guys I have problem with my phone's screen, the upper part of the screen during portrait mode is no longer responding to the right spot. but the rest its ok...anyhelp?do I have to change my LCD? I even had it hard reset which gives me a bigger problem, a Align Screen menu pops out and I could not align it....anyhelp????
looks like you have defective digitizer screen, try to take apart and reseat the LCD connector. maybe it'll help.
last resort, change the digitizer screen.
yes, I think that's the same problem that i've been facing since last year :-|
any I dea how could that be happens ?
or is there any way to do it without bricking the device ?
welll....
I am looking at the possibility that it needs to be stripped down and cleaned! dirt could be causing the issue around the edges by applying pressure to the digitizer!!
does anyone know of any toolkits you can get to take this thing apart I am not too confident with my kitchen knife and chisel....
Probably on this forum somewhere...
(edit : I just did a bit of pushing down and hooking a piece of card around the edges of the screen and it seems to be working fine however this can be temporary...)
There are guides in this forum to taking an Alpine to pieces completely: I had to change my screen recently and it can easily be done before the backup battery has run out of juice.
If the digitiser part is behaving erratically you cna just purchase a new digitiser for about £4.95 off ebay, rather than fork out around 30-40 for a new screen.
TOols you'll need are small screwdrivers and a small set of torx screwdrivers.. again a search will tell you what size (I have a pack of t5 6 and 7 and cant remember which it is - it's the same pack you buy for disassembling mobiles)

Hi, i'v got a problem. I tried change my digitizer and, when im done, now lcd doesn't work, because it is still white...:/ What can i do now? any solutions?
Thanks a lot
Check your connections. Pull apart and re-seat everything to ensure everything is hooked up good.
everything is fine :/ still white screen
Perhaps you zapped or damaged the LCD when you were working on it...
You could try replacing the LCD too -- but at this point I think I would send it to the professionals
HTC repair or someone like PPCTechs
Don't know if the screen set up is still the same. But when I replaced the screen on my Universal the wiring for the touchscreen was stuck down onto the lcd wiring, as they both shared common earths. Maybe worth a check before spending more cash?
i have the same problem, the screen was working fine before i replaced the new digitilizer and now its just white but i can hear the tablet playing so it must be the screen.i checked all the wiring 4 times now! any idear???
:crying:
Slide the phone open and apply some pressure near where the angle of the opening is (back of the LCD below the SIM, where there is a bar). I had the same issue and this fixed it.
Hello, I am a true noob so please forgive me if I sound dumb.
I had a broken screen so I bought a new one on Ebay. I changed it perfectly, it looks good but now when I touch the screen it acts like I touched the top left corner (in portrait)no matter where on the screen I touch (so it opens up the "Start" menu). In landscape it acts like I touched the top right so it opens up the drop down menu with all the running programs.
I would really appreciate some help. I try re-aligning the touch screen but it does not recognize any touches at all. I have to soft reset the phone to get out of the re-align program.
I don't want to hard reset because I have read many cases where the phone gets stuck in align program as it is trying to setup and they have to install remote access or something to get around it.
I would like advise on whether it is the new screen or the phone. Is there something I can check for inside or should I send the screen back for a replacement.
Thank you for your help.
Having replaced the touch screen in a Palm with success, I would say that...
You either have a problem with the connector for the screen, recheck the connection
Someone sold you a bad screen.
Something else is wrong with the device.
At this point I don't know that in your position I wouldn't do a hard reset. What is the worst thing that can happen? The device is already broken in it's current state.
Good luck.
Thank you
Thank you very much for your help. I will try the connector. if it does not look damaged then I will return the screen.
Did you replace just the screen itself, or the screen and the digitizer? More than likely your digitizer is broken aswell. If you replaced them as a set, request a new one from wherever you got it, and if you just replaced the LCD, then you need to buy a digitizer aswell.

Well, I only received the screen. I cant figure out where the digitizer is on the tilt so I don't know if I changed it or not. Does any body have any picture??
I think I read somewhere that it all comes as one piece(the screen and digitizer), but I can't confirm it.
Indeed they most of the time do come as one peice, so if your connection is good on the mobo, then I would say that the digitizer you recieved is bad. The digitzier is the super thin peice of glass that covers the LCD screen.
hi,
my touch diamond 2's touch screen stop working randomly ( i think that i applied too much pressure on 1 spot for too long). I can see the touch screen dots on the area. I am just wondering if I were to repair this, would i be replacing the DIGITIZER or the TOUCH SCREEN.
Thank you soo much
warranty might cover that. It might not be your fault
I have decided to fix the part myself since I do not wish to ship the part to their location in the US. Any idea if its the digitizer or the LCD screen that i should be replacing?

Search the Wiki, there are dismantle instructions.
I had the same on my display, and was able to move the dark spot to the edges where it disappeared.
I moved it with scratching it with my nail very gently applying some pressure.
In Europe HTC offers a pickup and return warranty, is that different in the US? If it is the same I would send it in to HTC for replacement, since it might happen again pretty soon....
I already have 3 screens replaced :-(
jason, did u manage to fix this? i have the exact same problem and pushing the "bubbles" towards the edge of the screen didn't help. my screen is still unresponsive..

Try applying duct tape to it repeatedly until you get it back.
Yes, both
I recently replaced the Touch Screen on my Diamond 2. Same problem; spots that "stick" in the middle. I used to solve this by running both my thumbs down the sides of the screen to "puff up" the low areas in the middle.
The part you want is actually called a "Digitizer Touch Screen" on eBay, cheap too. Prepare to spend about 2 hours fiddling with very tiny screws, connections and glue to tackle the job.
The hardest part for me was actually getting the Touch Screen to work; it seemed to be calibrated in mirror-image AND turned 90 degrees sideways, which made getting to the calibration functionality an extremely frustrating experience. I spend another 3 hours on that, but now I've got a perfect phone again, since I ordered a new case as well. No use taking the entire phone apart and then rebuilding with a molested outer shell...
maybe you should reset it
Working Solution Till Now
Hello Friends,
I have TD2 mobile and today I had same issue. I was thinking it was because of the weather or some.
I remember it did happend several time before, but when I restart the device several time it does work. So I was ignoring.... But today it did not work.. looks like going toward end... So I did soft and hard reset without and that did not helped me.
So I switched off the mobile, "heated" the touch screen gently with my hand for 1 min and started the mobile again and it worked for me .
Not sure if this is a solution, but will work.
May be I will contact Service Center here in Hyderbad and see what is wrong here?
Hope this will help you all...
Thanks.
Solution
Okay, I've just had this problem with an HTC Touch, and I think this works with any HTC that has a "digitizer" rather than an all-in-one touchscreen (I think newer phones have digitisers).
I'm not sure if this will always work, but I've just done it - sometimes the inactive touch screen is "broken" because the layers are stuck together (so the phone can't tell where the touch is, hence unresponsive). With mine, I looked at the screen side on and could see a kind of "oily" patch in the light.
The solution is to get masking/gaffa tape - the very sticky brown one. Stick it down on the screen/digitizer and then keep pulling it off - this pulls the layers from each other. I kept repeating this lots before it worked - and in the end I pulled the top layer completely off (I think you should pull from the top of the phone, as the layers need to be attached at the bottom of the screen/digitizer). Once it pulled away, I gently lay it back down (after panicking!!) and hey presto it started working again.
Good luck!
Digitizer replaced but still not working
The touch screen on my Touch Diamond2 stopped responding to my touch (or the stylus) and I tried everything including removing and replacing the digitizer bus just in case the connection was the issue. But all to no avail. Finally I decided to replace the digitizer (touch screen)
The problem for me is that it made no difference. The new digitizer doesn't respond to my touch either. The problem is apparently somewhere else.
If anyone has encountered this problem and has a solution I would be grateful to know what it is.
Thanks in advance
Replace the Touch Diamond2 Digitizer touch screen.
I recently replaced the digitizer (touch screen) on my HTC Touch Diamond2. Since I found on the net, no instructions for replacing the actual digitizer, I thought I might include some here.
It was relatively easy to fit. The only difficulty I encountered was a lack of information about how to actually remove the old one. The various instruction sets found on the web all stop once the screen is removed. But the digitizer is not covered by these instructions. The digitizer is bonded to a thin glass immediately under your screen protector (if you have one fitted) and after the screen is removed following instructions you will find on the net, the digitizer and the thin glass sheet that it is bonded to must be prized off from the front of the housing. The digitizer separates from the glass easily, but the glass is securely bonded to the housing with a silicon glue. It must be prized off by gently lifting a corner and applying a little upward pressure allowing the glue to slowly and gently let go. Don't be surprised if the glass breaks during the process. Once off it is a simple matter to press the new one in place. Just remember to start by slipping the connector bus (cable) through the narrow slot between the metal outer housing and the inner components. I used a set of tweezers to poke it through. DO IT FIRST before pressing the digitizer into place.
Okay, as I said the process was easy and took about 15 minutes all up.

Thanks for the heads up on the glass part mate. Just replaced my TD2 digitizer too. Kinda freaked out at first when the glass split.. haha
Anyway, just wanna 1 more info. When removing the old digitizer, it'll be easier if the front housing was heated first (with a hairdryer on full or a heatgun) to soften the glue. It'll be easier to remove afterwards.
Word of warning though. Only head the housing when REMOVING the old digitizer, DO NOT use this method when applying the new one. The digitizer dies because of heat. Heat is what causes the newton rings issue.

