Is there root available for my P10 model? - Huawei P10 Questions & Answers

I have a P10 with the following info:
Model number: VTR-L29
Build Number: VTR-L29C185B113
With a variety of different models, its a bit confusing trying to find info applicable to a specific model.
Can anyone tell me if there is root available for my P10 and point me in the right direction to get started with it?
Thanks!

Try this worked for me

Thanks, I've been reading through the forums and did come across the TWRP thread. It seems that TWRP is still in beta and there are still some issues that need to be addressed.
Since there aren't many ROMS for the P10 at this stage, it's probably not worth the risk trying to flash software which is not ready yet (I would rather not risk bricking my P10). I think I'm going to wait a while (with eager anticipation) to see how things progress with TWRP for the P10 before I jump into it.

The root modifies the boot.img only and this file is the same for all VTR-L09 or L29 models. TWRP ist just in beta, yes. But for flashing the zip is this state enough. I haven't any issues since release.
The only two things you have to remember:
1. if you unlock your bootloader the phone will do a factory reset. All data on the internal storage will be lost. So do a backup.
2. OTAs aren't possible. If you want to root, update to newest version before you root. B113 is very old and there're newer version. In this process you can rebrand your device if you want so.
If you need any help, you can contact me. I did this a lot to my phone and never had any problems.

Stuck on NRD90M test-keys

I updated to beta Nougat using a non-official-beta method and am somehow stuck with NRD90M test keys as my build number. The rom works ok for the most part, the only thing which doesn't seem to work properly is Themes.
Would now like to know what the appropriate process is to go to the new and official stock Nougat for EVA-L19. Thanks community!
So was I and I posted about it here and got the right advice to roll back:
forum.xda-developers.com/p9/help/nougat-update-borked-p9-2-imeis-t3534530#post70475746
thank you zemblance! so it would appear that i would have to rollback to stock then only update to official nougat using the built-in updater huh?
Which recovery did u use ? I got that same problem when I flashed with 3.0.0.0 instead of 3.0.2.0
Edit: here's the one http://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/development/wip-twrp-support-t3372331/page13

not sure which TWRP i used but its fixed now. i did the rollback to lollipop. now on B190 but now Themes is being wonky and I have no magazine unlock. :/
Flash 136 again, there should be two folders hw and dt that need to be in the dload folder too.
If they aren't there you could try flashing the l09 136 first then the l19 one straight after.

So I managed to get myself into this bind as well back in January, but I just didn't have the stamina to fight it and I've been running that crap ever since. Now I thought it time to take care of it.
This is the scenario. I got an unlocked EVA-L09 with TWRP 3.0.2.0 running build NRD90M test-keys and I want to "fix it" and update it to the latest version.
What do I need to do and in what order. Like, do I need to unroot/restore the Huawei bootloader, do I need to rollback to Android 6 before starting over, etc..?
And I can as well ask if the Huawei builds are preferable or perhaps there's some other ROM/mod out there worth using instead? I was on CM for years before I got the P9, though such a ROM is of course unlikely to ever be made for the P9, maybe there's a good mod..?

You need to download and flash the appropriate hw data update zip for the ROM that you installed.
And if you check out this forum you will see there is both Lineage OS (aka CM) and CM13 ROMs for the P9 :good:
Peace.

Eh, yeah, that I know, but I'm not going to try to figure this out myself again as last time I did, I spent two days trying to get my phone to boot at all - and that's a first since I started messing with ROM's back in the HTC Hero days.
And I thought the undocumented SoC made "real" custom ROM's on P9 impossible - or did Huawei release the doc's?

Ok, so get the 2 files for the ROM you want, and flash update zip then hw data update zip next.
It worked in either TWRP or dload method for me. Of course, for dload method you need to unzip and flash each zip in turn, or TWRP can flash one after the other. Flashing will relock your bootloader...
Well, if you note my post count and alike, I'm not really a newbie here, I got 10 years experience messing about with custom Android ROM's and about the same experience of general Linux experience on top of that, so when I don't wanna do this without some trustworthy information on the workflow, etc, you should get there's good reason. So posting replies like -Oh, just flash something, it'll work out!, that looks a lot to me you just having been really lucky not getting into the situation I did.
So I will repost the question I posed and hopefully someone with that know how will reply.

Just to clarify....
I had an unlocked EVA-L09 with TWRP, running build NRD90M test-keys, and I wanted to fix it....
So, I downloaded update.zip and update_data_full_hw_eu.zip and flashed them one after the other using dload method. It worked. That was my workflow.
Just trying to help out, don't get shirty about it....or you can wait for someone who's been on the forum longer than me, or who has a higher post count than me. Btw, I've received help before from folks with very low post count and I know it's no indication or predictor of noob-ness.
Peace out...
*I* did the exact same thing and then spent the following 30 hours trying to get it to even boot.
And I really didn't want to be rude, but if I got that kinda post number, I'm not likely to ask for help with something like this unless I really needed it. As I said, I have a lot of experience of this stuff and I still messed up immensely trying this the first time, so I'm not even going to try before I have someone who really knows what *NOT* to do give me some hints on how to avoid getting into the same spot - because I'm not doing another 30h trying to save this phone if I mess up again, I'll just smash it and buy something else, like a used Nokia 3310, because it's just not worth the stress.

Any tool to root P8 lite 2017 ?

Hi there.
Does anyone has informations about rooting the new p8 lite 2017?
It comes with android nougat 7.0 and I can't find any TWRP, SuperSU ...
Thanks for your help.

P8 lite regular have different specs from 2017 version, if I were you I give a try in the Honor 6x section, because the CPU is the same maybe you could get some hints there.
Other devices with same CPU:
-Honor 8 lite
-Mate 9 lite
Thank you.
But I'm not courageous to test these tools - I don't want to brick it.
So, I unlocked the bootloader and now I need something like TWRP and (maybe) a modified SuperSU to get root.
If someone has any informations about, let me know.
Regards.
Well, it should work. In the worst case you could just reflash your old recovery with fastboot.
Could you tell us if it's worth it to buy or not please ? Bcz im thinking about having one but i dont know samsung a5 2017 is cool too and better in a lot of things
i think twrp from 6x would work on P8 lite 2017
then you on terminal put (for the safest case), echo SYSTEMLESS=true>>/data/.supersu
and you are done, it should work, on my Moto G 4G (XT1040) i do that to root on nougat
Use Magisk to root it

Trying is free, but try it.
Download and install magisk from store. It will try to install binaries. If you succeed you are done. If it fails try the other solutions gave by others.

As I said: I don't know for sure , which version works with the new 2017 p8lite.
(The fone isn't mine, so I take care and don't want to brick it.)
Edit: As reported in Android-hilfe, the TWRP of Honor 6x will NOT work.
I also tried a few recovery roms, none that worked. Still waiting for a working one!

Hmm I could try see if I could help u. Could u try the mate 9 lite or any twrp (if available for nougat) and se if it wors?
In this case it can be related to kernel or some other info.
Since these devices are very similar it should be easy to port twrp

None of the TWRP did work, as a user in another Forum reported.
I can't test by myself, because the fone isn't here anymore.
I tried the RevolutionRecovery for P9 Lite Nougat. Is not able to mount system.
I tried all day long to unlock the bootloader, creating a Huawei account and following step by step the procedure to can get an unlock code. But once I got it, trying to unlock by DOS prompt, it failed and remains locked. I think because this procedure is related to P8 Lite, and not to P8 Lite 2017. Currently it seems to be there's no way yet to can root the P8 Lite 2017, unfortunately for all possessors of it, like me
I have to correct my post above.
This TWRP istn´t able to mount data, not system...but this has been described in the RevolutionRecovery thread, nothing specific to the P8 Lite 2017.
So flashing SU doesn´t work, flashing magisk zip makes the phone reboot instantly.
@Joaquito29
Unlocking the bootloader worked pretty well for me and someone in another forum said, he was able to root the phone manually by pushing su and busybox binaries to bin and xbin.

