Any inside info on the Mi Mix 2 - Xiaomi Mi MIX Questions & Answers

Hi. I probably would have bought the Mi Mix but decided on the Huawei Mate 9 because it has more LTE bands that work in US (e.g. although the Mix has band 4 it is missing band 12 that would improve LTE service for tmobile) and there were enough complaints about the Mix's camera to scare me away. Indeed the Mate 9 is a good device overall but I do like the bigger screen on the Mi Mix and there appears to have been a little more development on the Mi MIx. Probably cause the Mix uses the Snapdragon chip while Hauwei has its home grown Kerin. Anyways, to cut to the quick. Has there been any interesting information released about the Mi Mix 2 as I may consider it when released (in the fall?). In particular will the camera be significantly improved and will it improve its LTE capacity among other things. Thanks!

The Mix has been a much better device for me than the Mate 9 was when I had it. The Mate 9 felt like more of the same old design idea just slightly bigger. Camera focused device that ran reasonably well, the Mix has everything but camera focused design and so fits me better. There's really no comparing the screens or screen realestate ... in addition the difference between Emui [more or less a clone of Miui] are striking not the least of which theme control and various other personal controls.
Bands wise band 12 is more of a support band not a main one, my device has worked on LTE the whole time I've had it [anywhere T-Mobile had LTE for the Mate 9]. No idea on the Mix 2 but i am not seeing a compelling reason to buy it over the Mix itself when it does come out.

The mix does not have a bigger screen than mate 9 due to their screen ratio. The mate 9 have a considerable larger screen area with a better camera.
If you're in for custom rom, etc go for xiaomi but if you're someone that doesn't tinker with roms and just need a good daily driver with good camera then a Huawei mate 9 is good for that.

Appreciate your thoughts here. I think Band 12 can be helpful for inside building reception. Many people at my job complain cause their indoor reception is poor while mine is quite good. It always comes down to the person has a different carrier that does not support Band 12. Also camera is very important to me. Unfortunately I did not have a Mi Mix to test for myself so I basically had to go by reviews which more or less said that Mix's camera was it's weak point. I may still get a Mi Mix as the price is down to about $600. Just seeing how things play out. The other phone I might get in the fall is the Note 8.

Hi. I do not understand how you conclude that the Mate 9 has a bigger screen. The Mate 9 screen ratio is 16:9 and the Mi Mix is 17:9. The diagonal is 5.9" on Mate 9 and 6.4" on Mi Mix. Assuming I did the math right, that implies that the Mate 9 area in square inches is about 14.9 and the Mi Mix is about 16.9. Please check the width and height of the Mi Mix screen. My estimate is that it is about 2.99 inches wide and about 5.656 inches high. Could someone confirm? Thanks!
EDIT: The only news/rumours I've heard is that the Mix Mix 2 will have a 18:9 screen ratio, the sound is improved using new piezoelectric based technology, and Snapdragon 835 (not surprising)...

I measured the screen and came up with about 2.28 x 4.2.

Thanks for your input but I think you have made a mistake in your measurement or you are measuring the wrong phone. According to the Pythagorean theorem a width of 2.28 and height of 4.2 (all in inches) would give you a diagonal of less than 4.8 inches! The specs for this phone say the diagonal should be 6.4 inches...

OMG I think i really have a bad measuring tape it was about 5.68 x 2.95
I think you are right about the total area!
16:9 ratio using a2+b2+c2
16 x 16 + 9 x 9 = 337
√337 = 18.36
5.9inch = 149.86mm (Mate 9 diagonal screen size)
149.86/18.36 = 8.16
16 x 8.16 = 130.56
9 x 8.16 = 73.44
Total area = 130.56 x 73.44 = 9588.33mm2 or 95.88cm2
17:9 ratio using a2+b2+c2
17 x 17 + 9 x 9 = 370=c2
√370 = 19.23
6.4inch = 162.56mm (Mi Mix diagonal screen size)
162.56/19.23 = 8.45
17 x 8.45 = 143.65
9 x 8.45 = 76.05
Total area = 143.65 x 76.05 = 10924.58mm2 or 109.25cm2

lol. Thanks, that seems about right. It's a little wider than my Mate 9 but a bit taller (Mate 9 is a little less than 5.25 inches). Looks like the Mi Mix is about the same width as my Note Edge. I hope when Xiaomi makes the Mi Mix 2, with presumably the 18:9 ratio, they do not sacrifice the width. I really like the wider screen when reading.
EDIT: Just saw your additional calculations. They pretty much match mine given round off error. Good job!

