Hi everyone, I'm brand new to the android wear community as I just received my LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition in the mail yesterday. I was setting it up and messing around with some of its features and I noticed that no matter what app I used (Google Fit, LG Health, Heart Rate OS, etc.), I could not get the heart rate sensor to actually read my heart rate The green light will flash for awhile, but the reading will always return an error. It would suck if I had to return the watch right after receiving it, so I was wondering if there are a few things I should try first. I've already tried a factory reset and that didn't do the trick.
Currently running the official MFD18T build (Android Wear 1.5.0.350911) with Google Play Services 10.2.98, if that helps.

Hi guys,
Just got my new Gwatch R. I cant seem to get a heart rate reading at all. Can anyone else get it to work? I'm trying through "ok google" and "check my heart rate".
Is there a clear cover sticker over the sensor? I can't seem to see one.
I've also noticed that the green light doesnt come on when I try to take a heart rate reading.
I usually say "show me my heart rate"' but just tried check and that worked too.
Do the words you speak appear on the screen?
Try an alternative app for this ... something like: Cardiograph
If it's still not working it probably means you have a defective unit that required replacement. Mine works just fine with both native and 3rd party apps.
are you getting the "tighten band and try again" message? Thats what i'm getting. I got 3 readings then it stopped. Tried power off and reboot.
Thanks for the replies guys, just worked out, I am running a developer version of Lollipop. Confirmed this is the cause, paired with mates N5 and it worked fine. Weird.

It is one of the few things that work when not paired to a phone, so that should make no difference.
Its likely the re pairing that fixed... I noticed issues with mine not working and it was because of an issue talking to the Google Fit app. I re syncronised that watch and boom working again.
I tried repairing, hard resets. None worked. When paired to lollipop it did some kind of firm ware update. I'm pretty sure that's broken it. When hard reset and paired to kk, there was no update applied and it works. I'm now running slimkat and it's working perfectly.
Each time I hard reset and paired with lollipop it applied the system update to the watch.
it happened to my oneplus one android lollipop as well. it just won't work, but i tried with cardiograph and it works.

is it possible to use watch as BT heart rate sensor with any fitness app, such as Wahoo Fitness or Runtastic, as we do with Wahoo/Polar straps, and get continuous HR reading during workout?
My heart rate sensor seems to work just fine and apparently I'm not dead.

Some apps do and others do not. Runtastic does not. I don't know about Wahoo. Endomodo does. Runtastic seems to want to market their own BT heart rate monitors.

I had the same problem a few weeks back .. google fit cannot take my heartbeat but using cardiograph it work ..
turns out the problem is with my phone .. upgrade the Google Play Service and Google Fit works fine ..
so the HW works without having to pair, but the software might need pairing ..

i have a standard watch face no activity tracking apps only the lg heart thnig and the google fit(wich I blocked on the app from showing notificiations)
it happens every 10 to 15 min even when in Theater mode....
i really have no idea why this is happening,i dont use the sensor is there a way to disable it??
android 6.0.1 and the phone is an note 3

I've read about others have this problem with the Urbane 2. Have you tried resetting the watch? I believe this stopped the issue for others in the following thread...... http://forums.androidcentral.com/showthread.php?t=698153

Mines been doing exactly the same since the last update, and not just in theatre mode. I've literally just tried resetting the watch and indeed my phone (it was due for a clean install anyway), but it's too early to say whether it's definitely fixed the issue or not... So far so good, though!
I am facing the same problem for a long time and I've been trying to reset my urbane twice already but it makes no changes
I remember google fit automatically track the heart rate and log it into thr history after update to M1D64X. It can be noticed when I take off the watch and the heart rate sensor light is still on.
After the update to M1D64Y, google fit does not track heart rate by itself anymore. And there is some issue in google fit on demand heart rate monitor. After the heart rate test, it shows the number from previous result but not the result from the test it just did. If I keep doing the test repeatedly without leaving the app, it keep showing the same number. I have to quit the googlenfit and re-enter the app in order to look at the correct test result from the history log.
I tried factory reset, uninstall and reinstall google fit on the phone, clear app data, which all of them do not help.
The only way to make the fit running properly is to uninstall google fit on the phone and use the original fit that come on the watch.
Is it just my watch or it happens generally on LG urbane? Can anyone of you who have Lg urbane with google fit installed test it for me? Thank you.

The permission is not introduced by M1D64Y. It is introduced by M1D63 something several months ago. And I already allow everything in permission setting. Even if I do not give it permission, the app will ask me to allow those they need when the app just start.
This issue has been annoyed me for a long time. And I hope it is a software issue and has been waiting for the update of either watch OS or google fit.
Yesterday, there is an update of android wear on the phone ans update of google fit, after I install it yesterday, after about 20 hours, I notice there is a "sync" text on top of the screen when I enter the google fit on the watch. This sync is new and I have never seen it before. I tried the heart rate monitor, and it works now.
But I don't have automatic heart rate tracking in google fit, I don't know it has been removed or not. I am appreciated if anyone could confirm it, thank you.
I've same issue with Google fit, do not start heart rate monitor. It works only with LG pulse.....
Try the latest update of google fit, it fix the issue happen to me. Install the latest version of google fit on the phone, wait 20 mins to 24 hours for the update to be run on the watch.
In my case, the update is implemented on the watch after I take off the watch and let it charge overnight, around 7 hours.
Has anyone had their heartrate sensor stop working after upgrading from 5.x to 6.x. I can install the 5.x firmware and my heart rate sensor works fine. I've also tried it on the LG watch urbane port and it works. I wipe and then flash back to 6.x (MWD48B) and then my heart rate sensor stops working. I've updated through all the 6.x versions and still nothing.
Any thoughts?
I find it works the first time after a reboot, but if it's left a while and you try again the light comes on and it takes the right amount of time but just shows the value of the last heart rate it detected.