Huawei P9 (EVA-L09) firmware finder problem

Hi, I've got problem with my huawei p9
I really wanted an update to a newer build, so i used firmware finder using app proxy to download it before it will show in system updater. Installation went fine but after all i noticed two things: gps is not working - it shows place where i was two weeks ago as my current location and apps from google play to repair this aren't working - and the second problem is my build number. Instead of EVA-L09C150B385 which this update supposed to bring, it is NRD90M test-keys
And my question is that: Is it possible to reverse the update? And if not is it possible to somehow easily flash stock rom to this phone. The device has stock recovery, locked bootloader and was never rooted (and if possible I would rather prefer to keep it in that state)
I've heard about some method using the sdcard but at the moment i don't have big enough at home, so is there any other way?
Previously I was using LG smartphone and it could easily be fixed using LG flash tool
Is there some kind of similar app for huawei?
I know that google isn't biting and that there were similar threads before, but neither one of them really answers my questions and most of them are more about devices with custom recovery or/and root
I would suggest following the debranding method with downgrading to old Android and then install newer version on top.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/how-to/guide-debranding-to-c432-updating-to-t3551523
You will need the bootloader unlock code.
Of course because of unlocking the bootloader, your device will be wiped so make sure you will have a backup of your data
As @edmun says above, I'd rebrand your phone and then update from there. You must get an SD dude, I can't do without mine.
Once rebranded, use the following tool (all instructions are there) to get to the latest version. I got stuck on NDR test keys at the weekend and used this tool to roll-back and update.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/development/rebrand-update-tool-hwota7-p9-eva-t3820849
You can always relock your bootloader and remove root once you've finished.
As far as I remember, if you will follow the "debranding" manual, at the end you will have bootloader locked.
The debranding method does not root the phone, so no need to "un-root" afterwards.
In my opinion, that is the easiest and cleanest way to restore the phone to a clean genuine software
What Newkeebrown suggested is to rebrand the phone to P9 China which will allow you to install Android 8.0 (Oreo).
Unfortunately, at this moment, I can't confirm whether it is a good idea as I am quite too busy to test this method (it would involve of course backup and restore which takes around half a day for me)
Kinda suggesting rebranding to L09C432 because there's more support on here for that version. But yes, definitely gives you the option to jump up to Oreo if you wish. I'm lucky, no backing up for me as all I need is my contacts, synced to Google. I always start fresh after flashing

I’m confused and overwhelmed. Please help me get back into my phone.

So, I have an Honor 5C (I’m in Europe, if that’s significant), I’ve been rooted for a while and today I wanted to install a custom ROM. After installing TWRP using the official app, (I tried it with fastboot, but no success) I downloaded the LineageOS 14.1 ROM and tried to install it. This failed, I got error 7 and started googling the cause. No success. Right now I’m just confused with all the different 5C models and apparently different EMUI versions. My questions:
1. How do I know what model I have? (NEM-L21, NEM-L22, NEM-L51 etc.)
2. What’s up with the EMUI versions? I know I had 4.1.2 and never got a notice saying I could update to 5.x, so how are people on those versions?
3. Same for the Android version, I was on marshmallow 6.0 but other people are on nougat?
4. I wiped everything and am unable to boot right now. What ROM must I download to boot again? And is it possible for this to be nougat, instead of marshmallow which I was previously on?
Thanks in advance, I’m very new to this scene and all the different models and versions are kind of overwhelming me
First of all, you shouldn't use the official twrp, because that once partially bricked my phone, and you should have used EliteTWRP for installing the roms, because it required you to back up before some partitions, that official twrp couldn't, also, to answer your first question, you find it out in your phone's settings app, in the About Phone section, but since you didnt look at that before you flashed and deleted everything, I don't know how to figure it out without the settings app, also diffirent region phones get diffirent updates, my dad's honor 6 never got an update out of 4.4.2, but some phones had access to newer versions(not by flashing custom roms), also you should download some dload things i dont remember how to do it, never done that myself, but for that I'm pretty sure you need to know if you're using NEM-L21, NEM-L22, NEM-L51 or something like that

Firmware update error

I'm currently running ALP-L29 9.0.0.109(C185E2R1P8log) and i'm trying to install ALP-L29 9.0.0.159(C185E2R1P12) though system upgrade option, but when i'm trying to upgrade it shows system update error message and the upgrade does not executes.
Do i need to roll back to 8.0 version first? This beta that i have now installed will detect someday the new version and upgrade automatically ? the device is already unlocked.
Please advice.

How did you manage to install android pie on your mate 10? I am still at 8.0.0.140 and no any update since 2months.

