battery life in 2017 ! - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo Q&A, Help & Troublesh

so how is you turbo doing with battery life and what is your sot ...
I got a great battery life I can get about 8~9 hours of sot (heavy use) ..and easily pass 2 days with a single charge(mid-light use) ...im on stock un-rooted ...and locked boot-loader ..with the very last update

My Maxx has 1 year and 7 months of use. Currently it is in RR 7.1.2 and makes about 6 hour of the screen on.

Droid Turbo: minimal use mostly standby, currently AOKP 7.1.2, original battery ~2 years :good:

I use only to check weather, texts, email, minimal Google interactions, but also lithium batteries have a optimum window of chemistry from charge, the dynamics of the software\engineering is beyond me, most of the drain is usually pinging the cell towers or the wife. Not linear at all :good:

I use the lastest RR, but the cell standby drain my battery around 50%, the battery life is not good, so I back to stock 6.0 rom.

battery life has been horrible recently... almost as bad my Samsung Droid Charge. I'm on CF ROM... but may switch back to MCG stock...

how is the battery life with heavy use on this rom ?

I personally prefer the stock rom as it last the longest. I used AOKP and RR previously and they are really good roms with lots of customization but the battery drainage can be quite heavy even with light use and if you're rooted you can have both stock roms great battery life and any app you desire.

Anyone else's battery turns off at 4%?

My battery was suffering but I did the battery replacement as is detailed in iFixit.com. Now I'm back around 3 hours SOT around 45 percent battery by the end of the day.

Long live TURBO!
Hah! I still have mine from when they first came out. I am thinking about rooting it just to fiddle with it some but it's treated me so well over all these years that I am reluctant to.
Speaking of I still have an HTC Incredible ( new battery ) that still works.
If you generally take care of your devices they can last a real long time!

Yes my Motorola Droid turbo actually dies around 30% sometimes.... I think it's just the battery messing up.

Time to replace it. We are going on almost 4 years since production of these lithium batteries and everyone is going to start experience issues soon if they haven't already. Replaced mine last month and the phone is like new.

[Q] Battery Life is Important

To those who own the phone, I want to know any battery life statistics you can provide.
I am very interested in this phone as it has that amazing keyboard, a nice 4" QHD screen, and it at least seems plausible there will be roms available at some point. But battery life I am not sure about, all the reviews I have read don't hit too hard on the battery life and I want someone to tell me heavy details about the battery life.
On a side note, if anyone can compare their D3 to this that would be great. I currently own a Droid Incredible, it is running MIUI, I have brightness set to 15-35% max, I have 3G turned off with Wifi on (as I live on a college campus with lots of wifi). On Easy to Moderate usage, I wouldn't have to charge for 2-3 days, On Medium to Heavy usage I end the day with at least 15%. With those same settings could I expect that from the Droid 3? (if so I would be extremely happy as I am very pleased with the Dinc battery life but I definitely need a keyboard.)
thank you for any help!
-Brett
I know the people who successfully had used the bloat removal script apparently get great battery, didn't work for me. But, depends what you consider heavy and moderate I guess. I usually charge once before leaving from work (I like to have more than 50% battery) I think I'm down to about 30% usually towards the end of my shifts playing music from my phone, txting a lot, browsing facebook and some forums.
It works decently when I'm off work tho cuz I txt and browse less.
Battery life is much improved if you listen to those running the leaked OS which the rest of us are waiting for "soon". Currently, battery life is disappointing. The battery life with light usage is erratic, some nights, just sitting on my desk, its drained to 20% from a full charge in 10-12 hours. Other nights, its at 80%. I gave up trying to figure it out.
I'm coming from a Droid X and the D3 is getting at least 35% less battery life for the same usage. My numbers aren't scientific, but I know I'm usually at 30% with the DX by 4pm; with the D3 I'm usually at 15% by 2pm. Both are using the Motorola extended battery.

Comparing apples and oranges will always be disappointing.
This phone has better battery life than any other phone I've owned since 1999 -- AFTER the update! Note that I do not consider simple hours-to-dead measurements, but how much I use the device. I think that for a dual-core, large-screen, keyboard, 3G device, its efficiency is excellent. Anyone who thinks the D3 has poor battery life has not owned an HTC or Samsung device lately
Before the update.. about 8-14hours of battery life. With the update, easily 2+ days and I use it quite a bit.
..
I can confirm that the battery life is drastically increased with the new OTA update. After about 9 hours of usage of occational web browsing, listening to music, and making a few calls, the battery only drained by 40% on the extended battery pack.

Sorry Dude but my incred2 running Miui and or OMFGB SMOKES this D3 with the new OS leak with battery life..Smokes it.......
I missed a charge over the weekend (charger not plugged into wall) and by the end of the second day on the battery I still had 49% charge left.
Make sure you get the extended battery.
Inc2
Yeah my dad has an inc2.....the battery life is pretty remarkable. My d3 just doesn't last as long haha
Before I purchased my Droid 3, I took the heed of several and also got the extended battery.
Now I use mine for business purposes, so I do not use any social applications. Just Exchange, Gmail, and one POP3 account. All set for Push. Probably on the phone 30-60 minutes a day. I have the Exchange data turned off at night as I use Touchdown for this and it lets me set my schedule.
I charge it when I it gets down to around 20 %, That is normally after three days of use. That's been pretty consistent since the first week I had it which has been at least a month ago.
Still Stock..... Of course YMMV....

Do you have a Bell branded XT860 or are you running with Verizon Droid3? I am wondering because my XT860's extended battery is a little rough (barely gets through an entire day) and was wondering if Bell released an update for that phone. Note I'm on Rogers, so I'm not sure if that would make a difference on me getting OTA updates.
Comparing a single-core phone with a 3.7" screen to a dual-core phone with a 4" display is not apples to apples to begin with. Throw in a FULLY debloated and optimized ROM(miui) with a custom kernal on a single core 3.7" phone is more like grapes to watermelons.
With the standard battery I can take the phone off the charger when I wake up and get through the day no problem. I am simply rooted with all the bloat frozen with TiBu.

Those two take up my top as well. Thats my point, simply idling eats up the battery worse than even on my thunderbolt.
How much will a new update to the radio do for the Bionic? Didn't the TB initially have terrible battery life because of its original radio software? Can someone clear this up for me? Thanks.
I have over 28 hrs on my bionic currently and still going. I'm at 30% as of right now. Phone has been off the charger since 0630 yesterday am. It is now 1422 on the 13th.

The thunderbolt has been through a ton of (leaked) radios. I think the consensus was that the OTA radio was a big help.
Also in the boat with standby and idle as the top battery consumers reaching 40%+ of the battery life depleters.
My Bionic goes for almost 24 hours between charges. So i don't care how much cell standby time it uses. it is getting DOUBLE what my thunderbolt does under the same usage.

The battery life on my new bionic got better when/after.
I conditioned the battery! enormous difference from first couple charges.
Realized that, once again my phone cannot replace my TV, Laptop, blender and wasnt going to help my kids behave better. It is my phone.
I installed juice defender! Huge difference. really like the app
Like a watched pot never boiling. If you stop watching the battery meter go down it actually DOES stop going down. Amazing.

Cell standby and phone idle eating 80a of my battery

So with my Droid x I could look at my battery usage and routinely see that powering the screen took between 80%-92% daily of my battery life. Big screen...made sense. 30% larger extended battery would last me 10 hours with moderate use
With the bionic, according to my battery usage. Cell standby takes 40% of my battery and phones idle takes 37%. Display only uses 6%. What the hell? So that's why my 2880mAh battery only lasts me 5 hours, with little to no usage for 4 of them. If i turn on wifi, the 3g icon stays (turned off 4g altogether since I only use data at work and it out of 4g range). And I will see it actively syncing many times even when I am doing nothing. Going into airplane more and back live again just makes it pause, starts syncing again immediately. Reboot and its fine for 3 hours then starts again.
What the hell? Do I have a dud? Should I do a wipe of the device a few times and hope it is a software glitch? Cause this is pissing me off that a brick extended battery won't even last me six hours. And I'm barely using it for 4 to 5 of them. Should I return it and exchange for another? Or return it and just get an incredible HD when they launch? Though that will probably have equally bad battery life. I am rooted and everything is backed up so a wipe won't take long to restore.
Also has been doing this since I got it 4 days ago. Have fully drained and fully charged the battery numerous time with no real change.

Well first of all the display on the Bionic is RGBW pentile which uses much less power than traditional RGB LCD's. So it makes sense that as the percentage of power consumed by the battery decreases the other things like cell standby and phone idle would increase. It has to total 100%.
That said if you only get 5 hours on an extended battery with light use then your phone is defective or possibly a third-party app you installed is misbehaving.
I am at nearly 15 hours with 40% left on a standard battery with 4G on and 1.5 hours of screen on. All I did was root and de-bloat (around 30 apps).
I have the extended battery and get about 12 hours of heavy video and streaming audio, web browsing, maps, E-Mail, texts & calls. This is split about 50/50 4G & WiFi. I have no idea how you're only getting 5 hours. That almost seams impossible to me. Like the above post says, maybe you have an app that isn't shutting down? I am not sure but something is DEFINITELY not normal
But if it was an app behaving badly shouldn't it show up on the battery usage log thing? I'm gonna wipe when my shift ends at 8 am and see how it lasts today with only Go SMS installed. If it is dead in a few hours again I know for sure its the phone or battery. If it lasts then I get to start the painful proccess of adding apps back one at a time until I find the culprit.
Thanks for the advice. 5 hours seems impossible to me too, but that is all it lasts. Freaking me out that it is eating so much. Maybe ill try the stock battery later. Maybe its just the battery that is FUBAR'd

You ran the Blockbuster app, didn't you?
I've read an article or two speculating about the possibility of a batch of Bionics with bad radios that chew up battery. Everyone I've read about that returned their Bionic for this reason has experienced a reversal in their battery experience. Sounds like you should do this as well.
Like the others, mine is like the energizer bunny until I start messing with games and streaming video.

Those with "bad" radios will obviously have a bad radio if their battery life is crap correct? My Bionic seems to do ok with battery life, but I still can't manage to get what all these other users are getting with the stock battery.
Maybe I'm a heavy user that's in denial of being a "light" user...

I am having the same problem. I am going to give them a call on Monday.
Fixed it. Ran the bootstrap app to get into clockwork. Did a factory reset a few times over to make sure it was all clear. Loaded only the bare apps I needed onto phone and battery went from 7am Sunday morning til 10pm and only lost 50%. XD so it was definitely an app playing badly.
I put almost all my 180 some odd apps back on with titanium. But any that do any kind of syncing I downloaded freshly and didn't transfer any data, started brand new there too. So far today unplugged phone at 2am at work, its almost ten now and its only fallen to 50%. Granted I have far more stuff installed now and wwas using it a bit at work. Not too bad. Want to see how much longer it will go

How long should the standard battery last with average use?
I unplugged at 6AM with full charge. Ran only 3G until 10:30am and was at 50%. My usage was nominal- few texts, no phone, few emails, about 10 minutes of internet, 30 minutes of Sirius.
At 10:30am I switched to 4G just to test the battery life. The phone mostly sat idle, but the remaining 50% drained in about 1.5 hours.
Does 4G really use that much power... even when the device is sitting idle? If so, then what's the point of making such great 4G devices if the batteries can't keep up?

can't say for sure but I know my battery was lasting a hell of a lot longer than 5-6 hours from day 1
I have the extended battery. I get great battery life when playing games, streaming video, listening to pandora, web surfing and phone calls. I am in a 3g area only. But when it comes to just idle time it seems like its using almost twice the amount of battery life as my droid x did. My droid x with the extended battery would drop 10 to 20% while idle from 11:30 pm to 7:30am. My bionic last night, I went to bed at 11:30pm and had 80% with extended battery, I woke up at 7:30am and was at 40%???
Does that sound right?? Also when using wifi the battery drops faster, should it use more battery on wifi or 3g? I have never used any bloatware and have the same apps installed as my droid x.
I'm having the same problem with my phone. 5.5 hours of battery with little to no use. i have to keep my phone on a charger throughout the day.... a power charger. the phone will die if just connected via usb.
Have you guys calibrated the new battery? There is also a neat little calibration trick in the x2 forums, works like a charm.
Google "juhde battery" and it should show up. Can't recommend it enough...

I'm interested to see where I stand also..
Thanks,

How would you compare battery One X vs O4X?

Anyone has any opinion about this? A friend asked me to trade phones (One X for the Optimus 4X) cause he likes more the LG. I also like more he LG but the 1800mAh battery of the One X scares me, although I've read that it performs better than the battery on the LG.
Which phone has a better all around battery usage?
I ve used root freezer and froze many system apps, possibly that helps. With wi-fi constantly on for example today (although no browsing) just notifications from Facebook, I have 60% battery left ~14h on battery.
What makes me say WOW, is that I see 2% battery used on the display (41minutes on) and when I see similar screenshots of the One X the screen is 60% while the standby is at is 20%. Does the screen of the One X consume that much battery??

well, if u are familier with custom kernels, ull understand that they provide more performance ans battery. and also custom roms make a huge difference. for hox users, overnight drain is within 2 percent, amd most of the time 0 percent drain. and usually battery life is arouns 20 hours standby with 3 hours screenon. and that includes over half an hour gaming, calls, texts, and tapatalk. heck, i even tango for half an hour
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
..it's very easy to set up the lg 4x to draw around 7-8% a day on standby/sms couple of e-mail checks/some wifi-streaming use (turn off 3g, etc.). I had nowhere near that on the onex I tried when using the same settings. Basically you need to wipe the rom clean of extraware before you're going to see acceptable level of idle-activity.
Not sure where the entire thing about battery life comes from. Had the 4x last 4 hours of Max Payne. That's.. more than any other phone with the same hardware. By a good margin. As in 1-2 hours longer.. So ..
Honestly would have sold the 4x and gone back to my symbian phone if I had to charge the thing every day.
i dont have One X.. but maybe that one is better in battery life..
because LGO4X's battery drains quickly here

Let's talk battery life

I have a new 1254. I never used the stock ROM. I unlocked it and put cm13 out of the box. I get about 5-6 hours of screen time out of it . Mostly browsing, I used it for movies on a flight. Is this good? Not sure what to expect. Would a stock ROM be better?
What's everyone getting out of their battery?

i'm still on stock ROM (LP 5.1), rooted, bootloader unlocked, but running Xposed. I get great battery life (rarely dipping below 50% at the end of the day) to the point where I'm hesitant to flash anything else.
I'm new to this device (1 week old), changed ROM on day one for Mokee lastest nightly and battery life was really bad, it lasted half day. Yesterday I flashed BB kernel and Intelliprofile in battery saver mode and now I get almost a day.
I don't play games, mainly browsing and some GPS.
So far I'm really disappointed with the battery of this phone, I bought it for its massive 3.900 mah battery but it's lasting the same as my previous Galaxy S4mini (1900mah).
I went to computerfreak ROM. Moto ROM is definitely not as nice as CM. I want to see what this phone is really made of on stock ROM. Unless it's ridiculously better I will probably go back to CM.
Battery life is definitely better. My phone rarely warms up a bit. I wonder what causes this pretty big difference. I think my next step will be a custom kernel in cm13. I am guessing the cm kernel is way more performance oriented than stock.

I been on vacation since I started the thread. I get about a day out of the phone with some city map use, occasional browsing(1.5h max) , pictures 15 min of phone talking and about 20 texts. I have about 20% left at the end of the day.
Is the battery capacity displayed in apps like gsam the actual capacity or designed capacity? I wonder if I should just replace the battery.
I don't remember ever getting 5-6hrs SOT. Even when new, I would get about 3-4hrs... and I'm still getting about that on stock-44. It's good enough for my needs, but I still wonder how people get so much more SOT than I do... what am I doing wrong?!
My wife is barely pushing 2hrs SOT... really don't know what's wrong with her phone... still trying to figure that out. She ends up with a dead phone by the end of the day, with very little usage. (I game a little on my phone, and I still get more SOT).
I get around 4 hours of SOT with playing games and browsing. I'm using computer freeks ROM because I can't go without 4g. 3g is just so freaking slow it makes me not even want to use my phone.
For me, the best ROM for battery life is the Brazilian Marshmallow ported to droid turbo by @iiWoodstocK. I get ~6 hours of SoT and once the phone lasted 3 days with >6 hours of SoT. Usage included Youtube, WhatsApp, tapatalk, browsing, routine calls and text and a few hundred times of opening the settings and looking at the battery screen
I am finally getting great battery life
CM 13
BHB27 kernel
Interactive governor
Intelliprofiles
Govtuner set to daily
Greenified shallow hibernation most apps.
My locked phone battery draw with music playing is ~50-70 mah. Can go as low as ~30 without music. I used to be above 300 mah. Phone never warms up while idle. I get good SOT battery life, but I don't have numbers to compare.

i'm still on stock ROM (LP 5.1), rooted, bootloader unlocked, but running Xposed. I get great battery life (rarely dipping below 50% at the end of the day) to the point where I'm hesitant to flash anything else.

Let me chime in on this.. Do not put a lot of stuff on your device with stock rooted or unrooted.. My phone had Xposed and gravity box installed.. For some reason, a lot of apps tend to over heat this phone to the point were it become useless.. Hell the battery would drain in about 3 hrs of use.. I called Moto about it, and at one point my phone was 129F hot... This phone is fine, but can not imop handle a lot of apps... My wife Note 4 can handle anything I throw at it without ever over heating..
My phone used to get hot browsing... heck even sitting. Now it does not get as warm even with GPS and music streaming at the same time.