I am looking for a smart watch for my mother. She's in her 70's and I want something to monitor her heart just in case.
*Note I understand no smartwatch is accurate or can it predict unforeseen health concerns. I understand the risks. She's not predisposed to heart conditions.
I've been doing research and it seems like either the Watch 3 or Active 2 are good choices because of the ECG function and also that it has active monitoring for heartrate and blood pressure. However, reading on the forums it seems its only recently that Korea health department has accepted the watch to be used as ECG monitors, and so we have to manually install apks to the watch. Does it require a Samsung phone to do it or can I use other phone brands?
Just to confirm, do the watches have watch screens that constantly display (active display) of heart rate and BP? I know ECG needs to be manually triggered for it to do its measurements.
I am not considering hybrid watches as I want a screen big enough for my mom to see numbers.
Please shoot me any other recommendations, but needs to have active display for your heart rate and BP. I have looked into the Omnron brand but its about $500 which is too expensive.

BPM is also on demand - I doubt any device monitors it constantly. Beside the handful of guidelines to take BP correctly (which is why it's not constantly measured), it simply doesn't need monitored constantly. That said, the BPM seems to be relatively accurate, but still requires monthly calibration.
Same thing for ECG. Honestly there are cheaper wearables that do a fine job of monitoring heart rate 24/7. In my experience, those devices can't read heart rate when in a-fib, so that's kind of an indirect indicator. I think the Apple Watch might claim to detect a-fib. The GW3 is not yet fully baked, so if you're seriously concerned about detecting a-fib look elsewhere.
I'm not a doctor and I'm not giving a rec or advice here. Bottom line is the GW3 is not the miracle device you're hoping for.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong: but none of the Samsung watches actively monitor heart rate other than beats-per-minute (and you can set the high and low rates). If the watch senses rates outside of your settings for a few minutes while not exercising, it's supposed to alert the user. No Afib or other alerts, as I believe an iWatch does. As noted above, the ECG and BP are on demand. There are watch faces that can show active heartrate

I can't speak to that, or how often it updates. I know on Android Wear in dim mode the heart rate updates, at most, once per hour. GW3 does do active heart rate monitoring, but not sure if, or how often, it would update in dim mode.
Best to look at a Fitbit. They display an active heart rate that updates fairly frequently. New Fitbits may also have active a-fib monitoring.
That said, GW3 is the only watch I'm aware of that has fall detection. Combined with a cellular plan that could be a big winner for the elderly crowd. I haven't used it, but I believe the GW3 will call or message emergency contacts if you don't cancel it within 1 minute of a fall detected. GW3 might also have a heart rate alarm that goes off if your heart rate goes above a certain threshold (which is probably what you really want).
As far as heart rate trends, it takes a few clicks in the Samsung Health app but GW3 will show you the high and low heart rate by hour....another click and it will show you the average as well as all the readings for that hour. Not sure the highs and lows are super accurate - maybe only +/- 5-10 beats. My suspicion is that is because it calculates too fast (i.e. only counts for 3-5 seconds, and so that half-beat is the source of variance).

The ECG function should be enough to detect arrhythmia. Don't need A-fib. It just seems like a hassle to install, but I need confirmation that a non-samsung phone can install the ECG function.

I didn't know iwatch does that. I know for a fact that they don't constantly monitor heart rate, but they measure in intervals. That's all I want, but I need to make sure that there's a watch face that can display BP or heart rate on the front without going into the settings.

I'm sorry for being a bit off topic but how did you manage to install bp/ecg with nonSamsung phone? I've tried some tpks, signed them and tried sdb install but I always get -1 error...

I don't really know much about Fitbit. We got my dad one several years ago that also pairs with a phone to show the heart rate history. Most [all?] smartwatches update minimal things on the watchface in dim mode in order to save battery.
You can buy a good Omron BPM/ECG monitor for $180. No watch is going to actively measure and display BPM or ECG.
I don't think you will find a watch that does everything you want, so you'll probably have to accomplish that with multiple devices.
As far as I remember gw3 fall detection only works in workouts. I couldn't prove that yet though...
Well this watch has a lot of potential for a new owner ?

All the ECG function does on the GW3 is detect Afib. You also need to touch the watch button with the finger from your hand to use the ECG function, so it can't continuously monitor you.
I only have a Samsung phone so I can't advise on how it works with non-Samsung Android phones.
