Ive had this thing for a while sitting around doing nothing. Bought a "charging" mhl cable which gives me about 8-10 hours playing 720p hd video on my tv (vs 1 hour with a non charging mhl cable). It does charge when I am not using Kodi, so for most intensive purposes its fine. Watching Kodi beyond that (8 hours) and the battery will drain. So my question:
Is there a specific rom\kernel combination that is best for battery life? One that may net even less of a drop while Kodi runs? (16 hours is the max I would use it) I have disabled every service and program I could.
All that matter is Kodi. That all it is used for. Currently on 5.02 ViperONE rom and ElementalX kernel 20.2.
EDIT: Like is there better kernel\power saving settings? Or does everyone have this? It is so perfect as an KODI box for about 10 hours... It seems like such a waste.
EDIT: Nevermind. Threw phone in trash it ruined a date. what a waste I can spend 20 bucks on a full 1080p android media player that will last a lifetime, but this 500 dollar phone a few years ago phone is rotting away in a landfill. I look firther to ending the world.

Hi All.... Bad day for me today - to cut a long story short, I drove over my beloved Archos AV560 media player, and naturally it has ceased to be. I used to listen to it several hours a day, but now I'm using a borrowed Ipod Nano. I read in another forum that the Kaiser dosent sound a lot different to the nano, so I thought about using the Kaiser as an mp3 player. At the moment I've got a Vario II (Tytn), and am due an ungrade in February.
Basically I'd like some feedback on battery life as an mp3 player, with screen off/on, with phone/3G off etc.
Thanks all.
Tim
I don't have battery statistics, but here are two relevant threads.
Audio playback - as good as Ipod?
Tilt: Music Playback Audio Problem (Glitch 'skip' heard every 3-4 minutes)
IMO, at the moment, the Kaiser is a poor choice for multimedia playback. It will have less battery life than an iPod/regular DAP because it doesn't have hardware acceleration.
With bluetooth headphones, my Kaiser skips like crazy (2-3 times a minute).
To use regular headphones, you need a 3rd part adapter. The D/A converter is much worse than the one in the iPod. Battery life will will be relatively bad (less than 8 hours continuous music, I would guess). Not to mention the fact that the largest MicroSD card you can buy is 8GB, for $120. For a couple of bucks more, you can get a 30GB iPod Classic or 8GB iPod Nano.
In my experience,
Under these specs,
-System Volume set at half
-Audio player set at 15%(Still pretty loud IMO)
Screen off battery:
(fell asleep for 4 hours with it on)
After 4 hours of continuous usage battery drops to around 30-35%
Occasional screen on/off (checking mail, time, etc) battery:
For about 3 hours, dropped down to 40-45%
Screen on Battery:
Phone sometimes gets pretty warm, but battery drops pretty fast. I left it on for IM with continuous usage. After 1 to 1 1/2 hours, it dropped to 60-65%
Hope these give u a rough idea on the battery life!
I really dont know why so many kaiser people are having problems. I use a couple different BT stereo headsets (rockr s9s and logitech ones also) and have never had any skipping problems. Infact I can set my phone down and walk 30 feet away without any drops or skips.
I have an ipod also thats been sitting in my desk drawer for months unused. I use Core player on my tilt and once you adjust the equalizer in it, the sound is very good. I have zero problems with battery life. I listen most the time for 5 to 7 hours straight at work and still have 40-50% of the battery left. I charge my phone nightly so it doesnt matter much to me.
I have my phone on, 3g on and the screen off. I hate having a pocket full of gadgets, that was my main reason behind the tilt purchase. So far I have no problems letting my ipod collect dust in the drawer and its probaly never going to be used again.
So an Ipod has more storage, I cant even listen to all of my 4 gig microsd card in 3 days at work. If I want more songs, its a matter of minutes to reload it. I also have a set of portable bluetooth speakers (nokias). Another thing an ipod cant do.
The logitech mp3 bluetooth stereo headsets were pulled off the market awhile back because the headband would crack/break. You can scoop a new set up for 29 bucks on some deal sites even today. they are one of the sweetest sounding headsets for that price. A couple mods to the headband and they good forever.
Go ahead and get the phone, you wont reget it even as a mp3 player.
I listen via BT (Sony DS HBH970), using PocketPlayer 3.5, audio files stored on a 4 gb microSD.
- After 3/4 hours I still have between 50 and 60% battery life.
- On PP, my settings are to turn off the screen at 1 minute.
- I do not have 3G in my area, and I do not keep Data on at all.
I do have an occasional skip, and I can't walk too far away from my phone before it cuts out.
Thanks for all your info guys. I've just ordered the USB to 3.5mm adapter so I can use my Sony headphones, and see how it all works out. It's gotta be worth a try!!

