Having done a lot of reading recently on audio equipment, I have noticed that a lot of people use a line-out dock on their iPhone's to bypass the phones internal amplifier and they use an external amplifier for a cleaner audio signal.
Is there such a cable for the HD2? I have myself a nice little portable amp, the Fiio E5, and I'd like to see how it does independently of the HD2's internal music making circuitry as I might step up to a Fiio E7 which would be useful for my PC/Laptop too.
Done a little digging. Seems like the HD2 is not capable of outputting audio via the USB port.
Is this correct?
I've seen this question a few times over the past year, and all of the answers come up the same, the HD2 is not capable of outputting audio via the USB port sadly
Has anyone who has the nexus 7 already tried a regular usb dac yet? I'd really like to get a fiio e7 and try it out but not waste the money if it doesn't work. I can also maintain this thread with a list of working dacs if we can figure out if any work.

I am also very Interested In this. I will be getting a tube magic D1 USB DAC and I will see if it works. I am unsure if USB DACS will work but now that Jelly Bean supports USB audio well have to wait and see. I have not gotten my N7 yet but once I do I will be eager to see whether this will work or not.

Don't get your hopes up, as early reports are they won't. Of course, unless the hardware will simply not support it, it's only a matter of time until a custom solution becomes available.
I'm sure we will eventually get working DACs, just looking for any reports that it's working on any existing DACs.

Does not work with my E7 or E17 because Google have not used a standard USB audio implementation. I don't think it will work with any USB DACs unless they are made specifically for it. Disappointing since my Archos G9 and S3 do both work with standard USB DACs.
This was my setup:
A USB OTG cable to a USB to Audio adapter.
It didn't work, and all I got was a loud buzz
I included pictures.
when I get my n7, I'm gonna try my Logitech G330 dongle.
Any news about USB dac?

i have an Ibasso d2 dac on the way next week, cant wait to try out with my nexus 7, would you mind uploading a copy of your altered asound.conf file? I know its a simple copy and paste into it.. but i messed up my nexus last week doing the same for the front camera 720p profile recording and dont want the same to happen again.. although i've since taken plenty of backups etc!
Cheers,
Mick

"eXtream Software Development has managed to get USB audio recording working on Android 3.1 or higher devices! By writing a custom USB audio driver from scratch, both USB audio playback and recording will be possible for a lot of USB audio standard compliant devices.
The driver will completely bypass Android including Android's incapable audio system. The advantages of USB audio and our driver are plenty:
* Finally you will have decent connectivity to your Android device: connect mics with XLR, line inputs, instrument levels inputs, depending on your USB device
* Playback and record in 16 or 24 bit
* Lower, but more important, predictable latency that can fully and automatically be compensated for
* Zero-latency monitoring on the devices that support it
* Control hardware level input gain on the devices that support it
* Multitrack recording capability
The USB audio recorder will be available as a stand-alone app and the USB audio driver will be available as an in-app purchase in our flagship multitrack audio sequencer, Audio Evolution Mobile. Currently, only USB audio spec 1.0 is supported, but this will be solved in a subsequent release. Both USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 devices will be supported however.
Requirements will be an Android 3.1 or higher device and the device must support USB 'host' mode. Most recent devices have 'host' mode luckily. If your device has a micro-USB port, you can connect to full-size USB using a so-called USB OTG cable. No rooting of your device is required.
Testers wanted:
If you are interested in a pre-release alpha version and meet the following requirements, please send an email to info AT audio-evolution.com:
You have one or more Android devices that meet the requirements
You have one or more USB audio devices
You are fluent in English writing
You usually answer to emails within 2 days"

Is any DAC working with the 4.2.1 update on the Nexus 7 WITHOUT root or custom kernel? Maybe I will root it but I don't want to flash the kernel....
Any experience?

