im currently using ZypherOS as my daily driver and considering moving to LOS 13. I've read both threads' comments. How do these compare? anyone here who have used both ROMs? is it worthwhile to flash LOS 13 (more pros than cons)?
Personally, I really liked Zephyr, but I had some issues now and then. Overall, AOSP roms seem to feel slightly snappier than LOS. Now, LOS can have an occasional slowdown, but I would get outright bugs/crashes with Zephyr. It was the only AOSP rom that i could actually get GPS and speakerphone working at the same time, but there were other instabilities. So I chose the prehaps slower, but more stable LOS. I've also been able to minimize that occasional lag with a custom kernel and some related tweaks.
As far as features they are somewhat similar, but I think LOS probably has slightly more features (baring substratum install, of course). In some cases they have different features though, so not everything translates between them.
All of the MM roms have the potential modem issue with GPS/Speakerphone, so you may need to play with that if you encounter problems. I'm now trying to play with Gapps nano to keep things leaner, and seem to be having some success that way too! Also, if trying to root, I highly recommend trying Magisk over SuperSU; there's a ton of flexibility (and Magisk Hide is awesome!)
Make a backup, and then maybe give it a shot! I find myself really enjoying it!

I never use Zephyr but I use Los 13 and I don't have bug with speaker or gps (have GPS problem with Resurrection remix).
There's a occasionally slow down with heavy usage (stock kernel) but latest version resolve the slow down by Bluetooth (for me at least) so I'm happy with it.
Last but not least it's the only MM ROM in development as now.

Hi all
Used to be a big fan of custom romming all of my phones. But ever since android pay ive been on stock rom. So now I'm a bit out of touch with everything.
Just got LOS on my MI5 and I've noticed that there is a LOT of lag. Does anyone else notice this? In the past AOSP based roms are so much smoother than standard MIUI roms, right now the opposite has been true.
Anyone else experiencing this? So far I'm running latest LOS nightly, standard kernel. Only thing I've added is magisk to use android pay.
I have had the same experience. Even some of the ROMs start out fast then slow down to a halt over time. The fastest/stable ROM I've used is PureNexus + Xceed Kernel, and it supports Android pay, Magisk, Systemless Root, SafetyNet bypass and Substratum and has a nice Pixel like interface (just install Google Pixel Launcher as a system app).
However, keep an eye out: Xiaomi just dropped new kernel source a few days ago and it might solve a lot of the performance issues we've been having. They finally (sort of) sorted it out performance issues on MIUI too in the last (stable) update.
edit: Forgot to mention that the lagging seems to be a result of aggressive frequency handling due to poor resource allocation resulting in "overheating" (it never really gets hot, because as soon as it gets noticeably warm there are aggressive throttles).
install kernel auditor and look your cpu frequences, i m using los since 2 months and the rom is very smooth, just like miui
los seems to get laggy after few days of use. I find aosp to be much more smoother and slim 7
I totally agree with you! I use the MIUI based on Android 6 + Xposed(XMIUI modul)
Which stable update are you talking about? I mean tbh on the latest stable that I Had (from a few days ago) it was mostly fine. But certain apps in certain situation just seem to bog down which is really annoying given the amazing hardware the mi5 has.
Never had any heat issues in MIUI which makes me think LOS isn't really that great.
go to kernel adiutor, go to virtual memory and increase the z-ram
Also just tried purenexus. standard kernel....all of my problems are now solved
that would've been a good shout. But i've switched to purenexus. Everything appears to be fixed.
test slim and xceed kernel based on new surce! is better
Hi. I flashed LineageOS 16 recently (clean flash) and the ROM is really good in a lot of aspects, I'm really digging it. But something that bothers me is that sometimes when scrolling through an app or swiping (like on Instagram) there's a noticeable frame drop or stutter. Interesting enough, it happens only on certain apps and moments and not always but it's enough to bother me since stock was so smooth (coming from Oreo Stock).
Is it something that normally happens with this phone? If so, is there a fix for it? Maybe a Magisk module or something.
I appreciate your help, thanks in advance.
For the stutter and performance issues, I recommend the LKT magisk module. I personally use the performance preset on lineage os, and it works fine.

I mean, it does work but not to the extent I'd like. Isn't Moto X4 capable of handling this ROM? Or is it something else's fault?
You're not alone, I've had the exact same experience.
The fist post in the LOS thread says to use Oreo firmware. Not sure of that is no longer correct since it's LOS 16 which is Pie.
I ended up going back to stock Android One.
Out of curiosity do you have a 3GB ram or 4GB ram version?

I have the 3GB version. However, I almost sure it's not a RAM issue since one of the things LOS does very good is keeping apps in the background, actually in that regard is better than stock IMO, though I've only tried stock Oreo on this phone.
This problem is a little one but it annoys me quite a bit since when I was running stock ROM the overall performance was always snappy. I should try wiping cache/dalvik with TWRP but I haven't had the chance atm.
BTW, how's stock Pie? I'm curious.
I have found that if you go into developer options and disable HW overlays, that fixes it. However, for some reason, that setting seems to revert back after some time. So that might be a bug.

