OnePlus 5 Battery Life Thread
Hi all,
I figure it would be useful to get a battery life thread going so we can see what type of performance we can get and also understand how people might be improving their battery performance.
I haven't done one full battery drain yet as I only got the phone yesterday. I will be doing that on this cycle to see how it performs. For reference I am at 90% after about 7 ½ hours having put down at 100% and not on the charger when I slept. I had 2% battery drain over night (slept maybe 6 ½ hours) and have 54 minutes SOT (light usage, just messaging, Twitter, slack, chrome etc) with the remaining 8%. I'm not sure how OP phones battery life reduce, I know LG always has a strong first 10% and then rapidly drops off for example.
In terms of setup, I am rooted and using Doze Settings Editor (GeraldRudi preset), Naptime, Leandroid (but I need to figure out if this is actually working). I am also using dark themes were possible as these are better for AMOLED screens. I've also tweaked kernel in EXKM but nothing major that would positively impact battery.

Just to follow up, I have completed my first full cycle and can report that I got just over 6 hours of SOT over about 33 hours.
I had a bit of Bluetooth and GPS but I do keep the screen brightness as low as possible which really does help battery life as well.
I have also included CPU frequencies for reference, I haven't made any governor tweaks but that would be something to look at or maybe wait for custom kernels which I'm sure would have different governors including EAS based ones.

For a stock rom thats some great values. Im on 40% now and got like 4hrs SOT. Device is running for like 29 hrs. Probably got the same as you

Yeah I definitely think so. There has been a trend in recent years of reducing battery life IMO. I had easily 8 hours of SOT over two full days on my HTC One M8 when I first got it and each year it's just gotten worse to the point now where 6 hours is considered great but I'm not complaining, I will take that over other phones barely managing 4 to 5 hours SOT.
Very excited to see how far this phone can be optimised on battery life with custom ROMs and Kernels. Good days ahead
Make sure to post your results when you complete a full charge and what you've done battery savingwise to achieve that

The battery life in mine is awesome. 21 hours, on 4g/WiFi and 4:30 hours SOT on half battery.
Probably will last me more than 2 days with normal usage

I can get around 8 hours SOT with medium use and brightness set to low. I am mostly indoors and I am impressed. With the same usage on my OPO I got 3.5 hours SOT.

ElementalX and 4.5.2 is out and coming out very shortly so the game will change again battery life wise. There will be different kernels that will help or hinder battery life depending on how much they are geared that way or towards performance.

After 5hrs of screen on time and 13hrs of standby mostly on 4g, still have 38% of juice left! All stock ofcoz.

Awesome. The OP5 definitely looks like a good phone for battery life as we can run the phone pretty hard and still get decent SOT

Im just waiting for official TWRP to root and tweak the whole phone. It can even be better.

My first charge was data only. I've had a couple of issues with stand by drain but I think that has been sorted now (back down to 2-3% drain over night) so should be able to get another decent reading today.
I am however now on freedomOS and ElementalX so things are changing up and I can see there is another OTA fix on the way.bit hard in the early weeks to get through a full day without something changing!!

I have never been more pleased, I might just get 8-9 hrs of SoT

This too

I like what I see .
Pg, pls also post also when you're using data (if you're using)

[Q] Battery life

Hello everyone,
I wonder how much battery life you have on i9000 with stock battery (1500mHa) on cm 10.1 with semaphore kernel?
Asking, just because I can only get max. 12h of battery life with cm 10.1 20130218 rom and semaphore 2.9.10, smartassv2 and row. Wondering is this normal or my battery needs to be changed. Any suggestions to max battery life on i9000 would be appreciated too
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
The battery can last between 3hours and a week, depending on how you use your phone, so that's not a good question to ask.
If you feel that the battery is running out too quickly then download betterbatterystats and look for any apps using unusually high partial wakelocks or alarms and get rid of them. It only takes 1 rogue app to screw up your battery life.

I think he knows that.
12 hours uptime is not uncommon, especially when on 3g a lot. On wifi you should be able to get at least 20 h in my experience. If the battery is as old as your phone I suppose its capacity is not what it used to be, and you might consider replacing it with a sgs+ one f.i. - they come cheap nowaways!

That's in your experience, the way you use your phone.
Try playing NFS MW or something. You'll get about 2 hours on a gti9000. It varies far too much to try and tell people how many hours battery life they should be getting. Totally depends.

I use my phone for 3h wifi browsing, 30 min. music and 30 min gaming, but nothing intense. And with this usage I get 12h battery life. Flashed 2.3.5 stock rom. Still getting 18h max. So I think this comes to conclusion that my battery is old enough. That's why I asked for the battery life you get, because I didnt knew this is usual or not
My last for 2 days more or less depending on usage.
AW: [Q] Battery life
Guys i think its wrong to measure the battery life with how long your phone is working. i personally look at the screen on time it says more than just how long our device is working. I get always stats around 3h its unimportant if my Phone works 6h or 18h.

