Xiaomi's strategy to kick away modders! - Off-topic

Everyone is aware of bootloader locked phones, but what makes xiaomi stand out? yes! the strange strategies and principles, worlds most mysterious procedure of unlocking a bootloader in xiaomi phones.
They have made an issue intentionally to make users puzzled.
proof:-
1.After successful approval for unlock from xiaomi's official website, the user needs to unlock their bootloader using mi flash unlock tool, but the unlock tool gets stuck at 50% or 99% if you try to unlock on the same day, both of the errors have no solution officially.
2.when you reach xiaomi forums for help, the moderators will suggest you to wait for 8-10 days and then try, they said it purely depends on luck,if it doesn't work after 8 days, you need to wait again for 8-10 days.so now this is the only solution they have and that too depends on luck! great!
3.unlock tool keeps on displaying the same error instead of displaying any message to wait, this blocks the user to unlock bootloader further by displaying unlock limit reached message! wow! well played!
4.Now the thing comes that left me shocked:-
http://en.miui.com/thread-673415-1-1.html
have a look at this very interesting conversation.
you will be surprised by the reaction of a xiaomi moderator to the very popular bootloader unlock issue,he talks very rudely and tells to leave Xiaomi instead of helping and explaining the issue. he said-"if you are a modder then you are at wrong place".
Results:-
1.many users lost their hopes and sold their devices.
2.some of them continued without unlocking.
3.some users waited for days, weeks and even months.
so they got what they needed!
you get what you paid for!
so i shared my terrible experience with Xiaomi and analysed it,if you guys have any thoughts and analysis about their strategy then please share below in comments!
thanks for reading!
sorry for my English.

Xiaomi Unlock our Bootloader!

Hello everyone.
As you may know, Xiaomi decided to lock their devices bootloader in the latest updates.
I, as a Redmi Note 3 owner, had the bad luck of already having the bootloader locked ever since i powered up the phone.
As a result of this (silly) Xiaomi's strategy, many users are turned away from Xiaomi.
The bootloader unlocking proccess has many frustrated and some even infuriated. (I'm both!)
So... I made a poll, to request Xiaomi to unlock our bootloader.
Please take a minute or two, to vote in Miui's forum poll and to write a comment, if you feel the need.
Thank you.

They said billions times that they won't do it. So billions and first time it's begging. Read carefully their topics on main forum..

Good. Maybe my English is not perfect, but at least i understood what they said...:angel:
I don't think it will do any harm to let Xiaomi know customers are unhappy; I wouldn't have bought the phone if I had known the bootloader would be locked. There was no indication of this in reviews when the phone was released.
I suggest you to make a petition to change the global members making it easy to share with the people in the world imo
It's only a question of time until somone will leak the unlocking code Or crack the locking mechanism.
It is just a challenge for our developers...
Bad news; the project on MIUI forum for developing Cyanogenmod 12.1 for the Redmi Note 3 has been abandoned.
I just get one RN3
Frustrated....................................they Lock the bootloader
I wont bought one IF I knew

Are you willing to pay for OEM unlock option to be available? I am

Hello,
I have paid nearly a thousand dollars for the note 8. I have also bought 4 cases with two screen protectors. The total reaches up to 1100$. Despite paying all this money for a phone, I cant do whatever I want to with it because I don’t have the OEM unlock option. I have nearly read all of the 225 page about OEM unlock for Exynos through this month. I have already signed with google, Samsung. I already waited more than 9 days with no boots but with no luck.
My suggestion to solve the OEM unlock option :
Donating money for any developer who is willing to try solving this mystery. I already paid about 1100$ for this phone and I am willing to pay a little extra to root it and to install custom roms whenever I want.
I am starting with myself. I am donating a 25$ as a start for anyone who is willing to take the challenge. What do you guys think? Are you willing to donate for anyone who are willing to try to solve the issue?
To keep things clear, I suggest that a moderator to open a thread for this subject where anyone willing to donate sees his name and the amount of his donation, so that we can know the approximate amount of donation money or a moderator can do whatever he wants as long as everything clear to us.
This thread is intended to check if people may want to donate money for anyone who may want to solve the issue of OEM, so If you got lucky with the OEM unlock option, please do NOT post your experience here, post it in this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/help/info-note-8-exynos-n950f-fd-oem-unlock-t3673140
Thanks
This is a good idea, i'm willing to donate 30 EURO.
I don't know what to say. I paid just as much for this phone knowing full well that root or an unlocked bootloader might not ever happen. I made that choice knowing that there are or would be phones nearly as capable as the Note 8 that would have root or an unlocked bootloader.