I have the same problema with my Diamond2. I have also changed the digitalizer with no success It is still not responding to any kind of touch.
Shoofty, did you manage to fix yours?
Thanks in advance,

Fixing TD2 touch screen
TD2 touch screen is a common problem I guess.
Symptoms are :
1- Touch screen does not respond sometimes
2- You can see a grease like layer under the touch screen
3- Sometimes if you look closer to the screen at some part you can see a a liquidized small area.
Solutions:
1- If you see the liquidized dot on the screen turn off the display and try to rub it with your finger until it disappears. turn it on again and try if it works. I guess heating with the finger as other peeople here suggest does the same thing. However this is a temporary solution. Your touchscreen will die at some date. I used my TD2 for 8-9 months using this method. But at the end touchscreen died.
2- Replace the digitzer or complete frontcover. Actually this might be easier than you think. I replaced mine in half an hour. I bought a front cover which includes the digitzer (http://www.ebay.de/itm/Original-HTC...zer_Ersatzteile_Werkzeuge&hash=item4cfe6f78dc) and openning tools from ebay. Dimanıond 2 disassemble and assemble videos on youtube were very helpful. I strongly suggest to buy the complete frontcover (inc digitzer). It makes replace process much easier and gives the device a brand new look. My old front cover was worn from the corners (which is also very commpn problem of TD2). Now it looks brand new. No strach on the display and body.
Thnks Ozkarah.
I happened to realize that, surprisingly, the touch screen of my HD2 started working if I heated it up with a hairdryer. So, I think something else is wrong beyond the touch screen, probably the connector to the main board of the mobile. It might expand once it is hot and that is why it starts working. In any case, I think that is beyond repair

Hi,
I have same problem when I changed new screen (screen is calibrated in mirror-image AND turned 90 degrees sideways).
Could tell step by step how you get your screen calibrated?
Thanks
Well, I fixed my old broken G1 with new screen, touchscreen panel, case and keyboard.
Now I have 2 issue:
1) Sometimes my touchscreen goes grazy!! If I use the touch test application I see that sometimes when I touch the screen in an area there is another virtual touch in another zone of the screen. I read that it can depend from the current source when I charge the phone.. but I'm going crazy!! I opened my phone 10 times (I thought there was a problem in the cable that link TouchPanel to LCDPanel, because when I lock the cable with the clip it tends anyway to go out from the connector, now I put some scotch tape to fix but the problem is here.. so I think is another problem).
2) My volume rocker doesn't work!!
I bought 2 new keyboard to fix this problem, but no one of that fixed the problem. I thought the first new keyboard had volume keys broken, so I bought another one, but the problem persists!!
Now the Touch problem rarely happens, but the volume rocker is completely unusable..
Someone have experience about G1 assembling/repairing ?
Thanks and sorry for bad english
if you have put in multiple keypads have the same issue i would assume that it is the connection going to the motherboard. just a guess there but its either that or you have had a bunch of faulty keyboards.
only other thing would be a software problem
does the keypad work in recovery (let you go up down throughout the list) ?
as for the touch screen, probably need a new digitizer or flex cable, both are cheap and it sounds like you have the knowhow to replace them.
Ok, but digitizer is new!! screen also is new, and I have bought a total of 4 flex cable because I see that they are fragile (I broke the first I bought).
I tried to change flex cable but the problem remain the same.
The only thing that can be damaged is the LCD cable that links to the flex cable: it has a small cut where the cable have a curve, but the cut don't reaches the contacts (the cable is transparent). I also use some glue and scotch tape to mantein lock the cable.
The digitizer cable is connected to the LCD cable, and then they go to the flex cable that connect them to the motherboard.
The strange thing is that seems a software issue, because if I turn off and than turn on the screen, the problem is fixed for some seconds, minutes and sometimes hours...
Another strange thing is the possibility to control the screen with some metal objects from the moment that the virtual touch problem appear (I can control the screen also without touch it, with hand and piece of metal)
video:
have you tried a factory reset if you think it may be a software issue? if that dosent work you can try install a whole new rom.
really it sounds like it isnt the hardware since you appear to know what youre doing. i have a had a few phones that had screen (digitizer) issues and a new rom flashed cured it just fine
since you dont mind putting a few dollars into it, and your familiar with the inside, you can always try to pick up a cheap motherboard or spare phone from ebay or what have you, then swap the motherboard and you could then hopefully find out if it is the hardware or software

Huh sounds like you got a cheap digitizer than. Most good digitizers use heat to touch. If it's literally touch, then sounds like its a fake/meh digitizer. i hate the digitizers that aren't heat, but press. I see them all the time in those first samsuck touchscreen phones. And they usually die in a bit. I had a Samsung behold with a screwed up digitizer

Yes I flashed 3 or 4 roms after a wipe (I tried also super-wipe.zip), but the problem is here..
The digitizer works well some times, but sometimes get crazy (you can see in the video).
I don't that my new digitizer is fake, but I really don't know!
BTW I'm trying to repair my phone for fun (now I have desire z) and because I am fascinated by my old G1.
PS:
I see another strange issue--
If I touch the screen when the phone is on a table the screen digitizer is not very sensitive and can't take input from fingertips.
If I touch the screen when the phone is in my other hand, the screen digitizer is a lot more sensitive and it take input from fingertips.
My impression is that there is an electric field or something similar that disturbs the digitizer, and when I take the phone in my hand I discharge that field to ground. Also when I turn off the screen, seems that the electric field discharge so when I turn on the screen is ok, but after some seconds the field returns to disturbs the screen.
I really don't know, but is the impression that I have.. something that is not shielded.
Now I'll try to use my phone in airplain mode.
Thanks guys, I'm happy to see that this forum is still very active