[Q] Verizon Nexus 6 battery issues

I've had the Verizon version of the Nexus 6 for a week now. The battery life so far has been horrible. I have a friend who has a Sprint version and he doesn't seem to have the same issues that I have. He hasn't turned any features off (vibration, location, or lowered brightness) and he gets decent battery life. I have turned off location, haptic feedback, ambiant display, brightness to 10% and I can barely get 3 hours screen time. I read other posts about battery life from other users and some say they have no problem. 4 hours screen time is usual for them without turning off anything. Are they just trolling? Does anyone have any suggestions? Please help!

i see between 5.5-6.5 hours sot. battery life has everything to do with how you personally setup your device, what apps you personally choose to install and use, and very much about the phone/data signal quality.also, brightness plays a huge factor. i keep my brightness very low, around 10%. if i raise it to 35%-40%, ill get 1 hour less sot.
Wow..5 hour OST. I'm jealous. I don't know what else to change on my.phone to improve it. I already have brightness down to 10%. Plus a lot of other bells and whistles turned off. Maybe the Verizon version is over clocked or something?
No the Verizon version is exactly the same as everybody else's. there is absolutely nothing different other than that tramp stamp on the back

do you play lots of games? i dont. but games will kill your battery quickly, especially if its a gpu intensive game. could also be the quality of your signal. bad quality signal, your battery will always be bad.
Verizon Cloud White 64 GB here. Running completely stock with brightness always at 10% except for a few minutes when I'm outside. I have data and GPS and Wifi and Bluetooth always off when not in use. I mainly use the phone to text and check emails and it only lasts me one full day. Most of the time I have 1.5 hours of screen time. I'll come home with like 25% and only 1.5 or 2 hours SOT. No crazy apps in the background draining battery either, I've checked with BetterBatteryStats and Gsam. I tried flashing lean kernel and underclocked very slightly and the battery life is about the same as on stock kernel. It's really weird because I had a 32GB Blue and easily got 3 hours of SOT and this white one hasn't had as good battery life.

For me stock I get about 3.5 SOT, running Chroma with exactly the same setup I get 5.5 hours SOT. I would suggest trying chroma out. Only thing missing right now on Chroma is verizon visual voicemail.

I'm on vzw. I started this morning at 80% battery. 3.5 hours sot with 30% battery left. I'm using chroma and its amazing with the elementalx kernel. But you really can't compare battery between different users. Everyone uses their phone differently so its tough to accurately measure.

I'm thinking about Chroma for all the battery life I have heard. Do you experience any lag or bugs at all? I haven't had good luck with ROMs on other phones before. Also, am I required to wipe the phone before flashing each new build? Or is it just recommended?

going from stock to aosp rom, youll have to wipe the very first flash. then when the rom updates, you dont have to wipe anymore. youll have to wipe that first time because aosp wont boot over stock.

Chroma is way faster than stock, so no there isn't any lag. The wiping question has already been answered. As for bugs there are a few minor ones but nothing that breaks using it as a daily driver. The only issue I already mentioned for Verizon users no visual voicemail.
I should mention, just do a backup of stock in twrp flash Chroma and if you don't like it you can always revert back with your backup in a few minutes.

Best or ideal kernel settings for best battery life with good performance?

The title explains it all—I'm wondering what the best kernel settings are to achieve the best battery life without completely dropping performance. I've never tweaked the kernel on any phone I've owned before, so I have no idea what those settings might be. I currently get around 5-6 hours of SOT, which is great for heavy usage but with a battery those huge we should expect way more.
I'm currently playing around with majorly under clocking the CPU (Currently testing at 1.2 GHz) and have yet to notice a difference in performance. I'll update with battery improvements if any arise.
Sent from my DROID Turbo using Tapatalk
im on zzmove with profile 6, run only 2 core at 2.4Ghz and every thing seem good
phone run cool and great in game(framerate still good and more stable since no throttling at all, before that with stock, my phone get hot and lag if i play asphat for long) not sure about battery yet but seem good
Try computerfreak ROM, i'm getting 77 hrs on battery and 6 SOT!
Oops just now noticed I had replies.
I'm currently running Resurrection Remix and I seem to be getting better battery life than I was on stock, which is odd; however, I wish to get more. Update me on those kernel settings.
Also I noticed that when I'm at school the cellular signal drains my battery considerably. The signal there is poor, is there any way I can minimize the drainage?

