Auto brightness too dim? - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

I am used to using the auto brightness feature but on my 3T the display is too dark when I am indoors.
Are there some settings I am missing to adjust this or are there any apps anyone would recommend to use to help with this?
Regards,
BTJ

For me its the opposite. I find it too bright on auto. Slide the brightness up and down a few times. check and uncheck auto to see if that helps.

Auto adjust backlight...can we tweak?

Peoples....has anyone found a way to "tweak" the auto adjust backlight setting?? Would be nice to be able to set the light sensor to a pre-determined value so that it is always that value greater than the ambiant light...
Why??...well, I would like to continue using the same auto setting (saves battery, etc) but have it just a little bit brighter than what it is doing automatically at the moment.
I'm sure there is a way....would be great to have this in Shaps AC or Diamond Tweak....hmmm, perhaps post there to....
Thanks all
Not sure if this helps, but if you untick the box for auto brightness then you can slide the brightness control up and down to set the base setting then re tick the auto box. Let me know if this is what you are wanting. If not just ignore me

Nice one, but unfortunetely does not have the desired effect (just checked)....
HOWEVER, this would be a great why to build it into the system i.e. manually set the level thats works best for you in the abient lighting of the moment....then set auto adjust to keep that differential...hmmm...
I would love to find a way to calibrate that. The backlight in darkness is too high for my eyes. When I set it manually I can decrease the brightness to a comfortable degree, but as soon as I turn automatic mode back on, it gets higher.
Agree

How to Keep the brightness always minimum?

Despite doing this manually in the settings, occasionally the brightness goes up due to unknowns. Is there a way to keep the brightness always low?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App

If you swipe along the notification bar at the top you can increase or decrease the screen brightness.
"it's a feature not a bug"
i hated it myself till i read somewhere that (only if you deactivate auto-brightness) you can increase/decrease the brightness by swiping left/right on your notification panel! it happens often by mistake when you pull it down ... thats your problem
in the new froyo rom's this is no longer the case so now i use auto-mode and wait will this "feature" is no more
edit: Intratech...too fast

I never noticed this actually.. Also ensure though in the browser you have set brightness manually there
have the same problem, but i find the auto brigthness setting saves my battery more rather than accidentally turning it maximum brightness
I tried the "Dimmer" and "Brightness!" apps from the market. But none of them 'Keep' the brightness at the minimum always.
I've noticed 3 places where the brightness can be set - 1st being the web browser, 2nd the actual settings option, and 3rd the video player. Currently, I disabled the auto brightness control and I've set all 3 places to 1 step above minimum. Seems to work for me.
Also, I have a widget on the home screen to set/monitor the brightness level, it's called 'Brightness Widget by Stark Technology Inc.'.

I've just read an article pointing out this weird thing:
http://www.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s5-mini-review
I've just tested this on my S5 mini, wow! I see what they mean by colours going psychedelic.
I don't think you have any control at all under Auto Brightness. You'd have to switch Auto Brightness off then slide the brightness to Max.

maybe some moding?
Maybe this is due to a feature named "Adjust Display". Go to Settings > Screen > Screen Mode. By default, it's set to Adjust Display, so the screen will automatically change its colors depending on ambient lightning.

Is auto brightness working good ?

I seach many threads but in my case it works but I have a probleme for having the REAL auto brightness with my Z3C.
I mean... If I disable the auto brightness in display settings an put the maximum brigtness it's very high, and when I check the auto brightness and put the brightness (notification bar) to maximum and switch between auto and not auto... YES there is a difference, the auto mode is less bright, so yes the auto brightness option works because i see a difference... I gess
BUT... at night when the room is COMPLETLY dark (yes because I sleep in the dark lol) the brightness is very bright for me, too bright. And I go to the notification bar and put it at less... but wait! This not my definition of "auto brightness" if I have to manage it. For me (maybe I'm weird, tell me) if auto brightness is enabled, when the light sensor see a COMPLETE DARK room the brightness should be at minimum, am I right???
And, with all my previous smartphones, the auto mode was with the brightness bar in notifications bar and if I check the auto mode, the brightness setting bar is desabled... and if I setup the brighness bar, the auto brightness check is disabled... etc
So why my Z3C haven't an real auto brightness? Why can I enable the option in settings but set the brightness bar too? Why in a complete dark the brightness is too high and not at minimum? Because in the morning in the dark if I set it at minimum, later I have to set it more bright because it's too low at the day ligh... BUT I'M IN AUTO MODE IN THE DISPLAY SETTINGS!!!
It's like I have the auto mode and the right to set the brightness too... not logic! If I check the auto mode it's because I don't want to setup brighness bet the device must do it for me like my others phones...
Is it normal?
Thank you for help...
Its normal, auto brightness on the Z3 has a very narrow range of auto adjustment. So exactly like you are saying its either too bright at night or too dark in bright light. Do yourself a favor and use the app LUX, I think there is a free version to try. My auto brightness now works as it should, bright enough to read in sunlight and dim at night so I'm not blinded. You can tweak the values for every type of.light you are in, works great.
Do you have Lollipop on your phone?
Do you know that in Lollipop there is no Auto-Brightness anymore, there's "Adaptive Brightness", and it scales less, which explains your experience (and you're not the only one)?

It's was called something with "adaptive" in Kitkat, too.
You can just set the slider to the minimum, then it won't be too bright in the dark and it'll get bright enough in sunlight...

Disable Night mode?

Does anyone know how to disable "night mode" under dispaly brightness settings. (not reading mode and dark mode)
This night mode pushes screen to warmer tone right after 8.00pm
I played with the sliders given, but still can't get it off.
Check the screenshot ?
No one?

If system brightness is not set to the minimum available or automatic in low light conditions then night mode shouldn't get enabled
Bro, just drag the "nightmode color temperature" to zero. Left side.

I found that if i don't restore the phone in a fresh install i don't get that issue. Later one xda memeber has posted the same thing and he found that it has something to do with google backup. It's like reading mode, but auto activated exactly at 8.00pm.
I fixed it with a fresh install and skip restore.
Thanks for helping me out. :highfive:
