Dead OP3T? (won't power on, LEDs don't indicate charging) - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

Went to bed lat night with my OP3T connected to Dash charger... it was well over 90% charged, but I figured I'd let it top off and be full for the morning.
Disconnected this morning and noticed the screen didn't turn on (usually does when disconnecting, I think).
anyway, won't power on. and I've tried connected to the Dash wall charger, a car Dash charger, and regular USB charger .. each has its own cable... the LED never illuminates.
I've tried the 5 long presses of the power button.. also tried VOL down + power .. no response to either.
When I connect to a PC it is not recognized, does not offer to mount. No chimes from windows as you normally get when connecting a device.
The ONLY sign of life is when connected to a PC, if I do VOL *up* + power, I get a chime from Windows as if it maybe saw the device.. but it never shows up and then I get the eject chime.
I downloaded the "OP3T unbrick Tool"... it doesn't see the device, except briefly with the VOL UP + Power.
Personally guessing a battery gone south.. I normally get 2.5 days/charge, but in the last week had 2 days where it only lasted a day with nothing abnormal about my usage.
I have a remote debug session with OP later in the week (I'm guessing they'll have no better luck than I am), but anything else to try?

In the best of worlds, the battery died on you. In the worst of worlds, the power regulators on the mainboard broke.
How long have you had your 3t? This definitively sounds like a warrant case. If not, buy an original spare battery and change it yourself and hope for the best.

It's about 6 months old (got one pretty soon after the initial release).
Yes, I'm figuring we go thru the motions of letting OP tier2 tech support try and then hoping they will RMA from there.

Please Help!! Xperia X1 Will Not Turn On Anymore

My battery died last night and i charged the phone up and now the phone will not turn on anymore. Anyone have any ideas cause i'm completely out of them???
have you tried takin git out an putting in the phone again?
Yup. I dunno what is going on. I was using sony's cable to charge the thing and the power button was lit up red and now i switched to a different cable and the power button doesn't turn red anymore but the indicator lights are flashing like it doesn't have enough power to start. It may just be dead and sony's cable just stopped working and never charged the thing
Nope that isn't it... it just won't power on for some reason. i hope someone has an idea as to what is going on because i don't
I had a similar problem and had to leave it plugged in for at least 10 mins before the LEDs indicated it was charging.
THANK THE LORD THANK THE LORD. I was right. The crap cable sony uses just didn't charge the phone at all. Now that i switched i was able to turn the phone on again.
Try hard reseting the device while it is powered, might do something if its a software issue.
battery stone dead~won't recharge
I have the same problem. I don't believe ti has anything to do with the cable. The first time it suddenly came to life after a day or two fo being dead, but this time so far it is still in a coma. It did briefly awaken when connected to the pc, but it kept blacking out, and now it's completely gone again.
Could it be that it is not set to power off until the battery is completely stone dead, and therefore it won't recharge?
I think you are absolutely right. I don't believe it allows you to charge it until it is turned on. So try and plug it for like 15mins and try and power it on. Let us know if it works
This sounds like what I have seen on more than one device. If you let the battery go completely dead it will not take a charge from a USB cable to a PC or hub, even if it was a powered hub. We had some old HTCs that would only take a charge from a transformer when the battery had been fully depleted. It was like the USB to PC or hub did not give it enough amps or watts to turn it on and start charging.

Came accross this also in the Kaiser forums - think it has something to do with the battery being absolutely drained, so much that there isn't enough power to switch the current to the battery again.
Never happened to me, so never quite figured it out. But the Kaiser forum had a lot of discussion (and solutions I think) on this. (Xperia has HTC involvement..or so it's rumoured).

yep... I have had that happened to my blackjack 2 a couple times too. everytime I had to connect it to the charger for like 10 15mins before it can turn on again... plugging it to the pc/hub never work.... also happened once to my iphone as well
Hey I just ran into this problem today.
Turns out it was activesync messing with the phone
Ended the mobile device center process in task manager and phone went back to normal.
EDIT: Ok maybe its not back to normal. But it was definitely caused by activesync...
EDIT2: Back to normal now... Had to plug in the wall charger. After a minute the charging lights flashed and i was able to turn it on.
Checking battery status, and its in the red.. I guess the activesync was just a coincidence.
But wow, I left the thing plugged into my computer overnight to charge, and apparently it drained more than it charged?
There is defiantly something extra going on with the Xperia. While other devices I’ve seen fully drained refuse to start charging again from a USB to PC cable and even some power outlet charges. My Xperia is also doing as Nipperos. With an almost full charge I plugged it into the USB to PC cable and the icon went to the little plug and when I clicked on it the status said that it is was charging but when I got ready to leave for the day it had drained down one red bar. It was also very warm. With this, the $800 price tag and the random crashing made worse by the incredibly poor location of the reset button and made even worse by the incredibly poor design of the battery cover. Really, what is the proper way to get the thing off without breaking it? I’m fighting the urge to return it.
Any word on a new firmware?

