T-Mobile LG L90 D415: Bricked - Need help, will pay!!! - LG Optimus L90

I have a T-Mobile version LG L90 D415 that I'm trying to flash with Lineage OS 14.1 but am having the worst luck.
Here's what I've got so far:
Rooted via DP Tools
installed flashify
installed TWRP using flashify (when running twrp it gave me some message about not being permanent...??)
flashed lineage os
forgot to flash gapps
tried to get back to twrp but its on stock recovery now
root missing
phone boots to lineage os but thats it
I wanna start over and recover this phone and do everything the right way. DP tools cant root the phone anymore and gets stuck after it pushes the files, says waiting for LG Serial port...
can someone please help?

flash kdz in download mode and startover. Search for tutorial on this forum.

I followed the guide, it doesn't work.
The phone isn't recognized by the computer in download mode, and the flash program doesn't recognize the phone and doesn't proceed.

on top of all this, my computer BSOD when I turn on ADB Debugging and set the USB to "File Transfer"
not sure how to fix BSOD
Also, what is software download mode? Is that same as Download Mode when I turn off phone and hold up key and plug in usb cable?

So you said it boots up to lineage OS right? if so go to setting and scroll down to developer options. if you don't see those then you have to go to ABOUT PHONE and tap build number 7 times. Then after you get into developer options, there is a ADVANCED RESTART which is usually unchecked . Check that and then download twrp from this link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-l90/development/recovery-twrp2-7-1-0lgl90w7xxshoxx-t2826150 once you have it downloaded flash is using flashily. Then hold down the power button until you see the menu pop up with power of restart.. tap on restart and you will see many options and you need to tap on recovery. Once your'e in your recovery mode you can flash anything you want from there on it should work fine. Now you said you don't have any root access so you can't flash. If this is true then you need to flash the recovery with ODIN when flashing from Odin search on the internet on how to do that. I am also attaching the super su that you can flash using recovery this is for lineage OS only. I never use the Dp tools they never work my lg d415 for some reason. Hope you get your phone fixed. Sorry for my bad English.

This plus what you said about the bsod. You need to uninstall existing lg mobile driver, and reinstall ones found from guides.
Search how you can go in device manager and see ghost devices. Find the android devices that uses the lg driver which crashes your computer, uninstall the driver there and restart over.
edit: Just noticed you have a working lineage os. I think you might need to reflash laf partition to get the lg download mode back. Backup before you proceed.

I have a backup of my laf from when I first started. How do I flash it?
Can you point me towards working LG drivers?

You don't need to reinstall the drivers on windows 10 for adb, just uninstall the drivers, unplug and then plug back in your phone with adb enabled to reinstall the drivers automatically with windows 10. Also when you try to boot into download mode do you see something about fastboot.

I tried what you said, uninstalled all the old drivers and simply plugged in the phone with adb debugging on. Seems that computer no longer has bsod when setting the phone to usb file transfer while having debugging on
in terms of download mode, i attached a screenshot of what comes up. When trying to run root, the dialog box gets stuck at "waiting for LG serial port...." then "waiting for device"

To flash the laf to get download mode back do fastboot flash laf.IMG where laf.IMG is the filename of the laf backup.

Also, could you please run fastboot OEM device-info and send me the result of that command.

after running the fastboot OEM device-info command, i get < waiting for any device >
it just stays there...
if i do adb devices, i get

Did you try reflashing twrp in flashify already?
---------- Post added at 11:31 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:22 PM ----------
While booted into lineage, also try running
adb shell
su
dd if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/laf of=/sdcard/laf.img
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/laf
After that try rebooting into fastboot and flashing twrp.

[Q] A Unique Problem...

Hello fellow One users,
I have browsed threw most if not all the HTC One problems on the site and google to try and figure this thing out as i KNOW how people hate Duplicated Threads... Anyways i hope someone can help me with this situation.. Thanks
I received this phone from a friend, ive attached pic showing the state he gave it t me in... According to him he was able to get the phone into Bootmode .. when he gives it to me AFTER TRYING TO RUN A RUU without S-OFF ...
Heres my problem... Basically the phone will not power on, into anything... I try to power on i get this... either a red flashing LED inside the top speaker... or a solid RED led when plugged into the power outlet .... Then ill try to boot into Bootmode and i get this ... Home and Back buttons flashing with no LED on, after the Home and Back buttons flash 10 times i then get a solid red LED , plugged in or not... ive even trying to just charge the device ( I had it charging for a week CONSTANTLY ) no results .. i even try to run a RUU ( for luck i guess ) but no cigar... all i get is an error saying the device has less then 30% battery .. i don't know how it can tell that even tho my PC actually doesn't even see the phone EVER connect.
If anyone can give me ideas and solutions on how to go about fixing this please do as i have tried almost everything. I am very familiar with android and electronics so please don't noob me.
Thank you and i do apologize if i do respond with Noobish questions and the HTC One is a newer device to me.
Thanks
**UPDATE**
Got it to boot into bootloader and it also boots to the HTC screen as shown below.... now i try to run adb commands but the PHONE IS NOT AUTHORIZED...What do i do now??
RED light solid = Not enough battery - at least 30% is required other the security measures will prevent you from flashing RUUs.
Device unauthorized? Try to check and uncheck the USB Debugging option in the device, if possible. If not, you can plug in and out the USB and the device should show up a messagebox to ask you if you authorize the computer, but for that Debugging must be checked AFAIK.
delete the computers adb key: rm /data/misc/adb/adb_key on device
(I have no idea if in case of multiple authorized computers the additional keys are in a new line of the file or if they are in new files. I have only 1 computer.)
stop all adb processes "killall adb" in linuxoids and "taskkill /IM adb.exe" in windows or simply the taskmanager in both.
restart the phone
toggle usb debugging off and on
connect
use adb
click authorize

If ADB does not work, you can still use fastboot commands.

I can't access the device itself as there is no OS on the device, so I also don't know if I can even get the device authorized...
If Fastboot commands still work, I should be able to flash a rom to the device correct??

1- RUU will not work with S-On and UNLOCKED bootloader, with S-On you need to relock bootloader for RUU to work -> but don't do that yet!!
2- for future reference: Force reboot: press and hold POWER + VOLDOWN (under a bright light, not kidding!!), after about 5 seconds or so buttons should start blinking, and after 30 seconds or so, the phone will reboot, let go of POWER, but keep holding VOLDOWN to get back to bootloader.
(you may need to try 2 or 3 times to get it right)
3- what adb version are you running and what OS do you have
4- start by posting a "fastboot getvar all" (excluding IMEI and s/n) and what do you ultimately want to achieve?

I am running Windows 8 64bit with the latest adb version. also all i have are USB 3.0 ports
and ive tried to run the command "fastboot getvar all" but it just says waiting for device when the device is in fastboot usb mode...
Ok guys, so because i had windows 8.1 and only USB 3.0 Ports i followed this guide to fix the fastboot issue... http://plugable.com/2012/12/01/windows-8-and-intel-usb-3-0-host-controllers...
it now connects to fast boot, after running the fastboot command "fastboot getvar all" i get this in return... (refer to pic)
so any ideas how to RETURN THE PHONE TO STOCK

1- Win8.1 doesn't play nice with hboot 1.44, so recommend you use a Win7 or Ubuntu Live USB.
2- why don't you just flash a custom recovery and install a custom ROM? because with S-On, you can only get your bootloader to say RELOCKED, not the original LOCKED
And I'll leave this here just in case:
There is a newer RUU for your version here
but I personally would not use it, because you can still achieve S-Off on hboot 1.44

ok sorry for the delay but here are some snaps of the issues im having. Every time try to push something to the device, it gives me "FAILED <remote:not allowed>
then it even says that the bootloader is not unlocked ..how is that if it clearly states in the bootloader menu *** UNLOCKED ***??
Any ideas on how to fix this? if the HTC One only had an SD Card Slot this could be so much easier ...

hmm , and you want to s-off your device?
are you trying to brick your device in the 20 commands or so you ran (with the exception of fastboot devices), none of them are correct... either mistyped or completely inappropriate.
fastboot commands are not a joke, don't treat them as such, or you will end up bricking your phone. randomly typing fastboot commands is not a good habit.
Now please do some reading and research, but here's some quick info: Your phone has three states
1- bootloader (this is where you use fastboot.exe to flash things appropriate for bootloader mode flashing, such as a custom recovery)
2- recovery (with custom recovery you can use adb.exe commands, and install ROMs)
3- ROM (if you have USB debugging enabled you can also use adb.exe commands here)

Wrong.
you use fastboot to flash
* recoveries
* erase cache
* ruu.zip packages
* firmware.zip packages
you use a custom recovery (such as TWRP 2.6.3.3), to install a <name of ROM>.zip
you cannot "fastboot flash ..." a custom ROM.ZIP.
PS: I seriously recommend you don't do these commands at 2am when you're tired, that could end badly

My issue is what proper command I use to load the rom to my device for flashing threw the recovery??

Finally after 6 hours of sitting at my laptop, browsing the internet for answers ... it was so simple ...
1. adb wasnt working because when the device was connected in recover mode, Windows 8 had installed the "My HTC" drive ... To fix it all i did was uninstall that driver "My HTC".. refresh Device Manager and look under "unknown Devices" ... and install the Samasung OEM adb device driver in its place ...BOOM working adb!?
Next i followed your steps to push the rom via adb and it finished successful.
C:\Users\Peter\Android>adb devices
List of devices attached
FAXXXXXXXXXX recovery
C:\Users\Peter\Android>adb push rom.zip /sdcard/
4739 KB/s (1017950778 bytes in 209.742s)
C:\Users\Peter\Android>adb shell md5sum /sdcard/rom.zip
06c863ce41b0d5001290737a31e198a1 /sdcard/rom.zip
C:\Users\Peter\Android>
3. i check the "md5sum" and got "06c863ce41b0d5001290737a31e198a1" ... File i pushed was Android_Revolution_HD-One_9.4...
4. Flashed and device is now working perfectly :victory:
Thank You so much and for being so patient with me aha ... you deserve a thanks and a donation for all your help :highfive:

fastboot error lg optimus l90 D415

So I have an LG D415 and I don't know if it's bricked, softbricked, hardbricked or whatever, i'm really a noob and would really appreciate some help, I've included a picture, that shows what pops up when I try entering "Download mode" but I've already tried flashing the KDZ files, I've tried factory resetting the phone, nothing seems to work, phone always shows 0% battery even after charging for over an hour, and so I tried getting into the fastboot commands and stuff, I extracted the laf dz from the kdz files, renamed it to laf.img, put it in the same folder as my fastboot drivers (not even sure if I have the correct drivers) I open up command prompt inside the folder, type in "Fastboot flash laf laf.img" and the following appears in cmd:

sending 'laf' (13312 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.586s]

I feel like I am missing something or missing some steps, I've got the laf partition, the fastboot drivers(I think) phones in fastboot mode even though at the top it says download mode, no idea as to what to do or try next, if anybody could help it would be very much appreciated...

What ROM are you using? I think you should try flashing the bootstack with recovery from here >> https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-l90/development/bootstack-kk-l-l90-t3118632. When you flash the bootstack, recovery gets rewritten with an old version of twrp so you probably want to have an IMG of twrp to update to the latest version.

I'm not aware of what ROM the phone is using, and I don't even know if the bootloader is unlocked, or if the phone has TWRP or root, and I don't want to mess the phone up even more (if that's even possible) phone was a friends and he gave it to me, said I could keep it if I could fix it, and i don't currently have a working phone, so it would be really nice to fix this one, i'm really a noob when it comes to this stuff, but I'm willing to learn if that's what it takes to fix the phone, I also included a link that shows a picture of the information that appears when i type in "fastboot getvar all" in command, not sure if that could help you

So the first to do is run the command fastboot oem unlock with the phone connected to your computer with fastboot. Then download the latest twrp from https://dl.twrp.me/w7/twrp-3.1.1-0-w7.img and flash it with fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.1.1-0-w7.img making sure that you move the twrp IMG to the directory where fastboot is unless fastboot is on your path where you can just flash it from cmd in the downloads folder. After that, try to factory reset the phone and it should boot into twrp where I would flash the lollipop bootstack linked above with adb sideload "zip name here" where you put the full filename of the zip in zip name here and remove the quotes, boot into the download mode thing which is fastboot and reflash recovery with the instructions above.

Also, are you trying to save any data?

Flash twrp by first moving the twrp IMG to where fastboot is and running fastboot flash recovery TWRP_2.8.0.0_26.09.14_L90.img with the phone in the download mode thing and connected to the computer.
Also, could you please re-run fastboot getvar all even if you have already run it because its output probably changed and send me an image of what it shows.

