossible once you take the 5.0 update?

You can only if you didn't take on the 5.0 OC4 bootloader and kept OA1
I didn't take the 5.0 update since I am out of the country and OTA updates don't come here... but I did have the NG3 update... so I downgraded to ND3, rooted and went back to NG3... then I flashed a prerooted 5.0 stock ROM with OA1 (I think...) and now I'm using it...
I flashed my phone with CyanogenMod13, completely not knowing what I was doing. I realized there were a few bugs on CM13 like my camera not working and things like that so I want to go back to stock Marshmallow 6.0.1 so I can have FOTA and a fully functioning phone. I know it was pretty silly of me to actually attempt this without consideration but could anyone help me out on getting back?
I have a Z5 Compact E5823.
Thanks.
Just download flashtool, stock firmware and flash it
btw. It's Xperia Z section, not Z5
Thanks man, sorry about the wrong section.
Will I be able to flash stock rom and receive OTA updates? My bootloader is currently unlocked.
I have already tried flashing before and I am getting random errors each time, with all drivers downloaded properly.
I flashed it with Emma last night and it took me to 5.1.1, and I cant receive any updates, so what am I doing wrong?
I want to go back to stock rom with OTA updates, although CyanogenMod13 was great.

Nope, OTA not working on unlocked bootloader, this can brick your phone
How can I lock my bootloader? Or do you think its recommended I keep the bootloader unlocked?
I just wanted to go back to stock rom for OTA updates thats all.
Many thanks.

I don't even know what that is lol. I should've done research in advance before proceeding to unlock my bootloader. I did make a backup of everything though, I used a tutorial, I used TWRP to backup stuff, or something like that?
Also, is there no way to receive OTA updates now that my bootloader is unlocked? Will flashing stock rom not allow me to receive OTA updates?
Thanks for your ongoing support btw, really stressing me out lol.
Hello,
Would someone tell me if it was possible to downgrade to Oreo if your phone came with PIE preinstalled? I was told it was a matter of the bootloader staying the same. If true, what would happen if the bootloader changed after I downgraded to Oreo and needed to reinstall? Would I be out of luck?
Thank you!!!!!

The bootloader cannot be downgraded unfortunately. What model device do you have? That's the first thing we will need to know before proceeding further.