On band 12, I get the same level of reception as the Samsung Edge 7 my wife has in the same places, not sure how much band 12 actually helps in most areas :0

Interesting. (I'm assuming your are on Tmobile). As I understand it, tmobile has bands 2, 4, and 12 for LTE (maybe HSPA+ and others). So you could both be using 2 or 4 which the Mi Mix has.. Certainly the Samsung Edge 7 should work fine with all of tmobile's LTE bands (or indeed at&t). Band 12 was introduced to our area a couple of years ago. When they turned it on I could get data in my building. I couldn't before. In fact, several years back, the windows were replaced in all our buildings. The windows were supposed to be energy efficient and blocked some radiation out to reduce energy costs. As it turned out, for many folks, they also blocked out phone signals as well including mine. But once Tmobile turned on band 12 (700mhz) I could get data again.

I'm using my Mi Mix in the UK with EE Network, always top signal 5/5. Wi-fi amazingly fast, 4g coverage also great.

Sounds great! I'm pretty sure using the phone in the greater Washington area would be fine. Just a little concerned about its use indoors at my job. My employer provides wifi at work but I'm a little wary of using it.

Well, I don't think it is quite that simple as it depends on carrier's band. I just looked up EE's LTE bands and you are probably using Band 3 at 1800MHz and/or Band 38 at 2600MHz. Neither are used in US.. LTE on Tmobile is bands 2, 4 and 12 (the primary bands are 4 and 12) and AT&T is 2, 4, 5, 17 (17 is the primary LTE band) so you are probably in good shape with Tmobile and maybe ok with AT&T although not sure. Bands 12 and 13 are at 700MHz and, as I understand, do best in buildings. Neither of them are on the Mi Mix but, fortunately, bands 2 and 4 are. So I think I will be ok and am looking into buying Mi Mix if price is right.

Yeah band 12 is an assist band, better building /object penetration aspects. In our case the buildings we work in kill just about all band penetration in the center of the structure and some more hardened areas of the building. This includes almost all carriers. With that said out side those kinds of areas I haven't found band 12 to be the deal breaker for non US model phones. Been using T-Mobile for close on 10 years now, and it works perfectly with the Mix.

You were right bro. EE use Band 3-1800MHz & Band 7-2600MHz. Excellent coverage for me both indoors and out.

When will Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 be released?

Why are you guys so eager with Mix 2??? First one's awesome and just a few months old, come on...

I'm not really interested in the Mi Mix 2. And even if I purchase one, it'll be after 4-6 months after release for price drop.
Only just had my Mi Mix for 3 days. Got upto 7 hours Screen On Time so far. Not bad since it was only charged twice. After several more charges, I'll aim for 8-10 hours.
Once the Mi Mix 2 is released it'll be just barely better, perhaps not even worth upgrading to.
It'll have the Snapdragon 835, slightly better camera and 2% or so even better screen to body ratio. Very minor differences.
There are rumours it may have an AMOLED screen. Should this be the case then I'm not interested.
In the past I've had Samsung phones with Amoled and really hated it. At extreme angles the colours are washed out, that ugly yellow and blue tint and the whites are yellowish not to mention I've had dead pixels in almost every phone having Amoled.

Yeah, it would really be a ****er if they go for Amoled...

Why should I buy this phone over the pixel 3,oneplus 7 Pro or oneplus 7t?
OP7 Pro would be a great choice. 90Hz display, UFS 3.0 and the most important one is the richest development community vs the other two. But be aware of that there is some reports of defected units.

