I'm having an use using Nova launcher. Not sure if it related to 5.3.3.0.
If I try and add any widgets to the home screen the Amazon fire settings page comes up rather than actually adding anything. Adding apps seems to work fine.
I'm using lancher hijack and Nova launcher 5.1
nova must be a system app for widgets to work. it can only be made a system app if you have root.

Hi everyone.
I've been trying to keep from rooting my KF HD and decided to sideload some of my launchers from my GSII. But when I install ADW, GO and Nova they all install correctly but they don't show up in my app list except for ADW. And ADW opens fine and lets me customize the home screens and everything but I cant set it as the default home screen.
Can anyone help me or explain why this is happening.
Thanks
ADW is the only one that functions correctly on a non-rooted device. Don't have a reason why though, but apparently Amazon wanted to lock out alternative launchers.
If you root, you can put the launcher apk in system/app, install and can set the home button defaults. I personally got go launcher ex to function, though I believe others have managed to get other launchers to work.
Otherwise non-rooted, ADW will function but you can't change the defaults.

I'm running 10.1.3 and don't feel the need for anything else. On my Nexus 7 I like the Holo launcher but the CM launcher seems to have most of the same capabilities.

I liked the 10.1 launcher (Trebuchet) well enough on my HD+, but made the move to Nova when I switched to CM 11 -- I didn't like the modality of dragging shortcuts to the left/right to create screens in the early builds, and decided I wanted to be able to impose consistency on my phone and tablet (phone's a GS3, currently running stock TouchWiz).
I have been using apex launcher on all my tablets, android 2.0, cm10.1, cm10.2.
works well easy to setup and use.
I freeze the original launcher to free up resources and never go back.

you can do that with the google experience launcher and you get to swipe left for google now on your home screen.
I've been using Nova Launcher on a Nook HD+ running CM10.1.3 stable since I moved over to CM. The default CM launcher is great, but needed the additional features of Nova Prime, such as hide apps in drawer (needed to hide file manager/terminal and other apps which my younger brothers/sisters could mess with).
Generally, I'm happy with CM10.1.3 with Nova Launcher. Other than that, I have made no other customisations to the ROM.

And with nova you can swipe UP and get google now...plus all the nova enhancements that the google launcher doesn't yet support. Nova also has a full screen google now widget if you absolutely need one.
I also pointed out I can say "ok google" (or whatever catch phrase I choose to use) ANYWHERE...not just on the home screen.
I have already installed CM11 for the Amazon Kindle Fire HD 7" on my tablet.. Apex launcher or Nova works fine.. But I'm having trouble with "Google Now Launcher", the app install fine but doesn't seems to be able to make it as default launcher.
How can I fix this?
Thanks

When you press the home button an option should pop up if you want to set it as your default launcher, just hit the "always" option.
Like I'm stated in the OP, the app installs fine. With other launchers and I was able to make it default. But Google Now Launcher does not work. It will not let me set as default launcher. Have you try this launcher ad make it work?
I used the touch wiz launcher originally, but want to try the google now launcher. But now none of my apps show up. Am I better off starting over from scratch with a factory reset?
Which launcher are you using?
I am using nova.
Assuming you did not disable the TW launcher, go to setting...scroll down to applications and select. When that menu pop up, look to your upper left corner you will see three dots going down...click it. Choose default applications, than you will see the option to choose your default home screen under "set as default".

I like Apex, but it was becoming difficult to tell what themes, icons, launcher would stick. I'd fix one thing and something else would vanish, got tired of that. So I found a theme from the Theme Store and now I can stand looking at Touchwiz!!

The Google launcher works fine as long as you don't set up the secure folder, after that is done all the apps disappear from the app drawer...