I really like the most recent stock FI PPW29.69-39-1. It's pretty snappy and the double-tap-power-button- to-open-camera works faster than previous builds.
Im seeing some pretty poor UI performance as well. Especially in Firefox and K9 email. I didn't see any strain in the CPUs (none went over 20% utilization while I was experiencing the lag). LOS 16 is pretty young, might be some optimations just aren't there yet? Today's changelog was dense so people are absolutely working hard on it.
Edit: FWIW Firefox and k9 are slow on Havoc as well but Havoc's performance has been otherwise stellar. 3D performance included.
i noticed it only happen when battery saver is on. try it
Activate Developer Options, set all values for animation times to zero, phone is more fluent afterwards.
Hi,
I just took my old Nexus six out of the drawer thinking I would start using it again but sadly the dreaded speaker death has occurred. Is there a series of steps I should take to try to fix it? Earphones work fine and Bluetooth works fine but nothing comes out of the top speaker at all even with the volume set to high. I'm on android version 7.11, pure Nexus v. 7.1.1.20170215-OFFICIAL, rooted, with the kernel Franco 3.10.40.
What should I try first, hardware fixes or software? It used to work, now is dead.
Roll back to stock first to verify whether this is a hardware or software issue. If it's software, install a ROM more current than Pure Nexus. Otherwise you'll have to hunt for a new speaker.
I will install stock first. Where would I find a new speaker if that's what it needs?
Update: rolled back to stock and sound works fine now. You are brilliant! Now have to decide what ROM to use. Any recommendations?
You first have to decide if you want VoLTE or wifi-calling. For that you need a Oreo rom, and the only one I know that is still updated is LineageOS 15.1.
Otherwise, you can take your pick from the Pie roms. I believe that they all work fine on the N6, it's more a question of which extra features you prefer.

Is there any great advantage to upgrading from stock? Now that I've got the phone working pretty well I'm a little hesitant to start messing around with lineage or one of the pie ROMs. Will the phone run faster and have less lag and have better camera options if I upgrade the ROM?
Thanks again for helping me get my phone working again.

The new roms have many more features, both from the newer Android, and from the efforts of the rom devs.
Of course, you may not need or even like the new features. Myself, I hate the new auto-brightness in Pie.
There are also some speed optimizations, but IMO they don't make a world of difference.
I believe that the camera driver is closed source, and therefore unchanged from stock. The camera app can however provide different amounts of options on top of the driver (Snap Camera in lineage has a lot of options) - but you should be able to get that by installing other camera apps on stock as well.
But most of all, I like to have the newest security fixes.
The bootloader has an option called: "factory mode" that has an app called: "CQATest"
After loading it choose "CQA Menu Mode"
Audio --> Loudspeaker
This will play an audio test file at full volume until you press the vol down or back button.
This is a useful application for general hardware testing too.
Hi guys,
my OP3T is increasingly getting on my nerves and I'd love some input on what I should do next. I've been running rooted OxygenOS with TWRP and SuperSU - as far as I can tell, this is old technology. Every time Oneplus released an update, I'd download the full zip file, flash it in TWRP and flash SuperSU over it. Reboot and I'm up and running again right away.
Now with the OOS 9.x.x release issues, things are getting a bit more complicated - I think this might be the right point in time to do a full wipe, back up everything via Titanium Backup and start fresh with a new custom ROM that will (maybe) provide updates for the next year or two.
In general the OP3T is starting to get a little slow. Google Assistant is flakey (Sometimes doesn't activate properly on "OK Google", sometimes plays the beep and then doesn't record any commands, sometimes pops up behind the home screen icons so you can't read any of the text, sometimes just ignores the "OK Google") and the battery life is going downhill a little bit. I'm hoping a fresh wipe and maybe a new ROM will help here. I also need to take care of the earpiece issues - mine is clogged with dust, as are many Oneplus phones if Google results are anything to go by...
So I have a few options:
1. Sell the OP3T cheap (can't give it to my girlfriend because of the earpiece), buy a Pixel or some other phone
2. Upgrade the OP3T to OxygenOS 9.x.x and keep my data with this method (https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3t/how-to/guide-cope-9-0-3-5-0-8-firmware-barrier-t3941164)
3. Upgrade the OP3T to OOS 9.x.x, wipe everything and move to Magisk or something like that - what are my options here? Is Magisk the go-to method to get root these days?
4. Pick a custom ROM, wipe everything and just move to that. Anyone have a recommendation that's pretty much stock Android, stable and will likely receive regular security updates for the next one or two years? Easy updates with root would be a definite plus!
Any suggestions? Half of me is about ready to trash the OP3T and just get a Pixel now that I can't hear callers when I answer the phone

You could get the ear piece and microphone ports cleaned.
You could do a clean install.
You could install custom ROMs
You could upgrade.
These are all choice you make.
My personal choice: I'm keeping my phone for at least 4 years. I'd be happy very with just OOS (I think it's the best rom I've ever used), but I want security updates. And for that reason I use LineageOS (I've been using it and CM since 2012).
You make your choice based on what matters too you.

Hi Bill,
thanks for your answer.
Of course it's a personal choice that I'll have to make - I'm just looking to get some more info and pros/cons for each choice before wasting my time. Cleaning my earpiece is something that'll take an hour or so of careful fiddling (Is there a permanent fix to get it dustproof? Maybe an aftermarket dust gasket of some kind?), and backup/wipe/flash/restore is something that'll certainly take a chunk out of one of my weekends. All in all that's probably 12 hours of my life I'm not getting back.
Mainly what I want to know is: Is wiping the phone flashing a custom ROM like LineageOS viable for reliable day to day use on the OP3T? How has your experience been compared to OxygenOS in regards to:
-Updates (both security and Android version) - Is the update process seamless now or is it still done purely by a flash from recovery?
-Stability (I'm seeing only nightly builds on the LineageOS page [https://download.lineageos.org/oneplus3] - are there stable or even milestone builds?)
-Feature completeness compared to OxygenOS... do things like double-tap-to-wake work?
-Root... as I asked in my OP, what method is standard these days? Lineage suggests its "AddonSU" package but everyone else seems to say Magisk ist the way to go...?
-Is anything broken?
?
Does anyone else have alternative suggestions in regards to ROMs that may be exactly what I'm looking for? Something that looks and feels exactly like OxygenOS?

Updates: I dirty flash them in recovery once a month.
Security updates: Los gets them every month. OOS may get one more update, but that will be the last.
Completeness: I find Los as good as OOS. And Nlos (https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...elopment/rom-nlos-16-0-t3879405/post78433980) even has scrolling screenshots. Note: I don't care much about the camera as I rarely use it.
Root: I've been using Magisk since SuperSU became unsupported. I like it better than SuperSU. I have absolutely to problems with it.
Broken: nothing's broken for me.
But you would have known all of this if you read through the various threads. And there's no "best" rom as it's a subjective decision.
So jump in and try things for yourself.

Hi,
I've been daily driving LineageOS 16 for a while and although it's a pretty neat ROM with latests (to my knowledge) security patches, cool stock-android vibe with some in-house tweaks, 5Ghz WiFi tethering ain't working at all (known issue) and battery life has known better days.
So I'm looking for a new ROM to daily drive... One with a functional 5Ghz WiFi tethering and the most up-to-date security patches. I don't really mind if it rolls back to Marshmallow or even implies to use TouchWizz again (ewww)... Although it would be cool if I could natively change pixel density (Stock ROMs look like toys to me with their big fonts, icons and UI elements)
Also, my Galaxy S5 is not the most generic one, it's a SM-G900I, the Asian/Indian variant under Snapdragon (klte?)
Also, I'd like to know if you'd have any Kernel to recommend that may improve Battery life/Performance ratio to go along with it, have to admit I'm kinda rusty with the whole thing
On top of that, do you guys have any advices to optimize battery life, limit what goes on background without scarifying too much performance (I like it to feel snappy, and the device is getting old)... I don't know... Apps to limit background usage, system tweaks and so on...
Sounds like I'll have to stick with the mighty Galaxy S5 for a while before I'll upgrade and make it a remote/emulation handled for its retirement
Thanks!

I Cant tell you what rom to use , there are plenty of roms out there sorry you gotta find a rom by yourself,
If you use magisk you can install fde.ai which will make your phone faster and battery-friendly without overheating or slowdowns as it names tells, its an ai which works on background to make your phone power-saving without slowdowns or performance-improving without overheating or the battery getting drained fast , and if you have the stock battery you may buy another one for your phone and replace it with the stock battery , And If You Want My ROM That Im Using Then Its The Resurrection Remix Latest Version , its very stable , the latest uptade was on September of 2019

never say "look for yourself"! that is why forums are for... for not looking yourself, because somebody already did that! don't you think so?
I'm using LuisROM CrDroid 6.7 with Tuned Kernel. I've found this to be a great combination on my phone. I have the S902L. The ROM is based on Android 10 and has the latest security updates. Battery life is really good. I'm not sure if the 5ghz tethering works as I never use tethering, but everything else on the ROM works flawlessly. Give it a shot.

I almost forgot to mention, make sure you are using the latest TWRP and backup your EFS partition using the latest version. Seriously. I ran into a problem of no cellular signal after I flashed a kernel update. My EFS backup was made on an older version of TWRP. It was a real headache getting this fixed. So use the latest TWRP to make your backup.