Those phones have:
- Wireless charging (Pixel 3)
- 90Hz Display (Oneplus)
- UFS 3.0 (Oneplus)
- Fast near-stock android updates (OxygenOS updates really quickly and is beautiful, stock android is great as always)
- Minorly better cameras (Oneplus)
K20 pro / Mi 9T Pro has:
- Significantly cheaper price (just over half, in some cases)
- Wireless charging can be resolved with an extension
- Display refresh rate can be resolved with rooting android P (Q only goes to 72Hz right now, but 90Hz support coming soon)
- UFS 3 is disadvantage, but not by much!
- MIUI: MIUI11 is amazing, 10 isn't bad, and the phone can easily be rooted to resolve these
- HEADPHONE JACK!!
- Full screen display!
All phones have:
- Fantastic cameras
- Google Camera App support (powerhouse behind Pixel 3's cameras)
- Beautiful displays, even if refresh rates aren't equal
- Snappy processors and fantastic speed (You won't notice lag)
- Long-term OS support
- Large communities (varying levels of support)
All in all: If you have the money, I'd definitely suggest going for the Oneplus 7 Pro, 7T, or 7T Pro
But if you're looking for a phone giving you the best value for money with a headphone jack? I'd definitely suggest going with the Mi 9T pro.
I couldn't wish for anything more (Except a micro-sd card slot, but that ain't there on the oneplus phones either)
After looking into it some more I don't think the limited frequencies/bands are going to cut it with the Mi 9T pro. I'm in the US and using AT&T, as of right now the bands are adequate with the towers I use however my research shows AT&T is actively implementing band 66 for LTE and I like to keep my phones for 4 years or so. I'm coming from a OnePlus 2 so I need to future-proof somewhat if possible.

Fair enough. I use T-Mobile (Technically, Ting, which runs on T-Mobile) so 2/3 of the primary bands (2 and 4) are secure, only missing band 12.

What's your opinion: Mi 8 vs Mi 9 Lite?

Hey guys!
I hope I'm in the right place to post/ask this. But I honestly don't know any better place to go to.
At the moment I am to decide between the Mi 8 (6/64GB) for 170 € and the Mi 9 Lite (6/128 GB) for 200 €.
I already ordered, received and set up the Mi8 and the good price for the Mi 9 Lite just appeared recently.
The Mi 8 definitely has a better performance due to the SD845 (vs SD710) and has WiFi MiMO, an OIS, as well as apt-X and costs 30 € less (at least for me). Likely due to its release date there also are way more ROMs and Mods available for the Mi8 already.
Mi 9 Lite on the other hand supports LTE Band28 (which will become more and more important in Germany), has better camera sensors, a bigger battery, an infrared blaster, SD card support, a drop notch, an audio jack and, well, in-screen fingerprint (which I guess is nice but not that important) and it was released about 1 year later which could lead to longer software support.
So there's very much points arguing for the Mi 9 Lite. But:
Does the premium SoC of the Mi 8 guarantee more updates over time then the Mi 9 lite?
Is the camera of the Mi 9 Lite really better than on the Mi 8 as OIS is missing?
Is the in-screen fingerprint more imprecise than fingerprint on the back?
Could apt-X also be applied to the Mi 9 Lite? (one day I read about it being implemented in LOS by default)
Thanks in advance for your help and opinions on this question.
Kind Regards,
Seyron
Not sure about Mi 8 but Mi 9 Lite has stunning display, it's the biggest selling point IMO. (Samsung's AMOLED)
And yes maybe Mi 8 has faster chip but SD710 is WAY more power efficient, with bigger battery it will make tremendous difference. And it's not that slow either.. (about 220k in Antutu)
Cant really speak for camera because i dont use it that much but the resulsts i have been getting are more than satisfactory (even at low lighting with night mode)

Thank you very much for your fast answer!
Referring to this post the Mi8 also comes with an Samsung AMOLED, though I can't find much other reliable information elsewhere that would support this statement. Phonearena seems to be the only specs listing website that states it, too, as being produced by Samsung. However it's my first AMOLED device and I therefore can't compare to others. I've declared to myself that my next phone definitely would be one for under 200 € and would have to come with an AMOLED screen, which now, thanks to the special offer for the Mi 9 Lite, is met by both devices.
Yeah the battery point is a powerful one. I get 1.5 days of battery lifetime at most with low usage while I got almost 3 days out of my Redmi Note 4 when I didn't use it much.
Also B-S-G - afaik the most popular developer for GCam ports - is developing the GCam specifically for the Mi8 (among other devices) which almost guarantees a most recent and working GCam version for it. But I only can tell that the image quality is way better than it was on my Redmi Note 4, which on the other side just would be very devastating if it wasn't.
It'd also be worth mentioning that due to the different vendors I'd have 2 years warranty for the Mi 8 (Amazon) but none to a maximum of one year for the Mi 9 Lite (Banggood).

mi 9 lite:
Under screen Fingerprint sensor is neither fast, neither accurate and not convenient IMO;
I get aprox. 2 days battery life under light usage;
Camera is better than Samsung A50/A70 series, but I don think it is perfect;
It seems it is not primary phone, which gets best support (still android 9 vs mi 8 got android 10 officially);
Display is not perfect, but much better than Mi A3
Ambient light sensor (mounted under screen) does not for as good as on samsung phones;
In 1 month I got 3 random phone crashes /reboot.
I would probably go with mi 8.
what I can tell you about Mi 9 lite is : the screen is top , fingerprint on screen ( no need to turn your phone when on desk ) battery is xxl , microSD port , Irda port ( tv remote ) I use Nova rather than miui launcher and this phone is nearly perfect for what I do.
hey. i've had both. i don't know about the band 28 situation so i can't comment on that.
Let me start by saying that I think CC9/Mi9 lite is a missed opportunity for xiaomi. It was positioned a bit awkwardly for marketing. It's evidently not sold very well and if xda is any indication, community support is also fairly low.
Yet to me it is the most "all-rounded" phone from xiaomi in 2019 (nope, not 9t/9tPro, which are very popular), checking off all the marks for me: samsung oled, great cameras front (better than mi9) and back, beautiful build and design of the Mi9, SD card, headphone jack, big battery, good battery life, midrange prices, etc. To me it was nearly perfect (except perhaps a year old SoC instead of SD730), or as perfect as I expected from Xiaomi anyway.
Except the fact it doesn't have strong community support. I've got it about 3 weeks after its China release. I am still waiting for official pixel experience or any AOSP rom to have stable releases. I am stuck with MIUI variant roms which are stable but I personally crave pure android. That and the fact there isn't a really reliable working GCam support, nor do I know of one in development (please correct me if I'm wrong).
This makes a huge difference because I shoot a lot with the phone cameras. Right now with GCam, I get more technically impressive photos from a lower priced Redmi Note 7 than the oversaturated painting I get from Miui's own cameras, and that's from a technically inferior Samsung GM1 sensor.
As it stands now, it depends on your usage and preferences. I personally wouldn't mind the Mi8 myself, especially if it's cheaper, except they are no longer available in these parts of asia (sold out). I think Mi8's faults are that the 845 isn't as efficient, and the battery is smaller, resulting in less run time. Yet it IS a flagship, which means potentially better build, better parts (it has a LRA vibration motor vs cc9's cheaper rotary motor), world bands gsm (where cc9 has a more regional bands selection), and more community support. The camera is an IMX363, same as on pixel 3 and 3a, so it's no slouch: while it has lower resolution on paper, it really just skipped the need of marketing driven pixel binning by having larger pixels to begin with. (Personally I think the apparent race toward higher megapixels as a strategy for xiaomi is completely misguided if not deliberately misleading). Post processing would be what makes or breaks the results, and with mi8 you can get full GCam support. In fact with pixel experience rom and gcam, you'd probably get nearly identical pixel 3 experience for a bargain. While 4000mah battery would be nice, pixel3/3a does just fine with similarly small sized batteries and oled. So it may just come down to better optimization.
oh, the underscreen fingerprint sensor is just crappy and unreliable. There's a reason why it's not as widely adopted. It's not a miss if you have the capacitive ones instead.
I personally would love a well supported phone, so my pick today might become mi8. As much as I love the cc9/mi9lite, it coming onto the stage too late in the cycle after all bases are covered makes it a bit of an orphan when it comes to development. I don't personally use the headphone jack but I would miss the SD card slot. Screens are similar, brilliant Samsung OLED. In fact I think Mi8 was touted as one of the best displays from Xiaomi in terms of color accuracy. If you don't care as much about community support/aosp roms, and is content with MIUI and its camera app, then CC9 is really as good as they come this year. From the way the new xiaomi phone looks (redmi k30, cc9 pro, rumor of mi10), such thoughtful and balanced design is probably going to be a rarity in the up coming models.
Hope this helps
I agree with the reply above. Had I known that the CC9 has no Camera2 API Level 3 (only "full", which doesn't support all features making GCam development very limited), I'd probably have gone for the Mi 8. They were both at the same price when i bought the CC9, and though I enjoy having a bigger display and battery, most of the time I wonder if I'd be better off with smaller ones but Level 3 API (full support for GCam, which is important to me since I've come from a RN7 that took better pictures than the CC9), a way stronger processor and better build quality. The points that made me choose the CC9 instead were simply the teardrop notch as opposed to the huge forehead on the Mi8 and the bigger battery, as I use the phone to work on the street. Also it's a newer phone. But every now and then I question myself if I made the right decision. You'll have to weigh these points and see what is most important to you and your way of using the phone. But either one you take, you'll be making a tradeoff. Think it through patiently so you don't regret it later.

Thanks for your input! I have to say that just recently a colleague ordered and received his Mi 9 Lite and the In-Screen-Fingerprint seems to be quite fast and accurate at first glance.
Camera on the Mi 8 using GCam is amazing. Especially when compared to my old Redmi Note 4.
And as this is my first Amoled it also looks amazing, but I have no comparison.
I also face sudden SystemUI reboots on HavocOS on my Mi8 about once every two to three days.

Wow! Thank you so much for your efforts taking time to write such an detailed and honest opinion.
Talking about the Pixel Experience ROM I took a look into that and counting from release date of the Mi 8 it took about 6 months for a stable and official build to be released (May 2018 -> 25th Nov 2018).
Depending on the Mi 9 lite being released in Sep 2019 one could give it 2-3 months from now on compared to the time it took the Mi 8 to get some Official ROM support. As far as I can see the first unofficial custom ROMS for the Mi8 dropped in Oct 2018 which is 5 months after release whereas the first unofficial LOS build appeared just recently for the Mi 9 Lite. Therefore it only took the Mi 9 Lite 4 months to receive its first unofficial LOS build. So it looks like the support and development isn't that bad.
But yet it's still hard to tell how much (xda community) popularity the phone could get in the near future.
For me the battery life is one of the most convincing reason to buy. It was so satisfying to reach up to 3 days with my Redmi Note 4 without having to charge it once. I know this depends on usage but I always got at least 2 days if I wasn't at home gaming on the phone all the day.
Oh and yeah - you name it - the feeling of the vibration motor is so smooth and from the first moment on gives a so much more premium feeling than I experienced with the one in my Redmi Note 4. And yes the fingerprint scanner on the mi 8 is very fast and accurate.

Interesting point. But isn't this just depending on the ROM/software or is this a hardware issue?
I already somehow adapted to the forehead notch. I found it quite ugly the first to days. And it still is. The teardrop notch definitely is way more attractive. I guess it's missing the IR front camera, though (not that it would be that important/useful). And are the speaker, proximity sensor as well as light sensor positioned under the Amoled somewhere?

General I already regret buying redmi note 9

This phone seems so much better for a better or the same price or lower price
108MP an AMOLED display 120hz even the phone looks much better especially the camera module
good enough chipset
god i regret getting the redmi note 9

i'll probably upgrade in 2 or 3 years to the newest redmi phone if they keep getting out phones like this
this phone is absolutely amazing for the price hopefully redmi note 11 will also be the same if not even better
also poco x3 users are absolutely SEETHING
Using redmi note 7 from 2019, was looking for a good option for upgrade. I guess I got the perfect one, Redmi Note 10 Pro.

I wouldn't say many poco x3 are seething. spec wise is practically the same except the AMOLED and camera. I'm happy with good panel LCD screen on the x3- won't need to worry about burn-in/bleed if one is a heavy gamer. x3 is still one beast of a phone for the price!
Well Redmi Note 10 Pro (Global) and Xiaomi Mi 10T Lite (Global) are the two phones I'm looking for which for the 6/128 GB variant seem to cost just about the same (~265 €). My focus is on:
DualSIM, dedicated microSD, good stabilized video 1080p and possibly also 4k, very good day and ok night pictures, fast cpu/gpu (Antutu over 250k), Fast LTE with Bands 3,20,7,1,32 (8,38,28a), 3.5mm-Jack.
Both devices have those features. Unfortunately no Snapdragon 8 series devices with dedicated microSD and 3.5mm-Jack exist, so I need to stick to this lower mid-range class.
Redmi Note 10 Pro real advantage of 108 Mpx Samsung5K HM2 f/1.9 over 64 Mpx Sony IMX682 Exmor RS f/1.89 needs to be proven by side by side dedicated picture and video test. With GCam probably because of the slightly better processor in the Mi 10T Lite (Snapdragon 750G) it seems possible to activate EIS for 4k Videos. With Snapdragon 732G this seems unlikely to be possible. Also Mi 10T Lite has 3 of the 4 important 5G Bands in my area, could not find info that a Note 10 Pro Snapdragon Upgrade to 5G will be released (Global, the Note 10 5G is based on MediaTek).
So the advantages of Note 10 Pro (AMOLED, 108 Mpx, Radio FM) currently seem less important then those of Mi 10T Lite. I will wait until detailed camera comparisons are available, possibly with GCam for both devices.
EDIT: I need to correct that Mi 10T Lite (Global) according to several reviews on YouTube has no dedicated microSD (only hybrid DualSIM). Many techsheets online seem to have dedicated. This is a bummer and will leave only Redmi Note 10 Pro (Global) as candidate for my next buy.
5x optical zoom would have sold me, guess ill have to wait for another phone

