your request is a little confusing. not sure exactly what you want to do, but here goes. i dont know how to post links so... Google t3083041 xda. you should come to a search result for a post by muniz ri for how to upgrade the 870 a and keep root. near the bottom of the post in notes it has links to go back to ne4 stock if you run into trouble. there is also a link there for towelroot to root it then. you would use odin to go back to ne4.

I ended up using the guide you listed. I just ran towel root on ne4 then I flashed of3 with FF and then odin for the bootloader file. Also used triangle away, link2sd, nexapp sdfix, super su, tibu, package disabler pro

[Q] How can I Root after 2.3.6 update?

New Note owner here, but definitely not new to Android or Samsung devices, for that matter. I immediately updated to 2.3.6 (see attached) as soon as I got the device, but now realize I would like to root the device, get the note-specific (custom) version of CWM, etc.
I really am not interested in a custom rom, just want root. Can I flash a pre-rooted rom by loading from the MicroSD card?
I did look around, but I am finding conflicting info on the best root method after a 2.3.6 update which wasn't rooted previously and prior to. I see some posts about downgrading but is that safe?
Thanks, just looking for some solid advice.
-Rob
I just got my note today as well (LOVE IT!!!) I also updated immediately and the root+CWM method here worked perfectly.
Thank you!
That worked, thanks for steering me in the right direction. Much appreciated!

Were you already on stock KL7?
I tried dl'ing the KL7 package and running "not rooted yet", but it blocks the image write and just reboots.....
Any ideas?
Mark,
I think it is possible I have a different build. Mine shows KK9.
But, to answer your question, my unit was a German unit purchased from Amazon. It came out of the box with 2.3.5 and immediately wanted an update to 2.3.6 when I set it up. I went ahead and did the update.
Then, I realized I wanted to root. I followed the link from the first response in this thread and had no issues at all. The ZergRush exploit went off without a hitch on 2.3.6 - and after that I did install the slightly modified kernel to get the customized CWM for this Note, etc.
I hope that helps, let me know if you need further info.

Hi I think when it came from germany you are able to do one more update about OTA, because we are currently using KL7 it came after the KK9 update.
Just try to do the update OTA
But...
You appear to be correct on the update, I just did check and it looks like a 71MB firmware update is available.
But, should I do this OTA from KK9 to KL7? Will I lose root and CWM?
I hav answerwd u, sm other place b4 five min
Yes u will lose. I explined u how to update there
Yes, indeed you did. Thank you. I didn't intend for a cross-post, I just wanted to leave that here as well so it might help others. I agree it makes much more sense to use Mobile Odin Pro to flash the full ROM, and that is what I am going to try.

[Q] Firmware upgrade

OK, this is my second post on XDA, but I'm finding it a little more difficult to get to grips with the Note and its workings, coming from my HTC Desire.
I'm currently on Kernel version KKA, and have read Dr. Ketan's guide about how to root your device, which seems very straightforward. My phone is prompting me to download a new firmware, which I assume would make it more difficult to root, as it would have a newer kernel than the one I currently run, so I have held off for now.
My question is, if I root and want to apply the firmware update, I assume I can do this manually, and would obviously prefer to maintain root, rather than downloading over the air, which would remove my root. From what I've read, I assume I could do this with Mobile Odin Pro, but could I also apply a pre-rooted version of the new firmware, and if so, which is the firmware I should use?
Like many of you, I am waiting for the official ICS upgrade before I mess around too much with my device. Thanks for any advice you could give.

why would you wanna search for pre-rooted rom when u can keep rooted in all stock rom with just few easy steps???? Its very easy with CWM !
Yes exactly agree to priyanv
You have kka rootable ROM, just root n get cwm.
Then you can update any ROM, either with mobile odin or cwm
Just want to advise somthing, but b4 that just decide, which rom you want to update after rooting.

My note is lc1 kernel how to downgrade for root

Hey, i'v understand that lc1 kernel stock is unroot for now, how can i downgrade for rooting?
or should i just wait for someone to release root for lc1?
Thanks.
emmm next time use search button, it helps ^^ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331784
Thanks but look at this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1590954
root didnt worked for me so whats wrong
Try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535025
Easiest to get root IMHO.
After that, install Mobile Odin to flash custom kernel and you will get CWM.

Hi,
Used odin to flash a kernel (speedmod 2.8) then install super user from play and etc (mobile odin and titanium backup)
when you use odin you will get yellow triangle and the flash counter will grow but i is no a problem coz' ICS is just around the corner, so you can eventually reset flash counter in ICS
Hope I helped
Cheers
Have a look here too... Just flash using pc Odin.

It is a fair assumption that everything you need is in another thread..
If you have tried a method stated in another thread, then post in that thread if it failed... then your fix will be recorded for posterity and perhaps the thread OP changes the initial post to provide better/improved instructions for other users. This aspect is VERY important to the smooth running of the forum and the main reason why 50 individual threads on unroooting, the content of which are covered elsewhere, essentially render the search function useless.
if you just up and did something without guidance from another thread i suggest you go to square one and visit..

Best options to obtain 4.4?

My note 3 is currently on 4.3 and is stock but rooted. I would like to upgrade to a stock version of 4.4 with root and to keep root and without wiping out all of my apps if possible.
I looked through some sticky and through the dev forum but nothing seems to fit what i'm looking for. Is this possible?
Could I just unroot, upgrade to the latest version through at&t and use the towelroot method?

yes.. you basically have 2 choices.. either unroot and take the ota and then root with towelroot... or go to the general thread and look for carls thread for the 4 odin files.. you can just make it east and odin to nc2 and then root with towelroot... easy as that... but the odin will wipe your stuff of course.. so you might want to just do the unroot and update to keep. or get tibu and back it all up and odin.. up to you

I've tried unrooting but the OTA still won't take. I think I have too much stuff modified between wanam and all the frozen apps in titaniumbackup. Going to go the odin route.
Thanks.

Best seamless way to Root my STOCK 5.1.1 TMO Note 4?

I want to root my stock 5.1.1 TMO Note 4 and keep the stock ROM as is, without starting from scratch. I'm just looking to root the device and that's it. Can someone point in in the right direction for a nice quick of doing so? Thanks!
You will need ODIN for your PC. You will need a custom recovery (so that you can then flash to get root).
I just went through this, and using ODin and CFAutoroot works great. You do not need a custom recovery to run the Auto Root. Odin usually comes with the CFAuto Root ZIP file
I know that I did have an issue, the sticky post in this form, the first page has not been updated with the correct link to the current version of CF Auto root. I think that I found someone on page 96+ that had the correct version linked (I would link it here but I do not know what it is).
Run through that, and just do that step to install ROOT. The other features on that sticky do require the custom recovery to install other tweaks, but if you are just looking for root this is all you need. Just did it with two phones that I had just flashed with the current official ROM for the 910T.
Thanks

Yes, this was on 5.1.1, after doing a full re-install from the official T-Mobile 5.1.1 image, and then applying root so that I could de-bloat. I did then remove root when I was done so that I could use Android Pay (you can not use it while you are root'ed, several discussions other places on XDA about that).
So, flesh install of 5.1.1, then root with CF Auto Root, no problem. Just make sure that you get the most recent CF Auto root. The link on the first page of the sticky post is not the correct one. You will know it is wrong, in the ZIP file, they both contain ODIN, and the old one had ODin 3.07 and the newer one had 3.10.6.
Hope that helps...

Here is the link to CF-AutoRoot for the T-Mobile Note 4 (original SM910T). Please note that there is also the SM910T3, which is the newer hardware release, and that is different.

I just went to the Auto Root website and searched for 910T to find the download link. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the information :good:
