Okay first of all, I have only made one ROM ever, so I am not the brightest on this subject. My question though is for a Dev that is fairly smart. Would it be possible for those itching to have lollipop on their Note 4, but who don't want to lose Touchwiz features, to install the international Note 3 5.0 ROM on their Note 4 if a Dev would port it. If its possible why hasn't some talented dev( because there are several here) ported it yet. I know the structure would be a little different, but I'm thinking it would be entirely possible to port it with some tinkering. Just let me know if I am way off base or if this would be something to really look at.
why would anyone bother trying to port the note 3 version, when the actual Note 4 version will be here any day?
anyone anxious to try lollipop has several AOSP type roms to try, so waiting for the TW version is no big deal at this point

Because no one really knows when the note 4 version will be here, as far as I know. Also I'm just going by the sheer volume of Roms available, I would think a correct Note 3 port would have been highly popular. Honestly AOSP Roms just won't work for a lot of Samsung fans, someone who wants to take full advantage of their Gear watch, or other samsung products linked to Touchwiz enabled devices.
good points; I guess since the "promise" of official Samsung lolli has been out there for so long, the folks who want an official Samsung 5.0 are holding out for it; you never know if a "ported" version will have all the features that the Samsung die hard fans want in their Samsung roms, so that might be part of it..
its gotta show up soon, and its insulting to the folks who own the top Samsung phone on the market that they aren't/weren't the first ones to get this on their note 4's..
Its blunders like this that will eventually cost Samsung their leadership in the cell phone world, if it hasn't already..
Most people will just wait. Porting over a waste of time for devs. Now if they knew 5.0 would never come then that is a different story.

But we never really know when it will be here, it could be November. The sad fact is the Note 5 may be out by the time Samsung gets it done, and the carriers finish adding bloat, and finally decide its time to release it. Even if you are just waiting for the international version to release, we have no clue when that may be.

Blame TMOBILE lol. They can push Samsung in getting it done. Then Samsung will say we done tomible has it lol. Either way. I feel bad for all those waiting daily for it to drop. I for one will stay with nk4. Lollipop will not offer me much from what I can see so far.

I get that, but can you honestly say if the ROM was available you wouldn't flash it and try it out giddily?

Honestly I would not flash it. Not a fan of the look and the pull down menu. I actually like stock for this phone. Tried flashing most that are here and always found my way back to stock deodex.

Idk, but being the tinkerer you are, like me, I can't see you passing up the ROM, at least to try it.

I know its coming but I do want a tw lollipop that runs well every other aosp ROM gets my phone really hot and I hate that although I appreciate the work the devs do porting them.

The reason that nothing has been ported to this device is we need the kernel gods to do their thing. Any day now. Kernel is the issue for us right now.
I know this is early. Lol I know. I was just curious of anyone's heard anything about it yet. I'm going to upgrade to the GS6 but only when CM gets released. I refuse to use TW. And now that Google has abandoned the GPe program this makes it even harder to upgrade.
So.. any news?

That's quite a daft thing to say considering the Galaxy S line is right behind the Nexus when it comes to development popularity..

Haha no lol I'm just really bored with my S4 and want to upgrade but realized I'd be sacrificing a lot of functionality if I did. Since you good people have adopted the GS6 early I thought you'd be up to snuff on any development news for it. No worries though. I got some pondering to do.
By the time your done pondering on S6 / cm, will be looking at the next great thing SG9 .

Why would you want to buy a galaxy s5/6 and put cyanogenmod on it? Are you not buying it for the camera/thumb print scanner or samsung pay which will suck or not work at all on cm? If you want cm so bad other flagship phones cover that nich much better. You buy a expensive phone and make all the features that make it expensive useless, makes no sense to me.
Nope I'm not buying it for the thumb scanner, or Samsung pay. Everything I need, CM gives me. Have been using it since CM7 and has given me everything I want.

In my opinion at least. Battery life is much better, OS is more responsive. And as far as I have seen for myself there is no difference between picture quality between TW and stock Android.

i have been using samsung mobiles from past 6 years, this time i switched to oneplus 3T but i didnt like the user interface it comes with. For Eg: while making a call In samsung could just swipe right on a contact to place a call and swipe left to compose msg....even creating contacts were easy. Likewise there are lot many other functionalities that i liked in samsung compared to 3T.....the only reason i opted for 3T was its hardware...... My question is, Is it possible to have the same functionality or user interface on 3T as well.
would really appreciate your views and replies

The interface and functionality in OP3T is almost the same as stock Android with a few little tweaks here and there. So, if you like Samsung's iteration on Android, just get the Galaxy S series.
I didn't think I'd ever see someone saying they like Samsungs TouchWiz over Stock Android. Welp, to each their own. I respect your preference.
But unfortunately, It's not possible to get the Samsung UI i.e. TouchWiz without porting it to the 3T and i dont think anyone has attempted porting the same just yet, and i highly doubt someone ever will.
Wait and hope someone does port it and if that doesn't happen, you'll get used to OxygenOS soon enough!
Don't feel bad. Many long time Samsung users get used to features that many Android "puriest" never heard about. The one you mention is one I also liked when I had the s1.
To answer you. No. Touch wiz is not something you can get. But. You maybe able to use some separate apps to come close.
Stock Android is kinda bland compared to some of the other UI out there. Just need to find things that will work for you the way you want.
You can consider using third party apps to get some of the similar functionalities. For a swipe to call feature I use ExDialer and it's a fantastic dialer app. On OP3T having 6GB helps helps the cause of using 3rd party apps without feeling the pinch. Gluck with tweaking the phone to your liking.
Hello, just wondering what I can do to get my snapdragon note as close to stock android as possible. I've changed the launcher, but I'm not aware of many other things to do to the phone - there aren't a huge amount of custom ROMs available yet, and changing the skin only goes so far. Is there anything I can do to essentially remove touchwiz and move away from samsung's UI?
You bought a Samsung phone, now you want a stock android experience... Buy a Google pixel !

if Samsung had done the hardware for a pixel phone, that would have been an easy buy - I'd just rather have a phone with basically no hardware drawbacks and hope I can change the software rather than have some things I dislike that I can't change. It'd be wonderful to own both phones but each's price tag makes having both a bit difficult

What is it that you don't seem to like with TouchWiz? What is missing from what is provided in Pixel2? What is the bloat that you are seeing? Is there any lag?

It's not bad software and it's not missing anything - I just prefer the look and feel of the stock Android software without any non-changeable skin. Samsung did a lot of things right with TouchWiz, but I just prefer the look of Google's android without just feeling bloated by a lot of Samsung apps just sitting around without use (there's no noticeable lag, I might just be a purist). While not a big issue, I absolutely hate the font experience, given that there's no way to get something like Roboto and Product Sans onto this thing.
There are ways through theming and porting apps but personally, after doing that, I missed the Samsung experience and went back.

Ignore everyone saying 'why didn't you buy a Pixel'...silly and unhelpful comments that completely miss the point of your question lol... I understand why you would prefer the Note 8 hardware . Stock is missing many useful features.
It's bland and boring.
It has been very slowly stealing other OEM good ideas so it's a little better than a few years ago but I still can't use it on my main phone.
Tablet I rarely use is fine.

I Dont think so, why would you want something like that? I like the note series just because these devices are exactly the way they are! I really dont see the point in buying a great note series device for downgrading it later, tbh
