Hi Guys,
Ive recently upgraded my Huawei P9 to Nougat after a frustrating and painfull experience i do hope that im not in for another long ride i suppose inexperience adds to the frustration but nothing i cant handle except the time wasting as long as its worth it in the end though!
Anyways, i am looking to upgrade my old htc one m7 on the EE network in the UK to android 7. Is there a guide that you could point me to in order to get the ball rolling? the questions i need answering is.... does it have to be rooted, does it need to be carrier unlocked?, which programs do i need to download?, how long should this whole process take an average joe to install everything? am i likely to run into any issues problems other than the obvious bricking scenarios?
I remember back in the day i did my htc tytn 2 and customised that but that was 10 years ago.....where does time go?
thanks in advance
cammy
Just to be clear there is no official nougat for our m7. We have only custom roms. So let you start the whole process with unlocking your bootloader. After you will do that you will have to install a custom recovery (newest TWRP). When you will do this then find a custom ROM that you would want to install, download it (remember to download gapps also), put it on your phone, go to the recovery (power + vol down), do a full wipe (data, system, cache and dalvik-cache) and then flash your rom and gapps. After you will do that simply reboot your phone and be happy using the newest nougat rom on your htc. If you have more questions simply write them here or on PM

hi dj,
what are the benefits of using the nougat update over marshmallow? which rom works better in terms of functionality, battery life etc... does all hardware correspond in the nougat rom?
can i use the twrp program i used for my p9 or do i need to download another? is it much the same process for flashing like it was on the huawei p9?
what is the guestimate on time for the whole complete process?
also, can i backup my apps, contacts etc... and reinstall them after the nougat update?
sorry for all the questions :/

Well, nougat roms are much more stable then marshmallow ones (at least on our m7). Battery life is ok, nothing special, but still not that bad. Everything technically works (some bugs are just user related)
For recovery you need to use a version made for m7 ofc. Flashing is simple as you only need to write a one command in the cmd (or terminal but depends on a system you actually use)
And for the last question - yes you can make a backup of apps and contacts but you have to know that some apps might act weird after that process (you will have to simply reinstall them)

You can find the latest twrp here https://dl.twrp.me/m7univ/
Well for the Rom itself it depends on what you want, i think most Android N Roms are nearly complete Bugfree here is an overview of those Roms https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one/general/nougat-roms-international-htc-one-m7-t3524060
I use AICP for a while now but tried most of them and AICP is best for me now.

Always choose arm. Version depends on android version. I can recommend pico gapps. Or just download beans gapps (better one for me)

When you are in twrp, you should be able to connect it to your pc. If the pc doesnt recognize it go into "mount" and deactivate mtp and activate it again, should connect now.
hi dj,
i managed to install aicp rom and i installed bean gapps not sure what im looking for in terms of bean gapps but i will google it.
however, after installing the rom i get a repeat boot loop after about 10 secondswhen im on phone menu. any ideas whats wrong?

I guess you installed a correct rom right? (for m7). If you got a bootloop then simply wipe cache, dalvik-cache, data and system and flash AICP and gapps again

To all,
I have a Galaxy S3 LTE (i9505) on Android 4.3. I wanna have it rooted, and a custom ROM as well.
What I've read about 4.3 is the fact that it got KNOX Bootloader, and that KNOX can cause problems when installing custom recovery.
How can I put a custom recovery on it? Just flash CWM in ODIN or do I need to root first, disable KNOX and then flash with ODIN? How u guys have do it (if you did it)?
Also, if you have a custom rom on KNOX 4.3, what are you experiences? Stable?
Thanks,
Daniel
i didn't done it for my device yet...just got it for less than a month...after 1 more i'll do it...
did it for a friend with note 2...which has 4.3 with KNOX bootloader...
flashed CWM with odin with no problem what so ever...when rooting there was a problem...flashed supersu in CWM but app failed to load due to knox...flashed a patch to remove knox......http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2507931 ....and turned superSU off.....after turned it on.....updated superSU and worked like a charm...
but this will set that annoying knox counter to 0x1...for him that wasn't a problem...
Just got it rooted, had one problem with SuperSU and that was the message "SuperSU has stopped" when opening SuperSU. Fixed it by downloading SuperSU apk and install over it. Disabled KNOX, installed ROM Manager and installed CWM Recovery. Now downloading CyanogenMod 11, gonna install it later today when I'm home.
Thanks

Wysłane z mojego GT-I9305 przy użyciu Tapatalka
to flash the kernel you only need custom recovery....
just make sure you flash the one for Samsung...not for CM...
if you have jb 4.3 flash THIS
Ok, ive flashed beoefla kernel (ofc 3x wipe) and without any changes my device is not smooth at all. It was laggy. I flashed kernel from 10.03 for jb based device. Sometimes freez for few sec.

Use CF-Auto Root to root then that's fine
Then go flash a rom
Remember this will loose your warranty
Flash a new rom and all things become good and perfect
Remember to have a full backup before doing anything stupid!

My question is this can i still root and flash the phone with a broken usb port?
Maybe by copying files onto phone using an sd card?
Any help is appreciated

Use towelroot to root your device. And use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/orig-development/app-recovery-twrp-2-4-3-0-lockled-t2190936 app to install TWRP recovery and then flash stock based ROMs

there is a OTA 4.4.4 update coming soon to my carrier. If i root my device will this effect my ability to do OTA updates?
Also if you still can do OTA updates on a rooted phones does updating unroot the phone.
You also mention flash stock roms, which current ones do you recommend.

you can update a rooted phone to 4.4.4
but doing so will unroot it again.
to gain toot access on 4.4.4 after updating you have to flash 4.4.2 kernel root and then flash 4.4.4 kernel
so getting root on 4.4.4 you will need a working usb port

OTA UK 4.4.4 update still not arrived??? gonna try a flash!
Well this over the air update 4.4.4 seems be not arriving. anyone in the UK (on Three carrier) had a 4.4.4 update?
I think i'm going to try flashing this update myself (remember my usb is broken and on stock 4.4.2).
This is the process (correct me if i'm wrong!!)
1. install towelroot and root device (easy just install app)
2. install SU app (again easy just install app and restart phone)
3. install a recovery software (whats the easy way to do this without usb?)
4. download one of the stock roms from the general section of the xperia z forum. (i have noticed there is not a UK version, is this a problem?)
5. copy this rom to the phone using SD card (do i need to copy this rom to the phone or leave it on the SD card?).
6. boot into the recovery software, clear the caches and flash the rom.
I should then have rooted 4.4.4 stock xperia Z.
If anyone has anything to add I would be most grateful of any help or advice.
Dave

You are kinda.... WRONG! here is why:
Step 3: That recovery installing software working only on 4.2.2 because I already tried to install the recovery from it and FAILED on the newer Android versions....
Step 4: those ROMs with UK in the title or any others like that are NOT recovery flashable ROMs. They are pure stock ROMs can be flashed only via flashtool. You can find what you need in the development section.
Sorry to say that...

Hi guys! I have a Sony Xperia Z1 Compact phone. So my story begins when I installed a stock Android 5.1.1 on it, and I tried to install the original Xposed, but after booting it showed the SystemUI/everything fine for a sec, then it all got black. However, I could uninstall it, and install an unofficial Xposed by romracer. Anyway, that was a couple months ago, and now I saw it there is a version 79.1/80 and I'm asking that if his version worked with my phone, would this Samsung version one could work with mine? I can't find any Xposed frameworks by romracer anymore. I have v74 by the way (20150911).
So, what do you guys suggest?
Oh, and on android 5.0.2 the official Xposed worked fine. Maybe Sony changed some things since then...
And I don't know what was the problem with the original one, I couldn't do anything on my phone. (No logcat or anything.)
Or maybe the new original version would work?
Thanks in advance guys!

Use the latest official Xposed version from rovo89 (v80, SDK22) instead of any romracer versions (which are outdated by now).
^yeah I know they're outdated. Then should I take the risk, and try to flash the original version? Like I said, my whole phone went black with the original one back in September (the screen was on though)

Yeah, there have been lots of improvements since September. Make a complete backup in recovery, flash the latest official Xposed framework and wipe cache/dalvik afterwards.

Dear XDA-developers,
Today I spend numerous hours in trying to root my xperia z3 compact.
I currently have MM 6.0.1 D5803 installed on it with 23.5.A.0.575 the netherlands T-Mobile version. I have tried the following: Kingroot, iroot, kingoroot etc but it is all not working. I also used adroid sdk and changed the fastboot driver. I am able to fast boot etc.
Could anybody help me out with rooting this device? Love to hear from you guys.

It is described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/how-to-root-backup-drm-keys-t3013343/page149
Basically you must downgrade to kitkat, run the rooting script and install recovery, and then install a prerooted marshmallow rom.

I've tried with both:

Any ideas guys?

I've installed this: D5803_23.0.A.2.93_Generic GLOBAL.ftf

Then you are doing something wrong with flashtool, I used that build yesterday, then used geifroot and dual recovery, before flashing Slim 2.
you need to tick all of the wipe boxes, and none of the exlcude, or it won't work. You can't keep your data flashing to a different firmware.

There are only two good builds for the Z3c at the moment.
The Slim 5 which is lollipop
or the Slim 2 MM. I was sceptical about MM battery life and held back 5.1 for a long time, but now the latest roms is out, the doze function works as well or better than stamina mode. I am getting 4 days between charges now, something I could never do before

If you have such permission, I would suggest to edit the guide in: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/how-to-root-backup-drm-keys-t3013343
by adding the following:
7. Just select the name of the fw you downloaded and click on "Flash". Note: select both wipes in case you are coming from different android version.
43. Open Flashtool and select the non-pre-rooted fw (this is 23.1.A.0.690), but DESELECT system: in "EXCLUDE" make sure you check the checkbox next to "SYSTEM", flash it.
I will put this comment on the relative guide too!
I don't want to abuse of you kindness but I am currently searching for some CPU+GPU clock and voltage changer. Is there any efficient application that you can suggest me?
So i have broken digitizer Z3 and my daily driver Z3C.
When i enter camera, on both phones, using dedicated button, Z3 has better image quality. Now im profesional photographer, so i know its better. It has better dinamic range in same scenes than my Z3C, its sharper, and has better colours. Now, trick is that Z3 has older android, i dont know how much, but it is older. Is that a reason? Im so annoyed by this, because it should have same cameras, and if it does, than it will become worse if i fix the phone and update android?

YES, the fact that your phones have different Android Versions means a lot for the camera performance!
Whenever you open the camera using the physical button, your phone switches to auto mode, which (in my opinion) sucks on all versions of Sony's Android.
If you have time to experiment, it"s worth giving a try to upgrade on 6.0.1 and then install Cyberian Mod.It's worth giving a try in my opinion!
You can also try downgrading to 4.4, which is easier than installing mods etc, it might do the job for you...

Since I've done it on my Z3 Compact, i'll provide you the steps below:
Before you start make sure you've got 50% or more battery and that you have installed drivers for your device for Flashtool.
1)download the 3 attachments provided in this thread.
2)Download the correct version for you device from Cyberian thread ( It should be this one ''Download Cyberian 4.2 For Xperia Z3 Compact MM'' ) and place it at your sd card as it is( I mean whole .zip file)
3)Download the superusermod [It should be this one ' Superuser Mod For Z2/Z3/Z3C MM 6.0.1 (238/291 Build)'' ]and place it to your sd card, as .zip file again
4) download SuperSU (I'll attach this in the attachments) and place it to your SD card)
5)Make sure your device is running the latest 6.0.1 firmware ( .291 at the end)
6) Rename kernel291.zip to kernel291.ftf (make sure the file type is changed to ftf , so that you can flash it Via Flashtool)
7)Rename kernel575.zip to kernel575.ftf(again , make it sure)
8)Using Flashtool in FLASHMODE, flash the kernel575.ftf file
9)Close Flashtool when procedure is finished and boot your device up, it should work normally
10) Unzip recovery_for_mm575.zip
11) Run install.bat as administrator
12) On your device, go to settings>about phone> click on Build Number (23.5...) several times so you can open developer settings. You''ll get a pop-up. When you get it, go back to Developer Settings, scroll down a little bit and enable USB Debugging.
13) Once enabled it, connect your phone to your computer, and the procedure should start in a few seconds( Again make sure you have Flashtool is closed, if not, close it and try again! )
14) Your Phone sould reboot on TWRP recovery. Once it is, flash ''SuperSU-v2.78-201609011115.zip'' file and then flash ''superuser_238_291.zip'' file.
15)Reboot into system and make sure an application called SuperSU is installed at your application drawer.
16) Power off your device
17) Using Flashtool, flash ''kernel291.ftf''
18)Boot your device up, and go to Settings>Apps>Camera>Storage and then press Clear Data.
19) Same thing for Apps> (top right corner click Show System) >Camera common>Storage and press Clear data
20) Once finished, power off your device and boot into recovery (when the front led light next to the camera lights, press Volume Down key)
21) Install ''Cyberian Z3 Compact [email protected]'' and then reboot device
22) Once rebooted, Cyberian mod should be installed at your device!
