I was wondering if there's any way to get AoD on a rooted phone? It should be possible so has anyone done it yet?
You can get it even without root with a ton of apps. The best one I found yet is available here: https://plus.google.com/communities/104206728795122451273
You just need to join the beta app and then you can get it from the Play Store.

This look promising, thanks for the tip. Just wondering how much battery it will use? Need to test that myself I guess

Usually what the playstore apps do is keep the screen awake, thus they become kinda useless.

I noticed it yep, makes tracking idle battery drain impossible. That's the only minus I really found (well, another one is that led notification doesn't work with it, atleast 3rd party systems like Light manager or Light Flow, tho is that led useful with always on display anyway? ). If those minuses aren't important for others, it's propably one of the best always on display -apps in there.
Tested in combination with "Keyboard Backlight Controller" (for having button-illumination of OP3T always on when screen is on); conflict... Unfortunately. Backlight is more important. Alway On is a great feature, but if I need to choose... Anyway: reported this to developer.

I am not rooted and want to know other than using ATK, is there anyway to stop Sprint TV and Sprint V-Mail to load on start up, I know we cannot uninstall if not rooted but don't want them running in the background every time I reboot, other than ending the task on every reboot any other suggestion if possible
Not that I'm aware of.
Even though they come on at start-up, they really don't drain that much on your active memory or battery because they don't get used, so after a little while Android kinda shifts them into the background basically. So while it still looks like they're running, Android's default memory management is such that those programs/services won't really hurt your performance since they aren't being actively used.
There is no way to do that without rooting.

No. But why would you want to? It won't slow down your phone (I promise )
Just install a task manager and if you're seeing it, add it to the ignore list.

Just know that adding a program to Ignore doesn't actually kill/end the app. It only makes it not show up in the list of running/active programs. There will also be some kind of kill/end option which does close the app. (at least that's the way it is in the couple task managers I've used)

You are correct thus the reason I did away with the TK, and you are all right as it does not really use up much memory, as I downloaded Spare Parts and those both apps when I check the battery stats in the CPU usage they don't even show up. I promise boys one day I will Root just for the experience and I know I may never look back, the only reason why I have not yet is because ever since I did away with Sense UI and have been using Launcher Pro my lag has been much much less and the phone is working much better, and the sleep mode issue I have been having only happens once a week now, thanks all

Yeah dude, it's your phone...so do whatever it is that you want/need to make it good for you. That's a main reason we're here -- to help users get their phones working just the way want them to. Last time I checked we weren't running ppl off for not being rooted
Ha, I think I rooted my phone within an hour of getting it in the mail from Sprint, just to remove the bloatware.
Has anyone tried subj with sideloaded app keeping screen on all the time. (Like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nbondarchuk.android.keepscn ) ?
Would be interesting also to compare mostly black and mostly white watchfaces.
This is something that I really would like so I will try to get this to work on my Gear. I'll report back in a few days.
Thank you for sharing.

I have tried three different versions of these types of apps and none of them worked.
They either wouldn't install at all, or if they did they would immediately close saying "XYZ app has closed unfortunately.
If anybody gets one working correctly, please post the results

Did you make sure to move them over to /system/app?
Its a wishful thinking but Id love to see a MotoX style face for the watch. (Dynamic Notifications App mimics this).
The clockface would always be on and the notifications would only light up those portions of the screen and youd just touch and see what you have waiting.
Hey everyone,
So I've been trying to "modernize" my phone, since I'm under the impression that I can get another 2-3 years out of it. So far I have:
-Running 7.1.1 stock rooted w/Franco kernel
-Hacked to include Pixel launcher (works great)
-Hacked to include Assistant (works great)
-Hacked to run Daydream (works great(ish)) -These tutorials are all available online and are pretty simple if you kinda know what you're doing
I bought a Daydream headset and have been playing with the apps. Some seem to work fine, and some won't run, some won't install. This seems like pretty fresh territory, so I haven't found much help online.
I know our phone supposedly doesn't meet the intended hardware specs (thermal characteristics, and GPU speed?), but it sure seems capable enough to me.
-Home screen and remote - works no problem.
-Playstore - works no problem.
-Netflix VR - works no problem.
-Arts & Culture - works no problem.
-Asteroids - This is pretty awesome. It's a demo of an animated episode (not the old game). It has 3D sound, which I wasn't expecting since the Netflix VR app didn't have it.
-Youtube VR - won't install (sideload). A little research, and it sounds like this app won't run on our phone's architecture. As far as I know, I can't force it to run. I'm very interested in getting this to work though.
-NextVR - Launches to blank screen.
-Hello Mars - works no problem. Lacking content it seems.
-JauntVR - works no problem.
-Littlestar - opens to non-side-by-side screen.
-InceptionVR - opens to non-side-by-side screen.
-Etc.. haven't tried very many yet.
For some of these, I wonder... I have my phone "posing" as a Pixel XL. I wonder if it would make a difference if I changed it to Pixel regular instead.
Anyhow, there must be others out there who are interested in exploring Daydream on our Nexus 6. Please share your experiences/expertise or point to relevant threads I may have missed!
Unfortunately I am in the same situation as you are, but I am just as interested in getting it resolved. The Daydream UI and the apps that are working actually work very well. What I found is the apps that are opening single screen are doing so because of our device info. I can go into the build.prop and edit the ro.product.device to marlin instead of shamu the app will open in a side by side screen. The only problem is that my phone reboots after running for a few minutes (even if I am not in daydream). I emailed the app developer of "AFFECTED:The Manor" and he said they will adjust the app requirements in their next update, but we can't expect everyone to be so helpful. We need to come up with a way to edit the build.prop info without causing rebooting. Keep me posted and I will do the same ...
Very cool, glad I'm not alone here.
I did notice that Netflix seemed to have picked out that my device was a Shamu, but luckily at least that app doesn't care.
FYI it looks like a bunch more apps just got added to the in-Daydream app-store. Going to try a few of those, and also trying to get google photos working.
Having trouble with Google Pictures in daydream. I get a message saying there is no daydream content for this app. I tried the same build.prop mod you mentioned, and it did not help with that app. I can confirm it did fix the others which didn't previously work. It threw off my kernel though, so I set it back to Shamu. I didn't experience reboots, but I had it set that way for about 10 minutes only.
Guys remember that there is a reason the nexus 6 didnt make the cut. One of the main reasons being that it wont be getting the vulcan drivers that daydream will need. By forcing it you could damage your device beyond repair. Its a high risk for something that will most likely die out over the next few years.