Thanks for the reply. To be honest, I don't know how the developers will do that. As long as they can do it whether with your way or their way, that would be great.
I am ready to pay.
I am willing to pay up to $50 or even more if that would solve our issue
solve what issue?
OEM unlock wont give you root or anything else..
Can you complete it? Is it Exynos or Snapdragon? Imo all Exynos chips have OEM unlock but we have the " 7 days " jail time. And we also have those impatient fooks who keeps on flashing sht on their phones then complain " Its been 500 years, I still dont the have OEM toggle "
I myself waited for 7 full days. 1st flash of TWRP was unsuccessful because of the " only official binaries are allowed " thing. So I went back to sleep and updated my phone ( samsung released a security update ). Woke up and decided to try it again ( The FRP and OEM were off even tho the OEM toggle in dev option is gone ) then BOOM!! I didnt expect it to succeed, my phone restarted and Odin indicated that the flash was successful so I immediately pressed buttons for TWRP and everything went good after that. Now I have TWRP+Renovate Ice+Magisk+Xposed.
I think the update from sasmung fixed the " Official binaries " thing

Solve the issue of it not appearing (or dissappearing). It's needed to install a rom, etc. (At least on Exynos...Snapdragon has that locked bootloader of course)

I am talking about Exynos. Members have different experiences here. No one have the absolute answer for this mystery, otherwise ; that topic won't reach 230 pages if replies, and I wouldn't open this thread.
This is just me but if my OEM unlock was refusing to show up after one week I would get a thread going and compare notes with affected devices alone There are one or more things you are all doing, software you are running, somthing, which is affecting your ability to get OEM unlock. Figure that out and you're home free.

Imho it got to 230 pages because most people complain first before they read and or have flashed something before even waiting for 7 full days. And mostly of the first pages is the discovery of the 7 days jail time. It would have been lesser that 230 if they have read first and have been patient
Have you fully updated your phone btw?
Use only 1 sim?
Got the phone from another country?
Never flashed anything on it?
Im currently using SM-N950F/DS btw

- The phone was fully updated.
- I used two sims the first 10 days, then when OEM didn't appear, I removed one.
- I got it from the same country.
- During the first 10 days, I did nothing except for showing developers option. I waited 10 days but OEM didn't appear. After this, I flashed different stock rom, and now I am waiting. My up time is 66 hours now and I am using one sim. If no solution was descoverd, I can report at 168 hours (7 days).
By the way, I nearly read all the 235 pages. I have a friend who has his OEM appeared out of the box, he bought his phone from another country.

it seems that people don't want to spend money for it. we have 15 voters : 8 with paying money, and 7 with not paying money. if there are more people, we can try to nudge him to take a look.
I´ll pay US$50, for an OEM unlock option to be avaiable upon flashing any ROM so that we don´t have to wait for the 7 day period to everytime we want to root or wipe or flash CSC.

Yes US $50 is about right to avoid this oem switch. The fact that we our boot loader is not completely locked..
i am willing to add $50 to get out this NO-OEM jail on N950FD.... i can't believe i got tricked into this samcircus .... i am debating myself if i have to sell this device & get s8 duos instead..
I made an account just now for the sole purpose of replying to this thread;
I will donate money towards this, probably the same as others ($50) I didn't buy my Note 8 to be restricted

