I bought it one year a ago and at this time it was the best phone out there. Since a lot of people bought it, there are many custom roms. Cyanogenmod 7 runs great and it gets a lot of support by MoDaCo since Paul O'Brian has got a source where he gets leaked updates and stuff. My O2X runs Temaseks Kang#52 and Vadonkas Etana Kernel with 32 MB ram hack.
But if I were to buy a new phone right now I'd wait for the new Models coming out. Because I want a 4,3 - 4,5 inch 1280x720p display without hardware buttons. I think it's worth waiting for it.

Hi
I am also from India ,recently bought this phone and i must say it has been awesome!I don't think there any competition for this phone being priced this low.Its like you are getting a high-end device for the price of mid range device.Near competitors are Galaxy R, Nexus S and Xperia Ray.But the Nexus and Ray are equipped with only single core processor and Galaxy R has similar specs as 2x but lacks gorilla glass,IPS and 8MP.
The main issue with the device is the volume.
Moreover since it was released nearly a year ago developments have flourished hence the device has good support from developers. The sole disadvantage is that the device is from LG and LG support has not been good.
PS-Galaxy S2 is priced at 30k($600) in India while 2x is at 20k($400)...and i don't see a 10k($200) difference.
The above comment is based on the scenario in Indian markets. New devices will always be priced high in Indian market.
Agree with the above.
For the time being I don't see any other device with such a good price/quality ratio as this phone. I've been "abusing" it for almost two weeks now and I think it's great. And I'm still on stock!
same here,
this phone gives a very good value for the money.
it has its issues but again worth every euro spent here in the NL
(220 euro) while SG2 is double the money and has a really bad plastic quality feel (i have them in my company and all the sales rep hate me because of that)
so yeh this phone is great with 2nd generation chips so just dip it into some nice roms / kernel and bon-appetite
The best choice is samsung Galaxy SII for 400$.
How the battery life on 2x???

With a custom kang kernel and rom you can get around two days with moderate use.
Best phone Optimus 2X and cheap too for this performance.
I wouldn't swap my O2X for any other phone out there at the minute. Stick CM7 / MIUI on it and enjoy the best performance to price ratio...
I would say the O2X is a very sweet phone, but i would save up for the S2.
In terms of performance, both are close if you flash CM7 Temasek Kang + Vadonka's new kernel (3 feb) for the O2X.
Battery life on both is amazing.
But the S2 is slimmer, lighter, better screen (Amo-LED).
Even if you get the O2X, you will not be disappointed My O2X is beating my friends S2 (ICS rom) in benchmarks, browsing and battery life

Hey I am also from India and at 20k bucks this phone is worth it , my real sister has a sgs2 and I dont really see the reason to pay 10k more for a better screen,512mb more ram and 8gb more internal memory. Also the build quality of O2x is better than that of sgs2. I say go for it !

I converted rupees to pounds and your right about it in terms of money. I got mine for £200 delivered, but conversions show 20k rupee is about £260. So if its another 10k more (50% more), then it would be about £330. This is abit much for the S2 when compared to the 2X that basically performs the same.
In the UK, the pricing is crazy, but if we had the choice to pay another 50% for the S2, most of us would. Its seen as the top end phone that is also a fashion phone. Build quality on both are good, but the S2 is thinner and lighter.
Screen is subjective to the user since the 2X has an IPS screen which is fantastic compared to normal LCD and all those other screen types. But Amo-LED is very different. To me personally, the colours are more vibrant and contrast is much bigger at lower brightness.
Anyway, it depends on if your willing to spend abit more and if its quick to make that money. Same technology rules apply. There will always be better, and the extras in the S2 would be like future-proofing for next gen crazy software
For best value to performance ratio you can't beat this phone.
2x is my first android device and from my short experience with it i beleive that it is best value for money!

See theres really no need to pay 10k extra for some eye candy and ram, I'd rather save those 10k and a year later sell off my o2x and buy a quad core phone , sgs2 is old now since sgs3 closer, but if o2x would still be selling for 26k like the release price it would have been a better choice to put in 2k more and buy a sgs2

For the price -lg optimus 2x is the best you can get with its price.
For the quality- lg 2x cost less than some 1 core phones so you should ask yourself why.
Even with kang's, cyanogenmod roms there are some problems that are not just ''eye candy''.
Lg official support sucks- don't ever expect anything from them, they make promises just like in politics.
I can tell you what problems i got with the cyanogenmod roms and kangs:
-camera quality is really really low for a 8mpx camera- sgs2 has way better video/photo quality- videos cannot be called hd videos- that's an insult for hd definition-no autofocus in videos;
-hdmi has some problems in cyanogenmod but is good on stock rom- sometimes i get a few seconds of black screen idk why, it still happens with tamasek's kang 55
-often when i go to sleep and put the phone into charge with an alarm on, in the morning the alarm doesn't start and the phone's screen is just black-can be solved only by removing the battery;
-having 150mb ram free is not only an eye candy problem;
A better screen (amoled is another life-if you have the opportunity try looking at the same photo on the 2 phones and you will see a HUGE difference), a better camera, more ram, more internal memory, ICS- i think those things worth the price difference.
Still, for its price is the best choice , for its quality it is not. I have an o2x but only because i was too stupid to wait 1 more month and get the sgs2 (, think how i feel now when i get less than half of what i paid it if i want to sell it!
Is the O2X a good phone? Just look at how many good devs we've got working with it -that should tell you something!
I've had mine since late last spring and nothing that's come out since has given me a reason to change...
Have flashed a lot of ROMs and am presently running Temasek's CM7 Kang No 53 and the most recent version of Vadonka's ETaNa kernel -fantastic stuff.
Buy one. You won't be sorry.
My phone's battery is running out from 100 to 0 in 10 minutes or so and I need to be next to a charger 100% of the time...
I really need a new phone and thought about the OnePlus 3t and HTC 10... (Both are about the same price in Israel)
I need a phone with an awesome battery life and camera, good display, performance and build quality... Do you have any suggestions? And if not any of these phones, which phone do you recommend?
Any one?
Well, my opinion is very biased, since I chose the OP3T. But I was a loyal HTC fan, and this is my first smartphone that isn't an HTC (after owning 5 different HTC phones).
The main discriminators for me were price (OP3T is $439 US versus $599 for the HTC10) and the fact that the 10 felt like "last generation" to me. It's true that the OP3T is really only a half a year/generation newer. But the 10 really did feel like last years model to me, with the U and U Ultra coming soon.
My last phone is the HTC M9, going on 3 years old now. So for me, the OP3T is a big upgrade. It's blazing fast, takes really nice photos, and the AMOLED screen is beautiful. Now the downsides are the screen resolution (probably only an issue if you want to do VR), lowlight photos (although I've been doing fine, and I take a lot of pics of my kids) and no SD card slot (for now, the 64 GB version is fine - or you can go for the 128 GB version).
The battery life on the OP3T has also been impressive. Plus, with the included Dash charger, it charges really fast.
The 10 is a nice phone as well. I think all you really gain (versus the OP3T) is more audio/music centric features, and an SD slot. Although the OP3T speakers still sound pretty good, even with a single bottom firing speaker.

Honestly, get the HTC 10. It recently became available here in Germany for the same price as the 3T and if I'd haven't bought the 3T a month ago, I'd have chosen the HTC.

Better camera, more accessories, better support, easier to get repaired, just a reliable daily driver.
Also, just get one of them. Not much sense making a dilemma out of these first world problems.

I never understood why people keep asking what phone should they buy. Most people just buy their phones only to be seen by other people what a great phone they have. Personally, I buy the phone that I like the looks of it and which fits my needs. And that`s how I got my OP 3T. Before buying it, I`ve seen some reviews which 90% were pretty good for me. The things I wanted most were amazing performance, battery that gets me through 1 day, fast charging, a stock android with a lot customize options. OP 3T has all of them. Have to mention that I had the chance to buy S7 Edge and HTC 10 at around 400 euros. But again, 3T had all the things I need, so I went for it.
Its sad to buy things just to have the best one from the market. Its not like you buy a Buggati Veiron, just to have the fastest car in your city. Same goes for the phones. Just buy whatever you like most and whatever fits your daily needs. If you want performance, go for OP3T, S7,S7 edge, htc 10, Moto Z and so on. If you want photography, go for Moto Z and buy yourself the camera mods, and so on. its very simple

I really not looking for best in market...
I just think that the 10 is better for me and I don't know if I'm right
I need a very (very) good camera
A very good battery
A good performance
A decent screen (at least 400 PPI)
And decent build quality
What phone do you think will be the best for me?
(It will be nice to have OLED display, usb-c, 4+- ram, and SD slot if less than 64 GB)
depends what you want I've gone from a Mi5 128GB to a OP3T and not sure if I regret it or not, the size is a pain for me, yes it's great for media, but daily use on the move the smaller size of the Mi5 was awesome.
Both great phones, but for different reasons.

Well, they aren't the same price for me. And I'm not a big fan of making that judgment, based on a hypothetical situation that doesn't exist for me.
They are both very solid phones, and there is no reason to feel "stupid" in any case. Everyone has different preferences and opinions on what constitutes the "best" for them. So at the end of the day, the only "right" or "wrong" decision lies with you, not what others think.

I had some reservations about moving to a larger screen/phone myself. But honestly, now that I have the OP3T, I'm really liking having a bit larger screen. Not just for video, but for web browsing, and other things. As long as it fits in my pocket, who cares if its a bit bigger? I seriously think I've have trouble going back to a smaller screen at this point.
So the OP5 is coming soon, we have few leaks about it but are you thinking about an upgrade ? Or you will keep this beast for one/two more years ?
I just got mine yesturday so i plan on keeping it till at least the 6 comes out.
I'll upgrade if the specs are good. 2k screen with a good camera and easily unlockable with good dev support. If not I'll get a new different phone either the international Note 8 version with unlocked bootloader or the new Pixel.
Just saw the news said they drop support for the op2. Hope OnePlus won't drop the software update support on op3t. Otherwise I will use 3t until op6 comes out.
Nah, I´m really happy with the change from a Nexus 6P to the 3T. The only downside is the camera at night and to be honest with myself I don´t use the camera enough to justify an upgrade. I love the 1080 screen, 6gb ram (especially at the beta, app management is the best on any android phone I´ve experienced). And regarding android upgrades, as long as i get security patches I´m happy. Google seems to f#ck things up more and more along the road..
I didn't buy 3T to upgrade it just after the next gen comes. Like seriously, the purpose of all those specs like 6GB of RAM is to last long and endure technological evolution process as well.
BTW I had an opportunity to get my hands onto S8 recently and even for free I wouldn't swap these devices even though 3T is from the previous generation of flagships (which apparently means nothing in this case).
I have the 3T since January. No reasons to upgrade. I'll keep it for 2 years, I hope.
not yet, unless the OP5 is groundbreaking
Maybe
Oh I'm upgrading but def not to the OP5. Probably gonna grab an S8+ pretty soon and then the Note 8 when it comes out. I only buy OPs if I need a new phone and there's nothing out that interests me. They are great interim phones, for sure.
If it'll be under 500€ i'll buy it
Im going to go with a solid maybe. Normally i dont buy phones for cameras. Never have never will. but im very interested in this things camera, those picture samples leaked are SOOOOOOO damn good looking. Normally id reach for my nikon but holy moly the detail. You know youve got a good camera if you can see the scales on a strawberry. The 835 sounds amazing 6gb ram is super useful and if that new leak is true with the 30 minute full charge on dash, thats a buy right there just for the charging feature. My lord-y thats just smartphone bliss right there. Forget battery banks imagine what you can get in a 5 minute charge. Theyll change the tag line to a whole days power in a 10th of an hour.

They've already confirmed it will use snapdragon 835. That's about a 10% performance increase over snapdragon 821.
I do belive that the 5 is a good idea. Im sure they way they use the 835 it will be more than 10%
I've owned alot of phones in my time, but the OP3t is hands down my favorite. The OP5 is gonna have to bring a lot more then just a camera upgrade for me to drop 500 bucks on it.
If the price is between $400 & $450, I'll buy immediately. If it's qHd I'll buy immediately, below $600. If the materials are new (ceramic) I'll buy immediately.
If not, I'm going to wait and see what the Note looks like. Or the Mate.
I love this phone and only got it in March or something.

If you just got it in March no need to upgrade in my opinion, your phone is still new
My beloved rooted Nexus 5 is now well past its best before date and on searching a replacement device am suffering sticker price shock for ' flagship' phones
Am considering the Essential PH1 considering its specs vs price point.
Take few photos, with performance as a 'Phone' - particularly battery life - a higher priority than camera
Given the litany of 'issues' reported and the stability of its manufacturer am I losing my mind seriously considering Essential ?
Should I just suck it up and spend the bucks (One+ 6 would be my current choice)
Any insight &/or suggestions from former N5 users would welcome
TIA

Poco not on my shortlist - apparently no B4 band (needed in Canada for LTE) . Thanks for suggestion tho.
Would you share why you've ruled out the One Plus ?
Of course. It's because they are getting damn expensive and more like the "hip and fancy" brands. I mean they have some benefits like the really good software and update support. But they started with under 300 € I think and now the OnePlus 6t will cost nearly 600€. Also the design ...the glass and the notch, it's horrible in my opinion.
If you are willing to pay that much the one plus is a good choice but if you can wait a half year you can buy the half year old Samsung phones. They get much cheaper in some time. The OnePlus won't. And if you root anyway you can flash AOSP on the Samsung. The worst thing is the bloatware on this devices.

I'm going through the same dilemma. All the phones I looked at (Oneplus 6, Moto C, etc) had their own problems! So for the moment I'm staying with my rooted N5 running lineageos 14.1 (Nougat). Seems the best and most secure option for now.....

i still have my nexus 5 and its working, but the battery life its so bad, i moved to the pocophone f1 at less than 400 dollars with almost all flagship specs its the nexus phone that we wanted cheap, full flagship features, and price performance that no phone offers currently.
Another alternative if you dont like the pocophone f1, its the Nokia 8 (2017), the only disadvantage of that you cant unlock the bootloader its pretty cheap at less than 400 dollars, the nexus pricing, premium performance and features.

As mentioned above Poco won't work for me :crying: as am in Canada and Poco does not support Band B to enable LTE.
Nokia's showing as Not Available on Amazon.ca Unlockable boot loader might be an issue Thanks for the suggestion Can you reference source of < $400 pricing ?
Not sure how long my Nexus will survive with current hardware issue ( sound only when it feels like it and doesn't feel like it more often than not).
Not hearing anyone saying they grabbed Essential ... maybe answering my question

I would recommend the zuk z2. Perfect replacement for my N5
I switched to a Moto X4 just a few weeks back from my trusty old Nexus 5. It's not a big upgrade, in a lot of ways, but you also don't lose anything you might with comparable phones (like a headphone jack).
As said, it's by no means a flagship device, but so far I'm happy with it, especially considering the 180€ price tag.

Have you considered self repairing? They N5 is easy to take apart and replacement parts are cheap on Ebay.
Google your sound problem. Sounds like a possible loose connection somewhere. May just need to disconnect and reconnect that part. That plus a new battery for $6 may give you a 'new' nexus 5.

I'm in my last days with my beloved N5! It is the best Smartphone, I've ever owned - it has been nearly 5 years. I replaced the battery a year ago with an (allegedly) original battery. Since a few months the battery life is worsening day by day. I'm running Lineage 14.1, which runs smooth and stable. Since a few days, the device turns itself off every now and then. I guess it's a hardware problem; I've openened it and tried to reattach every connection, without success.
I will be going for a Pixel 3 because...
- It seems to be THE ONLY flagship usable with one hand
- The most annoying thing with the N5 was the Camera in any lower light condition. Hence I opt for a top-notch-camera
- A big part of the good experience I had with the N5 was due to the great developer community. Software-wise I'm still (almost) up to date! I'm hoping that the Pixel 3 will last for at least 5 years... All the other phones with a strong community are just too large for me (Xiaomi, OnePlus, Moto G6...)
- It is reasonably easy to take apart; I will be able to replace the battery myself and in a few years the replacement displays wont cost a fortune anymore.
I know that the Pixel 3 is overprized, but considering, that the smartphone is the object I use the most in my life, I came to the conclusion, that i want to spend that money. And if I compare myself to some friends, who might not spend 900$ on a phone, but then buy a new 300-400$ Phone every 2 years, I will probably still pay less after all...
But again: I would go for a Xiaomi/Poco/OnePlus IF THEY WOULD STOP MAKING TABLETS AND START MAKING PHONES AGAIN!

I bought it and it is the perfect replacement! Same size, beast of a performance and also the best custom ROM development! It has about 8 Pie ROMs and has camera2api! I really love this device!

Have you considered sony xz2 compact? It is still a compact phone, not so recent I know, but with reasonable price...
Otherwise there is Xiaomi mi A2 lite, with Android One, and at 200$ I think it could be a good investment. Also it has great support.
I hope I'm in time for the suggestions!

Thanks, but you're too late
I'll get the Pixel 3 tomorrow. The XZ2 is nice, although a bit chunky. Sad they didn't bring out a xz3 compact together with the xz3...
The Mi A2 Lite is ok, but no flagship phone... The problem with the affordable brands is, that they essentially all design phones for the Asian market, where for many people the phone is at the same time their Computer and TV and hence bigger is better...
i got myself a Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite about a week ago because my nexus 5 really started to show its age after 4+ years, do any of you guys have this device/plan to get it?
if so let me know because i'm trying to get a community together for this device, it already has a TWRP port, and i started my bootloader unlock process (it told me i had to wait 15 days and it feels like forever lol)
i also posted a request in the new device request thread
hopefully we'll get our own place soon hehe
Hi, I've been a Samsung user for as long as I can remember and recently I decided to just let it go, phones are very expensive and it just doesn't feel like I'm really getting what I'm paying for or at least I'm paying way too much for anything really innovative.
So, I decided to give something else a chance. I'm actually on the fence with a Mi 9t Pro or a Oneplus 7 Pro. I've been reading and watching a lot of reviews but I just can't decide.
OP 7 Pro looks fantastic, but the only thing that would make me buy it is how often the device gets updates, so far it seems like they push updates very often and that's a very good thing. Other than that, I get the same feeling, way to pricey and there are many things that the phone should have for that money, such as water/dust resistance or the lack of AOD, for the price it feels like a wasted opportunity, and I just want to avoid feeling that I wasted a lot of money for a device that will be left behind once the newest one is announced.
About the Mi 9t Pro (need B2 band missing in the K20 Pro). How often does the device gets updates? I don't care if pictures aren't superior to the S10 + ones, just want to get decent to good photos, and keep reading mixed opinions about this. I know I can OC the screen so I don't care about the refresh rate.
It's been a while since I rooted a phone and used magisk so I will have to learn again which I don't mind. But I don't like the idea of buying or spending money for a phone that NEEDS to be rooted in order to get "basic stuff" working or at least working the way it should, which one of them does need less "optimization"?
Another important thing is the community here on XDA, is Oneplus community bigger than Xiaomi's?
So, If any of yous guys have used both or at least have experience with both OnePlus and Xiaomi devices, which one do you think I should buy? I know it depends on what I'm looking for or what I value most. If this helps I'm just looking for the best value for my money.

Have never had Xiaomi phone but I can tell you right now, Oneplus has the best community and awesome software support .I currently have the 6T and have been really wanting the 7 pro or one of the 9T phones Only thing holding me back is OxygenOS on Oneplus for frequent updates with soon to Android 10.
Have been doing a lot of research myself and MiUI has some things that OxygenOS doesn't such as AOD and other little things, overall it seems more featurfull but OxygenOS is still pretty great and lightning fast,
In terms of value for money I would probably say go with the 9T if you don't truly care about frequency of updates and community,I think Xiaomi does have a decent following on here and on Reddit, you will not be stuck for help.
Though the 7pro certainly looks the better phone,is it worth the price,I'm not so sure.Thats why I had it in my cart ready to buy on day one but just couldn't justify to myself paying that price when there are other phones like the 9T pro out there

Thanks for taking some time to answer. That's the exact same thing happening to me right now. I have the 9t and the Oneplus in my cart. But somehow I just can't justify the Oneplus price, I feel like hoping in the Samsung wagon again, paying a lot for nothing new just a pretty modern device and it's just worse if I want to buy the blue OP 7 Pro, OnePlus is becoming a flagship itself and it feels like the real Flagship killer is the K20/9T Pro.
I'm getting more inclined towards custom roms and mods, years ago I couldn't stop switching roms on my HTC One, great times!! Still can't decide.
Also, is the quality on Xiaomi devices any good? I mean, it won't break like in 4 months or so?

No I think the Xiaomi phones are of high quality,I hear of people using them for you to 5 years no problem, yea Samsung is too expensive as compared to the other two but the Oneplus 7 pro is too expensive compared to the 9T,
Honestly if I was buying a phone because I wanted to use it for two or more years I would go with the 7 pro (but at this point I'd wait for the 7T pro).
I currently have 6T and am just thinking of a temporary change, maybe one year just to take advantage of the better camera ,battery than my 6T.I will probably buy the Oneplus 8 next year then because I do believe OnePlus is the better company for software with Best hardware possible. If your in to modding and all that why not go for the k20 pro which is Really cheap with plenty of support

I think you gave me the best answer I could expect. I was on the same boat, thinking about not buying the OP because next year it will be better and I wont be spending a lot of money again. But if I get to buy something cheaper, next year I can finally get my first OnePlus.
Thank you very much!!

Yes but you have to be careful with that line of thought,I will sell my 6T and buy a basic 9T if I decide to go that route, though at moment edging towards keeping my 6T. You Will want to probably sell whatever phone you have now if money is an issue, not forgetting the 9T pro is not really that cheap here in Europe where I am and next year when the OnePlus 8 comes could be looking at €800.(I say I will buy that phone now but when time comes I will likely not and go for another Xaoimi)
My point is all this buying could add up over time, perhaps could be worth holding on to your Samsung if you plan on buying something more expensive next year, though I certainly have an itch for the 9T and can see the value at least for me as I won't lose any money in the short term

That's exactly what I intend to do. I have a Note 8 Exynos version, which sucks, and I was thinking of selling it to buy the 9T, it's no that cheap here in Mexico either.
But if I buy the 9T I won't be selling it yet, and will see what happens next year. One thing I can tell, I won't be buying another super expensive phone if I don't think is really worth it, nowadays we only get better cameras, barely better processors... but nothing really new yet prices are still going up, it's just not worth it anymore.

Your absolutely right,no need to spend massively anymore with phones like the 9T being released,
So have you decided on the 9T then ?
Let us know how you get on.
My expectations are the 9T is enough for anyone, plenty of features, good battery, decent cameras
