Hi All,
I am considering getting a Mi Mix. I was checking around for general issues or problems with the phone but so far I found only rare issues on the hardware itself. Did you encountered big issues with the Mi Mix?`
I plan to use it as a tablet to play games and read books, I don't plan to use it as a phone or for the camera (which I understood is bad). What do you think, would this work?
Thanks,
Marius
Truth be told, the camera is indeed as in the reviews - a complete misunderstanding.
Apart from that, this is one of the sweetest (albeit most slippery) pieces of tech I've ever held.
The performance is not stellar, but really great nonetheless - including gaming & the screen is a sight to behold.
You need to get used to the speaker during calls. Networking/connection is mostly OK - I get LTE in the EU but have experienced random disconnections. Nothing to be concerned about. GPS & WIFI are nothing to write hime about, but OK.
USB transfer is slow though.
I would still recommend it nethertless, & 10x over a Galaxy S8(+).
Camera is a pain... all other stuff is very good...
4G : if you knwo your carrier band everything will work like a charm...
CPU / GPU : SD821 still make job in 2017... user interface is fluid, gaming is fluid...
About USB, no any trouble here about speed...
BT, Wifi, GPS, NFC, etc... all works like a charm...
Custom ROM, we have some choice here then, it's a good phone if ur are not a selfie/picture fanatic...

Hi! I hope to write in the right area, but if not I ask someone to move my post in the right one.
Now I have a HTC Diamond device, but I've to change it for a GalaxyS or an iPhone4.
I would like to buy a GalaxyS device, but I read many posts about bugs, lags, gps problems, so I wonder if it is a great choice this GalaxyS.
I like android and all the development opportunities around it (thanks to XDA), but it seems to be not so stable yet...
I flashed many ROMS on my Diamond in the past, so it's not a problem to do the same for my GalaxyS, but problems are fixed? The GPS works fine? Maybe not...
Maybe with Froyo 2.2?
iPhone4 is not so open as an Android device, but it's a very stable device!
What do you think about?
coming from a winmo background you're gonna love the galaxy s! its miles ahead in terms of refinements, polish and brilliant integration. The GPS problems are nothing so critical...its more of a sw fix im guessing. I live in India, and i have ZERO problems on my GPS....i feel the bug is something country/carrier specific.
there are many things to love and obsess with the galaxy s....go get yourself one, you sure wont regret it
While I'd love to echo what dreamtheater39 has said, I can't. It's a brilliant phone, but after having mine for just under a month, it's starting to lag like crazy, and in the last two days I've had a ton of dropped calls and the phone has switched itself off/crashed three times in the last few hours resulting in data loss because the power button doesn't respond (forcing me to hard-reset the phone).
All I can say is that, if you do get one, have an open mind. And make sure you don't get locked into a lengthy contract in case things do go awry.
same here GPS working great since day 1

Maybe I got a lemon
Maybe I got a lemon but I can not stand the i9000. I have 4 bugs that drive me crazy.
1. Market Place hangs at starting download. I have to do a factory reset to download an update an app.
2. GPS just stops working or it puts you on a different street when you are using navigation. The worst part is then it has to recalculate the directions twice, once for the wrong location and then again for the correct location, which is a real pain in the pocketbook when you are rooming.
3. Receives invalided cert from a hotspot connects the 1st time then never again. So I cannot use my hotspot at work, my old iphone connects no problem.
4. Does not always switch between wifi and mobile network. Have to go to airplane mode and back to get 3G network. (I tried changing the wifi sleep settings)
Mmmm...so maybe it's a good device, but I understand that who had an iPhone before it seems to be a step backward...is it?
i need to bay galaxy s mainly for GPS , but i heard a lot of proplems regarding the GPS , i need to know before baying is it true , what is the exact proplems and could it be fixed for real ..... and is it work off line or not ... and if work offline is it work with voice navigation or not.... i will appreciate your responces

If you are looking to mainly use it as a GPS unit, I might advise otherwise, as some do struggle with their GPS signal. There are a few known errors, some with fixes, and others do not experience any problems at all. If you are looking for a quality phone that includes GPS, Galaxy is a great choice. If you're looking for a quality GPS that includes a phone, Galaxy may not be the best option.

I run the SGS with ALK CoPilot Sat Nav software. Initial GPS fix can be a little slow, but otherwise ok. Copilot requires no online connection, although it can make use of one for traffic updates etc, and the voice prompts work well.