Unlock, Rebrand, Unbrick, Update - FunkyHuawei Support Thread for Mate 20 Pro

This is the official FunkyHuawei support thread for the Mate 20 Pro.
The below applies to both the Mate 20 and the Mate 20 Pro.
Install:
Currently FunkyHuawei has a new install method for EMUI 9 devices which is not public as of yet.
Unbrick:
Unbricking will be possible with the new HiSuite 9 method, but it is not public as of yet.
Rebrand:
Rebranding is not currently planned to be offered. Neither is single sim to dual sim conversion. This may change in the future.
Unlock:
Unlock codes are available via the unlock code order form, or by purchasing an unlimited pass. See the site for details.
If you have a global variant, make sure that you can choose Enable OEM Unlock in developer options. So far we have seen the option grayed out on all devices. If you can't enable this, even with the code, you can't unlock the bootloader.
It has been confirmed that bootloader unlocking on the Chinese variant is possible. On the global variant we can give you the code, but you'll need to be able to choose Enable OEM Unlock as specified above.
Root:
The methods which are not public are available to those who want to test them, by contacting FunkyHuawei support by email.
We will update this thread with any changes.
so I have to purchase for unlocking my device?
what the ..
I would prefer bootloader unlock with paid service rather than having Mate 20 Pro with access limitation. Since you as the owner, you should've the right to use your phone the way you want it. Since the official unlock method was suspended months ago, what else option do we have?

Sure, but these people are putting work in to it and want to be paid -- I don't believe they're affiliated with Huawei. If it was Huawei doing this, I'd understand your sentiment.
Keeping tabs here. I'm hoping to pre order the UK emerald green variant before the timeframe ends for the free gifts.
Not sure of the purpose of this thread. It offers nothing. So will it? Can the phone be unlocked? Is a purchase required?
We already know Huaweu have publicly stated all phones after an earlier date in 2018 won't be boot-unlockable. So curious...how will FunkyHuaweu help me?

Think we've gotta wait for Friday onwards, as seemingly people with devices now (presumably different software wise?) have the OEM unlock option greyed out in developer options.
As far as my understanding goes, if we can check that option, we can't unlock the bootloader..... Sad times if so.
I'll be hopefully getting my device on Friday and I'll be sure to see if that option is an option for me...
So is there any way to unlock bootloader other than OEM unlock?

As far as I know that setting needs to be checked, we need to be able to select Allow. Without it I don't think the bootloader can be unlocked, but I'd be gladly proved wrong!
Does rebrand from L09 to L29 work or is it in the works?
Edit.. Meant without root, not bothered about that.. Or are we saying we need unlocked BL nowadays to rebrand to doff model?

May change in the future, but right now, any kind of rebranding is looking very unlikely.
The same software updates can be offered for all brandings, which is a plus, so there shouldn't be such a need to rebrand, even if you have an obscure branding.
But enabling dual sim on single-sim, is looking very unlikely with the current state of things. We are looking into it, though.
Thanks for the reply. I need global, not Chinese with root... this is a Dev community - so I don't support anyone holding the root process for global ROM as a ransom. Happy to pay a contribution but it's meant to be shared..
Unless your version is a 1 click solution like chain fire and has no phone side effects, then I don't see the value on demanding a ransom

Demanding a ransom? LOL.
They're a business providing a service.
If others want to do it for free, there's nothing stopping them from doing so. The problem is, I doubt there will be enough people interested in doing that ... the Huawei / Honor development community has already been shattered.

I mentioned before, I need the device in hand to do it. No way currently exists that I could offer people to do at home. That might change in the future, but that is the current situation.
With the Chinese version, you can likely simply unlock the bootloader and root like any other phone.
With the global version, you could theoretically do the same if Enable OEM Unlock is available. But if it isn't available, the only alternative I can offer, is one that requires the device in-hand. It's nothing to do with ransom. I'd much prefer there were easier rooting methods available. My full-time job is reverse-engineering and exploiting Huawei devices, so it would make my job much easier.

Many moons ago, "JTAG'ing" a Microsoft Xbox 360 console required a but of heavy lifting...and by that, I mean a lot of specialized effort and knowledge to carry about a successful JTAG, see what I mean:
https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-JTAG-your-Xbox-360-and-run-homebrew/
So - with that in mind - are you literally pulling the Mate 20 Pro phone apart with special tools and connecting wires to it running specialized patent-pending software/s? I obviously need to ask as you have failed several times to mention WHY you need the "phone in hand" to root?!
Otherwise, if you're insinuating that it takes a lot of manual rebooting, flashing and lots of complicated software steps - well, that's why there's things called instruction guides....and people like me around offering to put one together so I/we can SHARE and help others in my position (who would want a rooted global version of this). So I will once again state, unless you can elaborate otherwise, it is in fact a ransom...imagine how much Chainfire, all those years ago, could've charged Samsung users for his (albeit, simpler) root method across the range and years of phone and tab models?

Just to add to this I'm willing, within reason, to help out in any way possible to achieve Magisk root for the global version. There is currently a pledged amount of around £170 and hell, even if some of those didn;t pay out I'd be willing to put more in....
If we can assist in anyway let us know....

If it was something like this, I would be offering it as a do-at-yourself service, with a tool. I can't offer it like that, I need the phone in-hand to do it, as I said.
I guess one could then ask the question: What if someone in relation to Huawei pays you for a phone (global) pre-rooted. Then, they investigate how or where the exploit was made - and eventually patch it anyway? It may take longer, but we'd end up in the same position as before if Huawei wanted to control root on their global models...and, given your work/livelihood, you would know better than most: If Huawei did NOT want this to happen, they certainly wouldn't make the CN version as simple and easy to root as you claim in this thread...and they'd have something in the pipeline, if not available now ready to patch the exploit...
I still do not see how the CN and Global versions can be so completely and insanely different.

Honor Play Support on OpenKirin

Hey guys, good news. I visited the OpenKirin.net site and i discovered that they now have support for our device. My question is, has anyone flashed the rom yet? I would love to try but i still have to unlock my bootloader.
Please please if anyone knows how to do it properly make a complete tutorial here on XDA.
I dont wanna lose this glimmer of hope. I was dead set on buying a new phone (non Huawei as expected cuz ****ty customer support) but now if I can flash this OpenKirin i might have to hold on to this phone for a few years more.
No bootloader unlock code, no software support any longer, that's a shame! Frankly that was the worst customer support I've ever experienced. We didn't even get 2nd Android update after buying. If I had wanted a closed bootloader and getting stuck on stock rom I would've bought an iPhone. Thanks goodness they're running them down.

MI 9T PRO : THIS DEVICE IS LOCKED, FIND DEVICE ON, BOOTLOADER LOCKED, DONT HAVE MI ACCOUNT USERNAME, PASSWORD AND MOBILE NUMBER. I NEED HELP AND GUIDE

Guys hope all of you doing good.. Be careful and check before buying used mobiles.
My wife she bought MI 9T PRO through facebook marketplace which they sold very low price. She used that mobile for few days then the device went into bootloop. Then i did factory reset which went into locked screen and ask for unlock code. Only im able to connect with Wifi which is no use. The seller didn't provide any MI Acccount details or any mobile number which associated with MI Account. We asked his help but he told that last year he bought from some other person who's unreachable as of now.
Note: Its not stolen or lost mobile. We paid for that thats why struggling to fix it. Its our mistake that we are careless when buying used mobile. Lesson learned
I did my best to fix it by myself. Here is Error list and its going to be big challenge for me to bring back the device to life.

Guys help me and guide me. Im struggling almost one week to fix this issue. Now covid19 pandemic so i cannot bring it to the service centers which may be expensive.
Sorry for my grammar mistakes, typo errors. I hope you guys understand the issues. Hoping for the best.
you need to email Xiaomi global, if they don't accept, email them again until they do, most likely your seller sold you a stolen device, btw don't waste your time trying to fix it yourself, I highly doubt it will work.
and also accept the fact that your 9t pro may never be functional again...
here is an example of what you could email them

Hello brother. Thank you for your reply. I thought nobody will respond my thread because long time i didnt get any reply. As you said i sent email before one week but service.global refused to unlock my mobile. They told me to submit application at i.mi.com which i tried before 15 days. I didnt get response from i.mi.com.
Yesterday i contact them again. They told me to contact any service centers with purchase receipt. Also they gave another email ID which is xiaomi service in my county. I dont know that they want to help or not. Im confused and xiaomi customer service not good enough to give appropriate solution. I dont know whats next
You need an authorised account to flash in EDL mode. The average Joe cannot use Qualcomm tools on this phone. There are people who will remotely connect to your PC and perform the MIUI flash for you, using their own authorised account. They will charge around USD $20, but sometimes as high as $40.
@Robbo.5000 . Thank you for your information brother. It has active find device status thats why i cannot flash with an authorized account. I believe it will relock again and our 40$ which we spend will be useless. Please let me know if its not true. Please Share with me if you know any solution for lost mode xiaomi device.

