Phone as AP can lo longer cast - Google Chromecast

I have a first generation CC. For the last few months, we've been using my wife's phone as an hotspot for the CC, and she's been able to cast from that phone just fine. (Set CC up using my phone connected to her hotspot). Last week it stopped working. My phone can cast from her hotspot, but her phone apparently no longer see the CC.
I've uninstalled/reinstalled Home and Netflix, plus I've factory reset the CC, but still no luck.
I switch the CC to using my phone's hotspot and my wive's phone and my phone can cast that way. She is more often home without me, so I'd like to get things working for her again.
I've seen stuff about "Client Isolation" but I can't find any settings in her phone"s hotspot related to that.
Any tip/tricks/suggestions to get her phone casting again?

[Q] Problem connecting to Wifi

My Chromecast was working flawless on my laptop, tablet, and phone. 3 days later, my phone's wifi doesn't work when Chromecast is connected to my wifi. My tablet and laptop's wifi works fine though. When Chromecast is off, my phone's wifi works fine.
I restarted the router and the problem persists. I haven't changed any settings on my phone.
Anyone know why this is happening?

The only thing I can think of is to make sure your phone isn't trying to connect ad-hoc to your Chromecast (it does this for initial setup). Otherwise make sure there aren't any router settings that conflict between the two devices.
Your issue sounds similar to mine. What I have happening is, whenever I select a video from my phone it will play for a varied amount of time but then stop. I will look at my phone and it is disconnected from my wifi and the icon turns grey. I have to then toggle airplane mode to get it to reconnect. When this happens every device on my network gets kicked off of my network. Now I am running a custom rom on my phone and have data issues throughout the day. So, I don't know if it is because of this or if anyone else is having issues like this.
Connection
I have issue with browser, on my pc i set up Chromecast it worked fine but i can not see the chromecast in the browser, can anyone help please?
Thanks

Chromecast app disconnecting after screen mirroring selected

Hey if anyone has the same problem and could share a solution i would be thakful. I'm trying to mirror my cell phone screen throug chromecast app. When in click in cast screen, the app finds my chromecast device connected to the TV. Then i select it, the connection is then stablished, the cell phone screen appears on TV, but imediatelly the chromecast app shows the "Disconnecting" message, automaticaly. After that, the chromecast app can't find the device on my wifi network anymore, just a few minutes later after a new search the device becomes identifiable again. Seems that the app is somehow making the Chromecast device to disconnect from the network. I've tryied to reset the chromecast device, to reinstall the chromecast app and i've disabled the AP isolation in my router and even tryied to disable the firewall, nothing worked what makes me belive it's an app issue.
Cell phone: Samsung S4 mini DualSim GT-I9192 with Andorid 4.4.2
Chromecast app: Version 1.7.4
Chromecast device firmware: 17977
TV: LG LM476200
Router: ARRIS TG862
Sorry for the english and thanks in advance.

Same here, same devices.
With my Note10.1 2014, a supported device, the CC app showed on tv, but the Note froze, which never happened before.
I haven't given it a second try, I'm 99% sure that this will happen every time, and I don't know any variation of the mirroring process or device setup, which might possibly lead to success.

If the device is supported for Cast Screen and it is using the stock ROM, then it should work. If it's not using the stock ROM, there is no guarantee of success.
Still stock & non rooted.
Sometimes I find the casting is flaky if I'm connected to a 5 GHz wifi network, as the phone has to communicate via the router rather than directly with the Chromecast at 2.4 GHz.

I'd try it again. Screen Casting is high load on the system, so it could be heat or stress related.
My Galaxy S3 casts solidly as long as the battery isn't low, it's not overheating from being charged while casting, and the WiFi is strong.

It still communicates through your router in both cases. It's not WiFi Direct like Miracast. That said, I have seen reduced stability when casting from a 5 GHz device in newer firmware builds. It's still less bandwidth load on the bands, but it can be subject to issues if the router doesn't bridge the two networks efficiently.

Interesting, I was always under the impression that devices on a wireless LAN could talk to each other directly if they were capable of seeing each other's signal. I guess not, then.

Standard AP/Infrastructure mode routes everything back through the router - it's a star topology. Easiest to manage and control, but you can be limited by the router/AP's processing speed (hence the different classifications for Wireless N, and the different real-world speeds even within those classifications).
Ad Hoc mode is peer-to-peer but has some limitations (fixed channel, limited range, etc)..
WiFi Direct is more of a small-scale AP setup and requires some hardware/driver support.
Things might change with the promise of "cast without being on the host's WiFi network" that was announced, but we'll have to wait and see.
Found some solution?

Did you managed to find some solution? :good:
Did anyone find a fix to the original problem? I'm having the same issue on my S7 Edge. It worked fine, then one day I tried to mirror my screen and it says "Connecting" then immediately afterwards it says "Disconnecting". However, Chromecast can mirror screen just fine on my S4 that's on the same network.
Setup: Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (SM-G935T), Chromecast is connected via Mobile Hotspot. Samsung Galaxy S4 is connected to Mobile Hotspot as well. I DO NOT have a wireless router nor do I plan on getting one. Any fixes would be greatly appreciated.
Hi,
Managed to fix this by allowing microphone in permissions for all Google apps including Google play services and Google play services for Instant apps.
Hope this fixes your problem. :good:
Hey! Found a fix for this on the S7 Edge. I think it did have something to do with the 5 ghz band.
1: Turn on your phone's wifi
2: Allow it to connect to your chromecast
3: Turn on Smart Network Switch
4: Allow Aggressive Switching
5: Turn on your Mobile Hotspot
6: Allow your Chromecast to connect
7: Once the Chromecast is connected to the Mobile Hotspot, Pull down menu and click to turn wifi off, wait one second, then turn back on.
You should be able to mirror and cast then.
Hope this helps. Not an engineer, can't tell you why this works, maybe there is a more simplified way. I've also heard of clearing the data and cache from the Google home app, but that stopped working for me as I'm sure this method will someday too.
But for now, enjoy!
Best Regards,

This is not a satisfactory solution for me. Why should I let Google spy on me with my microphone just to cast my screen?
I have 1gen and 2gen Chromecast and both stopped screen casting (mirroring) with Pixel running Oreo. Works fine on Nexus with 7.1.2

Anyone getting wifi issues? I stay connected but can't pass any traffic

I have been having issues where i am connected to the wifi but the device stops passing any traffic. I have fing installed and i can't ping any other devices on my network. I know its just my phone because i have my work phone and tablet connected to the wifi and they still work fine browsing webpages, watching movies etc while the droid turbo can no longer communicate with the local lan or out to the internet. If i switch the wifi off then on again it will reconnect and then work normally. I can then ping devices on the local lan and access pages on the internet. This has happened a number of times now since i got the device.
Edit: I just updated the phone and still get the issue. I have a cisco WAP at home, we have cisco WAP's at work which i will test tomorrow. If this thing still has issues i am just going to swap it out for a Note 4.

I've been seeing issues with Cisco wlans too.

Yeah this phone does not seem to like my router for some reason. Keep in mind I'm not a networking expert, but I've tried every combination of options and settings every which way from Sunday and I just can't get the thing to work. When I do connect the phone to my wifi it kills the the connection on every device in the house. At first I though it was just a wireless thing, but even the downstairs computer which is plugged in directly to the router doesn't work. Then as soon as I disconnect the phone every device works again. I thought maybe there was too many devices, so I disconnected all but the downstairs computer, still had the issue when I connected the Turbo. I've tried just turning off the WPA2 and just having an open system, I've tried connecting the phone using a WPS pin (This one actually worked for a good 5 minutes before crapping out and hasn't worked since). On the advanced options of the phone I tried an automatic IP as opposed to the default DHCP setting (This also worked for a good 5 minutes before not working ever again). I've tried limiting it to just one frequency band. I have tried so many different things and I just cannot make this phone work on my router. And I know it's my router because the phone works fine at work.
phone: Droid Turbo
Router : Asus rt-ac66r
yup within ten minutes of getting home, the device no longer passes traffic. My work S5 still works fine at home and so does my samsung tablet. The device worked on wifi all day at work on our enterprise wpa2 network no issues. I tried doing static ip at home, changing to 2.4 ghz, trying new ssid. Not sure what else to do with this thing...
Not just you
I posted a comment on Motorola's forum where people are discussing their wifi issues... And my work around. I currently beleive its a software issue and can be fixed via update. Also, today I found (it appears) that the longer the phone goes without a reboot, the shorter amount of the it appears to go with out needing the wifi card reset.

My work around fix...
First, over night my wifes phone now behaves just like mine. It now connects to wifi and after sometime passes it no longer passes data (but stays connected). I needed a way to auto disable/enable the card... I installed Tasker. I have it set to check every 15 minutes, if the phone is connected to WiFi, to disable then enable the WiFi card. I use WifiMatic to enable the wifi card when the phone is connected to the cellular tower that is near my house. (Doing this by GPS uses more battery power...) Using Tasker with the rule to verify its connected to wifi first helps not enabling wifi if its nit needed and lets WifiMatic enable/disable it as needed.

Screen cast via hotspot without Internet (no root needed)

When I get the cc I though I could cast my screen without a rooter or even a Internet to the TV, unfortunately when I set up the cc everything get destroyed and instead of the idea of bringing the little cc with me in the hotel and watch a movie from my phone, I keep getting cannot found a cc device... For some reason cc needs a active Internet to eat some kbs but that's doesn't mean it gonna drain your data not even 1mb In hours so here the steps
note that we cannot have hotspot and wifi on same time so we first gonna make the hotspot
In settings for hotspot
For example on ssid I put LG hotspot and a pass xxxx
Now we going and open wifi and open cc app it found our cc and moves as to the setup
Note because our hotspot it's close we need to put exactly the ssid and pass in able to be connect in my case I use LG hotspot and pass xxxx
Now press connect and in the time that it search to connect to cc open the hotspot that you create, it automatically close the wifi and the cc app will tell you that it needs to turn on your wifi
(it depends on your device some might show lf any device have connected to your hotspot mine it doesn't but it should be connected )
Now lf u go to the left panel and press screen cast it gonna tell you no cc have found
Open your data and your done it found the cc and starts..
In my device using LG g2 lf I close the data it stop the cast in a Galaxy s4 that I try it keeps Casting without any problem at all in any case using cast screen and data it not gonna use pretty much anything
I hope I helped and make many more happy!
I've tried a few device more and looks like not all can do the trick with the cc app open and pass to the hotspot direct from the same device, in that case you have to setup your cc to the hotspot from a computer or an other device
so not even rooting it would make you able to stream without internet? I just want to stream my local movies

New Chromecast, completed setup but cannot Cast from phone

I bought someone a Chromecast (current generation, non-4K). I help setup the Chromecast on the Moto Z2 Force. Installed Google Home, add device, discovered, added to same Wi-FI as phone. Everything seems to setup fine. But as soon as it finished setup, I click on the Chromecast device within Google Home, it just says "not available". I cannot cast from the Z2 at all.
On the other hand, on my LG V20, which does not even have Google Home, can see the Chromecast and I can even mirror my phone on to the Chromecast.
How do I troubleshoot this? The Wi-Fi network is not a guest Wi-Fi. Meaning L2/L3 broadcast / discovery should work.
Some how, today, it just worked. Yesterday, I even factory reset the Chromecast to no avail.
