Im getting tired of my HK ROM. It is always on the tail getting official OTAs. Im still sitting here with 7.0 while others are on 7.1. Can I flash other official ROM on my device? After flashing, can it receive otas flawlessly?
If I'm not wrong, the last version of flashtool supports 7.1.1.
So yes, you should can flash other official firms and receive future OTAs.

No, no need to unlock (I don't like to unlock boot since we loose DRM and other things like warranty).
And If you are at HK zone, search for another rom of your zone wich I guess had the same baseband. Search and download with xperifim included in flashtool.

Taiwan is the nearest in my area.
Just to make things clear, I dont need to do prerequisites prior to flashing? EG unlocking BL, flashing custom recovery, rooting, etc. Bricking a marginally-supported phone is one of my worst nightmare
EDIT: Flashtool said my phone is locked and no other clickable options. Do I need to unlock this first?

No, you don't have to unlock. The screen you show is Emma flashtool. You need Androxyde Flashtool, it's another tool to flash roms, and the good one.
Downloads - Flashtool
Search on XDA for an androxyde flashtool guide, there are hundreds. I don't remember if there is one just for our device, search please and read before do nothing.
Edit... Ops, the xda app don't copy the link. Search flashtool.net / downloads

Thanks mate! I managed to flash TW ROM w/o unlocking BL.
However, I forgot what is the usable internal storage. 40+ gb is a bit low compared to 62 gb, taking 15gb as OS. Did I do something wrong or is it normal?

If you want root, unlock your bootloader, flash a kernel with recovery and flash superuser.
Is it possible to root on this version (.307)??
I need root >_<...
Root is not a "need", but a "want", and the answer to your question is probably not. Just unlock your bootloader, flash a kernel with recovery then flash superuser.
I´m not able to flash it.
Flashtool says "Device connected in flash mode" and that's it.
Other Firmware are working, any idea?
Did you update flashtool to the latest version? Only 0.9.11.0 works for Xperia Tablet Z iirc.
EDIT: 0.9.11.0 flashes fine for my XTZ on OSX.
Tried it and installed, thank you!

I have the LTE 32GB version, is there anyway I can resize the partition or I need to wait for a 32gb version you think?

Not by flashing via flashtool. You may be able to resize partitions using adb shell or something like that, but that's highly dangerous and untested. There is no 32GB LTE version of the XTZ for worldwide though, so you may be stuck with only 16GB of storage.

Wish there were just a partition resize app lol
I lost root and custom recovery after flashing this. But this update brings about the wonderful update to the touch screen which makes the tablet so much more easy to use.
Hopefully, someone will create custom recovery and root for this later.

No FTF file can be modified. It will not unlock your bootloader, nor will it do any dastardly things to your tablet other than update it.

u know a method to unlock the bootloader of the lte version?
becuae the official method doenst work
I live in Japan and bought an AU/KDDI branded Z1. The model is a SOL23, not a C6902/3/6 as it appears everyone else is using in the forums. Japanese carriers have a tendency to bog a lot of their phones down with carrier specific bloat. AU is not any different. Some of the apps are not integrated in to the rom and can be removed, but most cannot. My desire is to install TiBackup and remove some of this garbage. I have the original SOL23 FTF and have tried the following…..
1) All One click root tools (Kingo, vRoot, 360root) with no effect. I imagine the ROM is some 257 derivative
2) Flashing a prerooted ROM image. Works great, but no cell signal (sim lock? wrong baseband?)
3) Editing the original FTF. This got pretty messy and eventually gave up
Some insight as to why this is so difficult, suggestions, and methods would be great.
Phone Details:
Model: SOL23
Android Version: 4.2.2
Baseband Version: 8974-AAAAANAZQ-10270011-02
Kernel Version: 3.4.0.-perf-g66807d4-02451-g22b4297 dated Monday sept 30
Build Number: 14.1.C.0.467
I will try to:
- downgrade
- root
- flash any ROM you like
- flash ONLY kernel and baseband of your original ftf
Ps. If still no signal I would also try to unzip ROM aur. In a directory u can find the specifics files for each model, try to search in your dump the same file and put it in the same dir.
Sent from my C6903 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Thanks for the quick response!
Technically speaking, there is no ROM to "downgrade" to. There exists only the current rom for all SOL23, it was the one the phone was released with. I may attempt to flash an international downgrade (with no signal) and go from there, I'll let you know how that works....
AU/KDDI uses CDMA (if I remember correctly), so the ROM for GSM/WCDMA's cell part won't work.
If you just want to get rid of that bloat, freeze them in setting/apps will be better IMO as it will easy for system upgrade, or you'll have to bring all the bloat back before upgrade your phone.
Problem solved
Essentially I translated xperiafreaks.org webpage from Japanese and trial and error.

