Strange problems with the device - Xiaomi Mi 5 Questions & Answers

Hello, first i want to apologize for my bad english , i am not an american citizen.
I recently bought the device Xiaomi Mi5 32GB 3GB RAM
The device arrived with the original global stock rom and i found some strange issues with it
The volume is very low after about week of using the device suddenly the volume decrease and when i am listening to music i need to raise the volume to max(and no, it is not my earphones, i try with different device and no problem)
The second problem is the touch sensor
Every time i plug in to the charger the touch sensitivity goes crazy and i cant even use the device, it happens also when i have low battery and usually hard reset solves the problem but only temporary and only when phone is not plugged in to charger, and yea i tried different chargers the problems stays with all chargers (3)
I tried upgrading and i tried reset all to stock and nothing
I dont want to switch to CmMod
I have no warranty
Any solutions?

Touch issue while charging is due to the charger.
When the charger is defected and sends out variable voltage , it causes the screen to go haywire ..
Try another charger...

I have 3 chargers, the problem is with them all, including the original xiaomi charger that came with the phone.
Also, the touch problems sometimes happens with no reason at all, or sometimes when low battery percentage, so i dont think using different charger will solve the problem

Okay thanks for trying.
Anyone else?

1. Try to update the rom (stable / developer) to last version.
2. Had the same problem at work. in my case the socket itself was the problem. Just try another one.

1. I am using the latest version of my stable rom
2. What do you mean by 'socket' ? How do i fix this problem?

By socket i mean the holes in the wall where you plug your charger in.
About the rom be sure its not fake rom.
(whenever i get any new device i flash rom by myself. Especially if i got from China)
But it also can be a bug so check miui forums.
(I don't use miui)

No the socket is fine and the problem appears in different sockets too.
Btw you are using xiaomi device without miui?
What rom then? And how did u do it?

Ok so I can only say this: touch issues while charging usually means a problem with voltage so check : socket / charger / cable.
To install different rom u need to unlock your bootloader (google it).
Then install TWRP (Guide is in TWRP page)
And that's it you're ready to go.
I use "JDCTeam AOSP" for the moment.
It's smooth and stable and most important clean Android.
I think its better than LOS for now

The rom flashing is from the TWRP?
you copy the rom and install it through the twrp?
Do you switch rom alot?
And what is LOS?
Sorry for all the question as i said i am not developer or something I'm just regular xiaomi user
And btw, what about the volume problem? Can you advise any solution to it?

Yes the rom flash is from TWRP.
Just choose the rom you want and follow OP instructions.
LOS is the successor of CM. You should check development section.
The volume if its not rom related ir could be hardware related. The 3.5mm jack can be bent or something like that. Try other headphones

The volume problem is very popular on xiaomi mi5 and i saw a topic that the user solved the volume problem by flashing Chinese rom
What is the differences between Chinese and global rom?
And do i need to root my device in order to flash different rom such as official chinese or jdc?

Help anyone??
I was thinking about flashing to European rom or to LOS which is better?
Miflash gives me unspecified error (0xfffff)

[Q] USB No Longer Working, How To Get Back To Stock For RMA?

Hi,
It would seem that after 3-4 months of using a car charger has killed my charging/sync capabilities of my Nexus 7 3G It will only charge from mains power/usb power when switched completely off but as soon as the device is booted it does not charge. As I can no longer use the usb connection I am unable to load the stock rom using the tool kit I loaded this flashable zip so I can RMA the device
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2377685&page=1
Although the ROM appears to work fine (Still have the sync/charge issue though) and according to the "About Tablet" info everything appears to be stock, however if I enter recover mode with the power/volume down button I am presented with Clockwork Mod Recovery Menu which I would obviously need to remove somehow?
Can anyone please offer any advice on how I can do this to enable me to send the unit back for an RMA?
Many Thanks

And, in truth, if it's a hardware failure, rooted or not shouldn't matter.
One of the first diagnostics that they generally do is nvflash a stock image to eliminate software as an issue.

Thanks for the replies, I am worried that they will see it is rooted and then charge me full price for a replacement!
And as for cables I have got 3 Nexus 7's and it is only this one that has the problem (the one that has been on the car charger)
Is there really no way of making this absolutely clean stock before I send back?
Many Thanks

Its a Nexus Device... When manufacturers put that tag on a device they know many people will but it to modify its software... I sent my first nexus Back with a very non stock rom on it because of the screen issue. It came back fixed with the same os on it . This was sent to Asus ..
If you have opened it or modified it physically in any way they will charge you. If its a software issue they prob will not but have a right to charge you..
but you can get back to stop.. D/load the stock image from google. to the device boot into cwm and flash it.. You will now be stock. You can then d/load stock recovery and flash that with cwm. So recovery will be stock..
Call ASUS To confirm about the above. they are quite open to talk to you .
Good Luck

Obviously not if it charges his device. Read the OP..!
Another option is to pay ~$70 to a repair shop for them to order a new micro USB/3.5mm module and replace it.

Hi,
This appears to be a software issue as the port will allow usb/mains charge when powered off but not when powered on, (alot of reports from other users on this after using Amazon cigarette lighter chargers like me! ) the cables/chargers have all been changed and the port itself seems fine and has never been damaged in any way but sadly I cannot use fastboot due to the USB connection issues...
Just trying to find a way to completely stock the device before sending back

Hi,
Thanks for that info, I would prefer to send back stock just to cover all bases!
I have the original stock rom from google but it is in TGZ format and I thought I could only flash ZIP format with side loading? where would I put the Standard ROM TGZ File on the device to load with CWM?
Many Thanks
The tgz format is a compressed container like zip. You can upcompress it, and I think uncompress something inside it again you will eventually see .img files that you can you to go back to stock

Maybe it's due to a specific app.
Unlock bootloader then Flash Any Custom rom. Or flash MIUI via Fastboot method and check the crash. Most probably you have done a Dirty flash instead of Clean flash.
Wipe data/system/cache/dalvik then flash your ROM for a Bugless experience :highfive:
i did Clean flash in all of tham.
ill just try to go for the bes custom rom that is simple. im not looking for customisation at all, just want the phone to work with minimum features, stable...
if you know witch is the rom for me that could help :]
im now going to check who crash less frequently
cuse miui reboot sometime 4 times in 1 minute
Can you tell me what you did? Also was your internal storage intact or was erased? Because I am also having the same issue.

MI A2 Charge Mode Only When Connected to PC

Recently I noticed that my MI A2 couldn't connect to PC in MTP to backup some photos. This didn't happened before because I was successfully flash Havoc OS and did backup photos several times ago.
I also tried to connect my phone while in TWRP but it didn't detected in Windows. I checked Device Manager while trying to connect the phone to PC there is no Android Phone device popped up like usual.
What I have tried:
- Re-flash the ROM (didn't work)
- Change the cable (didn't work even with the original cable included with the phone)
- Change to other PC (didn't work)
- Enable USB debugging (didn't work)
Additional Note:
- MIA2 in HavocOS 2.8 latest build [Android Pie]
- Windows 10 Build 1903 latest update
- Xiaomi Driver is installed as I frequently flashing my phone.
- Somehow Headphone still working using Type-C Adapter to 3.5mm
UPDATE (5/1/2021)
Hi All,
Just want to give you quick update on what happened to my MI A2 at the moment.
After looking for a fix in several month and no solution found at all, I bought a new port connector.
I tried to swapped the port myself but the problem still exist with the new port.
I even tried to use port connector for Redmi 6X (its similar but have a slight different) and yet the problem still there.
My final conclusion that this problem may be located on its mainboard. Now I have change my phone to Mi 9T Pro and put the MI A2 on my desk drawer. The phone still works and charging normally but I can't use it for work because I need it to able connect to PC.
I had the same issue with stock pie, replacing the usb sub-board didn't solve anything, I'm still looking for a solution.

I just noticed this recently. The weird part is the headphone still works using adapter type-C to 3.5mm so I doubt it was physical problem with the port more like software thing.
same too

i got same issue, its after update with build v10.0.13. before that version usb working fine, when i attach usb cable its can show usb option. now its only show grey (all disable). i think its bug in rom
I had this issue as well but after trying other ports it worked for me. The strange thing is that, the previous known failed ports will always not allow me to use MTP after PC reboots.
My PC is a Ryzen build if that of any help. I do not face this issue with my laptop which is an Intel build.