Well I guess it's time I try this .... but that leads me to another question: can I have your iPod?
Doubt he'll send u the ipod, but I can send you the most compact 60 gigabyte Archos AV560 media player you'll ever see. Just a mere 6mm thick. It's fully funtional apart from the fact it won't turn on....

This echoes my experience, as well. Using coreplayer, with equalizer, it sounds great. Turn the screen off while listening and it will run a very long time. I listened to mine on a 3 hour flight this week and the battery dropped by 20% during that time. Not TO 20%, dropped by 20%. (From 98% to 78%).
I used to take my Dell Axim, A bluetooth GPS, my Ipod Nano, and my cellphone on every trip. Now, I take just the Tilt. It's the first smartphone I've owned that was complete enough to leave everything else behind.

Same here, all I carry on the plane now is my TyTnII and Promate PM-2600's (absolutely no ticks or skipping with these!) and I have a WLHDD2.5 100Gig wireless hardrive in my case for tons of extra AV and business files.
I find I can get around 5-6 hours continous play when in flight mode and still have 50% battery left. If I connect my 'power monkey' portable charger I can easily double that.
Ok guys\gals, I have a question that I haven’t seem to find. Right now I’m using CM7 stable on my Nook emmc drive and it works great (Special thanks to all Devs in the Android world that make all is possible). Me and the family are going on vacation at the end of next month and I’m little concerned about battery life on a 5 hour plane ride with my Nook. I know of the sleep bug that CM has and everyone has been working on it but right now I get about day use out of it with normal to heavy use. This is fine because I’m always somewhere I can plug into if the power starts to get low, but now have a little concern since won’t have power. I have successfully converted a few movies using Handbrake and would love to use my nook as entertainment\movies for me and the family while in the Air. So in my testing I haven’t been able to get through a few 2 hours or so movies without the power draining down fast.
Ok with all that being said, it’s my understanding is that the stock ROM with root (Nooter 3.0) works great with Video and has good battery life. Would it be idea for me to just restore to a stock rooted Rom, then create a CM7 SD-Card? The cm7 card would be for my use only till we great back from Seattle. Mainly I’m just trying to keep the kiddos happy since they have never been on a plane before LOL. They LOVE all what my little Nook can do and love watching movies on the bigger 7 in screen (Transformers is Awesome on the Nook by the way). Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks Guys\Gals…
Derek.
Yes, what you propose will work.
I actually have a dualboot on my NC with CM7 as a primary boot; and the stock (rooted) on the secondary partition. (you can follow the dualboot thread in the developer section).
However, while you are actually USING the NC, the battery life shouldn't be terribly different between CM7 and stock. The biggest difference in battery life is while in "suspend" mode, because CM7 doesn't go into as deep of a sleep mode as when in suspend while in stock; so if you are willing to actually power down the NC, rather than suspend, you shouldn't experience any additional power drain while on CM7.
If you still have significantly more power drain on CM7, it is probably because you are overclocking. I have found that shutting wifi off when not being used, being conservative in the screen brightness, and adjust the the processor tweak in the cyanogen settings to "conservative" will help with battery.
All of that being said, I hope to get an external USB battery the next time I need to fly ....
My Nook, running CM7 Stable with screen brightness at 100% and wifi off, uses about 18% of its battery life for every one hour of full-screen video that I watch (.avi files, Rockplayer, mostly). The times that I've flown with it (only once since installing CM7) I usually watch an hour or two of video with internal battery then plug in one of those Duracell rechargeable batteries that you use with a USB cable to power portable devices. Using the rechargeable with a Nook-specific cable (in case that helps) my battery drain per hour of video drops to 10%. On night flights both rates improve somewhat due to much lower brightness levels. Plus, if the Nook is plugged in but inactive (powered on or off) it'll ADD charge 5-10% per hour. One charged 750MAH battery (half the size of a deck of cards) and I'm good for at least 8 hours of heavy use (could go longer, that's the most I've needed).
As jasoraso mentioned, you're really not going to get much better life while using it, if you switch to Stock. Cm7's battery usage is only when usage is suspended as it can't go as deep into sleep as the stock os can.
So even if you move back to stock, you're not going to get better life while watching videos. Your best option would be as both posters before me mentioned, an external charger.
Has anyone ever used the Galaxy S as a media player only (turn 3G/GSM off completely). Any idea what the battery life is like? I never tested this out with my captivate when I had it and now I'm looking for a new media player to replace my POS ipod touch
I'm looking to get at least ~30 hours of audio playback, but the more the merrier
Not sure if this is a good example but have been doing some travel between Singapore and Ohio (USA). Total travel time to my destination is about 27 hours and basically keep my Galaxy S I9000 on airplane mode.
My main usage is for music and playing TV shows. If I play music, some soduku, and check the time and messages between stopovers, I can probably get through the 27 hours with about 5% left. If I play TV shows, then I won't make through the flight (maybe 12 approx). I make sure I carry a spare battery. Something to also be aware of, is that on my I9000, you cannot play any video or music less than 15% battery power (not sure if this is Android specific). The last 15% can seem to last a lot longer which is a shame.
BTW, I had a Gb iPod nano on a previous trip. If I had not lost it on the flight, then I would prefer using that mainly because of the size and battery life. I have added a 32 Gb micro sd card to my Galaxy so I have all my music which helps, but am always concerned about battery life. Again, not sure if this helps or is a good example.

