HELP!
Hey guys! Here's my story, I was trying to flash the latest update (Oxygen OS 4.1.6) on my 3T using Flashfire. I've done this before with the previous updates with no problems and usually do a backup straight to my phone. This time, i tried this adb method. Log story short, the update won't get past the boot animation and heats up like mad! So I tried to restore the backup.ab file (adb restore backup.ab) but now nothing happens! It sends me back to the 'Select Package to Restore' menu but there are no more backups on the phone, I only have the backup file on the PC (10gb so it's fine)! PLEASE HELP
Facing the same problem, might have to reboot my phone and PC and disable Anti-virus

A while earlier I was trying to enable tethering on my at&t N6 by editing the build.prop and after the reboot it's stuck in a boot loop. I don't imagine that this is important but it doesn't get to the dots animation; just white Google and the unlock at the bottom. I am still able to get into fastboot and recovery (stock one). I have a backup of the correct build.prop in the /system file named build.prop.back , so I'm hoping that there's a way to revert to that without needing to wipe my device again, but I'm not sure.
I found this thread, however my computer isn't recognizing the device when it's in recovery mode. I have the fastboot drivers installed (needed to root), so that may be why but, again, I'm not sure. the adb devices command shows that there is no device, I imagine because the driver is not installed.
any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance.
Try the ADB & Fastboot installer from this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979

Unfortunately that didn't fix the problem.
Do you know if the fastboot driver and recovery driver would be different? As far as I can tell from my research, I think they're the same, but I could be wrong. Hopefully that's the problem and you can direct me towards the correct driver.
If I select "show hidden devices" in the device manager, it shows the phone as ADB Interface, and I tried undating the driver for that but it said it was already up to date. not sure what to do from here.
Thanks for your help.
Install working drivers if you can. This is important on so many levels. If they are installed correctly you type ADB devices, you should see your device. If you do type adb reboot bootloader, it should reboot to bootloader. Type fastboot devices, you should see same device name. Pat self on back.
Once that is all good I'd install the latest TWRP img file for your whale, straight off TWRP website (do you know how to do this? fastboot flash recovery recovery/name.img) . Once you do that go to your new recovery by pushing vol-down twice then your power button, inside TWRP you mount system and go into the file manager inside TWRP and swap/rename build.prop files. At this point, please make a backup inside TWRP. This backup will be on your internal memory, also save a copy to your computer in case you accidentally reformat your internal memory like every noob that uses toolkits. Having a backup is very important when you are screwing around with your phone. Reboot and profit.

I though I had the working drivers... Whenever I boot into fastboot/ bootloader, I can do fastboot devices and the phone shows up, but for whatever reason adb devices returns an empty list everywhere. It's empty in fastboot and recovery and while the phone is stuck in it's bootloop...
I'm fairly confident I can flash TWRP without any problems. I had an old galxy tab 2 that i flashed cyanogen onto a while ago, however i used clockwork for that recovery. I don't imagine it would be too much different though.
edit: also might be worth noting that I'm using a windows 8.1 computer for this. not sure if it matters or not, but it might be useful

You are ok w/ your problem because you can get to fastboot screen. Don'y worry about adb drivers for now. Do what I said in my earlier post in the 2nd paragraph, start w/ installing TWRP img then do the rest and it will work for you. Win 8.1 seems to have its difficulties but we'll worry about that later after you get TWRP installled.

OK. twrp is making a backup as I type. is this backup the same thing as a nandroid backup? i hadnt heard of them before I decided to root.
It should boot properly now. I'll update when it's done.
Edit: IT BOOTS! thank you so much.
Edit 2: So I'm not really sure why it works now but adb recognizes it when its in twrp... odd. I tried to reinstall the drivers with the most recent version i could find, but it didn't look like it actually updated anything. maybe stock recovery was just broken? I'm not sure...