Yes good point. I personally am prepared for the worst, but yeah, disclaimer to others...
I was able to get it to work in safe mode.. But after rebooting I was still logged in but it's like the touch screen is dead and when I move my phone the picture jitters

We had just been talking about getting specific apps running, so I didn't know if you were referring to a certain app or just Daydream in general. I didn't have any trouble following the guide to get Daydream up and running. You sure you did it right?

That is going to be the key to getting those apps working, it is pulling info from the build.prop to verify it should run in the dual screen mode. I just can't figure out how to make the edit and have my device run correctly. I noticed when I changed shamu to marlin even some of my apps updated (like camera) to the pixel camera, but it is supposed to run on 64 bit system so it crashed. I think the change will have to take place on the app side, which is unfortunate.

Check this article out: http://apcmag.com/how-to-fake-an-android-device.htm/
It's kinda old, but it sounds like there's more lines that may need to be changed besides [ro.product.device].

Yea, I had tried all combinations one at a time and all at once and my device would always reboot. I found during the trial and error that only the ro.product.device was what the app was reading, but could not stop the rebooting.
I have just had CPH2305_11_A.18 pushed to my UK X5 Pro with the April security update and now scrolling in the Google play store is unusable, It's a complete stuttery mess!
I've rebooted twice and still the same, It's so bad It's unreal and not been tested.
This has to be to be down to these stupid LTPO displays messing about with the refresh rate constantly and what makes matters worse OPPO do not have any option whatsoever like Samsung to force 120Hz all the time whether it's in the display options or dev options.
Can someone test this out with the new update, It's a total mess for scrolling in the play store now since the update.
How do we report bugs to OPPO?
Weird it seems to be a little smoother now, I still don't think this variable refresh changing is helping to keep things smooth.
Hey, just tested play store. Yes not the smoothest experience. Seems to get confused between down and sideways swipes. It works fine on an actual list of items.
Glad to see the power button can now actually be a power button. They're clearly listening

Yes it wasn't like that when I got the phone it was smooth in the play store and 100% correct it keeps scrolling sideways even though I am not, No Idea what's going on but it seems a right mess to me.
For sure I was definitely missing that feature with the power button and now they have fixed that at least, I guess they take users feedback which is a positive.
hi there,

Hey thanks for that I think someone else suggested that which worked for YouTube but I wonder if this is a newer version and works with Instagram also I'll give it a go thank you!
Updates seem to always have a processing period where the first few hours/days would have issues in lag. Once the update has finished (including adapting to other apps), it works better.

Apparently, it takes time for the 3rd party apps to adapt to the new update. It is especially true when you're in Beta version.
i agree there are micro stutters gitters throughout the ui on new update. like pulling down notification panel also.

That app doesn't work for me Google photos is a slow refresh rate, but if I use the one from the Video it works great.
The stutter like pulling noticificafion bar down has always been there with the Video app even after factory resetting :/
Has anyone else noticed ads appearing in Xiaomi apps even after disabling them ???
I confused to see that after turn off data access for apps and it continues to show google ads.
Hi @The Mero,
Oh joy, is this another Xiaomi-ism....? ;-)
Personally not seen ads yet in Xiaomi apps, or at least, not been distracted/noticed them yet. I'll check now though, that'll be annoying. I knew there was talk of it, and that they tried it a few months/years ago. And re-called/disabled that feature. Looks like they've tinkered and tried again then....??
I'll report back shortly...
Lister
I'm not sure if they still appear after disabling MSA, can't remember how to disable it anyway . I'm still set to Ireland region wise so maybe that might be the cause ?

I use an app called Blokada, but use the older version, v4.... and generally don't get many ads. Some do still get through, but it blocks in pages and apps most of the time and highly tweakable.
The new versions are a bit lame though, and esp has its now become paidware, if ya get the latest... v4 is more than fine...