But the device has Built in Ethernet (100mb), Type A USB 3.0 Port and Type C USB (Phone charging).
Having all the ports built in means we don't need to buy adapters / otg cables.
This is the first review I have seen:
Its big and ugly, and what the friggin 1992 is with that remote control? Looks like the USB-C port is only a 2.0, which is pointless. The official specs say it has a separate barrel jack for power -- not the USB-C port.
Also note that "OTG" doesn't apply to USB-C. The concept of "OTG" refers to the BACKWARDS use of a socket meant for a peripheral (mini- or micro-A), but USB-C is a genuine dual-purpose socket.
To be honest, the ability to plug stuff into it really isn't that critically important. I do see lots of people worried about adding USB storage to it, but that seems to be a pretty weak purpose since being a network connected device, you are free to add unlimited storage via the network, which is much more useful since that would be accessible to ALL of your equipment and not just the one its plugged directly into. For the most part, the USB port is good for an ethernet adapter, and google sells a nice one with a power adapter. The only other useful peripheral I can think of is maybe a video camera, but only if you need to use your TV for video conferencing, which yes, is a useful purpose.
But.... Nokia? Isnt that just one of the old dead names from the last century like "blackberry" that is now run by some unpronouncable arm of the people's republic of china? Consequently, I wouldn't trust a box with that name on it any more than pick-a-random-tv-box-from-aliexpress.
The only thing nice I see, is that its apparently got the "old" android tv launcher, and not the "wtf were they thinking?" one.
You are correct about the type-C port.... its just for charging only !
Ok, I've ordered two USB-C to 3,5mm Jack adapters from Amazon and so far, both of them failed to function. First one was a UGreen which just wasn't up to spec, my bad.
The second Ugreen I bought (which specifically mentions the S21 Ultra) plugs in, but all it does is create a notification about charging the device. No audio output whatsoever.
So guys, help me out. Which USB-C to 3,5mm Jack actually works with the S21 Ultra?
I bought this one off Amazon, works fine!
UsbC to jack
Oh wow, I found out a way to make it work.
1. Open Samsung Members app
2. Support
3. Interactive support
4. USB devices
5. Choose headphones
6. Plug it in.
7. It will prompt for a reboot.
8. Disconnect the dongle
9. Plug it in again
10. Succes!
I bought this dongle from Amazon and it worked just by plugging it in. I did very little research before I bought it. Don't know if it made any difference, but I concentrated on finding one with the most recent Realtek DAC chip available. This one has the 32bit/384KHz Realtek ALC4050 DAC. Most of the other dongles I found with Realtek chips had the ALC4042 DAC. So, my only criteria was that the 050 was newer than the 042. I'm in the market for a second dongle, so if someone has a better criteria or dongle to recommend, I will consider it for my second dongle purchase. I've also been looking for an "adapter" rather than a "dongle" that I can keep connected to my headphone jack, but I have not found one. I'm looking for something that "looks like" this mic adapter.
I still use the dongle from google have multiple from my old pixel devices and I bought one separately,
The Samsung one does...
Anyone have issues with there s20fe usb c to 3.5mm
headphone adapters? Everything i have had time to research said turn developer mode on and make sure disable usb audio routing is not selected. Ive done all this and im still confused is this something samsung has prevented in attempt for me to pay for bt headset?
You using the Samsung adapter?
Try toggling Developer options off.
Lol, the inconvenience of the dongle is enough motivation by itself to use bt
No im remote and i need to use the output to route my audio through an existing PA for a presentation tomorrow and this PA is analog and ancient as well. Ive already had to purchase this dongle and a 3.5mm to 1/4 cable for the sound technician.

If it's the Samsung dongle it has a built in DAC* and should work if the impedance is compatible with the preamp input.
Now it's getting to be a lot of if's.
I would test it first.
*To output in the analog realm from the phone you need to use a DAC interface. Raw output from the phone through the C port is in the digital realm.
yeah any dongle needs to have a DAC built into it and not all of them do. some phones have that inside, some don't like ours.
The Samsung adapter works well. I can confirm the UGREEN and SunnyLan 3.5mm+Charge adapters work as well.