I've noticed this too... My phone will be on full charge, i connect it to my PC to install a software, then i check one bar's gone... it drains more than it charges...
my x1 did this today. my buddy has a verizon htc phone and let me use hus htc wall charger and it did the trick...
my x1 is a x1i so i dont know if the US. plugs or what dont agree with the phone. but out of 6 cables and chargers only 2 will charge the phone from a dead battery the other 4 would only charge after it was on.
so my best solution for you all is to find yourself a htc wall charger and let it charger for 20 mins before trying to turn it on.
and of course theres htc involvment on the x1. look in the windows folder. all drivers are HTCxxx.dll the comm manager is htc. theres a forum here the htc developers site. this isnt a site for samsungs and other makers. this is a site for htc devices. if it wasnt a htc device it wouldnt be here.
My experience
I had a similar experience while on a trip to Korea. I didn't foresee that a 200mA difference in the current output of a wall socket charger will cause me so much pain.
I had always been able to charge the X1 with my Jabra headset's wall socket charger, hence I brought it on my trip. Not being mindful of the ratings, it can only supply 500mA, which is different from the X1's charger, 700mA. I was using it happily on a bus, happily keeping it alive with a solar USB charger (till it ran out of juice too). A while later, playing with the GPS I noticed my battery power dropped to 20% (2 bar) so I pressed the power button to conserve energy.
Unknowingly, the battery kept draining and the next time I wanted to turn it on I couldn't. The top 2 LEDs gave me 3 red blinks. I thought, "ok, so I just go back to the hotel to charge it with my Jabra charger."
When I tried that, I noticed that the power button gave a constant red LED and the battery did not charge. Taking out the battery and putting it back, I noticed the power LED went off (which indicates it was going to charge) but came back out again. It never charged.
Back home, after using the supplied SE charger, the power LED went off and never came back. I tried to turn on the X1 after 15mins and it powered up, showing the usual charging LED cycles.
Lesson Learnt. Always use original accessories.
Same problem here....
I knew about problem charging totally dead battery with wall plug-in (from previous HTC). Totally dead battery was not possible to charge via USB (from PC). But I have bought xperia via ebay and didn't know the wall charger is not original SE charger... Hope to work with previous HTC charger
Tx for coming to the idea
Just happened to me :S
I had used it all day and Wifi was turned on so obviously battery was almost dead. To save battery I turned off the Xperia.
When I tried to turn it on again it wouldnt and so I connected it to the pc.
That didnt work out so I connected it to the standard charger but that also didnt work. Right now my Xperia X1 is lying unplugged on the table because someone said you should leave it unplugged for a couple of minutes.
Hopefully it will work, I only have had it for 3 days :´(
Also hope this doesnt happen everytime your battery is drained because that would be annoying as hell.
--Edit--
Ok so what I did was I removed the battery and plugged it back in. This worked and I managed to turn it on and right now its charging.
Though when I try to go to sleep mode it turns the display on again after about 3 seconds and does what I am guessing is a low battery beep (Sorry windowsmobile noob here) but then stops instantly, which is pretty stange.
ok anyone know a way to increase the power wattage from your pc to the usb device? (sounds dangerous i know), but there must be someone who has had a similar prob and was able to fix with a bit of tweaking....ill google and come back with any results
okay...i had similar problem today morning..it wudnt start.
so i left it charging for ten minutes...and now it has turned on finally.
i think the battery goes completely dead.

