I'm trying to root my GF's phone so that i can unlock it and maybe get rid of the bloatware, its an S6 running marshmallow, i can't seem to find anything solid though, does anyone know a way to get root access without breaking the bootloader?

Hello, I am somewhat new here, and I haven't had much trouble with phones before, but I have run into a bit of a snag. I cannot gain root access on my HTC Vivid. I was recently stuck in a boot loop, after trying to flash a different ROM, so I had relocked my phone, and decided I would update to The Vivid's ICS. I fixed the boot loop and everything was fine. I unlocked the phone again, and followed the directions on android authoirty's website to gain root access again. Although everything installed correctly an there was no problems, I cannot gain root access to my phone. If there is any ideas or suggestions I could try, it would be greatly appreciated.
I also wanted to add that I have considered the fact that it is due to the update that I have not gained root, but I would hate to do all that work again, but if I have to I will. If somebody could confirm or deny this, as well as point me in the direction of where I can find the un-updated factory files for the Vivid, that would be extremely helpful.

It was an error on my part and I forgot to flash the recovery.
What did you did you to to resolve this? I cant get root again. Would like to just keep the factory ICS and have root for now.

I actually am using Pirate Ghost's Rum Float Beta 4 right now. It's very good and is almost like stock.
-Meaning I do not think you can have root on stock (to my knowledge). Although I do believe there is a rooted stock release on his website.
Ok, so i googled a bit and do see that some people have had issues trying this, but most of the examples i was reading were on devices from carriers with locked bootloaders. Since the tmo version has an unloacked BL was wondering if anyone has tried this or not?
I was thinking of simply using flashify or twrp manager to install recovery from within my currently rooted (superuser) rom. Most people that have tried using locked bootloaders endup with a soft brick from what i have seen. Just not sure how much the unlocked bootloader would help us in this situation.
I know i can just use CF auto root but was trying to do it without tripping knox really. However, i have never had issues with any warranty through tmobile (rooted, tripped knox, whatever) and with the announcement of android pay, i am way less interested in samsung pay so tripped knox wouldnt be the end of the world... but still curious
EDIT: So apparently chainfire just released something called flashfire that appears it can do exactly what i am looking for. Anyone else looking for the same should check it out...

So, this will not trip knox? I'm currently stock waiting for the 5.1 update to see if it's worth it to keep stock or root my phone. I just want to root it so bad because I could hypothetically get double battery life with the tweaks I would do. I'm interested in Samsung Pay (sorta) but if Google Wallet/Android Pay will have the same functions, then IDC.

If you install recovery no matter what method it will trip. For Roms, Flashfire won't trip as long as you don't flash boot.img aka kernel. You need to remove it before flashing
So I actually don't have the S5, or any Samsung device for that matter, but a friend of mine does, and really wants to root their phone. I had no idea the AT&T S5 was so secure, but it's pretty interesting too. I've been researching for over 15 hours. I may not have been able to root his phone, but I think I have learned a couple things and maybe some possible root methods.
1.) Since using ODIN to downgrade would soft brick the phone, would it be possible to download the stock Lollipop update onto a computer, give the update super user access, replace the recovery with a custom one, or unlock the bootloader from the computer, then flash it through ODIN?
2.) Intercept any sort of OTA update, then alter it to flash a custom recovery or unlock bootloader? I don't know how you would go around this though.
3.) If someone hasn't taken the OTA update that patched the Stagefright exploit, could someone purposely use the exploit to allow installation of a custom recovery or even to unlock the bootloader since the Stagefright bug has super user access (or so I've heard).
Also, I'm sorry if these are stupid ideas. I know close to nothing about Samsung so everything I'm basing this off of is what I've read in the past 15 hours.

The issue is that AT&T (and Verizon) use an encrypted signature key to verify they are the correct unaltered files as well as the means to unlock the bootloader to allow the OTA. Without that key, the tasks you mention are near impossible. They are not stupid ideas at all..just very difficult with all the security checks included.

Crap... well does anyone know how that encyption key is generated? Like, could I theoretically get an algorithm from a ROM?
Honestly for the time being I wouldn't bother with ROMS for that Device and carrier at the moment. Especially being that its someone elses device. Towelroot should be a good start. If Im not mistaken I don't think its supposed to trip knox.

This is the riddle of the Sphinx my friend. I am sure the super devs have tried their best so far to crack it. It has been an ongoing effort to make phones more and more secure, not against the amateur developers and rooters, but against the hackers. These smartphones are now our personal computers, diaries, personal assistants, financial operator, and more. They basically are a person's (and business's) life. AT&T and Verizon have taken the big steps to appeal to the Exchange clients, corporate, government and military contracts. Even the general public want to know their phone is secure. This is what keeps me stuck on the Sprint network.
Have you tried Kingroot?
I successfully rooted my wife's AT&T S4 on OC3 lollipop (supposedly unrootable) with the desktop version. Mobile version didn't work but desktop did without a hiccup. Maybe it'll work on the S5.

Rockin' a l337 with Goldeneye v49.1 + Wanam Xposed and loving life on AT&T's 4G LTE network
S5 on lollipop has a new nasty boot loader.... it was a miracle on its own that they ever came up with safestrap to duck the boot loader on earlier versions of android
Will there ever be a root method for samsung s5 which requires no pc? I know there is King Root but it just says root stragety unavailable, what can i do?
From what I've been reading, there is not current method to root an ATT variant with lollipop.
QUESTION:
Is anyone working on this or is it never going to happen for this phone? I just got mine and have been checking in almost daily in hopes!
no root still
Still no root , i am also looking hopelessly for a root method still find none :crying:

there isn't any way to do it yet as far as I know
Sorry if I'm misunderstanding. I've done a ton of searching and am still unable to figure it out.
Is it possible to root this device? (6055U)? I'm not concerned w/ the bootloader, just simply want to root. I have not yet tried any of the one-click's (kingroot, kingoroot, etc)
I would really appreciate it if someone would please explain to me. All of these sites/threads make it seem simple, just unsure of the U device.
I just got it today from Cricket and am considering returning it if I am unable to get root.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
There is currently no root for the cricket variant of the device, I believe it's mainly because the fastboot OEM unlock command is disabled, so we can't get permissive selinux. I've been able to get semi root with dirty cow but it's basically useless, unless someone knows how to use that to turn off selinux, or get a real root shell running, neither of which I have been able to accomplish so far. If anyone has any ideas shoot them my way.