I think it is worth trying to connect USB OTG and see if it works. I am curious about it.
It may also be possible that your ROM or maybe something along the way have made this issue. But hey this is just a guess. I am just as clueless [emoji853]
Maybe i would try
• Flash stock partitions except boot & system
• Format Data
• Revert back to stock (not really a [desirable] solution)

Did you already clean your usb port?
You can carefully do that with a toothpick or something.
Sounds a little silly, but really there could be a lot of dirt in there. Resolved many connection and charging issues that way already.

Hi thanks for the suggestion but the port look clean to me. I borrowed my brother Pocophone charger somehow it keeps on off with the charge, but when i used mine its fine
It is not a hardware issue it is a kernel issue...upon boot a "chargeonlymode" file is created in sbin folder... I am a rookie at this but after a month of digging, 2 mia2's and 4 charger modules later, something is focing our phone into chargeonlymode. If i can find the solution I will post it

I'm still using my phone just fine though but I still cannot connect it to PC.
I have the same problem but the file transfer works and the charge does not, I can't get back to stock because arb4 is active now is a mi 6x

Do I have a dead Mi9

So have I done something that apparently no one else has on XDA.
Hard bricked my Mi9?
I have heard that you cannot go back from Miui 11 to Miui 10 on China based models or try an install a rom with a locked bootloader.
None of those things are the case here as this is a global Mi9 purchased within New Zealand.
None of the usual tricks work. No battery light black screen no input response from buttons.
Appears like a total hard brick an I have no idea why. Does anyone have any suggestions or experience with hard bricked Mi9s that have bricked for no reason after I did standard things an the bootloader was unlocked?

Now its time to fix the hard brick.
Charge your phone for 30-40 minute. No problem if it doesn't show.
On your laptop or PC
Go to this site and download the stock firmware and mi 9 flash tool
And adb driver too
Then connect to PC
And do what ever mentioned there

Hi, thank you for your reply. I can't follow those directions because i can't put my phone in fastboot or recovery mode since it doesn't respond to any combinations of buttons.

No. No luck with my Mi9. And now ive bricked my Redmi note 8 pro.
Looking at the redmi note 8. Easier to flash an mod an not so costly to replace lol.
Not as power ful as other cells but has many roms already. Around $360NZD. the Redmi note 8 pro was $502 an my Mi9 origionally was $860.
I dont need a flagship. Just something good that I can change to suit myself.

Are you using the side usb port? Only that works for fastboot.

Dont have the side port
Sooo my phone is unrootable because there isnt a side port???.....
There will be a side port if it's Rog 3. It's difficult to make out at first, as it is covered snugly with a rubber cover. Here's a pic with the side port cover removed.

Not true. The Tencent version, the side port is covered and doesn't work. I too am having this problem and have tried literally everything I know of and I can't get it to work. I'm gonna try to use Magisk and root it, then use a flashing app to see if I can flash TWRP and then try to change from CN firmware to Global.......

I have a Tencent version.
The side port is covered with a removable soft cover just like every other ROG 3 phone. There is no design difference in this regard between the ROG 3 variants.

Yep, I stand corrected.....I actually got back on here to say I was wrong but you beat me to it. The place I bought it from told me that, and that it was the reason the aero fan didn't come with it! Then when I checked online, I had to see the only damn site with a chart that said the same thing (a Malaysian site)......after checking some others (because this cost me a LOT of time, and I wasn't happy lol) no other site I checked said there was any difference there. I found out because after exhausting every possible thing, I tried connecting the USB to the side one. Using a standard cable, it still didn't work. Then I tried it with the included cable eventually, and lo and behold.....fastboot recognized it and I was able to flash the latest WW version, flash TWRP, Magisk and root it, change the fingerprint, no problems. I had a hell of a time with drivers as for some reason most didn't work and I had to update it eventually, while it was still connected with the one from Google. Only way it would work and had to do it every time I connected. Glad that's over with lol. Cheers! Kila