Reboots after I remove the batter

What the heck is going on?
I'm pretty sure this has nothing to do with the ROM, because it did this with the factory ROM, Manila 2d and now WM6.5.
I turned the phone off, unplugged it, removed the battery. I put the battery back in, replace the cover and press the power button. Nothing happens. I plug the phone back in to the wall charger and put power, it turns on....for about 3 seconds then reboots and it would seem that it will do this for as long as I let it go. If I unplug the phone while this is going on, it will die.
The last time this happened, it took it about a day and a half to sort itself out. It almost seems like its a battery issue.
Any thoughts or ideas?
UPDATE!
I took the sim card out of the phone for a few seconds and the phone seems to be working now.... But its been up and running for about 20 minute now with no sings of acting up.

tried to charge the pda all night the light stayed orange and never turned green indicating full charge. tried hard reset and when it goes in to prepare rom it shuts off like dead battery. when i plug in the pda to charge battery and then turn on the phone it freezes on splash screen. if i turn on phone then plug in to charge it acts like i havn't pluged in charger. is it the pda or battery?
I am not 100% sure on this, but to me it sounds like the battery.. and that is a MUICH cheaper option to test out... unfortunatly you ahveto wait for shippng typicalyl unless you have a friend who has the same phone.. I got 2 backups and a stand alone charger now... The other option could be your USB port... I have not heard this specific problem with them.... but I am a PC tech and have seen very simmilar problems with laptops... Usually the first think to for is the power port... Just like out phone, if the device is not on a flat surface and such when it is plugging it, it tweaks the port and it eventualyl breaks... on laptops it is not uncommon that when plugged in, the LEF wil light up saying it is getting power to charge, but it enver charges the battery, and even sometimes can;t power up the full system.. .It sort of sounds like this is what you phone is doing as well.. .If that is the problem the stand alone charger would work (my son broke off his usb all together and now syncs via bluetooth and jsut changes batteries.. he has 3 himself as well) If you search online, you can usualyl find a kti with a battery or 2 and a charger/dockign station for under $20US total. Good luck!

tried bootloader and installed official att rom and never shut off. when it was finished with install same issues appeared. help
For anyone facing this issue I would not recommend wasting money on a new battery as this issue has been around with few users since the Kaiser "Tilt" first came out and I've never seen ANY reports that a new battery fixes this. People have bought new batteries, fully charged their battery from a docking station, tried their friends fully charged battery all with the same result. I had this power down issue a Looong time ago my first week in with the Kaiser and managed a fix and am using the same battery now. Although it seems the battery is not being fully charged it's important to leave it charging until you'd assume it's fully charged and get into bootloader mode and flash an official htc Tytn 2 rom. It should flash completely, and the fact that it does not die immediately as on normal boot indicates it is not the battery but the rom. It did take me the whole afternoon of Flashing, recharging and repeating before it finally kicked in. Also, from reading older posts, it seems most if not all users like myself fixed this by flashing the older official htc wm 6.0; worth a shot at least.

Yup, that is what I had to today (I hard reset, actually), with barely enough battery life to do this.
Then the bloody unit came up and was charging - amazing, really!
(Was using the official HTC 6.1 upgraded WindowsMobile OS)
here is my 2 cents....
I owned five Tilts, replaced four of them with warranty issues ... so i have faced this dilemma on at least two of them.
First see if the USB tongue is loose. To do this try to gently tap it with the stylus. If the tongue inside the USB port is loose then you will be facing rebooting and other issues and troubles in the future. The USB tongue gets used and jerked every time you connect your device to your PC or wired headset. If you are still under warranty and the USB connector tongue is loose I recommend returning the phone ( if you still can) and getting a replacement. There is no easy fix for a loose USB connection tongue as i have taken one apart and it is very difficult to repair or replace and very easy to mess it up further.
So, my advice to all Kaiser owners... be careful when plugging and unplugging your phones through the USB. Do it gently as the connectors are very fragile.
For those that have the above issues, I recommend using a separate battery charger tray, avoid plugging the USB as much as you can, and if you must, then administer extra care. The rebooting will stop if you plug the USB cable to the device and move it up and down a hair then holding steady. And most likely you will not get a full charge or even a partial charge. The biggest culprit to this problem is car chargers, and second, is inserting the stylus by mistake (when it is dark and hard to see) in the USB port instead of the Reset hole by accident.

Xperia Z dead

My XZ died yesterday - I was not able to switch it on.
Pressing Vol+ and power helped and phone switched on again.
WTF? Anyone experienced similar issue?