I am currently using Nova Launcher Prime. Also have Apex Launcher Pro Installed and running in my Note 7 as just in case.
There are reasons that I am not using TouchWiz UX (Grace) Launcher nor Chrome Now Launcher as you will see below:
Here are a 4 Home Launchers that I didn’t choose to stay with after testing with the Note 7
Google Now Launcher – Way too limited. Didn’t transferred the app icons to the App Drawer. So I can’t even copy the Phone Dialer icon over to the Apps Dock. Disappointed since I was wishing to truly integrate Google vanilla experience to the Note 7.
Go Launcher Z – They only allow you to use their Widgets and no third party Widgets. WHAT!!! No Go! They also are getting into Ads and charging lots to get rid of ads (GO Launcher Super v i p price $19.99 (45% off the full price). Go Launcher Prime is $5.99 which I have.
ADW Launcher 1 (New) – Getting less customized and more Google material style. For an example I like transparent App Drawer. The new ADW Launcher only gives you colors like 90s websites for the background in the App Drawer. I used to love ADW, but they are now going backwards.
TouchWiz UX (Grace) - Very lagging, no default access to Live wallpapers, you can't see some of your icons in landscape mode, etc. I really tried to stay with TouhWiz UX. The one thing that turned me to another home launcher is that I am tired of having to go portrait mode to select apps when I am already in landscape mode.
There are serious enough problems with TouchWiz UX to give good reason for the power user to switch home launchers. TouchWiz UX is lagging, no default access to Live wallpapers, you can't see some of your icons in landscape mode, etc. We can get around that with a custom home launcher like Nova Launcher, Apex Launcher, etc. I found that both Nova Launcher and Apex Launcher doesn't get in the way of Samsung's features. Meaning both of these home launchers allow all Samsung features to work within these launchers on Note 7.
Personally I don’t like "3D" home launchers. Which is the reason I didn’t try them with Note 7.
Recommendation Note:
I recommend trying either Nova Launcher or Apex Launcher. Both worked wonderfully with Note 7 and provide much customization. Nova Launcher is the first one I would try out only because of the third party customization for the Nova Launcher.
I use HomeSmack to switch between home launchers. Works flawlessly with Note 7.

Not sure what you mean by "...can't see all icons in landscape mode...." for Touchwiz. I don't remember Touchwiz rotating to landscape on the home screen. One reason I've not liked it since about donut or was it gingerbread?
Nova Prime here as well.
Nova Prime, but might try AL3 ( Action Launcher ) down the road...
Nova Prime here as well
Running 5.4.0.1 Fire 7 7th Gen.
I can run either the default Amazon launcher and any of the pre-installed
software, (Kindle, Audible, Movies etc) or I can run Apex launcher with
Play Store and widgets and it looks mostly like a normal Android tablet.
Alexa does activate on home long press. Normal press does show the
home screen of the launcher set in Launcher Hijack 3.
Kindle app will not open when Apex is set as launcher
I am wondering if 5.4.0.1 doesn't like either 3rd party
launchers in general or Apex in particular or if I am
doing something wrong?
I noticed that many scripts are using Nova, is that
launcher known to work with 5.4.0.1 on 7th Gen?
Will Kindle app open correctly with it set as
launcher?

Preinstalled Kindle app (not the one available in the Play Store) is known to have some dependencies on the stock launcher. May explain the behaviors observed when Apex is primary.
Home button long press behavior is expected with custom launcher. Don't believe there is a workaround w/o root.
Apex and Nova are fine launchers; I prefer the latter but it's a personal call.
Widget support is variable by launcher. Last I knew Nova required root for widgets (on FireOS only) but that may have changed.

Widgets works fine in Apex by following this post https://forum.xda-developers.com/amazon-fire/general/root-required-widgets-preferred-launcher-t3637814.
Does the reference to preinstalled Kindle app vs Play Store Kindle app mean I can use the Play Store app with Apex?
If so, how do I get it installed? Would it overwrite the 'updated' preinstalled Kindle app in /data/app?

Assume you mean Nova as widget support with Apex has been established.

To the best of my knowledge the preinstalled Kindle app must be used. As I recall the Play Store app doesn't install/function correctly under FireOS.