Find cops if you are saying you got scammed.
Even if you are the victim, Xiaomi has no responsibility to help for illegal acts. You need legal force to make Xiaomi unlock it for you.
Xiaomi will help if you have purchase receipt.

Yes, i complain already local police station. but the seller already deleted his fb account. They said he used fake credentials and nowadays more scam online. They told me to send mail to xiaomi and inform this issue so they will contact the owner and come back to you. But the reality nothing happened. Xiaomi said they cannot help regarding this issue. Seller sent the item through cash on delivery motorcycle rider delivery service. The rider service just pickup the item at any location and deliver to the destination. The seller was wearing a face mask so the rider couldn't be able to look at his face. I followup and go through the formalities and i spend my time and effort on that. Finally everybody advise me and they told me to be careful next time. Thats why im here to ask for help. If i cant fix it then i leave the device on my shelf until i find solution. I spent money on that so im hoping for the best to happen. Its ok if the owner contact me ill return the device if its really lost.
Wow, let me tell you.
Blackhawk isnt trying to disrespect you or anything, yes he is a long time member of XDA so what.
He is rightfully able to be suspicious as people do it a lot here.
XDA cannot instruct you to unlock a locked phone if it is done by illegal means.
You can just take it to the centre and get it unlocked by xiaomi by providing proof of ownership
If you have the original box or you should just take it to xiaomi repair centre and explain to them.
Blackhawk is a pretty nice xda member and pretty much my only friend on here lmao.
He is giving you more respect then you deserve right now for outlashing at him because he is rightfully suspicious.
Your circumstances are very suspicious.
We have every right not to help you or to help you. He came here on his own to try help you and you are acting like this?
Hmm?

Pls read my post and know first that i have box or ownership. I told clearly in my post that we bought used mobile online and we received like this. When i open the parcel i dont get charger or any other box along with the item. Everybody bringing the free advice and im thankful for that. I defend with the previous comment because he try to accuse me that my firsr thread is all about stolen mobile. He also mentioned that return it to the owner it seems all of u trying to accuse me. Thats why i request all of u that if u have solution just post in my thread so i will go through that. Don't put me down or make me feel guilty for what happened to us. I understand what you coming to say and thank you for that.
Also I favout Xiaomi MIUI account protection as that only initaties if factory reset was done by going to the recovery menu and resetting.
It would not ask if it was reset normally.
So it means that someone had reset the phone without unlocking it normally and going to settings, I doubt the person who sold the phone even knew who had it. It is stolen definitely, if that seller bought it the person who sold it to them would have done the reset the right way.
This post is just all wrong and you won't be able to fix it.
Don't post threads on here asking people for help in potentially illegal and implicating others in your problem there.
I cannot even express how bad it would be if you got caught and they found that someone helped you unlock a stolen phone?
Don't you know when you were trying to unlock it the original owner could track the IMEI with the police?
The IMEI cannot be changed on your phone since the bootloader is locked.
If you are legitimately saying the truth then you don't need to worry, but if you have stolen it then it is only a matter of time before the police knock on your door.
AND FINALLY
XDA Developers forums do not endorse any type of potentially illegal activity and will take strict actions against people who are part of it.
XDA Rule No.1

Okay fine, but all that's is to inform the police to track if it is stolen.
Maybe you'll get your money when they find the culprit who scammed you.
We cannot help you unlock a phone that is protected by factory data protection, it is there for a reason and we cannot violate the rule that it was placed there for.
And the fact that it could implicate us in legal stuff is something we don't need during these times

Please read his first comment. He said return it to the owner so it will work. I know It happened in our life that we were scammed by seller. Its our fault that we didnt meet the person and we didnt check the item before make payment. For that no need to put me down for asking help. Its ok if there is no solution. We accept that is loss and we learnt to be careful from that.

just talk to the cyberpolice?
They'll even find and return your money.
Unless you cant.
The local police wont do anything, i advise you to call the cyberpolice.
They can find him even if he deletes his ‘credentials’