Cool glad it's working. Yes backup=nandroid
It's cool now I've also noticed the computer recognizes phone in TWRP. You can drag and drop files onto the phone while it's in TWRP not just booted in android, couldn't do that before unless I'm wrong which is often. This is really cool as I always forget a file or two or its location on SD card.
After years fo relying on the XDA community, I thought I'd give something back. I've been for a few days now trying to get the phone properly rooted, however being a bit cautious due to completely screwing up my last phone, was being very careful.
Obviously - This guide carries all the T&Cs you'd expect... will void your warranty, could brick your phone, could fry all electronic devices within a 50 meter radius and such... USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Also, credit goes to the people for their hard work in making this possible. I'm only responsible for writing this post.
I'm not sure if you could have gotten away with not doing any of the steps below, but it's this sequence that I followed.. so feel free to play about.
To start off, you need the following
Ingredients
HiSuite software. I used what came with the device. If you put it in HiSuite mode, you should get a folder mounted that contains this software.
USB developer mode needs to be enabled (follow HiSuite's guide as even IT needs debugging mode enabled).
ADB - I used the latest version of Minimal ADB and Fastboot
Download TWRP from here
P7 Easy Update and Adjust from here
King Root from here (I've tried the lot and is the only one I found that actually worked).
Super SU from here. Put it on your phone storage for later.
Preparation
Install ADB, HiSuite and King Root.
Connect the phone to the pc via the USB, turning on PC Suite (HiSuite) mode and USB Debugging enabled. HiSuite should automatically load.. close it
Run King Root and start the rooting process. This should cause your phone to reboot a few times. now, following the application - towards the end of the process it says something about installing a recovery, but (at least on mine) didn't seem to install correctly. Never mind though - phone will still boot as normal, and we'll take care of the recovery next
place the Easy update and adjust excecutable in the folder where you installed ADB and run it (make sure phone is in pc Suite mode with USB debugging again and close the HiSuite app if it pops up on your PC). Note that in the ADB folder you will find a new /recovery/ folder, as well as a stock recovery image. Place the TWRP recovery image we downloaded earlier in this folder as well.
From within the Easy update, select [3] - Delete set_immutable.list / Full root.
After that Select [2] - Flash Recovery (Stock or custom)
Select the TWRP recovery. This will reboot your phone and flash the recovery image, loading back up as normal.
Go back to the Easy update app and select to reboot into recovery. If you attempted this before the last step (7), you'd just see two boot cycles, back into the normal boot up.
flash the Super SU zip and reboot
the next time you boot up, you will get a notification that king user needs something... you need to disable (or uninstall via titanium backup).
And that's it! You have root!
Hi there, just out of curiosity, do you think this method will work for b135?

Wrong thread guys soz.
TWRP recovery version?
Hi,
Will I have to download TWRP version compatible with EMUI 3.1 (which is mine case) or I can use TWRP 2.8.1.0 link that is in your post?
Thank you in advance!
I have a relatively new Nexus 6. The last phone that I rooted was the old HTC Hero, and things have changed! I had unlocked the bootloader and rooted the phone under 5.1.1 and when I flashed Marshmallow 6.0 yesterday I lost root.
So I decided that I would try to root the phone again. I had problems with the drivers... my PC would recognize the phone when it was powered up normally but as soon as I booted into fastboot I couldn't get ADB to find it.
Then I went to this link: http://www.theandroidsoul.com/marshmallow-root-for-nexus-5-6-7-9-and-player-by-chainfire-84862/
got my fastboot and adb set up and working, followed his instructions to get root, flashed the twrp image, and flashed the SuperSU file. Everything seemed to work properly. Made a complete backup using twerp and transferred it to my PC via USB.
After all this a tap on Reboot System was supposed to restart the phone. Didn't happen.
I'm stuck in a fastboot recovery loop. Whenever I power down and try to turn the phone on I come back to the fastboot screen. When I elect to go into "recovery" it opens the twrp screen on my phone which asks for my pin and then I have the twrp screen with the regular options.
This is new to me... I don't know if access to the twrp screen and its commands is a help or not, but I do realize that the adb and fastboot on my PC is necessary for about anything I need to do and it seems to be working. I believe that I've described my situation accurately...
Any help appreciated!

how about this, adb NEVER EVER works in fastboot mode. that is reserved exclusively for fastboot. you have to use fastboot to flash a recovery, then the recovery to flash supersu.
---------- Post added at 04:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:48 PM ----------
now it also seems as you have to fastboot flash a factory image as well.

I asked for help before searching thoroughly enough! I figured out that I needed to download another ROM, transfer it into the phone's storage, and install using TWRP. I really didn't understand the capabilities of this fabulous application and had simply flashed it because the thread instructed me to.
Sorry. I wouldn't post here unless I was absolutely desperate.
This started when I was getting an error message when trying to make a data backup with TWRP. So I tried to follow a suggestion online to repair my data partition with the TWRP format tool. However, it stalled so I forcibly rebooted my phone.
Now my phone can't boot into the OS and only gets stuck on the TWRP splash screen. I can use 'adb shell' from my PC when I'm on TWRP but I'm not able to see my data files with the 'ls' command.
I can boot into the fastboot screen on my phone, but I'm not able to connect from my PC. So I'm not sure how I can flash TWRP.
I've tried to use the following guide with no success. I keep getting an error message about "Sahara Communication Failed."

Thanks for reading.
The guide I linked miraculously worked after I tried again. I just had to delete all traces of the old 3T drivers from my PC and reboot. Sorry for making a thread.
Hello everyone, it's my first time writing here, but I’ve tried everything, searched everywhere, and am desperate for help.
I screwed up big time while trying to flash a custom rom on my nem-l21, as I successfully did before with my xiaomi... So what I did:
I managed to unlock bootloader with dc unlocker. Then I got stucked flashing twrp with adb tools. Everything was looking to be fine, no error messages, “flashing successful”… But, I was never able to boot into flashed twrp. Always got stuck on “your phone has been unlocked blah blah. Your device is booting.” It never booted, not in twrp, nor in stock recovery. I tried different versions of twrp from different sources, always same result (flashing successful, booting into recovery not). Booting into the system was fine. And then I made that horrible mistake. Oh, how I wish I didn’t!!
I read on some website, that you are supposed to flash the twrp as boot.img, not as recovery.img. Seemed illogical and stupid to me, but in the end I tried it. Of course, this just bricked my phone, with no possibility to boot. After hours of googling, installing, trying and crying, I managed in the end to flash back stock boot.img. But at that time, I didn’t know my build number (b359), and I flashed boot.img b351. So now I have a phone which boots into the system b359 with boot.img b351, but with lot of errors.
- developer options, security options, display and factory reset option doesn’t work and just crashes. Therefore I am not able to flash the correct boot.img b359 or anything else at all from pc, no way to enable usb debugging and oem unlocking. Adb devices → nothing. I am able to use fastboot (fastboot devices sees the phone), but when try to flash something, I get error “command not allowed”. Also I can’t enable unknown sources installation, which bothers me a lot. And I can’t make factory reset to restore the crashing settings. Also I can’t change display timeout, and original 30 secs is super annoying.
- I am not able to uninstall even apps installed by me, always just restarts system UI and app stays.
What I tried so far:
- flashing correct boot.img from pc, not working because of dev options crashing
- go into recovery, but stock one is overwritten with unfunctioning twrp, always just get stuck on “your phone was unlocked blah blah… your device is booting now”, but it never does, have to hard reboot
- go into huawei erecovery, which is working, but when I try to resolve problem from there, always ends up with errors and crashes
- connect to pc and use HiSuite, system recovery tool here always says “no problem detected”
- updating to b361 through system update settings, always crashes on 5% and sends phone into “your phone was unlocked blah blah… your device is booting now” error
- downloading the proper b359 as and update.app file, put it in dload internal storage → same error during update, put it in dload sdcard → same error, no matter which way I use to start the update
- boot into twrp or stock recovery.img through fastboot without actually flashing it, anyway error “command not allowed”
- do factory reset or update through dial codes (i.e. *#*#123456#*#* …), nothing worked
My pc is windows 10, all drivers up to date. Using powershell as an admin. Am an idiot for not making backup of the phone before I started...
So, now I have more or less functioning phone, but I can’t uninstall any apps at all, can’t install from unknown sources, can’t do nothing from pc, can’t make any update, and lot of important settings keep crashing.
I can use the phone like this, but if somebody could think about some solution for this ****ed up situation I got myself into, I would be grateful to him/her for the rest of my life.
Sorry for a long post.
Thank you in advance and have a nice day
I think using Hisuit will help. Enter Fastboot and connect ur phone to ur computer and use system recovery toll
