MotoG2014 XT1078 Screen Problems - G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, last year at 29th August my phone screen fell down and broke. I went to the Technician 2 weeks later to replace it properly with everything correct (took sometime that I found pretty suspect) and fix it, but I noticed that some parts of the touchscreen were not working properly, so I gave it back to fix it another time, then the phone came back poorly installed (like, it was stew, dunno how to explain it better), then I hand it over and all seemed to work properly.
But then, my worst nightmare appeared:
Sometimes, when I lock the phone, there's a white/grey screen, with some cylindrical shape in a darker tone of the same colors in the middle of the screen. I need to lock/unlock (using the Power button) to wash it away and use the phone the way that it should be. My Bootloader is unlocked, and I didn't take off the warning about the warrany void. Everytime I turn the phone up the blank screen appears, then the Motorola animations appears and the phone lights up normally. I can't acess the fastboot screen properly due this problem.
Unfortunately, I left the phone this way because I didn't want to go back again to the Technician and I didin't trust him anymore. So I went to another technician which was way better than the first one and I showed the problem. I explained that I haven't Rooted the phone yet, neither flashed any custom ROM, but unlocked the Bootloader; and explained step by step what happened. He realized that actually was a hardware problem, and he told me to carry the phone to a Certified Motorola Technician, etc. But my warranty is now void.
Please, help me out, I appreciate ANYTHING you guys write in this thread.

[Q] Phone works, screen does not yet sometimes it does

Hello
One night I was using the phone without doing anything special , some video watching . Phone went dark, tried to reboot. Blank Screen and the capacitive buttons flash. Left it to charge all night, in the morning it started but after I pressed the lock button blank screen but phone still working and receiving input.
Took the battery and SD card out left it for 30 seconds then started it again, Stuck at LG logo. Repeat , phone started ... Pressed lock button once then again to unlock , screen wouldn't start.
Used LG Mobile Update recovery tool to restore it ... Didn't solve problem. Sometimes it does not even start , just flashes buttons, other times it does without screen and last all works even the screen until first time goes dark , in the last two cases I can use LG On-Screen Phone without trouble, in doing so I installed a proximity sensor test app to see if it was causing my screen to not come back on , the sensor looked fine.
Facts:
1. Two day old Optimus Black p970, worked like a charm until stated problem
2. The app that checked proximity sensor showed the sensor to be free when my hand wasn't on it
3. The warranty laws in my country are idiotic so I would do or buy anything rather than send it so they can give me a new one in 3 months.
4. Tried another battery from another Optimus, fully charged nothing different.
5. Stock rom.
Do any of you fine people have some ideas on how to fix this? Thanks in advance
Hi there...
Sometime ago [1 year and a half or so~] I worked at a cell refurbishing facility [there were samsung, motorola and palm devices from sprint] and that problem you have was quite usual. Blank screen, still the phone is somehow usable like reciving calls...
There's this thing called "flex" which is the connector between board and display and that is what we fix, most of the time not even "fix it" just getting it in the right place...
This happen because of excesive use in those sliding or clamshell devices, in OB could be for overheating, you could try to fix it yourself or pay $20 usd [that's what it cost here]
Would that connector explain the fact that sometimes it doesn't start at all? hmm I am thinking now and I guess if it moves and somehow the phone feels it has not display connected it could fail to start... Anyhow thank you
actually yes, it could be only for the flex [some devices don't start at all when not having display or keyboard if there's any] but since our OB is not sliding nor clamshell type probably was overheating.
you say you have stock rom, well now I'm using CM7 but when I was at stock and after using the phone a few minutes it felt warm and some more minutes [like playing gunbros where you need to use both hands and a lot of movement] it was really hot and had to stop playing for a while.
what I'm trying to say is that because of overheating flex could have moved, but because of overheating too may have move something else, you couldn't belive the huge number of micro-things that reside in the board.
so if it's only the flex, it's an easy task to do, just unplug and plug again, but if it's something else it's quite hard to know just looking at it, you need to do some electric measures and stuff, the recomendation is to take it to a tech center or something

Hi there, got the same problem too with my optimus black. Screen goes flickering, shut down don't do any good, and the phone temperature is kinda hot. But in my case it work after I clean some cache and data in the phone storage through LG OSP. After that, the phone temperature back to normal and the phone screen back to normal also. I believe that in my case the phone is overheated.

problem with replacement LCD+digitizer

Hello,
I know a lot of us are having problems with displays and digitizers and im wondering if anyone else has this problem. Yesterday i replced my screen because it had a dead zone. I booted up the phone and everything worked great until i locked the screen. When i pressed the power button to unlock it there was just a black screen with lots of white lines forming. Without fail the phone will do this. I restart and its fine but when i lock it, it gets screwy. I really need to get this working since i dont even have a backup phone right now. By the way the display is not oem its a knockoff.
Since you change your LCD....it might be a different panel from your original. Check your kernel or flash the kernel again.

Same thing happen to me about a month ago during my G2 screen repair. I bought mine on ebay from a seller that had sold hundreds of them, figured I couldn't go wrong. Unfortunatly I never figuered out why it was failing and just ended up returning it for a refund. The second screen I bought was from etradesupply and it worked perfectly. Hopefully someone has a fix for this weird issue.
I had that exct thing happen to me, well rainbow colored lines. I shattered the screen on a corner drop. I took it to Gopher Mods, they replaced the screen and within a few minutes it happened. They replaced it 2 more times and eventually the last time the screen popped out a little bit since they did not add enough glue/sticky tape inside and the lines dissapeared. They also gave me a full refund, with which I got another G2. So two working phones now lol.
Basically the screen might be pressed in too tightly causing the cable inside to be kinked too much. Its very easy to damage the video cable in this phone mind you.

Try installi mg dorimanx's kernel which detects your panel type of search the thread for a kernel swap flashable. Your new panel may be of a different type causing the white lines.

[SM-A310F] Recover files with a broken screen, debug off & OEM Lock

Hi everybody, I need all of your brains, because my brain stuck at this point.
Yesterday I got a phone (Samsung Galaxy A3 or model SM-A310F) from my neighbor with an damaged display. He told me the phone fell into water, but run after drying normal (I saw a video, isn't the phone water proof?) but then it fell to the ground and since the phone doesn't recognize any touch. I checked it and told him that I need to take a look inside because the glas is in a perfect state, I could see anything on it but, as I said, no functional touch. Hard-Keys are working fine.
The first thing what I does, was to restart the phone with "Vol- and Power". I thought the phone were now bricked, because the boot-up seems to be endless. After I let the phone work for approximately 5-10 minutes, the Samsung logo comes up and Android was there but again, with no touch.
So, as I said, I opened the phone, took a look inside and was very confused, because two wires were broken and some electrical parts near the display plug and the plug itself had a white covering, I think from the water damage before. Anyway, the phone is running but after I opened it, the screen got black and never come back. I cleaned up the parts and the plug and tried again, now when I press home or power, the screen is flickering on the left for a short time and is then black again.
At this point I said him that the phone is broken, because it is not clearly if the screen is broken and/or the mainboard, too (because of the white covering).
My neighbor asked me to recover the files and the contacts. I told him it is hard, but not impossible. My plan was to install a recovery, boot into and to adb pull all the files to my computer.
But: USB Debugging is DISABLED and the oem lock is on, too, so I failed trying to install twrp with odin. I just get a fail.
New for me: you can control your phone with your computer mouse and keyboard, so I thought, I can just accept the MTP request and simply drag and drop the files... but nope, the request just pops up, when I connect the phone to the computer. So I can't use my keyboard AND the connection to my pc...
Adb doesn't recognize the phone, because of the disabled usb debug (and even if I can figure it, I need to accept the debug dialog while connecting).
So, this is your part, anybody, any Idea to install something or just to recover the files?
My ideas:
Mirroring APK (to mirror the screen to my PC, explored that with MyPhoneExplorer)
Custom Recovery for stock recovery flashing (flashable zip)
Downgrading (but will definitly stuck in a bootloop, because I can't delete the data)
...
What do you suggest?
Buying a new screen isn't an option. I don't know anybody who can "borrow" me his screen.
I'm really a android geek, not someone as you are, but more than "normal users", so if it difficult, it is not a problem.
I also accept some tips with the screen part. I attached the picture, which I tooked for him. There you can see the white covering AFTER cleaning (it is almost there at some spots... I don't want to break more).
Thank you alot!
Kisses from germany =)
Sorry! I posted it in the wrong sub =( Can anyone please move it?
Ah I would like to update this thread:
I bought a new display, had some problems anyway but now I got a new phone =)

Touch just stopped working any way to backup phone with unresponsive touch feedback?

So I was just using the phone without issue yesterday evening. Then it just stopped responding and was sitting on my home screen. Thought it was locked then a phone call came it. Obviously not locked. Then it chimed an email came in. Again obviously not locked. Rebooted the phone to obviously the pin screen due to restart. No ability to touch any numbers. Don't feel the vibration of touching the screen either. Display is fine, not dropped, phone calls will pop up on the screen but no way to do anything.
I obviously need to replace the screen with touch digitizer I guess. How much fun that's going to be to find when every result under the sun comes up because of all the Mi Mix versions.
Is there a windows app that can backup the phone without unlocking it or imputing anything into the phone? Or am I screwed? Was going to try factory reset as a last resort before attempting to find a new screen for it. But really want to back it up first if it's possible.

Maybe someone can help? No display at all, phone works fine.

So I've had this phone since December 24th 2019. It's been RMAd 3 times so far (maybe going into the 4th, started it on the 22nd of June due to what I thought was a dead screen) so since Asus takes so long to repair stuff (I've literally have had it half of the time I've owned it) I decided to just replace it myself since the screen was only 150. So I proceed with the repair and when I'm testing the new screen nothing happens (the phone still turns on like with my other screen, charges and reacts to commands like turning on the flash light or going to the power menu if you hold the power button) So I request a new screen and it does the same thing... Now the chance that both screens were bad from a store with such high ratings is very low so but I'm still hopeful. I purchased another screen that gets here July 7 and will attempt it again but otherwise the only thing I can think of is that one IC or another got fried. I already have the phone opened so I can attempt to put it back together and send it to the Asus to see if they'll fix it but the screen is cracked and I know that after a month with the phone they'll just say "O we don't cover the accidental screen crack" and not take care of whatever the underlying issue is. So if anyone has any idea as to what this could be I'd highly appreciate it.