After that, run fastboot reboot recovery to reboot into recovery. Press the advanced button and then press the button that says adb sideload with the touchscreen and start it. Then to install the zip run adb sideload zipname where zipname is the name of the zip you want to flash.
After that boot back into the download mode thing to reflash recovery and then reboot into recovery with fastboot reboot recovery. After that I would flash the zips for a ROM and optionally gapps with adb sideload.

Fire HD Tate red bricked

Hi,
I am really hoping someone can help. My first attempt at upgrading my Fire HD using flashfire has red bricked it before it even got as far as installing twrp.
I bought a fastboot/factory cable and a few times it has showed the fastboot screen but adb does not list the device and so the tools just say waiting for device.
I have tried multiple versions of the adb usb drivers but none have worked so far when using the fastboot cable. I am using Windows 10 laptop but I also tried win7 desktop with the same lack of results.
I am stuck.
There seems to be as many ways to fix this as there are users who have bricked their kindle.
adb doesn't work in fastboot mode. Try fastboot devices. If you want out of fastboot try, fastboot reboot. Remove the cable before it reboots.
While in fastboot you could flash TWRP. Make sure the img file is in the directory you are in. Type fastboot flash recovery twrp(whatever filename).img
You can get into recovery by holding down the power button and volume up. Let go when the blue fire shows up.
The volume button is broken so it does limit my options.
I just found that to get into Fastboot I have to plugin to the laptop with the fastboot cable and then switch on the KFHD immediately.
> fastboot devices
returns nothing.
> fastboot reboot
says <waiting for device>
Same with the fastboot flash recovery command using either cable.
Then using the normal usb cable I opened Win Device Manager and under the Android Device entry I changed the driver to Android Bootloader Interface. This seems to have helped.
>fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
product: Tate-PVT-08
finished. total time: -0.000s
>fastboot -i 0x1949 erase boot
erasing 'boot'...
OKAY [ 0.703s]
finished. total time: 0.703s
So I am currently using ULTIMATE KINDLE FIRE HD UNBRICK TOOL to erase everything and hopefully I can install something afterwards.
I will report back if I succeed.
Many thanks for helping.
It took 2 attempts but it has just finished wiping and installing the os (version 7.3.0 which is lower than the one I had before I think) and has successfully rebooted. Phew!
Thanks again for pointing out my newbie errors.
I now need to work out how to do this properly and which version I can safely update to without bricking the device. The LineageOS website is a bit contradictory. Maybe CM will be better ?
I'm running a cm12 nightly build. Anything more and you lose the camera and HDMI output.
Which bootloader driver did you install? By that, I am referring to the hardware I'd.

you have to put -i 0x1949 in front of ALL your commands. Its a vendor ID for amazon and its the only way to fastboot to the device. (example: fastboot -i 0x1949 reboot, fastboot -i ox1949 flash recovery yeeee.img, etc.)
just trial and error it.
Also to use TWRP (temoporarily) run "fastboot -i 0x1949 boot [path to recovery image]"
On latest platform tools the -i option is gone so where can we get the older fastboot executables?

Downloads: https://asineth.me/post/android-rav/
Flashing:
1. Extract the zip and open a shell with ADB and fastboot.
2. Reboot your device into fastbootd mode.
Code:
fastboot reboot fastboot

Code:
fastboot set_active a
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash product product.img
fastboot flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
4. Wipe userdata.
Code:
fastboot -w
If you are on the Moto G8/G Fast and your display cutout is misbehaving, enable your overlay like so:
Code:
adb shell cmd overlay enable org.omnirom.overlay.moto.rav
I've tested with Magisk v20.4 & OpenGapps Pico, to flash, temporarily boot into TWRP with fastboot.
Working:
Display
Touchscreen
Wi-Fi
Bluetooth (including audio)
Headphones via 3.5mm
Internal Speaker
Moto Actions
Calls/SMS/LTE/VoLTE on Verizon
Issues:
Vibration motor is broken
Stock wallpaper animation (fixed by changing it)
Rav (G8/G Fast) users must enable their overlay manually

Okay so, I followed the instructions but I ****ed it all up. adb shell wouldn't do fastboot reboot fastboot from the bootloader, nor would the mounting command work. It still doesn't. I flashed those files thinking maybe I was already mounted and it defaulted me back to stock os. Then I tried getting back into twrp, but it wanted a password and I had a pattern, so I set a pin code, and that didn't work either. So I reset data user data and another one that was mentioned in another xda thread and now I can mount twrp and get in, but the lineage zip won't flash, it says invalid zip file format. So, I have no idea what Ive done to this phone or how to get lineage on it, or even at this point how to upgrade the firmware because it doesn't even want to do that now, via the stock rom. A little help please. fastboot set_active a returns the table of commands same with b and with .fastboot --set-active=a and b

I had many bad experiences trying to understand my Rav better. So I think I can help with this one. Let's try the following things:
- BOOT ON STOCK B
Turn on your phone on Fastboot (pressing and holding turn on + volume down). If it works, the screen will be with that Android toy.
Then you plug USB and type fastboot reboot fastboot to enter fastbootD mode.
When screen goes to fastbootd (if you didn't flash TWRP) you can type fastboot set_active b and then fastboot reboot. If you're on TWRP, just don't type anything in password and then set Slot B as active and reboot.
Now you're on stock again, probably.
- TRY AGAIN TO INSTALL LOS
On stock running, you can plug it again on computer and reboot via ADB to fastbootD mode with adb reboot fastboot.
In fastbootD mode, you can try again the steps, not forgetting to put them on Slot A. and wipe userdata with fastboot -w.
- DON'T FLASH TWRP. JUST BOOT FROM IT WITHOUT INSTALL IT.
When you want to use TWRP to install GApps or Magisk, use it not flashing. just type fastboot boot twrp.img from fastboot or fastbootD mode.
Everything should work from this.
Thanks for the reply, a few questions.
I already have twrp installed, I'd be happy to get rid of it but don't know how to, fastboot reboot fastboot open's twrp, or does nothing at all. Adb reboot fastboot does work, but it takes me to what I'm assuming is my stock bootloader? I think the issue is that I need to get rid of twrp and get my recovery back, but I don't have a stock recovery file to flash, "fastboot flash recovery.img" or whatever it would be. I had to use Lenovo's rescue software earlier to put my stock os back on it. The phone isn't behaving as it should, or perhaps its my computer. I digress, when I try to activate a partition with the aforementioned command to do so, it gives me an error like that's not one of the commands it accepts. I tried three different flavors of adb, and they all reproduced the same syntax error. How would you proceed; and do you have a recovery img that I could use, I can't find one via google or loli. Edit: Progress has been made as using your suggestion I was able to get into fastbootD, the **** still wount mount with that command though. Edit 2: Managed to get adb shell working as it should be and flash the files but it just boot looped the phone, please advise. I got an error that said wipe successful after the last command but then it says not automatically formatting.

First, your syntax is incorrect.
Fastboot flash recovery (nor recover) recovery.img
Second, you can download firmware from lolinet.
Just google the name and you will find it. Recovery.img is bundled with your firmware
Hey there, thanks for the reply.

Thanks for the tips, as stated above I was able to get into fastbootD. As for the syntax, that's just me not proofreading what I'm typing and including unnecessary **** into a help request. I digress, I've done everything The user above my last comment suggested, and it boot loops my device, which is my current issue. Any ideas on how I could fix that? To clarify, I'm able to now flash in adb shell the parts of lineage, however, it bootloops my device. Even more concerning and strange is that it booted to twrp even though I was using the one built into fastbootD moments earlier without me booting or flashing to it. Thanks for the help.

Yup, I become white on weekends. Also make sure you are flashing the ROM on slot A.
Flashed this no problems. Only major issue I've noticed so far is Android Auto doesn't function (plugged in, mirroring). Any chance of this being fixed?
Nothing

Tried it your way, got bootlooped again, not working.
Hi All,
I am new to android and also new to flashing custom roms.
I followed the instruction in the OP but got stuck with following error, i am in fastbootd just to get that info out of the way.

please help?
additional info, I've unlocked the bootloader via motorola website, but I did not do the patch stock firmware with magisk step and came directly to flashing custom rom, if this makes any difference?
mods: I've made the same post in the omniRom thread, if this is not allowed, I apologize here, and please remove this post and keep the omniRom post, thankis.
Heyo, wealcome to "my hell".. I mean the thread
Yea, I've tried to come at flashing this without getting bootlooped for over a month in as many ways and angles as a person can imagine, and it always boot loops, even for omni rom. Can't flash in twrp becuase it says invalid zip. I have followed the instructions both here and elsewhere to a ****ING t, but nothing. So either I'm a dumb sack of **** or there's something going on with my phone, maybe both? Anyway, a fun factoid I discovered a while back after ****ting my pants for a while thinking I bricked my phone is Lenovo has a rescue agent that for free, resets all moto firmware from regular fastboot back to stock. I've used it over a dozen times in the last month for the aforementioned boot looping. Here it is, I'll be around but for right now, it's clearly beyond me. https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds101291-rescue-and-smart-assistant-lmsa
Hi, I was able to install everything perfectly and I was also able to get the vibration to work, the only problem is that I cannot enable screen clipping, I have tested it in fastbootD as in fastboot and it does not take command "cmd overlay enable org.omnirom.overlay. moto.rav ". I would need your help to solve that little problem, many thanks to everyone who can help!
Its been a long time since I rooted a phone and I'm stuck. Here is what I've done:
1. Become a developer
2. Enabled OEM_Unlocked in developer options
3. Installed the ADB package using apt-get (I'm running Linux Mint 20 Mate)
4. Allowed debug connection to my computer (remember this PC)
5. adb reboot bootloader (works)
6. fastboot oem get_unlock_data (stuck with display of <waiting for device>
Don't know where to go from here without bricking the phone.

Question: Can I get rid of the Motorola boot warning that says the bootloader is unlocked and has the pause?

What to do with a fully cleansed phone?

My attempt to install a custom rom has failed horribly and I'm left with a wiped phone. Is there a way to reinstall EMUI? Or still somehow get a custom rom?
I flashed lineage-19.0-20220211-UNOFFICIAL-treble_arm64_bvS.img on system, but although there was no error message it didn't seem to do anything.
It's a LLD-L31

Maybe, in fastboot mode run commands :
fastboot oem get-build-number
fastboot oem get-product-model
fastboot getvar vendorcountry
fastboot oem oeminforead-CUSTOM_VERSION
fastboot oem oeminforead-SYSTEM_VERSION
and post the results.
Some might fail, so don't worry about it.
If you want to flash GSI custom ROM , look here or here .
(ANE and LLD are basically identical devices).
Btw, I'm running LOS 19.0 by Andy Yan on ANE-LX1, works like a charm...

- Try the following: turn off your phone, press and hold Volume Down and connect phone to PC.
- Can you boot into eRecovery? (turn off, connect to PC and press and hold Power & Vol Up). If so, try to update phone via Wifi and option "Download latest....".

Okay, try the following:
1. Download Service ROM
Unpack it, there's a dload file in Software folder. Copy dload as it is to the SD Card (without unpacking it!)
2. Download TWRP 3.2.1 https://mega.nz/#!tkcTlATI!A8UJGPBGtxJbLcUOJoxCGJj5PFZXzCnjbb3OkwqKTP8
and copy it to SD Card
3. also copy to SD stock Recovery_ramdisk-9.1.img , download here:

4. Boot into your TWRP, select storage - SD Card, select "Install image", find TWRP-9.1 file and mark eRecovery, swipe. Go back, find recovery_ramdisk-9.1 file , mark Recovery, swipe.
5.Turn off the phone, use option 'Power Off' in TWRP's menu.

Sorry to bother you again, just wondering if you have any advice. I tried flashing LineageOS 17.1, but realised that the bootloader is locked again. My unlock code doesn't seem to work anymore (check password failed) and I figured it's because I have to downgrade EMUI 9.1 to 8.0. Took me a while, but turns out that was not the issue.
Do you happen to have any idea what to try? Do I have to buy another DC Unlocker license?
I don't know if it's related, but "adb reboot fastboot" just reboots the device and I have to use the volume down key to get there.

Turns out the problem was copy/pasting the unlock code instead of hand typing it..
So I could flash it, but then the reset failed. Just realised that EMUI 9.1 is a requirement though, so I'll flash that first and try again.
Edit: Nvm fixed it. Sorry if you got a notification anyway.