Been using xiaomi devices since redmi 2 prime, their phones are either hit or miss. Sometimes they absolutely cheap out on hardware. My current redmi note 7 has a LCD panel and it shows signs of screen burn. These manufacturers are pumping out phones without worrying about quality and overall experience.

Thing is the redmi note 9 variants have good, stable roms by now but it took months and months to get there, which was an exercise in frustration I'm not going to go through again, so I'm perfectly fine with my 9s and will get this one once/if there are solid roms available with all bugs squashed. Not interested in smelly Mi Ui.

The first stable (GSI) ROM was from sooti. Other non GSI ROMs weren't maintained long before you had to switch to another ROM. That's a pain.
I hope the Redmi Note 10 Pro or newer Poco phones will get better community support.

Need to rant again: I do not understand why in every series and also other brands with a better CPU (Snapdragon 8 series) they omit the microSD slot (not even shared) and in most cases also the 3.5mm-Jack. Is Google enforcing this?
The Redmi Note 10 Pro with Snapdragon 888 (865 also ok) and maybe better RAM specs would be awesome.
Don't worry. Exchange it with note 9 pro, you'll get a wholesome discount of 100$ or 9000₹.

Yeah, but why has it more interfaces-expansion-ports/connectivity then Xiaomi top phones? I would pay more and think the CPU, microSD slot and Jack alone would not make the phone much more expensive (like 600 $ or more). At least Redmi K40 Pro with Snapdragon 888 does cost only ca. 460 $ but has no microSD slot and no 3.5mm-Jack. Since everyone, not only Xiaomi, is doing it I do not understand it: why not use the integration of those two features as advantage to the competition? There must be some hidden policy behind this IMHO
Hah: It almost seems Xiaomi did use the strategy I wanted at least for the Poco X3 Pro (PX3P) presented yesterday! It has a shared/hybrid microSD slot and 3.5mm-Jack paired with a Snapdragon 860 - Antutu ~486k. By comparison the Snapdragon 732G in the Redmi Note 10 Pro (RN10P) has Antutu ~288k - Snapdragon 865 has Antutu ~615k and Snapdragon 888 has Antutu ~730k - so not top flagship performance but solid medium/premium territory, while the Snapdragon 732G now seems more budget level: even the Snapdragon 678 in the Redmi Note 10 (available for under 200$) delivers Antutu ~277k.
In addition PX3P has the advantage of UFS Storage 3.1 against UFS Storage 2.2 in RN10P. But it lacks FM Radio, AMOLED and also has no 5G. The "better" POCO F3 also presented yesterday by comparison is a rebranded Redmi K40 Pro (for Global) with Snapdragon 870 and 5G but no microSD (some sheets say it has Independent SD slot) and no 3.5mm-Jack and also good prices. The Poco F2 Pro at least has the 3.5mm-Jack.
Of course the camera in the PX3P seems disadvantaged with 48MP, f/1.79 IMX582 Exmor for the main lense, but fast CPU and memory are attractive for fast video editing etc. I will try to compare reviews with a focus on 4k EIS and 1080p EIS Video.
It's crazy how Xiaomi is coming up with these phones. Xiaomi is just competing with itself for 350USD and below phones right now

I agree. Some small competitors like Realme and Vivo try to deliver similar price/performance, but because much less models will be selled, much lower community support regarding GCam, CustomROMs (like Xiaomi.eu/mi-globe, AOSP/LOS based, etc.) will be available and so in my case much less attractive at similar price.
OnePlus has left this price territory and other interesting devices from Asus, Google, Samsung, Motorola just miss features and/or cost too much in comparison.
The thing I would like to see on sub 350$ Xiaomi phones is OIS (optical image stabilization) paired with gyroscope EIS stabilization to get top notch videos at 1080p or even 4k and at the same time less shaky/blurry images. But it seems Megapixel of the sensor are the stronger (selling) argument for the time being. In my case a top quality 12-18 Megapixel image is more then enough, I dislike the washed out details at zoom 1:1 of Smartphone best resolution pics on a Monitor screen.

Question Mi 11 Ultra vs. Oneplus 9Pro

Hi there!
Apologies if this is not the right place to post this.
What do people think of the two devices? I'm curious to hear if there are people who switched from OP to Mi devices or the other way around and why.
Cheers!

I had Xiaomi 4 years ago and since then I have been on oneplus 5t, 6t and 7 pro all the time and I really wanted to have a 9 pro but as I saw the price and the fact that these cameras, apart from good marketing, do not offer anything great, I was looking for an alternative and it was mi 11 ultra. I ordered from china and the 8gb / 256 version came out cheaper for me than the op 9 pro. Chinese rom, but it will easily flash a European one after the premiere.
For me, the advantages of oneplus are:
-minimally better screen
-oxygen os
and that's all
Xiaomi:
- the best (apparently) camera on the market
-innovative appearance
-second screen (I hope it will be useful)
Thanks for sharing. The Mi 11 Ultra does look quite good even if it is a bit heavier. I think OP9Pro wins on the looks, or at least the hand feel department.
The 2nd screen is cool, but I didn't find anything in the settings when I was playing around with it in the store. So I couldn't figure out the customization and the interaction of it. It does react to touch for sure, but it was kind of useless in that situation where no notifications were coming in etc.
Wrong thread . Delete my post please.

even the screen is brighter on the Mi11 ultra.
for me its a no brainer, Mi 11 ultra all the way!
OP9PRO can be compared to mi 11 pro, not ultra, and still lose
OnePlus 9 Pro's advantages:
Samsung LTPO AMOLED panel - more power efficient
Smaller, tidier and more discreet looking camera bump
Superior Ultrawide Angle lens in terms of image quality - Uses the newer and bigger 1/1.56", 1.0µm IMX766 vs Xiaomi's 1/2" 0.8µm IM586
Lighter - 197g vs 234g
Current local availability with trade-ins
Cleaner and default bloatfree OS
Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra's advantages:
Brighter screen - max 1700nits
Slightly more responsive screen - up to 480hz touch sampling rate, good for gaming
Largest mains sensor on a phone since the Nokia 808 - Most reviews still pending but it's looking promising
Zoom is miles ahead in both videos and photo capture - 5x optical with a bigger sensor
Can record 1080p 60FPS on front camera and 8k on all rear sensors
Bigger battery
67w wired + 67w wireless charging that charges equally as fast due to new battery technology
Gorilla Glass Victus front as opposed to GG5 on the OnePlus
Ceramic rear back - Defintely feels and looks more premium than glass or plastic imo
IR blaster if needed
Secondary screen depending on your use cases - Notifications, clock, answer/reject incoming phone calls, personalized logos/images to show off from your gallery
WiFi 6e support - nice to have future-wise
Cheaper/identical pricing - 12GB RAM / 256GB onboard storage costs less than OnePlus' 12GB RAM / 256GB storage offering (at least from what I've seen so far)
Bottom line: I'd recommend the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra easily!
Came across your thread and wanted to share my opinion.
I bought the OnePlus 9 Pro on launch day and ended up returning it.
The North American variant of the OnePlus 9 Pro is seriously lacking compared to its variants in other markets. It doesn't come with Dual-SIM capability which was a big selling feature for me personally. The screen is nice but didn't blow me away.
Mi 11 Ultra on the other hand has 1 of the best displays in the market currently in terms of quality/resolution/brightness.
I have had the OnePlus 5T since launch and it has served me well till now. The only downside of getting the Mi 11 Ultra in North America is that we may not get full 5G support. Even the global variant doesn't have most of the 5G bands used in US/Canada.
Does anybody know if Google Pay will work with either the Chinese ROM/EU ROM? The last xiaomi phone I had was the Redmi Note 4.
I doubt it will on the Chinese but it will on the already released fastboot EU ROM. And of course, when it's released globally, it will be on the native global ROM, so you could flash that too.
Google Pay was working for me on Chinese Ron in Mi10 Ultra, so I don't think there should be an issue with Mi11 Ultra.

Question is this phone still the best bang for the buck in 2022

Is this still the best bang for the buck phone in 2022? custom ROMs still working good? issues ironed out? ShOuLd I bUy ThIs OvER a SaMmY pHoNe LiKe a A52?!?!??!
There is no manufacturer which I'd recommend without hesitation. Android is in a horrible state after the manufacturers modified it. For Xiaomi this is crippled Always-on-display, disabled Smart Unlock (Bluetooth) etc. Many restrictions for marketing purposes. MIUI is developed without understanding how the memory on Linux shall be managed: You keep everything in memory until someone wants it, so application switching is fast. The installed bloatware is ok, could uninstall it and thanks to DNS66 never saw an ad.
Samsung in my opinion is even worse than Xiaomi. If I buy a phone, it is my device. I want to be able to see all files on it and do a backup. But opening the bootloader Knox gets triggered. They modify big parts of Android for their UI, that's why updates cost them much effort to adopt their changes to new versions. More effort for Samsung, more bugs, worse experience for the user.
If you want a good Android experience, you probably should have a look at Google pixel phones. But bang for the buck is difficult here.
In summary given the choices I'd say the Xiaomi is fine. You could consider the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE if you don't need dual SIM and additional SD card, because 5G will replace 4G one day.
Imho yes but only when you use custom kernel and rom. If you stick with stock ones especially Miui 13 it really sucks, Miui is too resource heavy for 732g SOC. For example when driving I like to listen to spotify in the background and use google maps even though these tasks are fairly lightweight this phone with Miui 13 struggles to run them without stutters and freezes. If you're okay with running stock android like rom, that is when the SOC shines. It runs much more apps than spotify and maps no problem real fluid.

Note 10 Pro has proven to be still better that the next gen, freshly released Note 11 Pro. Easy to repair because screens are on the 120 bucks mark while the back cover is solid plastic, very nice to see and touch and won't break if you pry it for a battery change. Also the silicon cover is great from preventing fall damage.
After debloating its very balanced on any task, but don't expect flagship peak performance by any means yet battery lasts a lot (on short usage sessions it lasted me 3 days without charging, 1,5-2 with continuous/intense usage). Imho, after years going Samsung-only I had enough with Knox nonsense, increasing sales pricing and hard-to-repair phones.
According to the specs, the back cover of the Note 10 pro is gorilla glass 5, not plastic.
The Note 11 pro review I saw at gsmarena would suggest that the Note 11 pro is mostly a downgrade from the Note 10 pro, except for the 5g bands.
Edit to add: There's a 4g and a 5g version for it.
Yes, still the best in this price range of ~230 USD.
Samsung A52 costs 390 USD lol, not even comparable here

Yeah but 5G isn't available anywhere, plus the more users move into new cell tech the more smooth the 4G is going to be. Would not consider unless you're into high speed hype.

Realization just struck me. I have the Glacial Blue version that, along with Vintage Bronze are in fact frosted glass while there's not much about the black version which seems to be more common here. I got blinded by disassembly videos where non-Pro versions were considered the same thing as for Pro, so I just made a mistake. Guess I will eventually challenge myself to remove it in future whenever necessary, such as a battery change. They still look pretty simple and solid to remove and the glass lens vessel is separate tho (right, Apple?). Thanks for pointing out!
Yes, personally I don't care for 5g. 4g LTE is fine. One thing that both of the Note 11 Pro models (4g & 5g) have are increased 4g bands, too, that make them more compatible in the U.S. (bands 12 & 66). If 5g or those additional 4g bands matter to someone, those are improvements/features to consider.
I also saw replacement backs for the Note 10 pro, for around $5, and watched a video that made it look easy to change. Hopefully never have to do that.

I have no problems with ANX, deep sleep, battery drain, etc. on my RN10P running the Project Sakura ROM. It's cool to prefer one phone over another, but spreading misinformation doesn't help anyone.
Development for this phone really isn't in a good place.
If you look at the latest posts on each of the ROMs, there's either big issues with heavy battery drain, touch issues or microphone problems.