Really man, thanks a lot. Great job.
I wonder if we will be able to update to the newer firmware with this rooting technique.

Don't see any mention of the stock SOL23 FTF tho in the description.
What to prepare
make a prerooted.zip is necessary files and utilities.
•7za.exe
•Flashtool
•DoCoMo version ftf(14.1.H.0.542) or au version ftf(14.1.C.0.467) for either their own environment
•cwm_prerooted_Z1.zip
* ftf file how to have been consideration here:[How-To] XPERIA custom start from scratch (2) make the ftf file (2013)
Less preparation is required for root Xperia Z1 (SO-01F/SOL23) further.
•Global Edition ftf(14.1.G.1.534)
•1 click root app (VROOT, 360 root, Kingo Android Root, etc.)
Kingo Android Root use Kingo Android Root Xperia Z1 almost one-click root Windows software is published in -has been described in thejuggly.cn .

Oh I realize that but with the Japanese version it doesn't allow me to use Data in Canada as their really isn't an APN section to set up.
Well it is limited and the APN info I enter tells me it is incorrect and will not allow me to save.
Now that I SIM unlocked it I can make calls and texts np.
It would be nice if someone made a de-bloated modified version oif the Japanese Kernel or modded the International one to see the 32GB of onboard storage.

Well SOL23's stock ROM blocks all abilities to SIM unlock as they want you to prove you bought the phone legitimately via KDDI AU and then they will unlock it for you.
Once you flash the Generic International ROM listed in this thread it automatically circumvents AU's block and pops up a SIM Unlock Code box.
I paid $35 for the code to permanently unlock it...works perfectly minus not getting LTE due to it not supporting the 1700 spectrum but HSPA+ works fine...on WIFI most times anyway so I use maybe 700mb out of my 6GB of data per month,

- depends. Is your device that you've ordered support LTE? If yes, then you'll get C6903
- LB = Locked boot loader. A state where you can't flash custom kernel
- UB = Unlocked boot loader. A state where you've unlock your boot loader, so you can flash custom kernel.
- which steps?
- there's ROM which can be flashed even your bootloader still locked. So, it depends on what ROM you wanna use.

1. Backup your TA partition (just in case you want to roll back to 4.2.2, and get back your DRM key)
2. Check for updates using OTA or Sony PC Companion
3. If there's update to 4.3, apply the updates
4. Before we step further, I wanna ask you, do you wanna keep your bootloader unlocked?
Well. We don't know when exactly 4.4 update is available. Let's hope we'll get this in December.

Im not going back to 4.2 for me its either aosp 4.4 or Sony ui 4.3. As I said I have zero knowledge so if you can elaborate more about how to do it that would be highly appreciated

There is no better way than follow this steps on Page 2, Post #16 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588331&page=2
No body here was clever at the first time so just read carefully. This is the only way to get the full root on your device.
If this help click on thanks.
Well, I found that out through YouTube.. I downgraded my c6903 to 534 fw and rooted it, installed the recovery dual and flashed ihackers 2.1 , yes I did ta backup but I didn't unlock the bootloader. I dunno what's the benefit of doing so, although I emailed Sony and I got the unlock code on my email as they replied... I'm only missing an app that control the led color of notifications led and Google now since I'm not in the US region.. That used to work fine on 4.2.2 but no worries.. Thanks guys. You really helped me a lot and I think this is a great device, I have been using it since Tuesday. And I rooted and flashed it this morning. One problem is that I dunno how to enter recovery so I flashed the ROM right after I flashed the recovery.. I understand now that there is a flashable zip? Things are much easier with the nexus line