Yep. It happens when you switch it off and try to turn it on too quickly. Can be fixed with a cold reset, power + vol up.
mines died this morning what was the cause of this
I had Qualcomm Battery tool installed.
Now I have removed it so will see if the problem will reoccur
It happened to me 2 times already. Both times when I was playing with some apps. It must be a software issue.
Mine SGS2 did that too, on some leaked firmware. Had to take out the battery, then.
I just encountered my 3rd instance of this problem... and it's bugging me!
The phone is "alive", but it does not notify you nor wake up. When you call it, there will be a ringing tone, but your phone will not sound nor wake up.
For my third instance, I had a message come in which I did not attend to. My phone died with the LED still blinking (via lightFlow).
So.. do you guys have lightFlow installed too?
I would return the device so Sony is aware of this issue.
Indeed does not sound normal.
Fooled around quite a bit with my Z and did not run into these problems.
Perhaps sending it back while you still can would not be a bad idea.
Just make sure it is not an app causing this before doing so.
Kind regards, Stefan.
Xperia Z Dead
Bought my Xperia Z a week ago and was thrilled with it until it just died yesterday for no reason. Symptoms: battery has drained withing 6-7 hours after full charging, phone was quite hot although no heavy apps running. After full battery discharge it just simply would not charge or react to any action: power button, power button + volume up key: both do not work however long I press them. Dont know what to do, so frustrating!!. Do not want to switch back to iPhone....
Any ideas except than just returning it back (got it in Moscow, while I was travelling for a short trip, would need to travel all the way there again and not sure if they accept returns or exchanges...) ??

I do not think you should discharge the battery 100%.
Infact, I always wait for it to go to 4% a 5% and then charge it.
Did so with my Xperia Play for almost 2 years and the battery seems to be ok still.
If you still can not turn on your phone:
- Plug in the AC adapter using the wall socket and wait for a while.
(I can remember reading somewhere that some devices refuse to charge via USB using your PC if the battery is 100% depleted.)
Hope this helps.
Kind regards, Stefan.

It has been left there with charger for a couple of days now, used both original sony charger and some other mini-USB i have for a different phone - nothing happens unfortunately
That is a serious bummer!
- Does the RED charging led go on when plugging in charger using wall socket?
- Sounds stupid, but did you try another wall socket and leave it to charge?
- Did you try to remove the USB cable from the wallsocket adapter and plug it back in?
(If the USB bit is not plugged in correctly it will not charge aswell, had this with my phone yesterday.)
Kind regards, Stefan.

No, no lights go on, neither RED or any other colors. Charger is 100% fine - it charges a different phone (Samsung S8300) no problem. So it is defenately a problem with the phone.
Same problem. No charging, Hard reset doesn't work.
My girlfriend XZ white died today "power + vol up" helped. My XZ black didn't have this issue yet.
The Xperia U of my girlfriend had this same issue, and it's related to software. Unfortunately, the only thing you can do is return your phone and get another.
Because on this state, the phone doesn't even connect in flashmode or fastboot mode.
It seems to be some Sony problem, so my advice is that you don't leave your phone get 0℅ battery for the first months.
I seriously doubt this is related to the battery level being low.
Mine died 3 times and battery was close to full.
Hell.. the last time it died (this morning) was while it was charging in the dock!!
Sony ought to do something about this!
Here's a related post in Sony's post. Maybe make some noise there as well..?

Mine died 2 times within 2 days I got it. The sleeping error which can be solved by holding all buttons for 3 seconds. I then took it off stamina mode and hadn't had a problem so far 2 days later.

I don't think you have to go to Moscow. Go to the nearest Sony service center, and they'll repair or replace it. if it's unbranded you shouldn't have a problem at all. (Unless you've voided the warranty - box and papers are probably needed.
I did the same with my Arc S which I bought in Poland. (I live in sweden)

How do you know it's a solution? Not seeing the problem for the next 2 days doesn't mean much. I saw the problem after a gap of over 3 days.
And to revive it, just VolUp and Power button is enough.
Stamina? I've never used stamina before.. so you can rule that out.

TF701T suddenly turned off and won't turn on.