Is it the default player that doesn't let you play with less than 15% battery life?
Good information though Thanks
I use the default samsung player but will try others later on.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
Buff.. I've tried with the MIUI music player on Froyo and the same issue, no more than 27 hours of life
Bullsh***!!
Why on the hell i9000 eats so battery?

Is this with the cellular radio off? Is that 27 hours of continuous battery life? What ROM/kernel are you running?
I also posted this on the "htcone" subreddit:
I'm currently using CM 11, which is not yet stable on HTC One M7 GSM (currently on "snapshot"), and the battery life just kills me, so inefficient. I have an external 16,800 mAh battery and it does a good job eating through that too. 20% from that will give me 30% on the phone if the phone isn't powered all the way off -- that seems like a lot of usage (even if that external battery is used and only half that capacity now). I take measures to help my battery like auto brightness, turn off mobile data or wifi depending on what I'm using, or both to really save, I'm usually on silent, no bluetooth ever, location services always fully off unless I'm driving (rarely) etc. Just being in my pocket with a couple of hours or so total streaming music over LTE during the day the thing is under 20% after around 8-10 hours. A few days ago just a couple hours of music streaming (some downloaded some mobile data, not sure how much of each but still; this was not "screen on" time either) and an hour of web browsing ate 70% of it. It was 100% when I unplugged it around 6:30am and shy of 30% around 11am -- jeez!
I have been starting to think my battery is just worn out, I mean the phone is 2 years old (contract ends a week from tomorrow; it really is). But, what if it's the non-stable CM 11? Maybe a different ROM would help? I don't remember it being like this back on the stock ROM but it's been a while since then, and I remember being kinda frustrated with battery life every since I switched but I never got around to messing with this until now when I am even more irritated. I'm due for an upgrade, but squeezing some more life so I can wait another couple of months to see what unfolds (or change my mind entirely) would be great.
Can someone suggest some more efficient ROMs? I could handle Sense but I prefer AOSP -- whatever gets me more juice though. Or feel free to suggest other possible problems/solutions as well. In my power options in settings where it shows power usage, screen is always at the top with around 30%, so nothing jumps out there either. Thanks for any and all time!

I get the best battery life from Android 4.3 Sense 5.5
InsertCoin HTC ONE v8.1.3 >> http://insertcoin-roms.org/category/devices/one_m7/one_sense5/
It's also not real bad on AT&T Stock 5.12.502.2
I unplug the phone at 6AM and take it to work, normal use txt a few calls some web and emails and I have around 50% battery left when I get home at 3:30. On heavy use days I have about 30% when I get home. I should note my phone is also going on 20 months old.
Well I finally ditched webos (really did not want to but HP ended it) and installed cm11 jcsullins version with that toolbox. Everything works kind of OK (I hate that the lower buttons for back/home are right at the space bar) but battery life is just awful. I used to dual boot and then bought the movie player in webos and removed android due to android being a huge battery hog. I am back without a dual boot, erased everything, flashed a6, the whole works and am forcing myself to use android.
After all that, does anyone have any tips to make the battery last longer? I used to sit on the porch for hours, smoking cigars and watching movies/TV shows in webos and still have battery left but with android I am lucky to get 6 hours. My galaxy s4 always seemed like a battery hog too so I did expect it a little but would like some tips to get a good 8 hours or more watching shows. I am using bsplayer free right now as I can stream some stuff from my Nas if the WiFi behaves but mostly bi copy to the touchpad and watch or I am looking at getting a otg flash drive (Sandisk work on cm11 on the touchpad?).
Any help is appreciated.
Just to get it off my chest....wheel of fortune crashes like there is no tomorrow lol sheesh and a huge battery drain too!
It's the cigars.
Touchpads HATE cigars.