I use Google Maps. Lock will take about 3-5 minutes on average. I can usually speed up the process by launching GPS Test app, and finding where my phone gets best satellite reception to lock a signal. I otherwise have no issues with the GPS
I use Sygic Mobile Maps, Igo and Navigon. Locking never takes more than 15 seconds, and navigation is perfect. All the problems that existed in Eclair 2.1 versions have disappeared. I'm very happy with the GPS.
First off, Galaxy is a phone (and a great one) with a GPS, not the other way around. If you want rock solid GPS, buy a GPS! The chip, the antena, the optimisation will just be better on a standalone GPS.
Then, if you want to have the addition of a GPS chip on the phone, IMHO, it's a great bundle. I get fast and precise fix and I can even use it to track my jogs (and listen to music while I'm at it!). Google Maps and such nav apps are pretty neat and effective.
So, basicaly, if you need a GPS with a phone, buy a GPS and a phone...
If you want a great bundle with GPS function, SGS is the way to go!
gingerbread updates make the gps better, for me the jvo modem (jvh rom) made a huge difference for the better. it got lock way faster (below 1 min vs 2-3 on js3) and saw more satellites
Between the HTC Sapphire (HCT Magic), the ACER liquid and the Samsung Galaxy S, I had in my hands this last one has the worst GPS.
On my unit it's sometime barely usable.
Some people have good GPS in their SGS and are very happy, but many other have bad units. There are many different fixes in the forums, but we still are waiting for a official one.
The SGS is a good Android phone, but if GPS is really important for you, I won't recommend it. If you are lucky you will have a good GPS, but you can also have a bad one...
GPS is also varying. I thought it was fixed with the 2.2.1 update, but today I had problems. Even power cycled the phone and reset the GPS data with the GPS Status app. And now, indoors, it is suddenly working again.
All very strange.
In truth people have wildly varying experiences with the GPS in the SGS. For some it works perfectly, for others it pretty much is unusable. It is a widely documented problem with several known and possible causes.
At times I get locks with an accuracy in the tens of kilometres for example. Normally I get locks around 30m to 10m however - when I am outside. Lock times are not really a problem but stability and accuracy are.
As for fixes, there are a few, but as before people report wildly different outcomes on each one. Most of the fixes involve voiding your warranty and they may not even work for you.
Honestly the Galaxy S is a great phone and I love mine - One of the best out there in many markets. However if GPS is your primary concern I would strongly recommend you look at other models. At the very least buy from somewhere with a solid return policy and the ability to perhaps swap out for a different phone. You could just as easily buy a perfect SGS as a dud.
The brand new SGS2 has reportedly got a much better GPS unit fitted (it's a different GPS chipset!), and might be a better choice if looking for a new phone, and your budget stretched that far.
The SGS, as others have said has a varied set of problems both hardware and software based. The latest firmware has sorted it for many, and there are various tweaks, if you did find problems.
The hardware itself was more a problem on the earliest units (pe-october), with then having poor contact inside to the antenna, although some post-october units suffer from this too. This can be fixed on all of them by opening the unit and bending or soldering the contacts.
As long as you buy it from a place with a good returns policy... Or but a second hand unit you can test before purchase, then the SGS should be fine... But many would love an SGS2 if buying again now!
Hope this helps
Mike

I would be quite happy with either based upon my experiences . Plus as above buy try and return if not happy .
14 million SGS users happy .

make such test as this guy -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHaIuGZgIxQ
is your tracking as crap as his? mine is, ive managed to make gps lock in seconds to 5m accuracy but that is not helping in precision tracking
hahaha look what ive found
http://www.scribd.com/doc/36341108/CSR-v-Broadcom
http://news.priorsmart.com/csr-v-broadcom-l34y/
that includes 'our' chip also
settlement
http://www.businessweek.com/news/2011-01-10/broadcom-csr-settle-patent-fight-over-gps-devices.html
and what is fun part of this story?
SGS2 uses CSR chip not Broadcom one
whhaaaat you say
SiRFstar IV was announced in mid 2009 http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2350815,00.asp <- sgs 2 - reported working with 1m precision, locking fast and inside no problems with precision tracking
BCM4751 was announced in early 2010 http://www.gpsworld.com/consumer-oe...s-single-chip-gps-mobile-devices-bcm4751-9520 <- sgs - 5m with 15m stepping that was upgraded in nexus s to 5m stepping, no precision tracking - rookie mistakes on drivers and setup, innacurate

Just a question to all the Kaiser users out there.
Do you use the Kaiser with only Android installed as your main phone?
Those that do, have you had any "bad" experiences while using the phone that are NOT caused by network discrepancies (i.e.: dropped calls, bad signal, etc.)?
I ask because I do use mine as my main form of communication on a daily basis, and I had my first dropped call today due to a hard lock. This is after almost a year of use, on the same phone, in different parts of the country with only a couple of days of non-use for screen replacement (scratched/damaged touchscreen).
I know we're all hanging on to old technology for different reasons, wether it be cost, availability, or that certain "wow" factor that comes from completely changing something that was never meant to be changed. I have become fond of my Kaisers for obvious reasons, but if I cannot trust it when I need it I may need to move on.
Thoughts?
I use it as the main phone . I dont have any problems except the camera and the WiFi . Hope to get it rectified soon though :/

Man, you still didn't manage to get WiFi to work ?
Dude my kernel !!
and because of exams i cant get that repaired !!
IDK if your kernel is the issue or not because the radio rom also has a lot to do with some aspects of the hardware controls (phone, wifi, audio, camera, etc.).
Other than checking your wifi.ko file with root explorer or some other text viewer, the only option is to change your rom. I have had a 99% success rate with my Kaiser using only Scoots kernel with 25mb of cache, the 8/29/11 rom from sourceforge and LauncherPro plus (from my personal stash). I have the kernel setting the clock to 500MHz on start up and I usually end up underclocking to 480 for a week or so to check stability against the previous weeks settings.
My camera works, my wifi works, bluetooth works, tethering/hot spot works, but video doesn't (not like I'll EVER use this thing for videos)...

Hi!
I use it as my main phone. After the imap push deactivation i hadn't got any hard lock.
But i use gmail sync, and sometimes i got a screen of death. But it's very very rare (maybe one in a month). I think if i didn't use anything thats related to 3G network, this lock up wouldn't appear.
This is my work phone so it must be stable. I'm satisfied with it.
I've just ditched the BB (hooray!), have rooted and flashed CM9 and working out what to tweak next... I HAVE read loads of posts but still have a few questions.
1. Modem.bin files : there doesn't seem to be a list of differences, and people says some are better than others. I flashed XXKB3 and it works well. Better than others, I don't know. Does anybody know what differs in the versions?
2. GPS - Is there any way to fix the poor reception (have Fasterfix). Anyone modded the aerial or similar?? Otherwise can recommend a good GPS puck for the car
3. Supercharger V6 - yes or no? I only get redraw a bit, but always with Firefox Beta so maybe it's just that app. I understand the principles behind it, just not whether it is worth bothering on the I9000
Thanks so much (in advance) and to everyone keeping the I9000 alive and up-to-date. Still a fantastic bit of kit even if 2 years old!
H.
1. The difference is that some modems have better/worse signal in certain locations. E.g i live in Europe and i might get 1-2 bars with one modem and full 4 bars with another.. so just test them out to find an optimal one.
2. Dont know anything bout this, i think it varies between different roms. But i dont personally use gps that much that i have a need to figuree it out.
3. Definately install V6! I got to a point that i had constant redraws and the phone started to lag, etc. Installed V6 and working sooo smooth now also the dev has made an additional 3g booster script, this worked good for me also, though the speed increase wasnt very big but even an slight speed increase isnt bad , eh?

First impressions
Got my Edge 20 a couple of days ago. Also have a OP Nord 2. The front on Edge 20 looks really nice with symmetrical bezels and a nice looking punchole (compared to the ugly ring on Poco F3). However, I regret buying the version with a white back...

Can anyone report whether a software update has fixed this issue?
I don't seem to have issues with WiFi on my device. It easly goes up to 290Mbps on this exact app. However, I am on a 5Ghz connection, so the problem may be isolated to the 2.4Ghz band.
There is no WiFi problem. First is 2.4 and second is WiFi 6.
I have issues on my phone. Nothing horrible, but still.
When I'm playing some games and I'm on wifi net, I allways got message about wrong connection and I have lags in the game. When I turn off the wifi and I'm on standard data, games are ok.
When I'm watching netflix or youtube on wifi, everything is ok.