I'm not sure which method he used to update his phone, but you can use eRecovery method of FunkyHuawei if your phone is not unlocked with bootloader. I used it to update to 9.0.0.108 (mine is C636), going to update to 9.0.0.159 tonighf. Check the attached image, it shows the available Pie firmwares as mentioned.

Since Huawei stopped the bootloader unlocking service, and I got my phone recently, the method of unlocking the bootloader is troublesome and kind of costly, so I decided not to do anything with it. With FunkyHuawei's eRecovery method, you can update your phone to any firmwares available on their site even with a locked bootloaded. It is quite easy, you should take a look at it. If you decided to go with them, I'd recommend you to back up your data (HiSuite might not be able to restore app data) before updating. I had to factory reset the phone after the update because the phone might have some glitches. Really, I'd recommend this method, it does cost you $18 but it gets the job done. You can PM me if you have any further question.

I had an error while trying to update to 159 via eRecovery method. The computer does not recognize the USB connection. Couldn't fix it myself so I contacted FunkyHuawei and they advised me to do HiSuite method and it worked. I thought I had to downgrade to Oreo first but I just left the 159 on and it could update. May be that could be your solution too.
Thank you all, i have unlocked, rebrand and install Pie my device using funkyhuawei services but since i ran out of credits i want to be sure that if i renew just 1 credit to download the new firmware i can do the upgrade directly from my pie old build to the new one without issues instead of purchase more credits if i have to execute more tasks.

When is mate 10 (Alp-l29, c185) receiving emui 9 in the middle east?
Hi I am desperate to receive emui 9.0 after seeing many sites claiming the beta for middle east varients.
I joined the beta program few months ago but misteriously got kicked out or I must say the "my projects" tab was empty a week ago. I would like to know when actually huawei will roll out and OTA update for the mate 10, thankyou

Regarding to OTA, FH told me that we might be able to receive (this build is a legit build from Huawei anyway), but we have to wait and see. I notice that Huawei sends out update at different times to different locations for the same model, hate it. Mate 10 pro is on build 161, but Mate 10 is on build 159, so I guess we have to check FH once in a while together with System Updater. Actually, FH released official Pie updates before Huawei officially announced Pie update schedule, kinda strange though, many have a conspiracy theory on the relationship between FH and Huawei
I think the ROMs provided by FH are stock ROM, that is why we can update the phone through Huawei methods and not third-party ones. Let me guess, you did a factory reset after upgarding to Pie? I had this problem with beta version, and it is an issue with Pie builds, according to FH. If you want to downgrade to Oreo or another build, you have to do it via a specific HiSuite version, to me this way is so much faster than eRecovery. I can provide you the software, but I'd suggest you to contact to FH first, they told me that the reason they don't publish this method is because not every one's issue has a same cause. This is a last resort.
Hope this'd be helpful.

I can provide you the software, but I'd suggest you to contact to FH first, they told me that the reason they don't publish this method is because not every one's issue has a same cause. This is a last resort.
Hope this'd be helpful.

Dear,
They also told me that they didn't stop OTA updates, it's upto huawei to send OTA updates, I hope so it will be like this,
Yes I did factory reset after installing the Pie on my phone, because it was little slow and glitches. No ERecovery is not working to go back to Stock recovery. Can you please tell me that method to try it. Which version you are talking about for HiSuite. I want to go back to the Stock ROM and to receive updates via Huawei OTA. Its very strange to me, that updates are available in the market for the phone, and Huawei not sending to their phones, and also someone like(FW) able to update the phone, something is fishy. May huawei becomes more professional in doing promises.. and satisfy their customers more.

Yes, I also got glitches and many time couldn't turn on the screen, that is why I had to do it. I uploaded the HiSuite version here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1NYsPYS6aB1BHaf1p5F_mJJJQMOSc0lql/view?usp=drivesdk
Uninstall your current HiSuite, install this version and follow the same steps (DNS) with FH but without eRecovery.
Not so sure about the stock recovery as you mentioned, but may be what you need is to downgrade to Oreo. I checked on FH and they have a new firmware for downgrade purpose, I don't know what is the difference though. Good luck.
Just received a patch for build 159 from Huawei, so I think OTA works normal on FH's roms.
Finally, ALP-L29 9.0.0.159 officially launched here in Saudi Arabia, and I was not satisfied with the FunkyHuawei software. So decided to downgrade my phone to Android Oreo again, and then update officially.