All the FTF have to be flashed on your device via Flashtool v0.9.13 compatible with your device and they are not zip. Recovery is in zip and all what you flash from recovery is in zip file.
Yeah I did that.. It had 257 fw, I flashed 534 with flashtool then I rooted by vroot, then ta backup with some bat file through computer and USB debugging, then installed recovery by bat file as well, which rebooted to recovery, I did factory reset/wipe, and flashed aroma ihackers 2.1 without custom kernel then switched off and flashed baseband and kernel by flashtool and rebooted, done..
Just like that. And you should be the one without knowledge?
Well, I put my mind to it.. And when I do that I usually succeed... But I still have unanswered questions, like what are the benefits of unlocking bootloader? How can I control led light color for different applications notifications.. I tried light flow and illumination bar, both didn't work.. Lastly I haven't got used to the camera ui as I haven't used it much and I already applied xposed 20 mp mod.. Lastly,, I like to thank you for all your attention and care and everything ... I really appreciated it
as i know the unlockbootloader is the only way to flash custom karnels.
i dont know mutch more then that, just switched from ios so i'm new to this.
I forgot to backup my TA does that make an issue and if, what kind?
sorry for thread steeling

Like @stianly said Unlocking Bootlader is needed to flash custom kernels only.

I read somewhere on XDA about that. EDIT: Try Gravity Box Xposed

Yes, it's a problem, without TA you lost your DRM keys permanently which are needed to re-lock your bootlader. You also lost the warranty of you device definitely.
yea i know the waranty and drm
but what does the drm keys do i lose some functions?

Yes, Bionz, X-Reality and probably Bravia Engine or something like that but your phone still working properly. Some users do not notice the difference with or without this features.
Ok I tried gravity box, can't find notifications led settings... Can you be more specific on this? Thanks...

Sorry, at the moment I don't have my phone so iI can't check for you but Gravity should have some options for that but maybe it's not the solution, I know it's possible, when I will know more something for your problem I will post.
OK thanks
Hello!
I have searched various places about rooting my SP. I am about to root my SP, it was newly bought (2 months old) so it would be better if the TA Partition is backed up. After inspecting several articles and stuffs, I was advised to back up my TA Partition before attempting to root my phone.
As of 12.1.A.0.266 update, rooting requires unlocking the bootloader. Which doesn't follow the rule to back up the TA Partition. As one may know, a phone must be rooted in order to back up the TA partition but at the same time, such bootloader must not be unlocked
I've searched everywhere I can, however I can't find any solution. Forgive me if there are any articles or thread created regarding the same topic.
Any immediate help would be extremely appreciated.
The phone is running latest stock firmware and had no customisations so far.

Use a pre-rooted rom (PureXSP, eXistenZ)...Not sure if it will work!Don't try unless a person with higher android knowledge skills answers!
How about you just FTF flash an older firmware?

flashing ftf won't require unlocked bootloader isn't it? I do thought of downgrading then root and then backup such TA partition.
No it wont.
For the Sony features like Bravia Engine etc you need the TA partition. Flashtool will (or should) work without the TA partition. It will only tell you that your bootloader is unlocked
I was in the exactly the same position as you few days ago when I decided to customize my Xperia SP
Here is what I have done...
I was on the latest .266 OTA updated FW and then ... ...
I downloaded and flashed with Flashtool "Xperia SP (C5303)_12.0.A.2.254_Generic_DE.with_loader.sin.ftf"
Then flash XperiaSP_C530X_12.0.A.1.257_KernelOnly.ftf
Now you can use DooMLoRD_Easy-Rooting-Toolkit_v18_perf-event-exploit.zip
and then flash back XperiaSP_C530X_12.0.A.2.254_KernelOnly.ftf for your current FW
Now that you have rooted your phone you can use Backup-TA-9.10 tool to backup your TA partition and save your precious DRM keys
And when you have your TA partition backup safely archived somewhere
you can go to Sony site to request code for unlocking bootloader.
When your bootloader is unlocked use FASTBOOT to flash any kernel that have custom recovery
(like Nayak03 or DoomLord's V05 or DoomLord's advanced STD .266)
and then when you have custom recovery you can install pretty much everything you find around here.
If you need more details or want me to put links to threads and files I've looked and download just say... :cyclops:

It is not about Flashing, it is warranty.. My phone is 2 months old and there are 8 more months for valid warranty.

Wohoo thanks! Yes, I do thought of the same way, however, I am looking forward to use the stock sony .266 FW after rooting the older 254. Any tutorial you can give here or any links I can get on how to actually "install" the .266 firmware?
Yes I do would like some links on downloading those stuff except Flashtool, I did have it already. If you don't mind posting them..
By the way, since I see that .266 FWs have different versions for each region on this world respectively, may I know how to get one that is international or south-east asia specific?
some links that might help you.. (links for downloading stuff in there...)

You just need to go step by step and in right order...
1 downgrade FW to 12.0.A.2.254 (or 245) DOWNLOAD HERE
2 change to rootable kernel 12.0.A.1.257 DOWNLOAD HERE
3 use DoomLords perf_exploit rooting script DOWNLOAD HERE
4 flash back kernel only 12.0.A.2.254 DOWNLOAD HERE
5 start your phone and start TABackup HERE
6 go to Sony site for an unlock code as explained HERE
for which you use Fastboot HERE
7 again with fastboot flash kernel with custom recovery like THIS one DoomKernel AdvStd .266
8 reboot to recovery while presing VOL+ key when lightshow starts and install CustomROM of your choice which you downloaded previously and put it on your microSD card.
OR if you want stock rooted FW
in step 7 first flash official .266 FW then fastboot DoomLords .266 AdvStd kernel
boot to recovery and from it root your system
:silly:
Thank you @mrhnet and @freedom74 !
You guys really solved my questions in a quick manner of time!
I just registered xda just to ask this question and I received a really good help.
I will read both posts and see what I can come up with my SP. I can't wait to root it! Again thank you, guys!
I hope nothing bad happens, this is my only phone and it costs so much

Hey I saw a post saying that it ripped firmwares from the SUS. Do you know how to do this, so that I can have the version right for my country?

I am searching coz I wanna downgrade to 4.1 so I can root then backup TA but I can't find the same global generic (which came with the devise)
so am looking for any good Rom support Arabic language
My X performance is now running Nougat. I am going to downgrade it back to 6.0.1. And therefore I downloaded the FlashTool. I can install the Flashmode Drivers and Fastboot Drivers. But I can't find the Xperia X Performance drivers in flashtool-0.9.23.1-windows. Do I need to manually download the drivers from https://developer.sonymobile.com/downloads/drivers/xperia-x-performance-driver/ and right click on .inf to install the drivers in Windows?
Secondly, since I never unlock my bootloader, I am going to backup using the backupTA_v2 via the Dirtycow. However, I wonder if I restore the TA partition after I root my phone, would the root also go away? Basically, I want to have my Xperia X performance in root state while having the original TA partition in place so that I can run the PS4 remote play app. As far as I understand, all the DRM recovery patch out there don't fix the PS4 remote play app.
Thanks.

Here is the rom.

If you want to install fastboot driver on windows 7 or later, you must reboot with driver signature enforcement disabled. Here is the video shows you how to install driver.
Restore TA partition will not lose your root access.

We backup TA partition because we want to keep SONY's special functions AFTER unlocking bootloader.
If you just want to flash different variant firmware, you don't need to unlock the bootloader, just find the FTF file and flash it into your phone.

Yes. Since you want to unlock bootloader, backing up TA partition is relevant to you. But you can only backup TA partition on Marshmallow (because SONY fix the dirtycow on Nougat). So you should downgrade first, then backup TA partition, then unlock bootloader.