That's a ridiculously easy thing to do, I can't believe I didn't think of this. However, its rather inconvenient. Any other ways? I heard back in 4.4.4 that there was a way to disable certain bands or something to consume less power when you have bad signal.

I'm on rr and honestly I'm not getting the best battery. Like 3.5 hour on screen time. It does still make it through the day though. I changed the kernel settings to conservative under cpu, which helped a lot from previously getting under 3.

Settings, configs, performance tuning, kernal tweaks, then in the app in the cpu tab, the cpu governor option. That's where I found it and I turned it down and I'm getting better battery.
That's odd. I get considerable better battery life on RR than I did on stock. I've hit 5.5 and even 6 hours of SOT with heavy to medium use (when I'm not at school at least).
Same here, but I noticed it lasts much longer with Greenify and Amplify installed with Xposed. I lose about 2-3% during standby mode during the night....whereas before I lost about 10-15% even while on RR.
Just got 7HR and 4 mins screen on time with in 2 days didnt use my phone at school only when i was at home so i guess 7hr's is good..

That sounds right about what stock should be getting for some users. It's good to reference stock with your personal use versus someone else.
1 hour of a playing a game with full brightness will use significantly more battery than an hour of book reading on night move although they both technically have the same screen on time.

I usually consistently got about 5 hours and 30 minutes of screen on time on stock with medium to heavy usage at school and at home.
On Resurrection Remix, I usually get 5 or sometimes 5 and a half or 6 hours, with heavy usage at home. On school days, I can only manage to get around 3, which I find incredibly odd. I chalk it up to the poor signal at my school draining my battery.

You can get 48 hrs on the Turbo. You can also get 5 hrs. Like I said before, it all depends on your personal usage. Perhaps they have a baseline test they do on every phone so there's no variable aside from battery.

Screen on time

It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the OnePlus 5T before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

Now had my first Cycle. For that big screen it's more than good. In Comparison to Op5 and Nexus 6p you can see the difference Qhd on Nexus to FullHD on Op5 a day FullHD+ on Op5t. For all the people who want more Resolution inxmy opinion FullHD+ is best choice because it needs less battery and I can not see any Pixels on that great Samsung panels
I got 6 and 51 minutes SOT
24hrs later after first charge from yesterday.
6hrs SOT seems easy target from me. I Will try get some game play for heavy duty test in this weekend.
First full day of use, quite impressed!
I request the OP to edit his first post and tell the users to charge phone till 100% and let it discharge under 10% before posting SOTs without charging in between for the most accurate result.
I had the pleasure of using the OP5 before getting the OP5T and i feel OP5 battery drain was lesser as compared to the T. This is not to say that OP5T has a bad battery life but i was able to get 7.5-8 hrs on OP5 on moderate use with 5-8% remaining. On the T i get around 6-6.5 hrs which is decent. Maybe after a few cycles it might improve.
Awesome battery life guys
Typical usage day, 2.5 hours of YouTube and some video calls, chatting etc. OnePlus 3 I got 3 to 3.5 sot max (freedomOS and bluespark). WiFi and 4G.
I like this, never had even near 6 hours in any phone.
Happy but I think a custom rom will get more.

Easy answer: smaller Screen means less power consumption. Amoled 5.5 inch vs 6
Wait for updates they will improve bugs for more battery life I think.

Sot (for who has bad one)

Hi guys
I'm not discovering the fire but I want to make a little contribution for those who has bad sot (I was really annoying for me because I can understand the upsets users ones), this was my discoveries:
The first one and most important:
It seems that the phone is programmed for a certain time of use, I mean it has a maximum time for sot: 6 - 9 hrs so you have to use that time to spend it on screen time because the phone also uses the battery for other stuffs. So if you pretend to get 6 hours or more in more than 1 day you will become mad and taking the phone and throwing it throw the window.
The second one:
Continuing with the last point doesn't matter if you try to save battery reducing resolution or stuffs like that. I use every day performance mode at max resolution and sound quality. The important thing is manage very well the brightness so disable the 10%extra from performance mode. Actually I could reach 6 hours at 1% with a intensive use with wify, data, gps and stuff like that.
The third one:
It is unuseful try to disable things and apps from the phone, they are not important on battery usage except for brightness and (at least for me) AOD. This one drains my battery and I really don't know what to do with this so it is disabled for me.
And the fourth and last one:
It seems that the battery needs a intensive usage in order to get it max potential. Some days ago I use the phone heavily charging it with the dex dock and using the interface and I noticed before that the battery expand it life.
Well, I'm testing if a dark theme is useful or not in order to get better sot but mean while I'm pretty happy with the battery life (40 days of usage); at beginning was very upset with this.
Hope to be useful for anyone.
Cheers and my best regards and thankfulness for the help of the community.
Thanks man