Hello,
I was using my tablet Transformer TF701T for the first time in a couple of months today. It had 5% battery or so, so the keyboard dock was also plugged into the wall charger and everything was fine.
Suddenly, during use, the tablet just went totally blank; not even the power LED is on (as it normally would be if the charger was plugged in).
The orange light is still on the keyboard dock, so that is charging. (In fact, after a few hours of being plugged in, the keyboard dock is now green)
I have tried holding down the power and volume down buttons for periods of time, but this has done nothing. I have tried plugging the charger into the base of the tablet where it docks. This did not make it light up either. (The charger has been plugged into the base of the charger all night but to no avail)
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Tom.
Solution
I have the same problem here. I don't know yet if it is a physical problem or a software one.
Here is my explanation and test.
I think at a certain point, there is a ''bug'' and the screen goes black and doesn't turn back on. That said, the tablet is still on. If you manage to press power, unlock by sliding, and lower/raise the volume, you should hear the DING DING sound. If it works for you, it confirms my theory.
The only way I found to fix that problem is to let the battery reach 0%. It might takes 1 week maybe. After that, connect a charger and press power quickly, you will see the red battery indicating the charging of the tablet. From that point,,, I leave it charge 30-80% then power on again. It works fine until the next ''ceasure''.
I don't know if it is related to usage. Pressing power multiple time, or reaching a certain temperature or usage level.
I've also read solutions with putting 2 cables on the battery to short it. There are also applications that can be remote triggered to ''burn'' the battery and empty it faster. I regret I didn't bring that back. I'm also wondering if cianogen could fix that. No more updates or support coming soon, although if I saw a conference in singapore showing compatibility with the new kitkat os.
anyway good luck, I'll keep my researchs.

I'm afraid that did nothing. Hearing no response whatsoever!
I'll keep experimenting. I can't send it back to ASUS as I don't have the serial number.

Asus Memopad (me176cx) dead?

The tablet is dead, it was suddenly. Won't charge or turn on and it's not recognised by the PC. Recovery mode (power button + volume-) doesn't work either.
I know that is not the screen, because the PC doesn't detect the tablet at all. I tried with another battery (my wife has the same tablet), but I had no luck. I also know that the charger and the usb cable are fine.
What else I can do, any ideas or suggestions?

Yes, I'm using the OE usb cables (I have 2) and the OE charger.

I had the same symptoms after disconnecting and reconnecting battery,I hed to disconnect it for like an hour and then three times try to power on the tablet and it did power on. Maybe your battery is dead so after another hour you may try to use the other battery. If it will work, try to connect the batteries together so the dead one can get a little charge (but do some research I am not sure if it won't have a chance to damage anything) then the same after an hour connect try power on and if it powers on immediately give it a charge.

Just wondered if you had tried this and if so, how you got on? Asking because I bought my daughter one off ebay and it was working fine when I got it, am sure I recharged it once , she played it and then again in morning and thinks she played it till battery ran out. I have since tried charging via pc and mains power, and have disconnected battery twice (case was v. easy to remove so concerned this fault may be reason it was sold), but cannot get a flicker of a response on screen. i got my daughter this as she was desperate for an android tablet for mods for minecraft as I had bought her a Amazon Fire 7 and from what I could see just after xmas, it wasnt possible to root it or sideload at that time, and she said Amazon had no mods compared to the play store and she had been ecstatic with the mods she had found for her android for the short time she had it. I do know when I plug it into the wall charger that the motherboard area gets warm if its been plugged in for a while? Bit of a noob on this stuff, and off sick with probs with my nervous system so my concentration and memory can be a pia. Anyway I was wondering how I can find out if its goosed or what I can try? One of the batterys advertised on ebay is about £50 which seems steep to me, esp. if it doesnt fix it, and esp since I have been unable to work for a few years cos of this illness. I only bought the tablets cos I had extra money after I finally applied and got pip, and got it backdated. Any recommendations for a reasonably priced option for her for her minecraft? Should I go the tablet\notebook type route or can they not handle minecraft? Bit confused by these new notebooks esp touchscreen ones as new ones seem to have small amounts of ram yet are v. popular.
Thanks for advice\thoughts\feedback and let me know if I should start ,y own thread...I only jumped on this to see how he got on and then as I do nowadays with this illness, I then jumped from topic to topic that jumped into my head x sorry x

Firt I would try to trickle charge the battery.
BEFORE YOU DO THIS:
Remove the SD CARD. I forgot to do this and snapped my card straight in half removing the back cover.
This started happening to my ME176 as well but of course not until after I retired it and gave it to my mom.
I would start by letting it sit on the charger for about 30 minutes (since we don't know the current charge state and if the overcharge block is functioning). This will give it a slight charge if dead.
Disconnect charger and remove the back cover and disconnect the battery (as posted earlier). Push and hold the power button a few times even though there is no power.
It may take a few tries of disconnecting and reconnecting the battery before it decides to power up, so keep the cover off while doing this.
